Hi ladies, bit of a lurker on here. Glad to hear its all going well for most... I had my 20 week scan yesterday at 22+6, all is well in there. So excited as we found out we're having a little girl after family convinced us it was certain to be a boy!!! The Sonographer was really lovely, she even did a quick 3D scan for us and got free print outs Grin

Other than that, all is good but a little on the small side... has anyone else been told to up their intake of food? Hmm I have put on about 4 KG but had a low BMI to start off with. I am quite tall and gangly but eat like a horse.

bemybebe · 12/05/2011 12:54

Hello Kpotts. My dd is 27th Sept by dates, but 23rd Sept by u/s, so we are close neighbours on this bus. [girn]

Hi jammy I am 169cm and 69kg. Put only 2 kg (and even less, depends when in the day I weigh myself)... I do not like to eat a lot, it makes me feel very uncomfortable, but I am not dieting by any means. Crave milk ALL the time, I did not drink it by mugs since about 13 yo. Smile Regarding being on the 'small side' are you sure it is not just a late implanter?

ssmile · 12/05/2011 12:57

Hi - oh how I wish I'd been told to uptake my food intake :o Sorry not being flippant I do hope you and your baby are doing ok. I never weighed myself with my first pregnancy as we didnt have any scales I kinda wish I'd done that with this one as Ive put on a 16lbs so far of errr. I just been swiming so I hope that will help as trying to go once a week.

bemybebe · 12/05/2011 15:27

smile I honestly do not think you should worry unless your MW worries. Just enjoy yourself Grin

Dualta · 12/05/2011 21:06

Hi folks - just dropping in to say hello and welcome to new posters! Kpotts we have the same due date! Had the 20 week scan yesterday and we found out we're having a boy - lovely lovely sonographer spent 10 mins trying to get him to pose for the camera he was curled up with his back to us! All is ok so far which is great, OH very pleased to be passing on the family name (only son of an only son and all that man stuff).
Btw being convinced he was a she due to the 10 weeks of morning sickness proved entirely wrong!

MSSD · 16/05/2011 07:33

Hi all

Hope everyones pregnancy is going well. I have just started to feel my little one kick and move around. We have our scan o Friday and am very excited. one day I seem to look 7 months pregnant and the next barely at all. Does anyone else have this. We start NCT clasases in a few weeks and am very excited to meet some new poeple!

Also I know it is early but I need to start researching properly- I need advise on 2 things. Best buggy for th city ( do not have a car and use lots of PT, little storage so as little paraphanalia as poss) and secondly- I would really like a small cot with wheels that can go through standard doors. We are staying in our one bed and i wanted to make a cosy space in the hall but want to be able to wheel the cot into the bedroom if needed.

again any advise would be appreciated
cheers ladies x

recklesspixie · 17/05/2011 10:26

have a scan today at 2pm, hopefully will find out if it's a boy or a girl!!!

Dualta · 17/05/2011 11:55

Good luck Reckless! Keep us posted! V excited for you. Mssd have the same issue as you re: one bed will watch responses with interest x D

CBear6 · 17/05/2011 13:08

Good luck for today Reckless!

We lived in a one bed when DS was born but we just put him in our room so didn't have a cot with wheels. I'm sure Mothercare have one though, I remember one from when my brother was shopping for baby stuff. Try Kiddicare too as they have a good selection. We had a Moses basket to begin with which are more compact but only last a few months.

I'm not much good with buggies but I do love my Maclaren for taking into town, it's light to carry and folds up really slim, and DS looks nice and comfy in it. I think the Techno is from birth but the only issue is that it isn't parent facing, don't know if that's important to you.

recklesspixie · 17/05/2011 17:36

very disappointing, doctor couldn't see clearly enought to decide on the sex and even seemed surprised that I though I could find out today even though I was told at 12 week scan I could find out today (22wks) Confused anyway have another scan in 8 weeks so will definately be able to find out then. Even though baby is healthy and measuring correctly it was a real anti-climax for us Sad DH says if it was a boy the doc would definately have been able to see that it was a boy if he takes after him at all Grin

exciteddotcom · 17/05/2011 18:04

Hey guys, how are you all doing? I've been a bit quiet of late, just enjoying the past few weeks esp. when baby is being active! 24 weeks tomorrow- where have the last few months gone?

Don't worry reckless, we couldn't find out either, I wasn't sure I wanted to know, and we'd decided we wouldn't then DH changed his mind and asked when we got in there! I was quite glad not to know, but I guess it must be annoying when you do want to find out! Is there normally a scan at 30 weeks?

Downhill all the way now girls!

Started thinking about names and buying bits too- super exciting!!

xx

recklesspixie · 17/05/2011 19:06

hi exciteddotcom I'm in Ireland where we seem to be scanned alot more than in Britain, so I'll have plenty more chances to find out but was hoping to know today!

SkiBumMum · 17/05/2011 20:33

Hi all

22.5 wks now. Craving pineapple like a mad woman. Had to get up in the night for some last night!

Lots of kicking, some quite painful. Also a lot of downward pressure which is a bit concerning as so early. My pelvic floor is shot from horrid episiotomy last time so MW ordering a support belt. Nice! It had better rain all August or I will boil!

On the subject of prams - I have a Silver Cross 3D with brand new covers (grey circles) as we had denim that faded so they sent a new set which we never put on! I need a double now so looking to sell if anyone's interested. I had it in London and found it great for buses and tubes etc. Loved it in pram mode, less so as a pushchair at ard 9mths but by then we had bought a little Maclaren like everyone else. I'm near St Albans for collection purposes. PM me if interested.

Off for another mock piña colada!
X

MSSD · 17/05/2011 21:28

woops- must remember pelvic floor exercises. My craving is grapefruit juice/ grapefruits. trying to balance out my cravings for dairy/ make up for those Mc D's from week 8 - 12, which incidently I only normally have once a year!

My friend who is a midwife said they can tell by your afterbirth how your diet has been. That thought is stuck in my mind!

Thanks for feedback on all buggies- One of my collegues has just given me a mama's and papa's so I mat test drive that - meet up with NCT people after birth and make decision

Dualta- good to know someone else is in the same situation as us-

CBear6 glad to hear you managed- some of my friends and family are truely horrified at our situation- 1 bed imagine- they don't realise I'm just a teacher on a good salary- how could I possibly afford to rent any bigger in London- Duh!

thanks for feedback girlies- much appreciated

CBear6 · 17/05/2011 21:50

The key to a one bed is organisation and crafty storage. I had one of those little boxes with the lift up lids (like the Johnsons one they sell with all the shampoos in it?). I used to store my huge boxes of nappies and wipes in the coat cupboard and put a dozen in the little plastic box along with some wipes, bibs, etc so everything was handy and I'd keep the box under the Moses basket stand. His bouncy chair would collapse flat and slide under the cot when not being used, his playmat used to go under there too. We got a half-sized chest of drawers from Ikea for his clothes. It's entirely do-able (although I am glad we've got a house now with No2 on the way!) and we stayed there until he was around 7 months old.

I'm still craving all things garlic but I'm starting to find I can't eat much of anything at the minute, I'm having smaller meals because she's starting to squish my stomach. I'm now worrying about the state of my afterbirth though because most of my cravings have been for shite junk.

ssmile · 18/05/2011 20:28

HI we were living in a 1bed 3rd floor flat when we had DD1. We used a mosses basket for first 6wks and I used to start off with her by the bed and by about 3am I would push her into the hallway after her feed so we got a quiet 3hrs as she was so noisy. Between 6wks - 6mths we used a cribb I got off kiddicare on special as it was a lot smaller than a cot but plenty big enough for baby and she was at the end of the bed. Then we moved to a 2 bed so she went into her cot. We also put an airbed up in the lounge as we struggled with sleep. I used to get 2hrs sleep in the evening 7-9pm when baby was in our bedroom, and DH on 'duty' watching TV in the kitchen!! Then he could have the airbed if we had a bad night with little one. Its hard being in a 1bed but you do get there.....good luck. I am back looking at cribbs again for no 2 as my DD is still not a great sleeper and our hse is not that big. We hoping once baby settled into a routine she should be able to share with her big sis :o fingers crossed!!

ssmile · 18/05/2011 20:29

Oh dear the afterbirth may be rather brown then... from chocolate :o

CBear6 · 18/05/2011 22:15

I'm going to ask to look at mine. After I had DS I had the needle in my leg to bring the placenta away (and had the cheek to say "ow" when the MW jabbed me with it), laid there cooing over my little boy while the MW did her thing and then realised she had it and was putting it in a tray. DS was passed to DH, sat up, asked if I could look at it, DH made a face but I was in geek heaven having it explained to me. Not for the faint hearted but worth a look if you're at all curious. Was weird to think that it had supported my baby for all of those months.

Just me then?

MSSD · 22/05/2011 20:26

well I'll look at my afterbirth- but will not be bring home to freeze for a slap up meal at a later date- Jesus, the thought turns my stomach!

CBear6 · 22/05/2011 22:18

Oh god no! A curious look at it and an experimental prod and that was me, can't figure out why anyone would want to eat it!? I'll just stick to tea and toast thanks.

fabcurls · 30/05/2011 23:41

Just thought I'd say Hi!

26 weeks now and appear to have had a growth expansion over the past week! or that could just have been the holiday food! Been to the States for 10 days which was good. Bit of advice for anyone flying longer distances be prepared for throwing up when you come into land - don't think the baby liked the change in altitude much!

Reality still not sinking in fully that our lives are about to be flipped upside down come September but I'm sure we'll get there by the time baby comes.
Have managed to decide on a pram/buggy system though, luckily options narrowed down significantly when looking at what made sense for our needs. Nothing else thought about...yet!

MSSD · 31/05/2011 09:02

just wondered how everyone is dealing with sleeping. I have had a sore back and have been to see an oestopath - but cannot get comfy during night. It feels like my hip area goes numb. Has anyone else experienced difficulty sleeping- any solutions please!

CBear6 · 31/05/2011 09:08

I get sore hips at night to the point that the left one will sometimes seize up entirely and I end up with shooting pains down my leg. I had a clicky hip when I was born on the left side, never have any trouble/issues with it yet that's always the hip that plays up when I'm pregnant, probably just coincidence though.

I find a pillow or rolled up towel between my knees helps, just thick enough to keep my legs slightly apart, and another pillow or towel under my bump to support it. It makes turning over a bit of a faff because I have to rearrange the pillows but it really does ease it enough for me to fall asleep.

Dualta · 31/05/2011 17:16

Hi MSSD
Definitely sleeping on the side with lots of pillows propping up seems to help! I've had really uncomfortable pain in my right ribs just on the right hand side - has anyone else had this? I was reading about on some of the other threads it apparently its called rib flare - haven't found any solutions though!

Went to visit friends with a three week old baby this week for the first time since the birth, they definitely made it look 'doable'! and the baby was so adorable. We have lots to look forward to!

CBear6 · 31/05/2011 17:27

I was terrified before DS was born, kept asking DH what the hell we were going to do with a baby. When he was very first born we were so crap new at it that we couldn't even dress him properly, the MW had to take over because we were handling him like he was made of butterfly dust. Within a fortnight we were flinging him around the place like we'd been doing it forever, you find little ways and things that work for you.

This one is No2 and I'm now scared that one was the charm and two is too many, what if DS is jealous, what if this baby isn't as easy as he is (he's so laid back, we were lucky in that respect), and a million and one other things.
