As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

i get lumps in my throat, always worst after eating, and I find the only thing that helps is a can of Dr Pepper as it makes me burp! Burping is good, and only can's seem to do the trick. I only need a mouthful. Thats great yr Dr took you seriously, and you took yr hubby, and made follow up appointments. Its just a relief for you more than anything to know they dont think you are making it up or just cant cope with normal morning sickness (oh that makes me mad, MS I would LOVE!) I feel for you not getting paid, since 1st March I no longer qualify for sick pay as have had my allowance as was off for 2 & half months but luckily have holiday entitlement i can use for days off instead, but it does stress me out as that was supposed to give me over a month off @ full pay.

fluffywhitekittens · 04/05/2011 18:15

Cake - I have been given early scans each time when I was hospitalised to see if it was twins as that is a higher risk of hg - are there twins in your family?
Will post more later as ds just woken and grumpy but wanted to read and catch up with everyone.

grumblinalong · 04/05/2011 18:27

cake TWINS, TWINS, TWINS arrrggghh!!!! How exciting! Did they say this is prob why you're being so sick? There's a good chance it will pass at 16 weeks ish(hopeful emoticon). I'm so pleased for you!

la hello! 30 weeks! We're getting there eh? Just need nitnat to confirm that she's nearly in the 30's then we can work out who is next...think it's pipoca (36wks), then me (34wks on friday!), then you (30 wks), luce & nitnat & theonlyhb (late 20's wks?), coconuts & elliottsmummy (mid 20's weeks?), then littlewizz, cake (13 wks?), marylou, agbag, mother of pearl & lottie are you all 20 weeks or less? Poor eggy & agbag are earlier? Sad, my heart goes out to you both having early days HG in tis warm weather.

fluffy waves, how's your ds now? Is he strapping?

caramel I love the name scarlett too, tis a very literary name.

nitnat How are you? Do not abandon us Grin Your ikea/weeing on the lino tales are a bright spot in this dark HG thread! i always think of you when I'm doing a sitting on the toilet due to terrible pelvic floor and puking into the bath (nice).

lucinda this too shall pass. I never realised how literal that saying is with us pregnant ladies, indeed we will be 'passing' something in the not too distant future...eeek!

Cake, WOW at twins, bet you werent expecting that bombshell!! How terribly exciting Grin

Grumblin - I'm 18 weeks at the moment, anatomy scan in 16 days, not that I'm counting Grin We should draw up a little table, to keep track.

Maybe something like:

Coconuts: EDD 3/10/11, next scan 20/05/11

If you all C&P and add yourselves on we can keep track :)

marylou242 · 04/05/2011 21:01

Had my 12 week scan yesterday, all seems okay and there is only one in there! Sorry haven't been on here for a while. I've not been feeling too good. Still on the cyclizine and touch wood only have the bile run and maybe one other vomit per day, but I'm so tired and feel constantly sick, it's really starting to wear me down now. I have a few retching sessions each day but nothing comes out. I'm having problems swallowing the cyclizine now as well. Since one hung aroun in my mouth for a bit too long and I found out their disgusting bitter taste, even the sight of the bottle can make me retch now. Yuk. I'm very jealous of all of you 30 weeks +!

eggy glad you've got some meds. Are you taking B6 with them? I was a complete zombie until I started B6 as well. May be worth a try?

Cake hope you've got over the shock of them finding two. I think we must both be due about the same time - early-mid November?

Lucinda I'm glad it's not just me who likes the juice from tinned fruit. Especially peaches. In fact, I could do with some now and we have none in...

Agbag I'm glad you've found a supportive Dr. It's just a shame they are so few and far between. It's definitely worth pushing until you get help though, but difficult when you're feeling this bad. It makes me cross that a lot of people must feel so ill with HG and might not have the energy or help to fight rubbish doctors. I hope the cyclizine works for you. One tip I got on here, (sorry can't remember who from) was to take a vitamin B6 with each cyclizine, it cuts down on the zombie feeling.

caramel I'm pleased to see you had a nice birth, it sounds perfect, and I'm glad Scarlett is being laid back for you. I'm hoping for a laid back one this time, DS has always been 'high maintenance'.

New superfoods: arrowroot biscuits (apparently good for 'settling the stomach'), honey loop cereal and pears.

La73 · 04/05/2011 21:05

Cake wow twins, that explains a lot. Congrats! Like Fluffy I too had early scan to check if twins as HG apparently common if so! Fluffy hope DS over grump and sleeping well, how's bubba?

Grumblin I know exciting times ahead - sitting on pilates ball in anticipation already but is killer on the piles! Not sure if could handle rasberry tea with nausea although did buggar all last time as DD dragged out kicking and screaming 2 weeks overdue! Think Nitnat is almost same as me so we'll be on countdown together. Agree feel for those pre 16 weeks when at most hellish :(

nitnatnaboo · 04/05/2011 21:35

Helloooooo! Back from no-Broadbandsville (thanks BT) and holiday. Only 1 bile run/wet floor and a bit of retching/threats of overflow vomiting (due to the all inclusive buffet) whilst on hols so not too bad. In non-HG news, DS (5) was caught in the hotel running to show us a fish swimmming in a plastic cup. He had caught it in the hotel's posh indoor pond with a couple of new friends! Needless to say, fish and pond were hastily reunited!

So, in the "race to get out of HG hell" I am 29 weeks today. Definitely waddling. Bump continues to grow outwards at the front. TMI cooking alert . Was having trouble stirring risotto on the back ring of the stove, without burning bump on the oven door at teatime today!

Cake Shock Shock Shock. Hopefully that explains the HG!
Grumblin sorry you are still being so ill so late on. You poor thing.
La are you still trudging to work on the infernal tube?
Hello to the newbies. So sorry you are at the beginning of the road when it's the absolute pits.
Lucinda are you back from your travels?

Gentle hugs to all
xxx

nitnatnaboo · 04/05/2011 21:39

La have you tried Sheriproct from GP for those piles? Normal chemist stuff did nothing for me but that worked a treat.
Cake forgot to say congrats also!

ElliottsMummy · 04/05/2011 21:57

congratulations cake what wonderful news, hopefully not too much of a shock!?!?

Theonly I too am lacking in paydays!! Have been off work for nearly 11 weeks and was only entitled to 2 wks sick pay, don't work enough hrs to get SSP and my OH works too many hrs to get the alternative to that grrrrrrr!!! Have been approved to go back to work on Monday so money coming back in soon hopefully!

Good idea with the due dates - nice to see where we all are at!

ElliottsMummy: EDD 25/9/11, next scan 11/05/11
Coconuts: EDD 3/10/11, next scan 20/05/11

nitnatnaboo · 04/05/2011 23:07

Teehee. See my profile photos for an artist's impression of Lucinda's HG control room! Grin

Nitnat: EDD 20/7/11
ElliottsMummy: EDD 25/9/11, next scan 11/05/11
Coconuts: EDD 3/10/11, next scan 20/05/11

caramellokoalalover · 05/05/2011 09:35

AgBag glad you found another GP who is more sympathetic. Give the cyclizine a few days to work as I think that's one of the meds that isn't immediate in working. Also I'd say not to hesitate to ask to try something else next week when you see the GP again if the cyclizine is not working. There are so many medications you can try, as well as acupuncture, which your GP might be able to give you a referral for on the NHS depending on where you are in the country. Acupuncture worked wonders for me although it was expensive needing one or two treatments a week in the early days. Hope things ease for you soon.

Cake - wow, twins!! How exciting, congrats.

marylou sorry you're still feeling so rough. Am sure you've tried this so sorry if I'm repeating the well known but have you tried holding your nose as you swallow the cyclizine? Helps some. I had the ondansetron melts when pregnant with Scarlett as I had just that problem of not being able to swallow tablets or keep them down. Will let those in charge know you are due an easy laid back baby this time round Wink.

nitnat - the all inclusive buffet - you are a woman after my own heart trying to tackle a buffet with HG! Love your story of DS 'rescuing' the hotel fish. LOVE your artists impression too...Lucinda please put me on the couch with baby Scarlett along with Fluffy and her DS. Everyone, I have a pot of 'I survived HG' badges waiting for you...pipoca you're next to collect!

Sorry for those not getting paid whilst ill. In my first pregnancy I stopped working at 8wks and didn't get paid for the rest of the pregnancy. Needless to say I got used to being frugal before the baby arrived! Lucky being so ill means you aren't thinking about all the shopping and outings you're missing out on too much. And you don't spend much on food either Grin

MotherofPearl · 05/05/2011 10:12

Nice to hear everyone's news. One major side-effect of hg is making you count down every single day of being pregnant (or maybe that's just me?!). Every night when I get into bed I feel so relieved to be one day closer to the end, although of course it can turn into a bit of a watched pot/never boils situtation! So, in the spirit of keeping track of our dates of release from hg hell, I'll add mine to the growing list:

MotherofPearl: EDD 19/11/11, next scan 16/5/11
Nitnat: EDD 20/7/11
ElliottsMummy: EDD 25/9/11, next scan 11/05/11
Coconuts: EDD 3/10/11, next scan 20/05/11

LucindaE · 05/05/2011 10:38

NitNat lolGrin I love that board! Now you can go forward (waddle) three places to 'holiday with minimal puking/bathroom floor having a rest...' Bump sounds splendid!
Cake Wow! Congratulations on a family all at once, but no wonder you have been suffering, with double the hormones, no doubt...Really exciting.
I wonder if identical or non-identical? You will soon be a fine size...
TheOnly Risk assessment sounded sympathetic, anyway...Will they reduce hours further? Are you called 'Samantha' then? That is a nice name..
MaryLou Constant nausea is still horrible, dry retching is in some ways worse than actual puking.
Cocoanuts How are things today?
Grumblin 34 weeks - 'passing something' soon indeed, lol... sorry you are still on the 'puking regularly' square. Sending you gentle cyber pats about that, oh dear. Does the kitchen sink still come in use? Cooking is so very horrible when suffering. I just hope that it is nothing like as often as in the first part of the pregnancy? ML anytime now, thank goodness...Yes, I was addicted to that juice when suffering, something about sweet and salty things. Still drink it sometimes, to my shame...Have you tried that fresh mint tea yet?
LA Thirty weeks. I betyou thought you wouldn't live to see the day at one point...
ElliottsMummy Take it as easy as you can at work, so easy to feel bad again if you overdo it. Is it a staggered ' return or back into the thick of things? I hope you are feeling energetic enough for it?
Fluffy I hope baby is ungrumpy now...
Agbag Pearl Eggy How are things going with the rehydration fight?
Yes, Acupunture 'saved' me, you might say, it was really dramatic in my case, but while it helps everyone a bit, I think it varies a lot. I have heard those armbands don't penetrate deep enough to be effective on the points.
Anyone Temporarily Overlooked I hope things are not too bad...
Everyone I have to go on my travels again to High Wycombe first thing tommorow, but back on Sunday. Mother hen will be thinking of you all.
[flapping and clucking ] face.

LucindaE · 05/05/2011 10:42

Caramel Lovely to hear from you as always, I am still so delighted that you have come through it and got your Scarlett!
Pearl You will be up there and ready to deliver though it seems so far away now...

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 05/05/2011 11:00

Have arranged the list in EDD order - Sorry I am such a pedant Grin

Nitnat: EDD 20/7/11
ElliottsMummy: EDD 25/9/11, next scan 11/05/11
Coconuts: EDD 3/10/11, next scan 20/05/11
MotherofPearl: EDD 19/11/11, next scan 16/5/11

Feeling ok today so far. Bit nauseous first thing, resulting in a frothy-spit run, but no bile :) Gagged a few times during teeth brushing but otherwise ok so far, no tablets, four days running :) :)

Lucinda - have fun on your travels :)

Pearl - oh yes i am counting down the days, you aren't the only one!

Marylou - great news on the good scan :)

theonlyhb2 · 05/05/2011 11:13

I love this due date list - I too am counting down the days, in one way I cant wait, and in another I wish it was longer!

Nitnat: EDD 20/7/11
Theonlyhb2: EDD 16/08/11, next scan 25/05/11
ElliottsMummy: EDD 25/9/11, next scan 11/05/11
Coconuts: EDD 3/10/11, next scan 20/05/11
MotherofPearl: EDD 19/11/11, next scan 16/5/11

MotherofPearl · 05/05/2011 12:20

Argh, I need somebody to be lower down the due date list than I am! Anyone? Maybe AgBag or Eggy? :)
Coconuts, I'm impressed you've done 4 days sans tablets - well done! But the frothy-spit run is awful isn't it? Even thinking the words 'frothy spit' kind of bring it on :(

ElliottsMummy · 05/05/2011 13:12

Lucinda my job is only 12 hrs a week -spread over 4 days so only 3 hrs a day plus it's a sit-down job so I think it will be fine. My work had been v. Understanding so I could probably drop a day if I find it too much when I get back into things. Can tell I'm ready to go back as am getting bored!!!

I have also been counting down the days but have to stop it because, now I'm feeling so much better, I really want to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy like I did the first time round! Feeling lots of movement now so it's finally starting to get exciting instead of just feeling like life was passing me by!!

Stil undecided on whether to find out the baby's sex next week - really torn between knowing and having a nice surprise!! :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 05/05/2011 13:21

Elliottsmummy - I'm starting to feel movements now too, we're only a few days apart. I'm definitely trying to find out the sex if they can see. We wanted to find out with DD but she closed her legs and is still as stubborn 3 years later Grin Glad to see we've both started to feel better at around the same time. Are you on the october bus?

ElliottsMummy · 05/05/2011 13:53

coconuts what's the october bus? (sorry if I'm being dense!!)
I had the 3/10 as my original due date but it's was changed when I went for my dating scan :)
We found out with DS but some family wanted to know and some didn't which made things a bit difficult!! Also we are taking DS with us to the scan and if he knows everyone will know! So if we do decide to find out we will have to get them to write it down or something!! :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 05/05/2011 15:02

It's a thread here full of people due in October. I'm not on it as it's really busy but sometimes have a read to see if everyone is at the same stage as me.

How old is your DS? My original date was 5/10 but it has moved back a few days after all my scans (I've had three so far)

I can't make my mind up whether to take DD in with us or not. My mum will be there too so I don't know if I'll be allowed to have DH, DD and mum in there with me. Might have to relegate mum and DD to the waiting room!

I'm sure if you say to the sonographer not to say it out loud and just to write it on the scan report then you can read it after, when you're ready when DS' ears are out of the way Grin

marylou242 · 05/05/2011 15:25

Coconuts good news that you've stopped the tablets, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but hopefully you've got through the worst bit now. I'm in trouble if I'm late with a cyclizine or forget one altogether, it messes up the rest of the day and just can't stop retching. I think it will be a while before I can cut down. They seem to last 4 hours then wear off, just wish I could take a 4th one about 8pm.

Caramel thanks for holding nose tip. I'll give it a try.

Elliottsmummy we found out the sex last time and we're glad we did, it was really helpful with sorting the bedroom, clothes etc. We're going to try and find out again this time although I'm sure it's a boy again (DH's side never produces female offspring). Another advantage is you only have to concentrate on one set of names. We found boys names really difficult.

Cake it just occurred to me that twins are normally a bit early aren't they. So that means you've got a few weeks less of HG, yey! Hopefully it will have worn off by that stage though.

Have added my dates to the list. I'm making a point of not telling family the exact date this time because I was 10 days late last time and was having about 10 messages a day asking if there's any news!

Nitnat: EDD 20/7/11
Theonlyhb2: EDD 16/08/11, next scan 25/05/11
ElliottsMummy: EDD 25/9/11, next scan 11/05/11

Marylou: EDD 9/11/11, next scan 22/06/11
MotherofPearl: EDD 19/11/11, next scan 16/5/11

AgBag · 05/05/2011 16:22

AgBag: EDD 18/10/11, next scan 09/06/11

I'm struggling to keep up with everything on this thread, but congratulations to the lady having the twins! Sounds ideal, one less pregnancy to produce two babies, perfect. I can't imagine going through another pregnancy with HG!

I took two cyclizine yesterday and reacted so horribly I took a prochlorperazine in the evening and am taking them today. I feel better on them, a clearer head, but I'm still vomiting lots. I don't know if it can be expected to find a medication that completely stops the vomiting... or if thats asking too much. I didn't give Cyclizine much of a chance, am not sure if i should try it for longer, but the spaced out feeling and lump in throat was awful, and I still threw up around 4 times while on them that afternoon. Will see what the doctor recommends next week.

I'm 16+3 now...... and praying that I'm going to be one of those people whose sickness stops around 16 weeks. PLEASE GOD!!!!!

Hope everyone else is coping ok.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 05/05/2011 16:31

Agbag - you need to take the cyclizine religiously, on a strict routine and accept that they make you feel shit and zombie-fied. It will wear off about a week, trust me. You really need to give them a chance. After the zombie week I was vom free.

Marylou - Definitely have to take them regularly. If you are an early riser it does make it hard to have just three tablets. I'm lucky that I don't work, am SAHM, so kind of laid in as late as I could and took the tablets as late as possible, so I timed the last one for late evening. Mine lasted about 5-6 hours.

Nitnat: EDD 20/7/11

Marylou: EDD 9/11/11, next scan 22/06/11
MotherofPearl: EDD 19/11/11, next scan 16/5/11

This list is coming together nicely :) Is there many more of us? Grumblin, La, cake? Apologies if I've forgotten you!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 05/05/2011 16:33

Oh and Agbag, if you vom straight after a cyclizine and you see the whole tablet in the vom recepticle of choice, you can take another. If you don't see it in your vom then you can't. The tablets usually take about 30-60 mins to kick in. Sleep and rest as much as you need and after about a week to ten days the daze will suddenly lift. Are you taking a B6 supplement?
