As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

Hello and happy Easter to you all, haven't been able to get online much at all recently, very excited to hear Caramel's news xx

lottieb22 · 25/04/2011 16:57

Congratulations Caramel!! Lovely news!
NitNat just read that article - what horrible comments from some people! How sad that in this medical day and age there isn't a treatment readily available or that the care women get with HG seems to vary greatly from region to region.

AgBag · 26/04/2011 12:31

Thanks for the tips. Avomine isn't working for me despite taking it 3 times a day. Will return to the doctor today to see what he suggests.

marylou242 · 26/04/2011 17:19

agbag hope you got on okay at the doctors. I looked into the diclectin a while ago and found some costs somewhere which I can't find again. Anyway, doctors can arrange to import it but it's really expensive so don't think they'd do it. Interestingly it's a combination of antihistamine and vitamin B6. I'm taking cyclizine and B6 - not sure how similar cyclizine is but at the moment I'm not being too sick. Feel sick constantly though and am very fed up at the moment. I just want my appetite back, want a big drink of orange squash and a massive meal. I would honestly give birth once a week rather than be pregnant. I HATE it!

theonlyhb2 · 27/04/2011 16:10

think i am having a relapse :( so shattered all the time and started puking 3pm at work yesterday and 1pm today. Been less sick today than yesterday but then driving whilst puking into a jiffy bag and using yr t-shirt as a tissue would be pretty hard to beat.

on the upside my new Dyson arrived today :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 27/04/2011 16:17

Yay for the new dyson. Boo for the sick.

Think I am slowly coming out the other side. Had no cyclizine today or yesterday and only one the day before. Eating much better but can still only drink things that aren't plain tap water. Am 18 weeks Sunday so think I have hopefully seen the last of it. Still carrying tablets with me just in case. Still getting sudden waves of nausea but no actual sickness so far :)

littlewizz · 27/04/2011 20:09

hb Sick while driving is rubbish, could be dehydration making you more sick as with the warm weather we preg HG ladies all ready dehydrated arent getting enough fluid so the hormones might be getting more concentrated making it worse. Just a thought or its just the HG being really mean! Yay for the Dyson, I got my new Sebo Pet Vacumn a few weeks ago wish I had one ages ago as so much better than my rubbish henry hound which would bang against the furniture and the walls and drive me mad!!

I can also reccommend a GTECH cordless sweeper which is very very good and very light and brilliant for the stairs, it doesnt take hardly any effort and great for just quick toddler accidents and a quick wizz round if not feeling up to hoovering and waiting for a man to help is going to take far to long!!

Well had my 12 week scan yesterday.... YAY I made it!! Bubs was really wriggly and was bouncing around prob high on lemonade! Scan lady was lovely and gave us loads of pics. We told DS1 last night cause he came right out and asked if there was a baby in my tummy! He was very happy but only wants a boy and doesnt want to share his toys or his bed!!

Docs called today to say my midwife wee sample which got sent away had some nasty bugs in it and did I have any symptoms, which I dont - anyway got me to do another sample and gave me a prescription to use if got any symptoms over the holiday weekend - hopefully get results on tuesday as have an appt and some more cyclizine!! Hope dont need antibiotics as doc said will prob cancel out my anti puke drugs and make me more sick! JOY!! Oh well there is a baby at the end!!

Hope your all looking forward to the BIG Wedding on Friday..... not particularly into the royals but nothing beats a good wedding and some good old british pomp and ceremony to take your mind of puking and meaning other halfs are home an extra day to ease the pressure (or make more mess which ever way you look at it!!!)

AgBag · 27/04/2011 20:43

Well.. I've now been moved from avomine to Prochlorperazine 5mg 3times a day. Am still vomiting but am feeling better so far.... lets see if it lasts. I'm 15 weeks now, so am really hoping that the sickness will stop soon! really fed up.

theonlyhb2 · 28/04/2011 12:21

littlewizz I am worried about dehydration, and drink lots, but then I worry it just sits in my stomach as sometimes it seems to.....back to sips of water and Dr Pepper (oh the burping makes me feel better!) am I right in thinking you are Cambridge way too? Congrats on the 12 weeks scan, its amazing to see them in there OK when we been so sick!

agbag I feel for you, its just so frustrating being ill all the time. I have turned into one of those moany fb status people I have spent years deleting as friends!

Praying I am OK today.......special K for breakfast, some Dr Pepper, a lemon bakewell, some fruit......am now at that point where i am not sure what to do. I need to eat more but I dont think it will stay. I could take a tablet but at work and dont fancy that drowsy drive home. i could not do anything and just carry on feeling this shit......i think that may be the lesser of all the evils!

CakeForBreakfast · 28/04/2011 16:56

Hello all,

I am 12 weeks now, but waiting for scan next week. I keep imagining my sickness is starting to subside, but then comes back. It feels like me and my sickness are having a fight for control at the moment which is how it has felt in the past when it is going to wane. .

Anyone here getting colds/bugs/viruses at the moment. I have had a couple back to back. Very frustrating.

On the plus side, 4 day weekend so I get dh to palm the kids on help out

LucindaE · 28/04/2011 18:27

Hello Everyone Back from High Wycombe, scrolled through, nothing recent from NitNat and Grumblin ... I hope not suffering too much? AgBag welcome, sorry that you have had a horrible time up until now, how are the new meds turning out? I do hope you get something that helps, it is so isolating and exhausting.
ElliottsMummy I am glad that 18 weeks you are turning the corner, hopefully, and that sounds hopeful for you, too, Cocoanuts. TheOnly Congrats on 12 weeks scan, that is always so encouraging, but re; puking, Oh, dear, are you very tired or is this a move backwards? Cake you will be the winner, and Hyperemesis will gradually lose ground. MaryLou I am sorry you have that nausea, even if it is a lot better than being sick, it is dismal. How long along are you now? Has LO given up the 'play puking' now?
Wizz I've got here - a note scrawled 'Goodness about...' and can't read my handwriting- whatever was that? Sorry about that, if I scroll through to see trust me to delete everything...Wait! It must be 'good luck for scan' ?
Lottie lovely to hear from you. Hope you are more or less recovered?
Love to all....

LucindaE · 28/04/2011 18:33

Wizz It was 'goodness about bugs in sample1' and 'congrats on scan'.
theOnly Puking in a jiffy bag while driving requires some skill. Shock It must have been awful, you must have been able to keep your eyes open during, too?!!!

fluffywhitekittens · 28/04/2011 19:07

TheOnly sorry you're feeling rough again, hopefully it is just a blip, try and take it easy over the 4 day holiday.
Littlewizz glad to hear scan went well, will you find out sex at 20 week scan? DD was insistent that she wanted a sister so we decided to find out to give her time to get used to it if it was a boy - which he was :)
Cake, hopefully things start to get better after 12 weeks.
TheOnly I'm near you, we're in East Cambs. Are you at the Rosie?
Hopefully everyone can make the most of the long weekend to rest up as much as possible.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 28/04/2011 20:23

Sadly not for me lucinda After two days vom free and wake up to huge bile run this morning, desperately needing to pee as well so was trying not to wet myself at the same time Blush cue need for cyclizine. Angry Just when I thought things were getting better.

Managed to get DD to playschool and went for a cooked breakfast, seemed to settle ok and managed rest of day ok :)

Those of you in Cambs, I am only a 25 minute train ride from Peterborough, so not too far from you all :)

theonlyhb2 · 28/04/2011 20:48

wow, we are all quite close. I am going to the Rosie, Fluffy :) but as my Dr's surgery midwives cover Hinchingbrooke, I feel a bit in the dark about what going to happen when I am due to give birth! Its on my list to worry about at 32 weeks ;)

LucindaE · 29/04/2011 18:33

Cocoanuts Oh, no! to bile run back, poor old you, but so often when people have had a couple of good days the trend is upwards. (hopeful face).
Cake As Fluffy says, lets hope that the 12 week mark is the sign of Hyperemesis starting to lose the battle...
Lots of Cambridgeshire people, then...I have only ever lived in the west, north west, south east and Wales but love those skylines further east...
Whizz and TheOnly how are things today? Still horrified by the thought of having to drive and use that jiffy bag, TheOnly.
How is Everyone doing? Elliott'sMum I hope still improving? AgBag how are new meds working? MaryLou how is the naseau?

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 29/04/2011 18:38

Quick question, when taking vitamin supplements how long do they generally take to make a difference? I have a theory... I was taking my multi vitamins for a week, forgot them for a day and the next day was the day I was ill. They contain B6 which helps HG so is it possible that missing one day after only a week will have made a differnce?

littlewizz · 29/04/2011 22:15

Hi all, Hope you all enjoyed the big day and are all feeling suitably patriotic and that it has taken your minds off puking! hb I am in Witney Oxfordshire so still a trek for cambridge. fluffy dont think we are going to find out sex at 20 week scan as i shall prob be having a c-sec and feel then you will know the date, the sex and then prob even the name before baby even makes an arrival so looking some surprise needed I feel. DS1 has been told he will get what he's given!!!

Have had no wee infection symptoms so hoping sample was contaminated, have done another and hopefully results will be ok as really not keen on pukey antibiotics!

coconuts I can usually be found when puking with my legs crossed trying not to pee! It is not funny!

I have actually had a really good 2 days, was sick a bit yesterday afternoon, but the nausea has kept at bay and have actually managed to vary my diet from pizza, salt and vinegar crisps, new potatoes and salad cream to adding a fish cake yesterday (with salad cream!) and some chicken today and I even had a cup of tea!! WOOOHOOOO! Wondering if I will be able to reduce cyclizine down to 2 soon so as to feel less sleepy! but prefer sleepy to pukey! My weight has gone up 4lbs now last time at this point it had gone down 1stone! To be honest I could have done with loosing a stone but putting weight on is preferable to puking 24/7 , putting baby at risk and trying to cope with DS1 in that state so now just feel fat, pukey, spotty and pale - still think the whole blooming thing is a complete lie!

Well off to bed for me - DS1 has a 4 year olds birthday party (for which I have managed to make a hello kitty cake!!) followed by family dinner for which my lovely mum is cooking new potatoes served with salad cream for me!

NIght all

LucindaE · 01/05/2011 09:58

"Wizz" Tea??? SmileNow, that IS a good sign...So glad that your diet is becoming more varied, the excitement of that is hard for the happy majority to comprehend...You are so sensible to be brisk about LO's preferences for baby's sex...
Cocoanuts I hope no more bile runs? About vitaimins, I have a feeling that the affect is quite quick, particularly as I think B6 doesn't hang about in the system, so lets hope it was that that set you back.
TheOnly I hope no more dismal experiences with a jiffy bag and a driving wheel...Shock
Everyone how are things? Did anyone find the jelly and tinned fruit acceptable?

theonlyhb2 · 01/05/2011 10:23

morning! great news about the tea, little wizz, its the most amazing thing in the world when you can first stomach some!

working is obv. bad for my HG as being at home. despite doing quite a bit round the house (lots of fish tank cleaning/organising......how do I inherit these things?!) and feeling a bit rough, I haven't been sick apart from morning bile runs. But I am so shattered from doing not much, couldnt have coped without my Mum on Friday helping me with everything, feel out of breath all the time.....no wonder I start puking at work, I might not have to move much but all that brain activity (don't laugh!) and having to concentrate makes me much more tired than pottering round the house at my own speed.

Today I think I am going to brave town for a bit, I need a swimming costume and some maxi dresses and I may be brave and go to Primark (it scares me, I don't go)

Hope everyone else is OK and the lack of posting means you are all out enjoying the nice weekend xx

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 01/05/2011 10:32

lucinda I hope you are right regarding the vitamins. I forgot yesterdays again so fully expect a bad day tomorrow, but have had two good days again with no cyclizine :)

wizz WOOOOO for the tea!! I'm still on watery hot choc. Can't wait for the tea and tost post-labour Grin

hb We don't have a primark in our town, wish we did though a few cheap maxi dresses is just what I need! Even better if they had online shopping!

Hope everyone else is ok :)

LucindaE · 01/05/2011 12:19

Wizz I am sure you look good anyway, whatever you say - pregnant woman always have 'that look' but they can't see it themselves. Once the Hyperemesis has been beaten back, I bet you all start to bloom in earnest. I did a while after it went away, and how about that bump picutre of nitNats* from last time? I have been eloquent about how I looked earlier, tangled hair, uncleaned teeth, deathly complexion, shadlowed eyes, strange rashes and staggering walk...
HbCocoanuts I hope you go for the maxi dresses for the summer - I think they flatter the pregnant shape more than anything. HB I always admire anyone who manages to WORK through Hyperemesis - women deserve a medal just for LIVING through it...
Everyone I second that about hoping you are enjoying the break outside rather than suffering inside. Fluffy Has baby been enjoying it?

ElliottsMummy · 01/05/2011 12:24

Hi all, hope everyone is having an ok weekend,

Lucinda I am still doing good thankyou, although am now finding I have to feed my stomach something every 1 1/2 - 2 hours else it gets angry with me!!

wizz I'm v. Jealous of the tea - I could probably stomach a cup now but tried some of OHs and it just didnt taste right! :(

coconuts hope the vitamins are the issue - if u have missed another u should be able to judge now if it happens again.

Have managed to eat a small amount of dinner with my family every evening this week which I couldn't face before so this is a major accomplishment for me! Although yesterday I pushed it a bit - went for a drive round the coast to Dawlish where my parents and friends are staying in their caravans. Had a good day with lots of fresh air and (as I was feeling good) lots of BBQ food. Forgot that I had a 30-40 minute drive back home and the lot reappeared about 10pm! :( not feeling as bad as I thought today though so that's good. Another BBQ planned for tonight but at my house this time so no driving this time!! Will take it easy!

Back to work planned for 9th and 20 wk scan on 11th so hoping I am nearly out of the woods now - defintly feeling about a million times better!!

Hope everyone has a ok rest of the bank holiday weekend xx

fluffywhitekittens · 01/05/2011 14:21

Hello everyone, Big Up to the Cambridgeshire massive, and we now have our very own Duke and Duchess :)
Wizz, I really couldn't stand tea at all which was a nightmare as I do love a nice cuppa, I did find after the 20 week mark I could stomach black coffee with a bit of sugar. I couldn't face the post labour tea and toast, had to wait till the next day before I braved a cup of tea again!
Coconuts hopefully you're feeling a bit better, don't know about the vitamins as I could never manage to take anything.
TheOnly The Rosie was fantastic with dd when she was prem but it can get very busy - there was a bit of a rush on in October when I had ds and there were often people turned away :(
Mind you I was having a few panics about being sent away as I had a quick labour with dd ( and as it turned out with ds) but when we got there the delivery rooms were practically empty and midwives were twiddling their thumbs!
So don't worry though because a) you'll probably not have any problems and b) I have a friend who worked for the health service and actually rated Hinchingbrooke over Cambridge and chose to have her 2 there.
Littlewizz - I would have loved to do that with dd but she is a major drama queen bless her - obviously she loves him to bits although she did say she wanted it to go back to how it was before we had him, she knows how to twist the knife :( So we had a lovely day on Friday and went shopping and left ds with Granny - it was extra good because it was nice and quiet as everyone was watching the wedding.
Lucinda baby has been having fun watching his sister and her friends having fun - we even got the paddling pool out the other day although he just watched.
ElliottsMummy little and often is the way to go with food, don't rush madly back into work - try and take it as easy as possible if you can as you may feel better but that dreaded hg can sneak up on you again if you try and do to much.
Hope everyone's enjoying the long weekends xx

pipoca · 01/05/2011 16:48
