40+10 today with 1st baby induction booked for saturday. i have tried anything and everything to kick start the labour including sex, eating loads of pineapple, cleaning, rushing round and even boxing and zumba on the x box kinnect Smile ive had two sweeps. midwife said im 1cm dilated and fully effaced, have been for 2 weeks now and she surprised that i have gone into labour. is there anything more i can do before the induction as i would prefer to avoid it. any advice would be appreciated.

Beebee you have given me hope, glad you are home with your boy! I am 40+11 today and off to hospital to talk about induction. Might see if they'll let me go until Monday as it is my DS's 2nd birthday tomorrow!

Hi hackneyzoo I know how you feel. I don't know what the protocol is in your area but in mine it was 40+10 and once I was in hospital for the induction i was there was no going back till baby was born.it's because they say baby is more at risk when your so overdue.by the time I gave birth he was 40+12. If they give you prostin pessary they need to monitor the baby for 45min first then you have to lie still for an hour afterwards then they can give you another one 6 hours later. It usually takes 2 to start labour but with me I needed a 3rd but the doctor has to administer it because then your classed as high risk, which I didn't realize. I wish u all the luck in the world and hope everything goes well. Please keep me posted with your progress and you could always celebrate ds birthday late just don't tell him:)

Thanks bee for sharing your story it has made me feel a lot less nervous. I am going to have the first pressed and some monitoring then I can go home. If nothing happens I come back for another one tomorrow a.m. If all is ok I can labour on mlu but it basically depends if I go into labour or not! Ds is probably going to get a birthday present he will never forget Grin

Gosh that's so much better if you can do that. They never gave us that option. I felt like I'd been there week. My midwife came to visit yesterday, my stitches are infected so I'm on antibiotics so no glass of wine for me just yet and boy do I need one:) I hope all goes well, keep me posted. How great 2 children born on the same day my goodness that will be expensive tho:) xx

Thanks bee. Ended up going into labour before they got round to inducing me and had a baby girl early this morning. She has some fluid on her lungs so is in scbu and is doing well.
