Before I get killed, I'm not suggesting it is only circumsion, that's just the title of this thread.

I'm due in less than 4 weeks and I'm having a boy. I'm definitely going to circumcise him. It's part of my culture and my partner's culture so it's going to be done. I just feel sad that it's seen as such a bad thing, where there are some benefits to it.

Anyone circumsised/circumsizing their sons?

sum04 was your baby given pain relief for the operation and recovery?

ScarlettWalking · 29/12/2010 23:15

"I personally think it is cleaner and I would not want my son to have foreskin, when his own father doesn't have it."

What level of reasoning is this exactly. Do you realise how ridiculous that sounds? DH has his teeth capped and his tonsils out shall I book DD into theatre now?

GColdtimer · 29/12/2010 23:16

So there are people here who allow bits of their babies bodies to be chopped off for no good reason without pain relief Shock. I am actually sickened.

sum04 · 29/12/2010 23:16

I didnt go into the room, but my partner went in to hold him and he was given some medicine to numb the pain, he was awake for the whold thing, took all of 2 mins and he had a quick cry and then was fine.
We then just bathed him in antiseptic for a week and i then took him to our doctors to be checked that all was healed and fine.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:17

why on earth should your husband's penis have any bearing on what your son's penis should look like. are they expected to compare when your son reaches adulthood?? what a ridiculous thing to say.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:18

why didn't you go into the room sum04?

sum04 · 29/12/2010 23:19

it doesn't sound at all ridiculous to me... These are my views, that no one has to agree with, but at the end of the day it is down to me what i decide is best and right for my son.

GColdtimer · 29/12/2010 23:19

Completely agree scarlett. Ridiculous reasoning.

ScarlettWalking · 29/12/2010 23:19

why didn't you go into the room?

sum04 · 29/12/2010 23:20

It is a normal thing for all the men in my family and my partners family to be circumcised. My doctor never judged me when i took my son to be checked, neither did any of my friends or family.

HouseOfBambooootiful · 29/12/2010 23:20

Is it actually legal to hold children down and chop bits off them without anaesthetic - really??

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:21

but why would it be best that his penis looks liek his dad's what benefit could your son gain from that?

pooka · 29/12/2010 23:21

My dh is bald. So I'll be shaving ds1 and ds2. Of course if dh had curly red hair I'd be having their hair permed and dyed.

He has an olive complexion but ds2 is fair. Best get out the sunbeds.

He's also a bit overweight so I say "no" to healthy food.

If your dh had lost a finger in an industrial accident would you want your ds to have one less so he could look like daddy?

sum04 · 29/12/2010 23:21

Im not very good with blood and pain, so i would of been a fat lot of good in there.
I can't even cope with my daughter having a nose bleed.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:22

doctors aren't supposed to hand out judgement which is why you wont have noticed it. doctors are there to diagnose and prescribe when necessary. so the fact that he didn't openly judge means nothing.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:22

so you admit you knew your son would be in pain?

sum04 · 29/12/2010 23:22

Like i said, it is more normal then it is to not be circumcised in our families. So why out of all the boys and men in our families would we choose for our son to have foreskin.

GColdtimer · 29/12/2010 23:22

I don's supposu your babyboy was too good with blood and pain either Hmm

Of course he was going to be in pain, for all of a minute or 2. The same as if you took your baby to have her ears pierced.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:24

because to choose for him not to have foreskin is to willingly inflict pain on your child. why anyone would do that just to be the same as everyone else is beyond me.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:24

i wouldn't take my baby to have it's ears pierced Hmm what sort of a sadist do you think i am???

sum04 · 29/12/2010 23:26

It is alot more common for male circumcision, then it is for female.
It is actually illegal to carry out female circumcision, but it is not for male.
So why is that if it really is such a barbaric thing to do to your son.

HouseOfBambooootiful · 29/12/2010 23:26

Why does it have to be without anaesthetic?

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 29/12/2010 23:27

i jsut don't get it. i spend my time protecting my dcs, if tehy fall i rush out and try and soothe the pain if tehy have fever i give them pain relief. it is a parent's natural instinct to want to prevent your child suffering yet here are mothers saying they actively sought out this pain in the name of fashion.
