New Hyperemesis Support thread founded by the lovely LucindaE

As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

Can I just ask how many of you pregnant ladies are on their second or more baby?
Just trying to work out how mad I am to contemplate another. Smile

caramellokoalalover · 06/06/2011 21:36

Just sticking my head in to say thinking of you Grumblin - you're inching closer and closer to the pink castle!

latrucha I just had number 2 and bucked the trend of HG worsening with subsequent pregnancies. Still had HG but nowhere near as bad as with my first. Plenty of support here with these lovely ladies if you go down that route and lots of advice back through the thread on what to do to prepare (as much as it's possible to).

Lots of gentle hugs to all and Brew and [biscuits] for those that can indulge. I'm following the thread and waving pompoms to cheer all you amazing women on to the finishline.

ElliottsMummy · 06/06/2011 21:39

Latrucha this is my second pregnancy but my first was fluffy and normal!! Didn't even know what HG was until about 16 weeks ago!

grumblinalong · 07/06/2011 13:46

la trucha This is my 3rd baby and my 3rd lot of full preg HG. Definitely the last-this third one was a 'surprise' baby as I had vowed never to get preg again after my 2nd. At times this pg has felt like a religious ordeal or trial, something to endure - I am now a week or two away from having my baby (yes!) after 219 days of vomiting according to my diary. This thread has been a big source of comfort to me because no one can really understand HG unless they have experienced it. Only you can make the choice to have another go - it might not happen (the HG), it might but it is a time limited illness and if you keep 'This too shall pass' at the forefront of your mind you may feel ready to have another go. Good luck whatever you decide.

MOH100 I think the website is a great idea. I am happy to contribute to the costs of a domain name (PM me to discuss if you like) and add content, research new info etc if you need any help? I'll be a bit busy over the next 2 weeks Grin but I was a journalist in a former life and have some experience of maintaining a website (content, editing and layout etc) so if you need a hand give me a shout.

Lucinda hope the thread is quiet due to general well being of posters and/or weather. Your jokes aren't rubbish, at least you have a go Smile my sense of humour has gone awol. I had to laugh this morning though when DS2 asked 'When you poo the baby out will it fall into the toilet?' Think maybe I was a bit too open when describing how babies arrive.

caramel Thanks for your encouragement - hope you can do some jedi mind trick on me and post when you think my baby is coming like I did when Scarlett arrived. How is she doing? Are you getting enough sleep?

elliotts mummy and ladyofmanor glad HG has done a disappearing act and you feel more positive.

Hope all the newly pregnant are ok and nitnat, luce, theonly, la, coconuts et al are all plodding on. Sorry to anyone I've missed - I need a chart Smile

just a quickie, I have tonsilitis and have only just managed to sit up at computer again - honestly if i hadn't just had a period i would have been sending out for a pregnancy test, two days lying in bed feeling sick far too reminiscent of HG. DH taken day off to be nursie and negotiated extra day at nursery for DD plus the miracle that is penicillin and i'm on the road to recovery. All good positive comments on website, I do need all the help I can get and i will follow it up from everyone who's offered. Agree that HER is good but very american, need UK version for advice on treatments and maybe a database of sympathetic doctors. domain name only £7 for two years so I can take that financial hit myself.

theonlyhb2 · 07/06/2011 17:45

just dropping in to say Hi. Not been too bad, just a hormonal moody bitch with the worst pelvic pain. my poor OH. I shouted at him for saying "Erm" last night :P

any help with website needed just ask! I shall have plenty of free time from 15th July as stopping work and then I don't really know what you are supposed to do with a baby, I assume they just sleep and eat (and OH changes nappies) and then I have lots of time to myself waits to hear the sniggers from everyone

fluffywhitekittens · 07/06/2011 18:02

Waves and marks place.
Wanders off sniggering at theonly :)

lottieb22 · 07/06/2011 20:02

latrucha This is my 4th pregnancy and first time suffering with HG. Fine in first pregnancy. Normal N and V in 2nd a little worse in 3rd. This time round vomitting several times a day and unable to work for 10 weeks!!

latrucha · 07/06/2011 20:46

It seems very unpredictable! I just can't decide. Everything practical says no more babies, but every time I come to that decision, the next morning I'm back to square one.

theonlyhb2 - Ah. I tried to write a joke but it just sounded catty. PMSL though Grin

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 07/06/2011 21:04

HB Grin

latrucha - this is my second pregnancy (fourth if you count mcs but no sickness with those). Had pretty bad N&V in first pregnancy and this time ten times worse.

MotherofPearl · 07/06/2011 21:57

Hello all,
Glad to hear a few people are feeling better; that's really good news :)
I'm still up and down, some better days and then some pretty awful ones. But, plodding on and trying to keep my eye on the admittedly-still-distant finish line (23 weeks and 2 days away!).
latrucha, I've had the same pattern as Coconuts I think - this is my 2nd pregnancy, and the first time around I was sick all the way through to the end, but not ever full-blown hg (i.e. no hospitalisation & meds & weight loss like this time). I have days when I think I must have been mad to actually intentionally get pregnant again, but then when I think ahead to the baby coming I feel really pleased and excited, and remember that it is worth it. I guess that it is 'only' 9 months of your whole life (well that's what I keep telling myself), but 9 months of feeling and being sick feels like eternity while it's happening. But as others have said, it's a tough personal decision that only you can make - good luck! :)

nitnatnaboo · 07/06/2011 22:20

Hi, Lucinda and everyone* - I'm still here! Spent most of the day in bed today- just knackered! Bit of nausea and retching the last couple of days. Running out of room in stomach, I think.

Was measured yesterday and still spot on for dates. Baby has head down but is facing the stars. Hopefully she will turn round in time - a back to back labour is not what I ordered and surely I have acrued some good Karma!

Grumblin 10 days to go! Hope scan is OK and maybe baby arrives a few days early to give you relief at last! How are you feeling?

LA and Lottie how about you?

Caramel Fluffy great to hear from the pink castle Pipoca how are you and the babe?

Theonly it's brrn 5 years since my last pg and I've forgotten everything I ever knew. I think you're right - they just sleep and drink and your husband changes all the nappies. Yes, that sounds about right.

Latrucha my first pg I had severe n&v and weight loss, but was not hospitalised and did not have drugs, and it went at 16 weeks. This time has been much worse and I am definitely not having any more, (even if I was a spring chicken , which I'm not) as it's just too disruptive to family life.

AgBag · 08/06/2011 11:01

Hi All, Sorry I've not contributed for ages. After finally finding a medication that works for me (Ondansetron) at 18 weeks the nausea is under control and I'm eating again! In fact, I've started regaining some of the weight I lost and am successfully weaning myself off the tablets (now 21 weeks) with only very slight nausea. Yay! I really hope it lasts. I am still exhausted and feeling very weak but am hoping after a few weeks of normal eating I can build my strength back up again. I just wanted to say thanks so much for the support I received on this thread, its been invaluable.

MOH100 The website sounds great. You mentioned you wanted a list of sympathetic doctors. I found the volunteers (midwife and Dr) at Pregnancy Sickness Support extremely helpful. www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk Dr Gadsby and one of the midwives both spoke to me over the phone and gave a lot of help.

However, that note that you wrote before (I read an early draft of it a few weeks ago) is the most informative thing I've read and I wasn't able to find information like that all in one place on the net. So the creation of your new website will be vital to help others in the future.

grumblinalong · 08/06/2011 11:23

la Hello, you've gone quiet? How did you get on with the GP and heartburn issue? Also have you had your growth scan yet? Mine is on Monday, not going to be much bloody use though.

theonly ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, evil cackle Grin They do basically eat, sleep, puke and cry for the first few weeks but for some reason instead of being able to get on and have a shower, or watch tv or do some housework you feel compelled to hover and watch them 'in case' they wake up then you wonder where the hell the last 4 hours just went and how you're still in pyjamas at 4pm. I think hippie's call it 'nature's way'.

nitnat Don't ask me how I am as I'll either cry or bite your head off Grin- I'm so bored of being pg and being sick every day. Dh tiptoes in the door at night waiting to see if I'm a blubbering pathetic mess or a screaming harridan. Poor DS's don't know whats going on. I have a feeling this one is going to refuse to budge, I refuse to be induced though (stamps feet). DS1 was induced and it was hell.

motherofpearl So sorry that you are still having bad days. Don't count the days down though, you'll drive yourself mad.

lottie This one might feel so much worse because you have other DC's to look after-I think thats why each bout of HG has got progessively worse with me because I've had to stress about DS's.

waves to fluffy, lucinda and caramel In pink castle.

moh How's the throat?

marylou242 · 08/06/2011 15:16

LaTrucha this is my second PG and I have HG again. The first time, I had it until 8 months and Drs refused to prescribe anything as I 'wasn't ill enough to be admitted' (despite puking 12+ times a day, losing loads of weight and keeping virtually nothing down) Angry. Second time, I went to the doctors as soon as I got a positive test and basically said I'm not going ahead unless they prescribe something if I get HG again. Fortunately the new Dr's I'm at now have a different policy and found it hard to believe I didn't get anything last time. I did get HG again, but being prepared early and finding medication that works has helped loads. 18 weeks in I'm still sick every morning but managing okay the rest of the day and haven't been off work sick (had 3 months off last time). This PG wasn't planned though. We are pleased as we wanted another but were so scared of HG I'm not sure we'd ever have had a planned second baby. I have to say though, I'm not doing it again, and after this one, me or DH will be getting 'the snip'. Who this will be is a bit of sore point at the moment.

nitnat and grumblin not long to go now. nitnat I'll keep fingers crossed that your baby turns. We are all due easy 2 hour long labours.

I'm glad some others are starting to feel okay. Sorry to everyone that isn't though.

MOH100 · 08/06/2011 17:30

Thanks to the wonders of antibiotics I no longer feel like I'm swallowing razor blades and more importantly was able to use the last precious nursery day of the week to start work on the website. I've bought the domain name www.pregnancysicknesssos.co.uk and I've created a google site. It's not fit to be seen yet so I haven't made it public just yet, but intend to in the near future.

On a related topic, I've got the material for MNHQ down to just over 900 words on each of the pages - one general, one on coping strategies. I'm not so bothered about culling now that the website is a reality because I'll just put it all there and ask MNHQ to put a link to it. The last thing I need for this is short quotes that they can use on the page. I know some of you already offered some but I incorporated them into the text so they're not quotes any more and I can't un-incorporate them as I don't have the exact wording any more. Sorry I should have kept originals but I didn't and I could do without trawling back through the thread to find them. Quotes on anything general or on coping strategies and you would have to be prepared for your user name to be given alongside the quote. Thanks.

and theonly yes babies just lie there angelically allowing you some valuable me-time... and it just gets easier - now my DH can walk I just don't know what to do with all my spare time, that's why I'm doing this website really, it's so I can have a little project while she gets on with emptying every bookshelf and cupboard in the house all over the floor. and lets be honest the shopping and laundry really just does itself doesn't it?

MOH100 · 08/06/2011 19:13

tpyo alret obviously meant DD not DH - DH mastered the art of walking some years ago...and he's less prone to emptying bookshelves...

LucindaE · 08/06/2011 21:15

Everyone Just staggered up, dreadful head down loo migraine for last couple of days, but I shouldn't whinge, that's nothing to a pregnancy of sickness. Grumblin 219 days?! Sad And now it must be 221, you poor thing. Not long to go. I am glad you have found this thread a support but my goodness, who wouldn't be a 'harridan' or a 'blubbering wreck' in such circumstances and you were working too, until recently, and with two L/O's...Sending gentle cyber pats. And still up for helping with website...
MOH Really good news about website. Grin I'm glad your throat is a little better.
TheOnly Take care you don't have a sleepless one as I did. That it the worst shock I have ever had. Awake 18 hours out of 24?! They're meant to sleep that long...
Pearl Sorry you are still plagued by sickness.
NitNat You looked like a spring chicken in your photos, anyway...
MaryLou Sorry about still suffering from m/s. Not off work this time is really good...
LaTrucha I stopped at one, for other reasons as well as the run-in with Hyperemesis, but I rather regret it.
Everyone I hope you are all doing fairly well, and back anon.

All fine with growth scan today, in fact seems on large size if anything!

Ah theonly I remember all those plans I had for my 'spare time' during mat leave 1st time round...
Latruncha pretty bad n & v with 1st incl weight loss but manageable and pretty much over by week 12. So bit of a shock this time round! Erm not sure if we're indicative of any type of pattern, sorry. Although do agree with Grumblin that having other DC makes it harder to cope with.
MOH heehee, glad u feel better & well done on getting site started.
Agbag glad things getting bitveasier for you, good luck w scan tomorrow x
Grumblin haven't managed trip to GP yet but hearburn is still awful, tks for asking. Maybe try reflexology and lie about due date?? I'm gonna, want to avoid induction this time round too as pretty intense.
Nitnat glad measuring fine and still time for her to move so fingers crossed for you (long walks, even though knackered?)

I'm doing ok and was cheered by seeing LO on scan today. Just tired, plus Grumblin & theonly, feel your rage. Have hit third trimester irritability stage big time - called bus driver a twa* this morning, oops!
Wasabi frozen yoghurt is new addiction - refreshing and tart, wish I'd discovered it months ago!

La73 · 08/06/2011 21:17

Cross posted - hope you feel better now Lucinda x

LucindaE · 09/06/2011 09:19

LA I'm so glad about growth scan fine, sorry about heartburn, I found that only the blandest diet helped and even that didn't make it go,or medicine.Sad Thanks for enquiring about me, I am more human today...

caramellokoalalover · 09/06/2011 14:48

Sorry to hear you've had a migraine Lucinda. After HG they are my next least fun thing to endure! Hope you're feeling better today, I always find it takes a couple of days to feel 100% again. Rest up.
nitnat Scarlett was back to back until I went into labour so plenty of time for your little one to turn. Oh and I did none of the baby spinning stuff either despite knowing she was b2b from 38wks (too lazy me).
grumblin I sense you're in the 'oh-god-not-another-day-of-this-the-baby-will-never-come' zone. sending you lots of patience and will be honing in on my jedi mind powers to try and vibe your labour.
MOH100 I can help with the website too - digital project manager/producer in former life.
theonly I am wondering what I did wrong with DS as I felt I had no time to do anything yet now with a toddler and a newborn I'm thinking if I had just the newborn I'd have time to write a novel, clean the house and maybe even shower all on the same day! Grin

theonlyhb2 · 09/06/2011 17:16

(moan alert)

god I am in full on rage for no reason, so tired as worked all week training the new girl, she been really good and taken lots of pressure off me that I didnt expect but got home and puked everything I had eaten today. Nothing digested. My pelvic pain is ridic, I am used to back pain but this is off the scale. I am so bored of this now!! I am so bored of being sick all the time! And then I feel bad for complaining as compared to how it has been this is nothing. I puked and peed myself too, and that didnt happen at the beginning! Grrrrrr.

LucindaE · 09/06/2011 20:26

Poor old you, TheOnly. (shock)Horrible, I hope it is 'just' the fatigue. Sending you waves of sympathy. Woman with Hyperemesis shouldn't have to work at all.

LucindaE · 09/06/2011 20:28

TheOnly forgot to add, well done on that being your first puking and peeing performance, your pelvic floor is in good condition. 'LucindaE, can't have a puke without having a pee'...Oh, dear. It is humiliating, I know...
