Well actually I was also a little shocked when she asked me straight out. I mean, I know what you mean, because I sort of felt like that too and like I had to sort of defend my husband. But when I thought about it I guessed it was a good thing to ask. But anyway yeah I totally understand your point of view too!

Hi gals, hope you don't mind me joining this thread at this point - you look pretty well established. Just registered with mumsnet but I'll be 10 weeks pregnant on Thursday with my first and I think I'm due on Dec 1st (oddly though when I went for the booking appointment they gave me the date of 30th November).

Now desperately waiting for 12 weeks so I can start telling people - getting really excited about having the first scan in a few weeks time, I feel as though I'm starting to show although I'm sure it's just bloating, not that it stops me from patting my belly and 'talking' to baby in my head - am I really sad?

Not too bad with side effects other than sore boobs and tiredness but I have got a huge appetite which if not immediately satiated soon turns to nausea. Can't believe I've needed a bigger bra already and I may even need another in a few weeks!

rattyratbag · 03/05/2011 23:00

Hi all

JMoodles - Welcome

Figgygal - I too have been having the discussion about hubbie going to the booking appointment - he wants to come and be as involved as possible. I wasn't sure whether it was usual or not, although when reading through the paperwork from the GP they say they take family medical history, discuss screening tests - which I reckon is as relevant for both of us...

Talking about booking appointments I am 8 weeks + 5 and still have not heard from midwife. GP said they would call me but I have heard nothing. If I don't hear by Thursday will chase them. Has anyone else with similar dates to me not heard anything?

To all you girls with symptoms and nausea - Until Monday I had only had a bit of constibation and funny feeling week 6 had not had any nausea. This has now changed and have felt sick and been sick. Both lots of sickness have been when I have allowed myself to get hungry. Today I made sure I ate sensibly and kept the sickness at bay for the day - lets see how I go tomorrow!

rattyratbag · 03/05/2011 23:14

Welcome Bexworth. Don't worry about joining now - I only joined last week, everyone has been really welcoming.

I know what you mean about waiting for the 12 week scan - I think my due date is 8th December and cannot wait for th scan. I keep getting tempted by paying for an early scan but am going to hold on until the 12 week scan!

Bexworth28 · 03/05/2011 23:53

Thanks Ratty, just been trawling through all the old posts - makes me wish I'd found this site weeks ago - so many niggly pains I've been worrying about that this thread would have put my mind at ease over!

My DH came with me to the booking appointment and it was really handy as my mw asked about his family history a lot of which I wouldn't have been able to answer. Plus I hate needles (gonna have to get over that one I guess!) so it was lovely to have someone to drive me back afterwards when I was feeling a bit faint.

It took 2 mws to get blood from me - they couldn't find a vein apparently for such a "skinny minny" it shouldn't have been a problem, they finally got it in luckily otherwise it'd be the back of the hand! Didn't help that there was another girl in at the same time that had no problems and she was done and dusted while they were still slapping at my elbows - ouch!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 04/05/2011 08:33

Welcome Newbies

I'm so sick this morning :( really struggling to keep things down.

Hope everyone has a better day

rattyratbag · 04/05/2011 08:53

Poor Darciemum. I feel nauseous today too. Yesterday was ok but I had toast as soon as I woke, today I didn't. The book I'm reading says it can be linked to low blood sugar & says eating little & often might help. Probably won't work but I am going to give it a try!

Hope you feel better. I got to get dressed and go to a meeting I just hope I don't vomit!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 04/05/2011 09:50

Mopsy Glad your MW appointment went alright. Never heard about the DV thing tho, wasn't asked that last time! Maybe its a new thing, has been 7yrs since I last did this lol.

ratty Thanks, I hope you don't vomit in your meeting.

Just been to asda to get some crackers to try and stop the nausea and vomiting :(

BlueCrane · 04/05/2011 09:55

ratty I tried chasing my docs on MW app/booking in app and scan date yesterday and they said to ring the hospital who just said that I should get a letter soon!! I'm 8+5 today so would really like to get things moving...getting a bit frustrated now! DH wants to come to my booking in app so that he can feel a bit more involved as he's struggling a bit at the mo.

Re. the nausea I also need to keep eating little and often and think I'm going to have to get food as soon as I get up this morning as it was what stopped me retching this morning (sorry TMI)

I do feel a bit more myself this week but will be SO glad to get through the first trimester, have my scan and be able to tell people...and hopefully start feeling a bit better and get a proper bump rather than just being bloated/feeling fat!

Bexworth28 · 04/05/2011 13:08

I keep a packet of ginger biscuits by the side of the bed so that if I wake up and feel queasy I can have one or two before I get up and it stops me feeling sick. Gonna end up the size of a house but it seems to do the trick for me.

Bexworth28 · 04/05/2011 13:09

Also, I've taken my first photos of my (probably all bloating) bump today so I can keep a visual record of how big I get. Anyone else or is this just me?

BlueCrane · 04/05/2011 13:41

bex ginger biscuits sounds like a plan!

I may take a photo too but it just feels a bit like bloating at the moment so might wait for my scan date so that I can put an external and internal photo together if that makes sense! Smile

Feeling quite sick at the mo...thought my lunch would help calm the nausea but seems to have made it worse, maybe I ate too much and should've spread it out a bit more?! Not busy at work either so not much to take my mind off it! Been searching for flights for Mum to come over in December - most flippin expensive month of the year though...typical!! It's a long haul flight too so we're talking a lot of money and we've offered to pay for her ticket Sad though I do want her to come so we'll just have to make it work! Just want to get a handle on the costs before we tell her the news as she will be elated and then panic about coming over in the next breath!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 04/05/2011 17:42

Bex think I'll have to invest in ginger biscuits.

I started a picture bump journal yesterday - a friend is a photographer and offered to do some professionally for me right upto birth and then beyond :)

Well DP is home and so happy :) not to happy about what he brought me back tho - I know I'm going to sound ungrateful but he brought me back half a bloody mug! Brought DD lots which is great but all I got was a bloody half a mug :( actually made me cry - blooming hormones.

Hope everyone else is alright?

Xx

mopsytop · 04/05/2011 17:47

What do you mean by half a mug Darcies?? Was it broken? Or is it supposed to be half a mug?! Glad your man is back now though and you are happier!

Bluecrane where's your mum coming from? Mine only has to come from Ireland luckily, close and cheap. Phew!

Girls I have been SO SICK today. Ugh. By far the worst day. I also had an awful headache, not a migraine but really really bad. I woke up feeling like I had the worst hangover ever (after only drinking tea :( ) and was really bad all day until about 5pm. I am feeling slightly better now, better enough to go to yoga anyway which hopefully will help. I dragged myself into work this morning and worked all day (not very productive really, as feeling so terrible) but I am still proud of myself. I keep telling myself I am not ill just pregnant. It doesn't stop me feeling terrible but at least I know why I feel bad I guess.

I have found Carr's water biscuits the only thing I can eat without retching and drinking hot water and lemon. But I was sick this morning and retching most of the day. Very unpleasant. Let's hope it's not a sign of things to come :(

DarciesmumandBump2 · 04/05/2011 17:51

Mopsy sorry to see you've been upchucking most of the day hopefully tomorrow you'll have a better day.

it's meant to be half a mug. I sound really ungrateful but felt quite disappointed. Think I expected to much tbh.

littlestressy · 04/05/2011 18:24

Hello everyone, it's exciting to see so many other first timers on here. I am 7 weeks now and have been having painful cramps since I tested positive, had a scan at early pregnany clinic which was reassuring and another one yesterday at the fertility clinc (IUI conception) and they showed us the heartbeat etc so that was good.
Noone can explain the pains though and at times they have been severe :( so I am mainly lying on the sofa trying to practice breathing exercises!!

zambooloo · 04/05/2011 19:13

Hi everyone, not been on for a while as headteacher suddenly decided she wanted reports done by friday so been in school mode! what fun!
Bluecrane - I'm 8+2 and have heard nothing from the MW re. booking or scan. Was going to chase tomorrow but probably won't be much help! I've been in a proper grump since getting home - felt so hungry I had to eat 2 slices of marmite and cheese on toast, now feel hungry again but sort of sick so I had some asparagus and sweet potato mash (interesting choice, I know)! Very sensitive to smells today, poor sensitve tummies we have. :(
Anyway, sorry for moaning so much - hope you are all feeling a bit better xx

zambooloo · 04/05/2011 19:21

Ooh and did anyone else try the feeling the uterus thing someone mentioned (sorry I forgot who) - it's quite exciting! Apparently might not be able to feel until 11 ish weeks though so no worries if you can't!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 04/05/2011 19:23

Zam explain again what we should be feeling?

zambooloo · 04/05/2011 19:29

If you stand up and feel above the pubic bone there are ridges of muscle which is the uterus - I thought it was exciting anyway Hmm

BlueCrane · 04/05/2011 19:37

mopsy so sorry you've been so sick Sad My Mum has to come all the way from South Africa...ok on time difference (only 2hours) so no jet-lag but 12+ hours flying depending on whether direct or not...and in December it will take a small miracle to find cheap direct flights!! The difficulty is that her parents are very old and she can't leave them for long so all a bit of a pain really. Trying not to stress about it though!

Must try the feeling uterus thing but have only just got myself something like warm - been SO cold all day - anyone else getting the chills? i thought being PG was supposed to make you warmer?!? I've been freezing for last few days!

Bexworth28 · 04/05/2011 20:11

So sorry to hear what a rough time you're having mopsy, I've been reading through the mumsnet book today (it's really good) they suggest sucking on boiled sweets or taking very small bites of food throughout the day (as small as a spoonful of rice every hour) to stop your blood sugar getting low as this contributes to making you sick.

Good news though, I treated myself to some new bras today and Peacocks have some lovely non-underwired ones for less than a tenner! In particular a lovely pink and black lacy nursing bra for £5!

Darcies I know exactly what you mean about the hormones as coming back from town today I kept looking at kids crossing the road or riding their bikes and worrying about how I'm going to keep our child alive and well in the big bad world - it's not even the size of a kiwi yet!!!

rattyratbag · 04/05/2011 20:35

Bex, like the sound of biscuits by the bed!

Darcies mum, I did manage not to vomit but felt v sick. Also been retching this arvo, lively!

So much for me waiting until tomorrow to ring mw! I had a spare moment after a meeting and rang today! She offered me a date for the booking appointment but not for 2 weeks as she is really booked up so my booking app will be at 11 weeks, I got her last appointment and if I had not switched a meeting I would not have been seen until 12 weeks. She did say that she will call me tomorrow to book a date for the scan as if she waits until my booking appointment it will be too late! I so wonder if I had not chased when they would got round to ringing me!

mopsytop · 04/05/2011 22:02

Hi everyone, well yoga really helped and I feel better and could eat dinner, thank goodness as I was starving once the nausea wore off due to only eating a few carrs water biscuits all day! I wonder though if yoga really helped or if the nausea was just wearing off anyway? Hard to tell...

My midwife had told me to tell the yoga instructor I was pregnant as some of the exercises can be bad, but 2 of my friends are in the same class and I don't want to tell anyone until after 12 week scan so I was a bit worried, but I managed to get the yoga teacher on her own before the class and she said it was fine to continue going to her class (and she would know as she also does the pregnancy yoga) but she'd give me a (discreet) nod if anything I shouldn't do, which she did a couple of times. Don't think my friends noticed. So that was good! After 12 weeks I will join the pregnancy yoga class. Anyone else's midwife tell them to join pregnancy yoga?

zambaloo the sensitive to smells thing got really bad for me today, along with all the other symptoms! I nearly vommed at the smell of cleaning product in the corridor at work, and the smell of something burning in the buttery. It is hard to gag discreetly! Butter, cheese etc. also smell so strongly to me now (in a bad way) I can't go near them.

rattyratbag your GPs sound a bit scatty! If the mw doesn't ring you tomorrow I'd defs chase her re: the scan. Just to reassure you wrt the booking app, it's just a bunch of medical details that they take and your blood pressure and a urine sample - the info they give you is all in the 'bounty pack' thing you can get from your GP surgery. At least I got one at mine - I just called in and they handed it over. All the info about what scans to have, what to eat and not to eat, the symptoms we are all experiencing etc. is all there. So apart from being bloody annoying to have to wait so long, I don't think you are missing out on anything important by having the appointment that little bit later. Although you are being very calm I must say, I'd be fuming at the GP surgery's crapness!!

Oh dear, as I type this the nausea and headache are coming back. Oh well, at least I managed to scarf my dinner! Pasta and pesto yumyum

DarciesmumandBump2 · 05/05/2011 07:42

Ratty that's poor communication by your gp's to the MWs. Hopefully she'll call you today.

Mopsy i'd like to do yoga but not sure of the classes yet. Will def do aqua natal again that was brilliant last time.

Was nice having DP home last night. Nice to snuggle.

Hopefully I won't have an upchucking day like yesterday felt like I hugged the loo alot yesterday :(
