Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

Just got into work and feel like I'm about to fall asleep. Am soo tired it's unreal. I'm going to bed early but find that I wake up in the middle of the night just thinking about things, and it takes me a while to get back to sleep. And then when I do I need a wee! Three and a half weeks to go and hopefully the tiredness will ease. Have any of you got to the 12 week stage yet? If so are you feeling any better? Also interested to know if anyone is showing yet?

GeorginaA · 14/10/2003 11:58

It's weird... I've hit 8 and a half weeks now and the last couple of days I've been feeling a lot less sick and had more energy. Surely this is the point when all that is supposed to officially "start".

I'm trying to be optimistic and tell myself that I got it all out of the way early, but I'm sure it's just a blip and will come back with a vengeance soon

Egypt · 14/10/2003 20:47

Snips, i am absolutely shattered too. Can't shake it off. going to bed by 8-9pm and waking up at 5 ish for a wee and cant sleep again. by lunchtime i am so tired, its horrid. its the sort of tired where your body feels totally yuk as well. 3 wks to go to 12 week stage. hoping it stops then. georgina, lets hope you're about to feel better!

Linnet · 14/10/2003 23:05

I'll be 12 weeks on Sunday and I'm not showing yet.
My tiredness hasn't been any different really, I'm usually a very tired person anyway so I haven't noticed any real difference. I have been waking more in the night but that's because we have a family member staying with us at the moment and I go to bed before Dh and our lodger and usually wake when I hear someone moving around, going to bed or bathroom etc. Hopefully our lodger should be moving out again very soon and things will be a lot more peaceful.

Azure · 15/10/2003 11:12

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and have a little bump - clothes are feeling tighter and I'm hoping people just think I'm having a "fat day". My tiredness isn't as bad as it was a month ago and I'm feeling less queasy. Still snacking at regular intervals and taking vitamin tablets, which I think helps. Less than 2 weeks until my scan - please don't let it be twins!

OP posts:
Snips · 15/10/2003 11:49

Azure

Do you have a history of twins in the family? My fil's brothers are twins, but I'm not really sure how twins run in a family..aren't they supposed to skip a generation or two?

GeorginaA · 15/10/2003 13:11

I think it's non-identical twins that run in the family (as it's genetic that a woman releases two eggs occasionally in a cycle) - the identical kind (where the embryo splits) is "just" chance.

Non-identical twins run in our family and we're well overdue for some (my grandmother on my dad's side miscarried twins and my great aunt (I think - someone on my mum's side anyway) had twins and they were the most recent.

gulp

Linnet · 16/10/2003 23:29

Ok, quick question, when do your boobs stop hurting? I thought they'd have settled by now but they are still very tender, can't remember last time as it was so long ago. Can anyone enlighten me?

Azure · 17/10/2003 09:34

No history of twins in either family, thank goodness. Don't get me wrong, twins are lovely - but I can't imagine how people cope, especially with a toddler.

GeorginaA · 17/10/2003 10:48

Yes, I think I would have been quite happy with twins the first time around (before I knew how much extra work I'd be letting myself in for ) - however, I do know of a family who had twins as their "second" and it did put a lot of strain on the family, particularly with the relationship with the older one. I think I would be very very frightened if I found out I was carrying twins, although we would, of course, cope.

I spoke too soon by the way - feeling absolutely knackered today. Have given up already and put Cbeebies on (terrible mummy). Thank goodness this afternoon is a nursery day and ds will get to do something constructive there.

Sounds bad, but I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling tired and nauseous! I'm wishing the weeks away, but having looked at an old diary I was still feeling sick at 16 weeks!! Not as often though and it soon disappeared after that! I really hope it goes quicker this time as I feel worse with this one.

I'm about 8/9 weeks and I don't know if I still have a bit of a flabby stomach from last time but I think I'm showing a little already, mind you it could just be a bloated stomach because I'm eating so much at the minute to try and stop the sickness!! My stomach actually feels as though it's really high up almost under my ribs - I know you get that later on in pregnancy but this early?! I can't wait for a scan to check that everythings okay. Been to the Drs twice and am waiting for a midwife to contact me - seems very slow compared to where I used to live?! But I was spotting a lot more then - so maybe it was a little more urgent.

Found out they don't do the nuchal scan here and will have to pay £200 for scan and blood tests at the local hospital - I think that's very expensive, plus I don't want the blood tests, so I'll have to find out where else I can get it done, although running out of time!

Linnet - I'm A neg (dh is o pos?) and was told I may need anti-D injection by Dr when I was spotting badly with my first dd, got sent to hospital but their policy was not to give it at the no. of weeks I was - all turned out okay though and I didn't need one thankfully.

Can't believe how grumpy I am this time round! Don't even want to talk to dh sometimes, just feel like curling up on sofa and sleeping until 40 weeks! Getting a bit touchy with dd (17 mths) when I'm feeling really tired - she keeps crawling all over me and slamming her toys into my stomach when I'm having a lie down on the sofa! I feel quite guilty then because she doesn't realise. All I keep thinking is how am I going to manage with two??!!

Bozza · 18/10/2003 14:46

Talie looks like your finger is still slipping. I'm 10 weeks and like you am beginning to show a bit of a stomach. But thats from all the extra eating to fend of the sick feelings. If I press low down I can feel a hard bit which I think is my womb but thats through the layers of flab on top. But the tiredness is the worst thing. Luckily for me DS has gone to stay at his grandparents, I've bought an Asda meal deal curry for tonight and we're getting Sunday lunch when we go pick DS up so lots of rest. But will probably still feel same after he's been back two hours.

Had standard info pack through from hospital but no word from midwife which would make it feel more official....

libb · 18/10/2003 15:08

Hi, I'm new to the site and am really pleased to find some friendly and yet matter of fact message boards. I am 11 weeks today and my partner are still trying to wrap our heads round the idea - however it is all great stuff and we are really pleased! I have to confess that I had a forwarning because of all the weird dreams I kept having in the first 6 weeks after conception, they stopped the day it became official. Very strange. It would nice to know if other mums to be have also experienced this?

I apologise in advance to those who have suffered but so far it has been far easier than expected (no sickness, just the achy boobs and migraines) but the tiredness has really kicked in in the last week or two. Speaking of migraines, is this a common thing? this is my first time and am not sure what to expect!

Anyway, I wish everyone all the best and hope to hear other experiences very soon.

Much love,

Libb xxx

Bozza · 18/10/2003 15:17

Congratulations Libb. It does feel really weird being pregnant first time. Sorry that I've no experience of either migraines in pregnancy or weird dreams in the early days - maybe later when sleep is disturbed and you're awaiting the birth. What are you doing about the migraines? Have you some safe medication you can take or is it simply a case of holing up in a dark room?

You might get more replies over the next few days - not sure a lot of people are around at the moment. As you can see from my previous post DS has gone to grandparents and DH at golf so lazy afternoon for me.

Egypt · 18/10/2003 16:20

hi libb
welcome! i am 10 weeks monday and this is my first preg too. am feeling incredibly tired too - absolutely exhausted and eating tonnes as hungry all the time. i'm hoping that shall feel better this week with a week off work, and fingers crossed will all have passed by time i go back...........wishful thinking. like you i had really vivid dreams in first few weeks of preg, but that was around and after the time i found out. had lots of 'sexual' dreams too!!!! AND they resulted in the big O whilst still asleep! (sorry - dont even know you yet!) but read somewhere that thats the blood rushing to uterus! it can rush all it likes!
bozza, i too am getting a large waist and i reckon its due to the piles of food as well!!

GeorginaA · 18/10/2003 17:41

Welcome libb! Yes, I have very vivid dreams too (hoping they last, because they're very entertaining ) I always remember my dreams anyway, so having them with surround sound during pregnancy is an extra bonus!

With my first son, I had a dream a couple of days before conception that involved someone tying a thin blue ribbon around my left thigh, and after talking to a few people we interpretted that as getting pregnant very soon and having a boy (which was right!) - at that stage we'd been trying for about 5 months.

This time around, no premonition type dreams though, so I have no idea what sex this baby is, which is rather disappointing Will have to do what everyone else does and wait for the scan I suppose

libb · 18/10/2003 18:14

Its nice to get such a response so soon! It is interesting to hear about everyones dreams, mine weren't half as interesting though!

The migraines only seem to come over a few days, usually when I am meant to be due so I'm not too worried - I guess the body has a lot to deal with. I usually ride them out, the only time I resorted to drugs was at a friend's wedding.

At what point to appointments and the like start happening? I went to the doctors on Wednesday and only filled in a couple of forms . . .

Linnet · 18/10/2003 21:38

Congratulations Libb and welcome to the thread. What is your due date?
I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and due on May 2nd. I get my scan next Thursday and I'm excited but worried at the same time, lol

I suffered quite a few migraines when I was pregnant the first time, they usually happened when I was really tired after work. I usually took some paracetamel and then went and lay down in the dark for a while and they went away. I haven't suffered this time not so far anyway.
Incidentally when I was asked at the hospital on my booking date, with my first, about any headaches I told the midwife I'd had a couple of migraines and she said, have you ever been diagnosed as suffering from Migraine, I said no and she asked how I knew that was what they were then and not just normal headaches? I told her that my usual headaches did not include feeling nauseaus (sp?) and flashing lights which I'd been told were signs of migraine, I don't think she believed me though.

Linnet · 18/10/2003 21:39

Oops and I meant to add that I haven't suffered any weird dreams yet.
