As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

Hope you're feeling better now Lucinda? La, presumably conventional heartburn remedies aren't helping at all? I have a rennies or two every night before bed to keep it under control, but then mine's not too bad.

theonly, it's just awful itsn't it? It seems to drag on and on, and it is so boring and frustrating and miserable. I find the mental effect of it all almost harder to deal with than the actual sickness. Sometimes it seems just inconceivable to me that we should have to put up with all this; it's an outrage on mind and body! But I guess all we can do is keep going, and it will be over eventually. Sorry, realise this doesn't sound very encouraging, although it's meant to! :)

LucindaE · 10/06/2011 12:05

Caramel Pearl all, thanks for symapthy, am much better. and feeling for you, Pearl, at the seeming endlessness of it. Remember 'This Too Shall Pass' as the wise man (Well there are some!) said to the king. It will one day be a memory, and you will be in the pink castle at the end of the board game along with Caramel Fluffy MOH LaTrucha and all...
Agbag and Everyone How are you today?

lottieb22 · 10/06/2011 16:15

Glad growth scan went fine LA. I had one yesterday and growth seems to have slowed down a bit so still a good size but now actually able to plot measurements on a chart!! I'm having another scan on monday though at Leeds as the lateral ventricles in his head are just above normal measurement - they've been upper limits since 20 weeks but now just gone above normal so local hospital referred me for second opinion. I have to say this is the worse pregnancy I have ever had and will be glad when its all over - hopefully will have healthy baby and nausea will cease!!!! Am actually looking forward to sleepless nights and sore nipples!!!!!!!
Good luck on monday with scan grumblin!! You must be counting down the days! xx

La73 · 10/06/2011 17:16

Lottie hope all goes well Monday at scan, do let us all know. Off the chart sounds scarily huge! I agree, early chaotic days when alien lands will be doddle compared with pg ;)
Agbag think your scan was today? Hope all went well.
Lucinda know what you mean, i only have to cough, sneeze or laugh these days! Def no more kids so op for me asa after birth!

Hope all doing ok, sending happy non-ick vibes everyones way and especially for an early/on time arrival for Grumblin if at all poss x

diddygirl · 11/06/2011 23:56

Hi all
Another incontinent puker here!!!

I don't want to speak to soon but I think I have turned a corner. I haven't been sick for 4 days now and seem to be regaining some energy.
Hope everyone ok and good luck with the scans. X

LucindaE · 12/06/2011 11:00

Grumblin You are so right to want to avoid another induction, I blame all my birth health problems on that induction, but it must be hard when you have suffered so long Sad. Countdown time now...
Good luck with scans, all.Lottie does that mean a Ceaserian if so? Bring on the sore nipples and sleepless nights.
Cocoanuts I am so happy that you are cured.
Pearl I'm glad Rennies help with the heartburn. I drank bottles of Gaviscon, didn't shift it, milk, illicit teaspoonfuls of Bicarb of Soda, nothing worked...How are things going? Are you any better today?
Caramel Thanks, I didn't realise you suffer from migraines, too. Ugh! No joke with a toddler...
NitNat is quiet...and Fluffy MOH LaTrucha [waves face].
Diddygirl Good news that all is quiet on the puking front.
TheOnly Have you been better over the weekend?
MaryLou How do you feel now? Any improvement?
All I hope not too bad...

nitnatnaboo · 12/06/2011 21:15

Helloooo! Have been quiet as have had back to back houseguests for 3 weeks. No more until well after baby arrives! Hotel Nitnat is closed!

My main gripe (and, admittedly, nothing compared to HG at 10 weeks!) at the moment is still feeling sick halfway through every meal. DH now used to me throwing down my knife and fork and looking fearful. If I have one mouthful too much, I have to run off to prepare for puking just in case.
Have done well on Spatone since finding out about low iron but ran out on Friday and took one of my ferrous fumarate tablets. Puked up everywhere a couple of hours later and didn't make it to the loo in time - sick all over carpet, doors, bathroom, me, my hair....new Spatone obtained post haste!

Grumblin you poor thing - hang on in there. Come on Minigrumblin give your mum a break!

Lucinda hope you are back to full strength after yet another migraine.

La have you stopped working yet?

m1nn1em0u5e · 12/06/2011 21:25

Hi, just found this thread.

I suffered from Hyperemesis with my previous 2 pregnancies & am now almost 7 weeks pregnant. I think its happening again :( Im so sickly, can only seem to keep water down atm, got absolutely no energy & smells, sounds seem so much stronger....saw gp last week about sickness & she said to go back if I cant keep liquids down, unsure whether to go back & see her tomorrow, the way I feel, I just cannot go into work next week....forgot just how bad HG is....

caramellokoalalover · 12/06/2011 21:31

Oh nitnat the mid meal fear is awful. I remember if I took too big a mouthful that could be the end of the meal for me. Small bites right up till the end of the pregnancy. Strange how it could come on so quickly. Glad you've closed Hotel Nitnat. Hope you can get some rest in before the big B'Day!

Grumblin hope you're ok...ideally labour is imminent and all this will be over very soon! On a positive note, at least having HG makes looking forward to childbirth easy Grin. Most people I know dread labour but I felt like 'bring it on' so I could be rid if the HG.

Lucinda glad you're feeling better. Weirdly during both my pregnancies I only had one migraine each time. Was like the hormones of pregnancy kept the migraines away. Maybe my body knew there is only so much one person can take Smile. I'm sure they'll be back when my period returns as they seem to be tied to hormones with me. Another good reason to keep on exclusively breastfeeding as long as possible!

Hope everyone's weekends have been restful and not too vomitous!

fluffywhitekittens · 12/06/2011 21:58

Hello all, I now have my early birthday present iPad, so very excited that I can finally try and catch up!
Here in the pink castle we are having some teething issues and tomorrow evening is new parents evening as dd starts primary in September - can't believe she is nearly 5!!
Just a reminder to all you surfing that it will indeed pass and it will all be worth it :)
Welcome MInnie, sorry you have to join but I would definitely go back to the GP ASAP. I put off going back with dd as didn't really know what was normal sickness and ended up in hospital after keeping nothing down for over three days :(
The only sorry I haven't replied to your pm earlier - hope You're feeling a bit more human now. If you're going to be in the area again let me know, also do you know if you're having a boy or girl or are you keeping it as a suprise?
Waves at everyone else and hopes to be able to keep up with what's going on as long as dd doesn't keep stealing the I pad to play Barbie fashionista and princess games on!

m1nn1em0u5e · 12/06/2011 22:40

Thanks fluffywhitekittens, im definitely going back to the GP tomorrow, been vomiting all evening & ended up a blubbering mess by 10pm, really forgot just how bad it can be. Thanks for the advice x

MotherofPearl · 13/06/2011 09:23

Hello all,
Lucinda, thanks for asking, I've been feeling a bit better these last few days, and a bit like Diddygirl think I may have turned a corner as I've not been sick since Friday. It's such a relief to have some respite. May also be because I've been having 11 hours sleep a night :) Anyway, I'm not holding my breath because I've had these corner-turning moments before, only to be cruelly cast back into nausea & voms, so we shall see...
Poor Nitnat, that vom sounds awful! I don't have the mid-meal vom anxiety, but always do afterwards - I find I sit very still and will the meal to stay in!
And welcome to Minnie - hope you manage to get to the GP today and get some medication which helps. Poor you, I think around 7 weeks is the worst time, but hopefully you'll be able to get it under control with meds.
Hope everyone else doing OK and has a good week. :)

m1nn1em0u5e · 13/06/2011 09:38

Thanks MotherofPearl, my Gp wouldnt prescribe any medication the previous 2 times I have had it, will see if anything has changed today since my last baby 4 years ago, couldnt even tolerate water last night, feel dreadful x

MotherofPearl · 13/06/2011 10:01

Minnie, you might not have the time or energy to do this now, but if you read back through this thread, so many women on here who've suffered from HG stress the importance of getting onto the right medication as soon as possible into the pregnancy, before the HG has time to get properly established. Many recommend taking someone to the GP appointment with you to back you up and give you support. It seems as if many women have had to really push hard to have this condition recognised, and to get the appropriate treatment. I waited until I couldn't even suck on an ice cube without being sick, was so dehydrated spent two days on IV - don't wait until you get to that stage. I can't believe you've had to endure 2 HG pregnancies with no meds :( - don't let it happen again! Really good luck, keep us posted on the outcome.

caramellokoalalover · 13/06/2011 11:18

Minnie sorry you're suffering. Really hope your GP will prescribe something for you. If they won't, can you try another surgery? I know having the energy to see multiple GPs is probably not energy you have but if you can find a medication early on that helps there's a good chance you won't get as bad as the previous times. The HelpHER website has a great section aimed at practitioners. Hopefully you can point your GP in that direction if you need to. I went to the GP armed with printouts from that website plus a few other bits of research that showed early, aggressive intervention helped. Best of luck and hope today is a better day.

LucindaE · 13/06/2011 11:19

M1NN welcome - sorry you feel so foul, I do hope you get some sympathy and meds at GP's t oday. Are ice lollies, jelly or sips of flat coke no use? You are at the most awful stage, as well you know, if you have had it twice before. Moan all you like, that is what this thread is for. Sad
NitNat Poor you, re ferrous f iron pills, it was the same with me, and it is so demoralising not only to be sick, but to get it in your hair, clothes, furniture, and carpet, all of which have to be cleaned up...I managed to be sick so that it hit the top parts of the wardrobe once myself, and my O/H saw some remnants I'd missed later and said, 'What's that red stuff up there?' Tomato...Shock I couldn't look a pasta bake in the face for years...
Pearl I do hope you have turned the corner...
TheOnly I hope work is better today? How are you?
Fluffy Welcome back, lovely to have you with us again. How old is baby now?
Caramel Poor you re menstrual migraines, same here, I have often wondered if there is a connection between migraine and Hyperemesis and hormonal imbalance as so many of us seem to suffer round periods.
Keep b/f as long as an earth mother type...
Grumblin Thinking of you. Sending you hugs (gentle) and to Anyone who finds them acceptable...
Everyone After the worst violent stage has passed (hopefully), how do people feel about home made veg soup? Can at least be creamed so no lumps, it it might reappear...

LucindaE
xx

AgBag · 13/06/2011 12:35

M1NN Hope you managed to find something that works for you. I tried various medications but found Ondansetron the only one that worked for me. I found jelly with mandarin segments and very weak orange squash the only things I could stomach and somehow survived to 21 weeks.

I had my scan last week and it was lovely. All is fine. Its incredible how the baby is growing normally (it was just me that was starving!), so I'm very relieved.

I thought my vomiting had stopped two weeks ago. But unfortunately I threw up last night! I'm hoping it was just a blip!

Hope everyone else is doing well

nitnatnaboo · 13/06/2011 12:48

Hi Minnie sorry you are enduring HG pregnancy #3, like poor Grumblin on here. I echo the others and say get to the GP's and if they won't medicate, get another GP. My GP in pg#1 also refused to prescribe anything; this time round it took 2 visits to 2 different GP's to get anything and I still ended up in hospital a couple of days later.
Good luck. Hope you have been able to keep some liquids down today.

MOH100 · 13/06/2011 13:24

Hi minnie. Just to repeat what everyone else has said about getting treatment - dont do another unmedicated pregnancy, there are treatments which work. Also, you should demand a referral to an obstetrician if your GP refuses to medicate. It's not acceptable for GPs to simply stick their head in the sand and pretend HGs not happening. If they wont' treat, they must send you on to someone who will. If they refuse to refer, see another GP. If you can't, find out which of your local maternity hospitals runs an early pregnancy clinic or a pre pregnancy clinic. Call them up and ask which of their consultants treats hyperemesis gravidarum and how to get an appointment. If the person on reception doesn't know, ask to speak to a midwife. You can also try calling pregnancy sickness support on 024 7638 2020 to ask how best to go about getting treatment. Do you have a friend or partner to help you, I took my husband to the GP with me along with a stack of research papers, she refused to treat but sent an instant fax referral to the womens hospital where I had a great consultant. But please don't delay, early intervention works better. If you got no joy today, go back tomorrow, don't feel bad about hassling the health professionals, we've almost all had to do it.

I woke this morning thinking "oooooo is grumblin in labour yet?!" :D

welcome Minnie, hope you got some meds today, and congrats on number 3! you are very brave having endured it twice already.

waves to fluffy I will do! prob be next month when I am on maternity leave, oh I cant wait!

well, I was more sick last week but to be expected, then started bleeding Fri/Sat so freaked out! I came out the bathroom, knickers round thighs, gusset thrust out towards OH to make sure I wasnt imagining it (he had just woken up, said it was like my first period or something!) anyway, it has stopped now and wasnt much in the scheme of things, baby moving loads (and it hurts!). Delivery suite were really good on fone and then midwife was this morning too, and I have a Doppler so could hear the heartbeat. I think I did too much last week! Off for a pelvic band fitting in a mo at physio. And at 31 weeks, I finally look pregnant! I have a definite bump (not when lying down, it just looks like too many cakes but its getting there!)

nitnat - cant believe so many visitors!! you have done well. i am also finding mid-meal I think I am going to be sick, its normally cos I shoved a massive mouthful in, but I often have to run away just in case.

this morning, somehow in the shower, water got up my nose and all off a sudden I projectile vomited and did a massive wee at the same time. it all happened so fast! thank god I was in the shower!

Lucinda - I keep meaning to say hoping yr migraine has gone (although that was now ages ago!) so hoping it is staying away and hope yr Mother is ok xx

huugs for all I have missed xxx

La73 · 13/06/2011 16:00

nitnat Sorry ferrous fumarate didn't work out, I was sick with sulphate but found can tolerate 1 a day of these. Just when you thought it was safe to put away the sick bowl! Know what you and Caramel mean about meals, think just so little room makes nausea and heartburn worse if eat anything other than 'bits' :(
Minnie welcome (although sure u wish you didn't have to join us). All have stressed need to get meds prescribed asa so I can only reiterate - all research points to this making difference - poor you to have 2 PGs without!
Grumblin hope u ok???
Theonly glad all ok now with bleed and baby seems fine, always bit scary.
agbag glad scan all ok and feeling better despite blip
Fluffy nice to hear from you -early happy birthday, glad u r loving iPad, I keep stealing one from work, great for toddler play despite screen cleaning req afterwards;)
Lucinda are u still travelling a lot? Hope yr Mum's ok.

Pearl really hope this is 'turned corner' time for you x

Cannot wait to finish work in 2 weeks time - hurrah, replacement finally found from our Spanish office so manic couple of days training/meets but relief we havevsomeone. Am now down to 3 day week and DD reduced time at nursery so although not exactly restful good practice for being FT mummy again, as after all this baby will give me a break after PG and be complete angel right???

grumblinalong · 13/06/2011 16:27

Hi all - no labour here, been sick most of weekend Sad think HG is having a last minute ball in my body. Was meant to go for a growth scan today but had to cancel as no way could have done bus ride without vom. Rearranged for next Monday, hopefully won't need it by then Hmm and have to see consultant afterwards to 'talk through the options', whatever that means. Had protein & keytones (only ++ though) in urine at MW on Fri and now it seems I have a very embarrassing problem in the bottom area Blush which I thought were piles but MW seems to think is a prolapse. My body is collapsing, literally! Sorry about the tmi.

theonly What on earth is a pelvic band?! Sorry to hear about the bleed but bet you felt reassured having the doppler. Shower puking/weeing is very efficient of you girl, well done!
nitnat Naughty, you should have closed hotel nitnat long before now. Know what you mean about the nausea during/following eating. I get so hungry so gulp down icy drink and a bit of food and then go all green & waffy, it's so annoying.
la Countdown to ML begins here - it is very lovely not having to go to work even if you have to do mummy duty. You will feel much better for not having to drag yourself there morning & evening. hope your DD lets you have some rest.
lucinda Veg soup helped (as long as there were no lumps) after my acupuncture, had to put loads of salt in it. Stayed down so good tip.
caramel & fluffy very Envy of you two in pink castle and ipad land Grin
minnie Poor you, you really do forget how bad it is until the familiar feelings come round again. Then you think 'Oh no, what have I done?' MOH's post a few pages back is really helpful. You must insist that you get medicated this time.

Waves to everyone and slinks back to lying on the sofa.

Scan today shows current estimated weight of my boy as 8.5 lbs!!! Eek - still 4 weeks til my due date. Been advised an early induction might be best!! Which is fine by me! The end of this miserable pregnancy is in sight!!! Good luck grumblin hopefully not long now! Lots of sympathy to all those early sufferers - can't say anything more than all the already very sensible advice on here. I think if I was to go through this again I would be wanting advice and treatment from an obstetritian not a GP so I think its very sensible to get referred ASAP. Good luck all!! Hopefully my next post will be with news of godzilla being born!!
