As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

only taking our mind away from your OH lunchbox, don't worry amazingly baby will find it's way out! Friends swore by perineal massage, didn't do much for me but hindsight that's prob due to his genetic disorder thingy. DH certainly enjoyed helping out with this, that and breaking my waters were prob his pregnancy highlights!

Grumblin Coconuts & other hayfever sufferers I've not had hayfever before but saw pharmacist today who thought symptoms (scratchy throat, gunky streaming eyes, nose dripping tap!) sound like allergy. She said piriton safe but need a prescription. Mentioned
cyclizine and she got bit technical talking about formulated slightly diff due to H Block receptors or something like that! Health care workers amongst us might understand or I could have just got bit confused!!?

LucindaE · 20/04/2011 20:22

Oh dear, if La and everyone have Hay fever as well as Hypermesis, that is not fair...Grumblin it is all too bad! Sickness as bad as at 18 to20 weeks?!
TheOnly lol my OH's penis didn't get in there, full stop, because the dr forbade it after mmc, though indifferent to dehydration dangers...One of the old school. For sure, those babies don't come out as enjoyably as they went in! Talking of which, Caramel good luck, good luck, good luck! Do you wish to make use of the cyber relaxation room here with cushions and invisible hands to wait on you in the interim...
Cocoanuts Am with Grumblin on pasta, 'The horror, the horror...'
The Only Oh, you fastidious thing, I was more given to puking on/ or in:

  1. Floors
  2. In carrier bags
  3. Those old bins in Ealing
  4. Sinks
  5. Bowls snatched from somewhere...
Annoying comments from your work colleagues. A Hyperemesis Awareness lecture deserved! Pearl Lavender I loved, I had a satchet to drown out scent of OH and also, any beer he might have been drinking... NitNat I hope dinner stayed down this evening? Hope Whizz and everyone else is doing OK... LucindaE xx

theOnly Oh dear, forgot to sympathise about the horrible undigested food reappearing, after sitting heavy on the stomach for a couple of hours. Poor you. That is foul.

no puke for me at 5pm yesterday :) i felt SO rough though, took anti-sickness and despite trying to read my book, I fell asleep at 7pm, only waking when I smelt food next to me (pizza, beans & scrambled eggs on toast with mini sausages and Haagen Daaz ice cream) then falling right back asleep. another tablet at 11pm and slept through to 7am this morning, no heart burn, nothing :)

(i wont mention I feel a little spaced out at work today and things may start to swim soon but I think the Belgian bun in my drawer will save me)

the more anti-sickness tablets I take = the less I care what I eat and therefore eat anything that is there. I do have to avoid bread and pasta though as they make my constipation worse and give me terrible heartburn. I also think, after spending 4 months living on ham & cheese on toast, I can never eat toast again.

la i am liking yr suggestion, I shall get OH onto the massaging ;)

I am hoping I survive today.....i am off for a posh afternoon tea for charity (they may have cakes shaped like shoes! this is very exciting, my 2 favorite things) and getting out of work early with the "I am off to the Dr" excuse :)

hugs for alll xx

I'm back! AND free of HG AND have a gorgeous little girl in my arms.

Grumblin you win the prize for having amazing mind powers as she was born at 14:17 yesterday, 10 mins after you posted asking about my birth canal Smile.

The birth was amazing, exactly as I ordered on my birth plan, which I didn't think was actually possible...water birth, delivered 4hrs after I got to hospital and was home 7hrs later. Am still grinning and wondering how I got so lucky to have that experience and a little girl who's perfect as well.

Word of warning though...that injection you can have to speed up the placenta delivery made me sick for an hour or two. Lucky I had some Zofran to hand Grin.

Am scoffing vast amounts of food for you all and enjoyed not sticking to the HG regime this morning...even wildly didn't have my chilled diluted cloudy apple for breakfast. What a celebration!

So come on everyone, you can do this! I'll be right here cheering you on...and back to post more as soon as my one-handed typing improves! xxx

caramellokoalalover · 21/04/2011 22:00

Meant to say too a huge, huge thank you to everyone for thinking of me the past couple of days, and for all the support throughout the hell that is HG. With special mention to Lucinda for always being here and being an amazing head cheerleader!

LucindaE · 22/04/2011 10:34

Caramel Wonderful, Smile Smile Smile! Cyber hug of congratulations, can be a real one now. Congratulations, cyber feast for you, and as much Wine Wine as can be taken safely now you know again how worthwhile it is!
You must tell us all about what she is to be called, how the birth went, and everything...It has been such a pleasure to get to know someone as nice and suportive to others as you are. and I do hope like Fluffy you can endure coming back on to encourage all. Knowing you, for sure you will, however busy with new baby...
TheOny Sorry you felt bad earlier, but glad that peculiar feast did the trick. Brave of you to risk cooked cheese...
I'm sure everyone's delighted by Caramel's final release from the Hyperemesis prison.' No time off for good behaviour, though, but 'This too must pass'...

Hello All!
I can't believe I haven't posted on here since March. So much has happened! Congratulations Caramel - wonderful news!

Just wanted to stick my head round the door to say 'hi' and that I've been thinking of you all. I was lucky enough to have my HG trail off from about 15 weeks (how any of you cope for longer than that is beyond my comprehension - you deserve medals one and all). The only symptoms left behind are terrible trapped wind in my stomach and heartburn and I will take them over HG with pleasure.

I really hope you all start feeling better soon.
Rozee xx

nitnatnaboo · 22/04/2011 19:02

Whahay! Caramel! Congratulations on your little girl and your amazing birth. So glad you are now vom free and scoffing everything in sight. Smile Smile Smile. Tell us EVERYTHING! So so glad one of us has escaped permenantly!

nitnatnaboo · 22/04/2011 19:11

Apparently Daily Fail had a 2 page spread on HG yesterday according to Mum.

Managed to find an online version here . Just look at some of the less than sympathetic comments from people who don't know what they are talking about. Angry

Random bile run for me this morning but at least no vomming of tea since last weekend!

Still no broadband and off on hols on Sunday for a week so signing off for time being.
xxx to all

CakeForBreakfast · 22/04/2011 19:12

Oh Caramel, well done you!!

I'm so glad it went well, and I'm wishing your beautiful baby girl is one of those sleepy, laid back babies!!

theonlyhb2 · 22/04/2011 19:27

YAY CARAMEL!!! Please tell us full gory birth details so first timers like me can be prepared!

nitnat, a friend of mine sent that to me, why did they keep referring to it as morning sickness and she termonated because of nausea - made me mad!!!! and sort of undermined the whole article, i thought.

i should jus take anti sickness tabelts everyday, i have felt great the past few days. mind you i have done sod all today so maybe that is why!

littlewizz · 22/04/2011 19:39

Caramel Huge congratualtions to you and so glad you got the birth you wanted. Need names and weights now. I hope you enjoy your easter weekend and eat all the bank holiday weekend food you can get your hands on. Get hubby out buying all the food youv'e been dreaming off the last 9 Months.... actually feeling quite tearful and happy for you!! Thank you for reminding us what what this is all about!

All ok here the heat 27 degrees here in oxford which has made my nausea creep up, but have hit the 12 week mark and have my 12 week scan on tuesday which is a relief after my bleeds. Going to tell DS1 after my scan. Though old flappy ears has probably worked it out all ready!!

just had to nip to sink for quick heave!

So struggling to drink, have managed the odd ice lolly and lemonade. With this heat I would love to just guzzle a whole pint of something cold and fresh!

Its my birthday tomorrow the grand old age of twenty nine, I hope I have a good HG day as I would love to eat something other than new potatoes, salad cream and gerkins for my dinner.. (this weeks preferred taste!)
Going to see HOP tomorrow morning at the cinema with DS1, OH and my Best Friend hoping to fancy a bit of popcorn, then garden and BBQ for family and Friends and I can watch on with my gerkins!

Sunday consists of Lunch at my aunties who has a tendancy to overcook and dry out food so hoping that the extra turkey she got given at christmas by the butcher after no one could collect cause of the snow (then frozen!) doesnt smell to bad - though she has assured me she has gerkins, salad cream and lemonade!!

Monday lunch at local pub with our group of friends and all the kids totalling 9 now.... why do bank holiday weekends have to involve so much food. So busy weekend and so is next weekend. Being busy does help at least make the days go a bit quicker and take mind off feeling shite and all the family entertain DS1 so at least he is having a few days break from cbeebies and the computer.

Did Just wonder what doseage Cyclizine people were taking I'm on 50g 3x a day, though feel 4 would be nicer, I'm struggling with the evening vom/retching.

Congratualtions again caramel Grin

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 23/04/2011 16:25

Wizz, am on same as you 50mg x 3. but mostly manage on one or two now. One day this week I am thinking about being brave and going without... Eeek!

The hot weather is doing me no favours. Strong smells, sweaty people, hay fever, breathless all making me feel shite.

Cooking a roast for the family tomorrow, that'll be lovely Hmm boiling hot day spent over the cooker. It is my first wedding anniversary also tomorrow :)

LucindaE · 23/04/2011 17:52

Congrats again, Caramellul. Tell us her name and weight...Was it a water birth after all?
Cocoanuts Of course you can do it! You will be coming back to post and say 'it is worth every minute' not so far in the future... First wedding anniversary, that is so sweet. Have as good a one as you can!
Wizz Brave girl to come back after a puke in the sink, and all luck for the scan on Tuesday, and happy birthday. [virtual cake sent, but it won't be much use for you, sadly]. I wish I was twenty-nine again, believe me...
TheOnly where do you find the energy?
Cake Elliott's Mum how are you?
Luce how are things now?
Rozzee lovely to hear from you, and so happy that horrible Hyperemesis has slunk off defeated in your case...
LA NitNat Grumblin Who is next after Caramel?
I didn't read that article, it would have made me too 'good and mad'.
Everyone I have rudely overlooked, how are you, I have to rush and pack now for an unexpected trip down to Bucks and my mother's and she thinks if I lay my hands on her pc I will blow it up and after my recent luck with mine, it isn't to be wondered at, but I will be back on Friday to catch up. Meanwhile, look after yourselves everyone, and I am sending you cyber hugs if acceptable. Not nice to suffer in such weather - well, true, someone flushed the drains in heaven earlier...

Has anyone got any experience of taking Avomine (Promethazine) tablets for 'morning' sickness?
Did they work for you?
I've been very sick since week 5, now 14, and am at my wits end. I've recently started taking Avomine. I feel much better in myself but am still throwing up and now have a horrible lump in my throat that feels like food is getting stuck.

However I've been reading the latest research on Diclectin which is available in Canada and had excellent results. See 'Treatments Available' on www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

Has anyone any experience of attempting to request Diclectin from their GP?
Is there another drug that most people have success with and can recommend to me?

ElliottsMummy · 24/04/2011 20:57

AgBag hi, welcome to our little group, sorry u need to join us :( I have been taking Avomine since week 8 (now 18) and it about halved the sickness when I first started taking it but it didn't stop me throwing up completely. I take 1 avomine at night (tried 2 for a while but it didnt seem to make much difference) and then take another medication (Buccastem) twice in the day. The combination seems to work and the Avomine also helps me sleep. I do get the lump in my throat u mentioned but I just assumed that was to do with the illness not the Avomine!! Interesting to know!! I suggest u see your Gp again and ask about increasing the dose or trying something new. Have no experience of Diclectin sorry.

Lucinda I am pretty good thanks, managing much more with fluids now and feeling a lot more positive. 18 weeks today so finally getting excited about things, started discussing names and whether we find out the sex of the baby or not?!?! Really can't decide input anyone? :)

marylou242 · 24/04/2011 20:59

coconuts did you try the floridix in the end? I tried it last time but couldn't get it down, it tastes absolutely awful. Then again, with our random likes and dislikes at the moment, maybe others will like it?

caramel congratulations! Hope all is going well. I'm really glad you got the birth you wanted, I think it's the least any of us deserve after going through such rough pregnancies.

motherofpearl and grumblin I'm concerned to hear about cyclizine becoming less effective. grumblin you sound pretty bad still, is there anything left on the list that you could try?

wizz - 50mg 3 x a day is the maximum, I've asked. I'm struggling, like you, in the evenings with empty retching and terrible nausea. I'd love to take a 4th. Not quite so bad in the day, and to be honest I'm just glad I'm not throwing up everything I eat or drink like I did last time. I'm still 24 hours nauseous though, it's like some nightmare car sickness where the journey never ends...

agbag welcome and sorry you've had to come on here. I tried Avomine but didn't have much success as it gave me terrible nightmares. Have you tried cyclizine at all? Apparently odansetron is supposed to be the best but hard to get due to cost.

Regarding boob growth. Please don't be too disappointed if they don't grow. Mine went up 2 sizes last pregnancy and are now covered in stretch marks, it has its disadvantages. I have none on my stomach but boobs look like train tracks.

theonlyhb2 · 24/04/2011 21:03

Hi agbag am taking that, but Phenergan (25mg) they were the only thing that worked on me, and at my worst I was still taking 3 a day and staying in bed so I could keep down water and food (stll being sick a few times a day but felt better on these than the other 3 I tried)......plus side they made me drowsy so I got some much needed sleep too! are you finding they not working for you?

too much sun yesterday = pukey sam. this weekend i have been improving my racing skills on Motorstorm on PS3. I have to say I am pretty damn amazing at it! I should have been cleaning but other than doing washing and potting some plants, have left it to OH :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 24/04/2011 21:06

No never tried the florodix. Was bit pricey and didn't want to risk buying it and not being able to stomach the flavour. So bought some multivits from Sainsburys. Forgot to look at the size of them before I bought them and they are huge feckers and a bit of a struggle. Grr.
