40+10 today with 1st baby induction booked for saturday. i have tried anything and everything to kick start the labour including sex, eating loads of pineapple, cleaning, rushing round and even boxing and zumba on the x box kinnect Smile ive had two sweeps. midwife said im 1cm dilated and fully effaced, have been for 2 weeks now and she surprised that i have gone into labour. is there anything more i can do before the induction as i would prefer to avoid it. any advice would be appreciated.

walk, bounce, walk, bounce etc etc etc etc Smile

doblet · 13/01/2011 12:39

Poor you. What about curry? Sounds like you are doing everything you can though. How about a stern word with baby? Never too early to start with the bribery!

CluckyKate · 13/01/2011 12:47

Slow down - all this rushing around isn't good for your anxiety levels. Have you tried reflexology???....is a more natural and relaxing way to stimulate your uterus.

Have you also considered requesting daily monitoring rather than an induction? They can't force you to be induced but can monitor you to ensure the baby is OK.

Fingers crossed things get going soon for you. In the meantime make sure you take some time out to relax and de-stress in-between all the rushing around.

Good luck!!!

cluckykate i have heard that sometimes rushing around can the hamper the onset of labour and to be fair my stress levels have been a lot higher, couldn't finish work till christmas eve [40 hours a week] due to it being my own business [small hair salon] and couldn't afford a replacement for myself got 1 full timer and 1 part timer only. had to back to work yesterday to do hair cut for my regular customer as she wont let anyone else touch her hair. dp recently start his own business so cant take any wages yet. had to take cat to the vets yesterday,he nearly died last year for serious infection but its luckily its not that bad this time. sorry for rambling on.
ive had reflexology in the past but i didn't know that you could have that in pregnancy. dp wouldn't be too happy if i requested daily monitoring,he wants baby out now and is concerned about the risks to baby,we had a mc late dec 09. im going to try and relax over the next couple days. thanks for you advice didn't realise till i wrote all this how stressful my life is.

squat down if you can and rock gently back and forth like a tribeswoman. Good luck!

Coppernoddle · 13/01/2011 13:25

Acupunture! My friends swears by it! Got her going that day!

iskra · 13/01/2011 13:30

have you tried acupuncture?

I went to 40+14 with DD (first baby). Some babies just need to cook longer!

beebee1978 · 13/01/2011 14:10

thanks thatlldopig i will try that Smile
i have never tried acupuncture coppernoodle and iskra but i think ive left it too long to try it now. i don't no if it make a difference but my brothers were 19 and 20 days late before they induced my mom, they are in 40s now and i think back then they used to leave women a lot longer. i was four days late as my mom was older by then so they induced her sooner.

It may work after the first time, my friends only took one and went into labour that date! Her due date, what is the likelihood of that happening! Try it once and you've not lost heaps of money! It's worth a try than being induced!

greenbeanie · 13/01/2011 19:18

hope all goes well for you. My first 2dc were born at 39 and 40wks so it was a shock when I went overdue with dc3. I tried everything including 6 acupuncture induction treatments and nothing worked. I also was dreading being induced. Anyway, I just wanted to say I was induced in the end and it was fine, labour was 1hr 40mins with no problems. So if it comes to that I hope it all goes well for you.

berrycravings · 13/01/2011 21:11

I'm 40+9 so I know how you feel. I have tried lots of things, rasberry leaf tea, lots of long walks, bouncing on ball, long relaxing baths, reflexology, scrubbing the kitchen floor, sweep etc but nothing...

I finally lots my plug this morning, but still nothing, DH and I have taken to walking 2/3 times a day to see if that'll help. He's also never been so keen to make me cups of tea!

Good luck and I hope something works for you in the end, i'm going to continue trying to encourage him along, but also a boy so very stubborn (I even tried buying him a present, I'm that crazy now!!)

MissTFied · 14/01/2011 00:23

Sex? Lots of? (Only if you really don't want to be induced...)

MissTFied · 14/01/2011 00:24

Sorry beebee - I see you've tried that!

Have you, berrycravings?

dikkertjedap · 14/01/2011 01:55

Try to relax and prepare for your baby (pack hospital bag, don't forget to include nappies, cotton wool, etc for baby and stuff to keep yourself occupied, induction is often not so quick). Induction is not the end of the world, soon you will see your baby. You can ask for an epidural and contractions might be stronger and more painful, you can ask for epidural upfront if you want or mobile epidural if your hospital does it. What is most important is that you and baby are alright. Good luck, you are almost there!

beebee1978 · 14/01/2011 08:35

thank you all for your replies. had a little bit of period pain last night and got all excited but it amounted to nothing. starting to think i imagined it because im so eager. Smile i had a hot curry last night as last resort even tho i hate them.
i dont know if ive lost my plug berrycravings as after both sweeps i had some discharge but nothing big. ive also tried most of them apart from the raspberry leaf tea and reflexology. hope all goes well for you too.
yes misstfield have tried loads of sex Grin sadly that didn't work either.
thanks dikkertjedap bags are all packed and treble checked to make sure i have not forgotten anything.i most likely check them again later. Smile i was hoping on just gas and air but ive heard that an induction is usually more painful so i not ruling the other means of pain relief out.

Maitri · 14/01/2011 10:13

Now go and UNPACK your hospital bag! A friend suggested I do the same when I was expecting DD - the idea is that the baby will appear when you're least prepared. You could also send DH a long way away for the day, let down the car tyres, run your mobile phone battery down etc etc :)

All the very best of luck - it will happen eventually but I remember feeling the same sense of frustration as you're feeling now.

wilbur · 14/01/2011 10:18

Another vote for accupuncture - ds1 was 40+9 and a final accupunture session got him going, I think. And walking, definitely, I made my sister walk up and down a slope in their garden 3 or 4 times when her dd was overdue and she went into labour later that night Grin. I have heard reflexology can have good results too.

Even if these don't work, everything you're doing should help in labour eventually, so keep trying! Good luck!

beebee1978 · 14/01/2011 12:27

Grin thanks maitri i wish i could dp has been like my siamese twin the last few weeks. ive only got till 7.30am tomorrow then its induction so im definitely running out of time now.
thanks wilbur think i left the acupuncture and reflexology too late to try now.

You still have a few hours! See if someone will fit you in! Failing that, a good romp tonight! Good luck x

MissTFied · 14/01/2011 20:18

How's it going/not going beebee?

I can totally sympathise as I was 40 + 11 with two of mine, and expect to go over again this time (am 36 weeks now).

Some people recommend nipple twiddling, which I might try when I go over. Have you done that yet?

I am willing you to beat the induction deadline!

beebee1978 · 14/01/2011 21:28

will do coppernoddle Grin
its not going im afraid misstfied so induction tomorrow it is,unless it all kicks off tonight. i read something about nipple stimulation but apparently you have to do it for several hours.so i gave that one a miss. Smile all the best and i hope you don't go over again.
