I am sure this has been done dozens of times before but still...
what works for you?

So far this time round my nausea is eased most obviously by:

toasted bagels
s&v crisps (of course)
mashed potato, ideally with cheese
macaroni cheese

This is not a long enough list! Please add to it!

After my hyperemesis eased at 18wks I got addicted to cheese ploughmans sandwiches (ie cheddar, pickle, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and mayo!). I ate loads of them. Easy enough to make, thank goodness! I used to sit in meetings with a lock and lock boxful on the table, having explained to everyone at the outset that if I grabbed it and started munching on a sandwich, it was to stop me being sick. Got a few Hmm looks but nobody ever objected!

Junebugjr I wish someone had told me about those things! I was the only hg person in the ward at that time (exactly 4 years ago today I was being told I could go home tomorrow) and I was dubbed the chuck-up lady by one woman! I spent another 4 weeks eating toast and Campbells condensed chicken soup before things started to get better!

Ladies, if anyone reading this has hyperemesis at the moment, please consider taking calcium and vit D tablets on top of any pregnancy vits. DS has hypoplastic teeth (missing enamel) because I didn't eat anything for a crucial month and so his baby teeth didn't form right. I am now fanatical about getting him to eat plenty of dairy so his adult teeth are OK, though thankfully he adores cheese. Grin

Wotsits. All I could eat in the mornings for about a month.

Hi nickel - congratulations! - I dropped off the viroids thread because I stopped really ttc (and rl got v hectic) - and of course, guess what happened...

this thread has been brilliant: I'm now hungry instead of nauseous!

I highly recommend M&S cheese and onion rolls, they sorted me right out yesterday. Am off to buy mango now

White carbs - buttered bread, brioche, crumpets, teacakes, pasta, boiled rice, boiled new potoatoes. THe blander the better.
Boring ham and cheese
crunchy apples
Ginger did it to begin with, not any more
Fizzy water
Cereal with ice cold milk.
Occasionally, thai/curry spiced food. With lots and lots of ultra-plain rice.

And I am MAINLINING mints constantly.

I'm constantly starving - got up this morning and felt so hungry I could barely get to the bathroom! Shock

The only thing that ever worked for me ws sucking on Pear Drops. Something to do with the sucking action plus the fact that they don't smell of anything or taste very strong.

Otherwise I pretty much lived off dry crunchy things - pringles and cheerios mostly ;-) In fact, not much has changed since DS was born....

takethatlady · 15/04/2011 12:47

Apples with peanut butter on them.
Any boiled sweets.
Breadsticks/crackers.
Salt and vinegar Pringles - honestly, I think they kept me alive for the first few months!

Congratulations!

takethatlady · 15/04/2011 12:48

Oooh vj32 I'm with you on the Wotsits, too :)

Deadful morning (ha, ha - morning, noon and night!) sickness with all four dcs.
I lived on haribo sweets and flat lemonade for the first 10 weeks - not a diet recommended in the 'Healthy Prenancy' leaflets. After 10 weeks I introduced boiled potatoes (no salt or butter) and plain rice.

Couldn't open the fridge without gagging, threw up if I walked past a takeaway or restaurant, and couldn't go to the supermarket either (all the food smelt incredibly strong - particularly the cold cabinets and fruit and veg aisles).

And as for people at work who had the temerity to drink tea or, worse, real coffee. Had to sit away from them in meetings. Once threw up just walking past an adjacent office with a gurgling coffee perculator.

Unless you've had severe morning sickness (hyperemisis gravidarum) then you don't understand. Got fed up with ignorant people saying: "Have you tried ginger biscuits?" If it was that simple, don't you think I'd be eating them by the packet? Or: "I never felt sick at all - I think it's mind over matter really" - could have punched them.

Luckily it all stopped at 12 weeks and was then plain sailing (until 25 weeks when I got anaemic and had to fight the urge to eat soil!)

draggom · 15/04/2011 14:19

Wotsits
Bacon fries
The occasional glass of fizzy water with lime.

That's it. In week 10 and cannot really eat anything else. Not a fan of these snacks normally but nothing else stays down! Feeling soooooo sorry for myself....... :-(

hatebeak · 15/04/2011 15:22

Any colour of grapefruit, but especially pink
Patak's Mix Pickle (I used to eat a tablespoon's worth very slowly off a plate with a fork)
Coca Cola
Honey, lemon and hot water

God, it was horrible. Those suffering have my sympathy.

pinkyonthebeach · 15/04/2011 15:27

Anything could set me off. So my list was very short too.
Could only eat:

Bran Flakes
Still cloudy Lemonade
M&S Ploughmans sandwich
Ready meal callinoni.

Fruit gums helped me at work for a while but then didnt work anymore. Ryvita then worked very well.
I used the wrist pressure bands too. The only times I did throw up I hadnt been wearing the bands.

SuiGeneris · 15/04/2011 18:05

Bread (fresh from a proper baker- any other sort made me sicker)
Pasta (sometimes simply with butter and parmesan)
crumpets
green apples
bananas
Lotus biscuits
Hot milk with dark chocolate powder

But I think it is very personal. At the time just seeing the M&S adverts for meat made me feel sick and sometimes even hearing fatty foods mentioned made me sick, so many of the options listed above, which clearly worked for others, would not have worked for me.

DrSeuss · 15/04/2011 19:21

Plain doritos.

There seems to be quite a strong salty theme going on. Anyone with medical knowledge know why?

sancerrre · 15/04/2011 19:24

Greasy carbs.

Specifically poutine - chips, cheese and gravy, a Canadian thing.

feralgirl · 15/04/2011 19:44

Porridge in the morning; I have to choke it down but it's the only thing that stops me feeling sick later.

Fat coke, also amazing for my headaches.

Crisps are an absolute godsend. Not sure why it is that I need to eat them so much!

Too much starchy carb for lunch makes me massively sick in the afternoon though.

stripeywoollenhat · 15/04/2011 20:14

nothing is really helping: i feel like i have been poisoned, all the time. not actually vomiting, though i'm not sure that's going to last: 7 weeks tomorrow, at least 6 more weeks of this if last time was anything to go by.

exceedingly sorry for myself, would like to go to sleep and not wake up till week 14.

stripeywoollenhat · 15/04/2011 20:15

apples and oranges, though, smell gorgeous to me at the moment. everything else stinks.

slowangels1 · 15/04/2011 22:00

marmite
toast
peanut butter
cheese and potatoes
covent garden pea and mint soup
home made cheese scones
chocolate milk

FirstimeMummy · 15/04/2011 22:01

i found chewing gum or sucky sweets helped lol

lorisparkle · 15/04/2011 23:10

I lived on salt and vinegar pringles and lemonade for the first 16 weeks with DS1. I always had a pack of polos in my pocket and sucked one as soon as a wave of sickness came over. For some reason kiwis as well - maybe I needed the vitamin C.

With DS2 and DS3 I did not feel as sick but found that the more I ate the better I felt.

lorisparkle · 15/04/2011 23:14

Oh yeah forgot milk made me feel really sick - even the thought of it. When I was expecting DS2 we were trying to get DS1 to drink cows milk. At bedtime we used to sit him in front of In the Night Garden and coax him to drink the milk. I just wanted to be sick and eventually I could not talk about or see anything about In the Night Garden without feeling very sick.

vintageteacups · 15/04/2011 23:28

Oatcakes spread with cream cheese and topped with pear slices.

Salt n vinegar crisps
