As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

Hope everyone is having a restful, non too sicky Sunday x I'm having bit of an emotional one for no reason just v pregnant and fed up with feeling tired, nauseous, heartburn etc etc!

Grumblin know how you feel down below - is Nato no go area with thrush & piles, and well let's face it, that's not gonna get any better anytime soon no matter how much olive oil you rub down there...

Littlewizz how's Molly holding up? Hope anxiety isn't too much for you and you're managing to get some rest.

Lucinda had to chuckle at no knickers gate story - i'd heard cotton only advice but not commando, are you sure person who advised didn't have ulterior motive?!? Similar story of shame, many years ago went along to awards dinner: pretty young and unsophis, wearing new silk skirt, moment stepped out of taxi in front of Park Lane Hilton gust of wind sent said skirt upwards, covering face. Luckily wearing pants, ableit thongs, and as arrived v early (see above) thought noone noticed. Later when collecting award (not so impressive as sounds I promise, early new media days when practically giving them away) was greeted with the none too clever but apt 'oh look it's the thong flasher', moment ruined...

LucindaE · 30/05/2011 10:03

LA Lol! I bet you were glamourous in that thong and silk skirt, though...Collecting media awards sounds grand for all that? Couldn't have been an ulterior motive in the 'no-knickers please' recommendation, it was in an old and totally humourless book I picked up in a second hand bookshop that recommended 'low crotch trousers' tooShock.
Bank Holiday today, why isn't there one from Hyperemeis, Everyone? I hope Alias got an emergency appointment and some meds from GP, that BensGirl is slightly improved? Grumblin dare mother hen ask how you are?NitNat I hope no bile runs. Fluffy and Caramel how are those babies? MOH I think your L/O is a toddler?

La73 my heartburn reached crisis point last week so got Omeprazole from GP. It's a miracle - have just managed to eat an orange and no payback. Usually I'd eat it and be regretting it 10 mins later - figured with three weeks to go not going to make much difference to baby now. Sympathy with the piles too - every morning when I'm throwing up I'm 'reminded' of mine, sorry TMI I know, but I keep thinking what's going to happen with them when I'm pushing? With DS2 I vaguely recall the MW discreetly holding a square sanitary towel type thing on my bottom to cover up anything that was happening there. I remember at the time laughing to myself inside thinking 'All sense of personal dignity has well & truly GONE.'

lucinda That no knickers story is hilarious. I must admit, like LA, I've never been told not to wear knickers Grin However the natural yoghurt thing can't happen at me as yoghurt/milk/cream etc sets my HG off (flipping stupid food aversions!) Have actually been quite well this past few days - still sick but no blackouts/dizziness to content with.

How is everyone else waves? Hope your BH has been fun.

yes Lucinda my wee one is a toddler, 16 months. about time I though about having another one but I just can't bring myself to face all the puking again. We all had a tummy bug last week and I had to sleep with an emergency bucket by the bed - brought back too many well supressed memories of not being able to be more than 3 feet away from a bucket. She might have to be an only child.

I heard from mumsnet as well. Not great news on the word count. We can have two linked pages of 1000 words each, including quotes from mumsnetters. It also has to be edited in the mumsnet house style, whatever that means. At the moment the article runs to 4000 words!!! That's a lot of chopping so I'm going to have to be really selective about what stays. Its a dilemma because apart from a few hundred words of what I'd term extras, everything else is need to know info. I'm seriously contemplating setting up my own website then I can put anything I want. A 15 year old neighbour recently helped me set up a couple of community websites so I can get him to do me a hyperemesis one. Any ideas for what to call it?

LucindaE · 31/05/2011 11:03

Grumblin Poor old you, Sad if still sick, for sure you are hardly 'quite well'. Oh, dear...Nonsense about tmi! No such thing. Piles are the pits...Re; Yoghurt, I meant I'd heard you actually apply it to the poor old pudendum direct, I did, but whether it was that which helped or the no knickers fiasco, who knows? Glad that you have something for the heartburn, and have actually stmached an orange...

MOH SmileCross posted, sorry about mum'snet rules. A website - that's a great idea. 'Morning Sickness Out of Control'? or 'Uncontrollable Pregnancy Sickness?' or Just 'Hypemesis Support' might be the thing?

MOH there used to be a British HG website called 'Blooming Awful'. It no longer exists though, I think it's quite a good name if you could get hold of it! There is no blooming for us is there?

Sorry to hear about piles, thrush, indigestion etc. I think those sex education videos they use at schools need updating - to include all of these plus stitches, tearing, melasma and of course HG. I think there would be a lot less teenage pregnancies happening if they knew all these glamorous things that might happen.... When I was at school the video showed the bump just growing and the baby just popping out, no side effects or damage mentioned!

I'm still the same, sick every morning but not too bad the rest of the day. Still on two cyclizines and there's trouble if I miss one, so don't think I can cut down any more for now. I'm into Morrisons salad bar at the moment, not the same at all if I make something similar myself, it's going to get expensive I think.

johnnyd1 · 31/05/2011 14:42

Hi all just popping in for a quick update and to catch up with the poor newbies forced to join us!

Feeling very lucky as now 31 weeks and pretty much cured, just a quick morning bile run then as long as I take 2 Metachlopromide and 2 Ranitidine every day can pretty much function as normal. (Also have now reached my pre-pregnancy weight!)

Poor Grumblin so glad you're nearing the finish line!

For the newbies the liquid that got me out of hospital was cloudy apple juice. Not as acidic or sweet as clear juice but not too bitter. Managed to tollerate enough to get my keytones down to 2++ (no mean feat I can tell you!) Went off it big style after a couple of days but it got me home!

Also please don't even think about work until you are definitely up to it. No they won't understand but that is not your problem. Get a Doctors note, they can't question that so their ignorance regaring what, to be fair to them, is a very rare condition is of no consequence. You and your baby's health must take priority. Even at this late stage when I feel practically cured it only takes one thing to start things off again, missing a tablet a couple of weeks ago getting a cold last week to name 2.

MOH the article is far too good to waste, if MN won't publish it whole then yes an abridged version is better than nothing but the website idea is fantastic and I'm definite you can rely on support from every one of us.

To everyone else (now sadly too numerous to name individually) keep taking every day as it comes, I know it doesn't feel like it now but you will get through it.

Luce xx

grandmaagain · 31/05/2011 16:55

moh shame on mumsnet!! that is a brilliant, informative and throughly necessary article that definatley needs to be published. I would hope that you can get your own website set up because it would be of great help to so many people not just the sufferer but partners and families who all feel the strain and need help and support, you have worked so hard for the benefit of others it is a shame now that you are not getting the credit you so deserve.

theonlyhb2 · 31/05/2011 19:12

i agree with grandma, I cant believe mumsnet! deffo need your own website then, it was so hard to find anything on HG that didnt make me think I wasnt being a wimp for not coping with morning sickness. and even now, I might not have the puking, but the exhaustion is debilitating and then that makes me puke

MOH100 · 31/05/2011 20:53

To be fair to mumsnet, their webpages have to be uniform in style and similar to each other in length and they're not set up to be expert on any one issue, more a point of contact. If they publish an abridged article I can put my new website as a link and put the full info on that. That way anyone searching can easily access it. I've been looking at domain names, I can get www.pregnancysicknessadvice.co.uk

Again, if anyone has any more quotes they want publishing, post them and I'll send them to MNHQ when i send them the abridged article.

Bensgirl · 01/06/2011 14:09

Dear All, thank you for your lovely comments and advice... I took a turn for the worst after my last post but I was so determined not to go back to hospital! After throwing up four times in a row on Sunday, I held my nose and downed a diorylate and my thiamine and folic acid and got ANGRY! The next day I felt a bit better and I've discovered cranberry juice and thin slices of toast with peanut butter. I've not been sick for two days - I'm just knackered! Work have been great and I'm going back to the docs on Thursday for my next sick note. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN! It's so good to know you're there...xx

nitnatnaboo · 01/06/2011 14:59

Bensgirl aaah peanut butter! I had several happy weeks living off that in January! Glad work have been good and you've had some good days.

I am a new woman today - think the iron is kicking in! Nesting has commenced!

Random non-HG news: was feeling good this morning as had sorted mysterious fishy smell (thanks google!) in ensuite (shower switch was burning out). Electrician has been and sorted today. However, this morning mysterious larvae have started dropping from the ceiling beam above our bed.....off to google now. Blardy houses!

MotherofPearl · 01/06/2011 15:45

Hello All, not posted for a while so thought I'd have a little catch up. I had my 16 week check up today and all seems OK. Baby's heartbeat thundering away, which is always reassuring. Was told I have glucose in my urine today, not sure why but doesn't seem to be something to worry about. Told mw I'm still being sick about twice a day and still on 3x cyclizine, but they're very matter of fact about it all. Anyway, now I'm starting to look forward to the 20 week scan on 30/6, mainly because I will then be halfway through this awful pregnancy!

MOH, really hope you do your own website - I think it would be very difficult to remove any of the info in what you've written. What's good about it is that it covers everything, so cutting things out kind of defeats the purpose I think.
Bensgirl, glad to hear you're doing a bit better. HG does seem to go up and down. Haven't tried peanut butter but you've inspired me to give it a go :)
NitNat, good news that the iron is taking effect, although sounds like you have a lot of domestic stuff going on! Google can be a bit of a mixed blessing with things like that...
Hope everyone else is doing OK. I'm so jealous of Grumblin who as far as I can remember is now at the top of the list for release from HG hell! :)

MOH100 · 01/06/2011 22:03

I've been looking at www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk to get an idea of what's missing that I'd like my website to cover. They've added some stuff since last time I looked at it, and one of the things they're trying to do is get support groups going and they're looking for volunteers to do things like fundraise and distribute leaflets to hospitals. Also, there's a psychologist who wants to speak to women about their experience of suffering nausea and vomiting. I don't know if she wants women who are currently suffering, or any of us who have had it but there's an email address if anyone's interested [email protected]. You get a £10 Boots voucher for taking part - enough for a couple of bottles of gaviscon. It looks like people are starting to take this seriously...maybe one day we'll hear the last of 'have you tried ginger?'.....

grumblinalong · 02/06/2011 09:18

MOH Thanks for the link, I'll definitely contact the psychologist as last time (with DS2 HG preg) I am convinced I had undiagnosed PTSD afterwards. Maybe she can give me some tips to ensure I don't go down the same path this time.

nitnat & bensgirl I have had crunchy peanut butter on white sliced bread pretty much every day for breakfast this past 4/5 months. Will prob not want to look at another jar again after this month! Think it's the very slow burning carbs which helps HG sufferers. nitnat what the hell? Larvae dropping from the ceiling? Sounds utterly weird. bensgirl I think getting angry with HG is a very good thing. Sounds like you are not succumbing to it which will help mentally.

luce lovely to hear from you; glad your pretty much over the worst now. Good advice to you for the others.

lucinda Didn't get down to wales this week Sad loads of hold ups over the house move so we thought we better stay around. How's your week been is DD off school?

theonly waves. How's tricks?

I can not stop listening to music at the moment - Spotify is my saviour because all our CD's are packed up ready to move. The poor DS's (who are off school this week) have been subjected to my taste in music, early 90's indie and classics like Bob Dylan, Neil Young & Johnny Cash. I keep listening to the saddest, most emotional music & reminiscing about my youth...think it must be my hormones Grin Definitely makes me feel better though, think it takes my mind off the nausea.

LucindaE · 02/06/2011 10:21

Grumblin Did you get my message about -ahem - the youghurt being applied rather than consumed to the afflicted parts...How are you generally, the countdown begins for your release... Half term was busy!I so agree about PTSD, I burst into tears once when walking down a road where I did one of my Puking in Bin Performances. I am always astounded at how you (and others)have survived multiple bouts of this scourge (and all the way through, too) without totally cracking up from the lack of understanding. Agree with you about anger for Bensgirl sounding good. It's not fair!
Bensgirl Most people would say that amount of puking is bad enough...Glad about active baby. My O/H would agree with you about Johnny Cash! It is odd how many women with Hyperemesis somehow manage to move. It is hard enough to move out of your bedroom...
NitNat Larvae? Ugh! How horrible!
Pearl Sorry still puking.
Luce Lovely to hear you're doing well. Grandma (waves frantically face).
And waves also for purring Fluffy Caramel and Moh. MOh LaTruch at the beginning of the old thread, was going to set up a website and didn't she come back on and say she had about two months ago? I couldn't get on to it, will have to try again, trust me...I did volunteer for
the Pregnancy Sickness one, but they didn't come back to me. Will have to do so again.
How is Everyone? LA NitNat Grumblin how goes the waddling?

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 02/06/2011 11:20

Slight relapse and have gained a chest infection.

This is clearly never going to end.

allias · 02/06/2011 11:43

Hi all so sorry not being in touch, I did get to docs but had to see a not so good one but she did give me med , I managed to see my preferred doc for my pg appt and she was a lovey, signed of work for few weeks with view to be off more if needed. Am so happy now not stressing about work and will go in to see manager. My blood pressure was high and I have lost some weight(whooohooo) about 7 kilos but honestly I really need to loose much more so not worried about weight loss, I am happy but hope baby is getting nutrients.

I have now caught a nasty cold/flu type bug which is horrid but weirdly gives me something other than HG to focus on, how odd that I half like a cold just so I can focus on something else, HG really is a mind play. I am still very tired and haven't much interest in "fun stuff" can't be bothered to go online much and am Sooooo grumpy.

MOH I'll look out for your website.

Thanks again for all the lovely msgs and I hope to catch up more often.

Hope everyone has a good day today

Ps so sorry can't remember who is loving peanut butter, peanut butter on toast was a Godsend for me for the past month and got a huge jar of skippy which but for the last week I'm not so keen and have moved onto blueberry jam - I'm craving grape jam but can't find any over here in the UK so tried blueberry and Im hooked!! Weird as Im not really into sweet stuff this pg and still off chocolate.
I can't find a drink that doesn't make me heave yet, grape juice with ice was good at a friends BBQ but had some grape juice yesterday and I had to chuck it away

La73 · 02/06/2011 15:45

How are you all today? Also love peanut butter, penchant for it spread on crispbread myself :)

Just had 34 week appt with midwife & consultant. Unbelievably to me, I'm also measuring small so need to have growth scan next week. Will let all know how goes but thankfully have reassurances from Grumblin and other past sufferers that not usually a problem so not too worried at this stage :) Have to see consultant again in 2 weeks re this weird genetic disorder, after he's done more research but likely to just mean having experienced consultant on hand in 2nd stage.

Grumblin thanks for hearburn med tip will speak to GP as no real relief yet. Plugged into iPod constantly, agree lifts the soul, husband's a musician so DD has been subjected to wide variety of musical genres and loves Dusty Springfield and most northern soul. Although to be honest she'd probably say fave is ding dang (Lazytown)!

MOH great work again. Feels like we should be doing more to help if you fo go ahead and create website. Perhaps chip in for domain registration etc although not sure how practical a help can be virtually absolutely onboard if need anything.

Nitnat glad iron tabs working, def helping my energy levels complexion but larvae now that's just bizarre...

Lady and Alias sorry you have flu, coughing is pits when have HG :(

waves to Lucinda as waddles over to say hi

Tip for today after efforts to 'tidy' before appt - if you can't see directly below yr bump don't attempt hair removal without use of mirror...

RottenTiming · 02/06/2011 16:01

Have any of you ladies had a prescription for Ondansetron (Zofran) ?

Anyone tried it ?

It literally saved my job/career when I had HG in pregnancy.

After my first pregnancy when I thought I was a freak for vomiting so much with HG I discovered lots of women who had been signed off work for weeks as their doctors would not prescribe anything effective enough to enable them to work. My next door neighbour was amazed that I'd got something effective prescibed, although I'm sure it probably doesn't work for every women that tries it, and she confessed to having been in bed/laying down on the settee for months signed off as unable to work when she was pregnant the year before we moved next door to them.

I tried stemetil, cyclizine and loads of other stuff but Ondansetron was the only thing that worked. I understand it is expensive so there is reluctance to prescribe it and my GP was happier that I was given it under the supervision of the Obs/Gyne consultants at hospital but it is sooooo worth it to the economy, it kept me out of hospital and working.

nitnatnaboo · 02/06/2011 17:18

Larvaegate update: Help! We are infested! Send Pied Piper, Child Catcher, Kim n Aggie and Dominic from the One Show. Felt crawling sensation in bed - found one inside bed. Cue rapid change of bedlinen at 11pm last night

Dropped some off at pest control earlier today. Verdict = fly larvae. Theory: bird nesting in eaves dies, fly larvae get thru beam via crack, emerge and drop onto our bed.

Now have to seal all the holes in the beam, encasing the blighters in silicon for eternity. I want to move to a brand new house!!!

Hope this will distract someone from HG for a minute or two!

lottieb22 · 02/06/2011 17:44

OMG nitnat That is horrible!! It actually made me feel quite queesy!!

Ooo peanut butter! Once I started eating again I think I had a about 4 weeks of peanut butter sandwiches and strawberry nesquik! How nutritious!!

MotherofPearl · 02/06/2011 19:19

NitNat that is truly horrifying! Poor you! Like you say, good distraction :) I'm in complete agreement with lottie about nesquik milk.
