Hi, wondering if anybody had any ideas. My neice is 16 and due to be induced next week or 2. Would really like to give her a nice surprise as i know how hard it is to treat yourself once babys born. Was thinking of a new haircut and meal after. Or arrange some beauty treatment?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mani and Pedi...and, errr...bikini wax!

PussinJimmyChoos · 05/10/2010 21:46

Condoms and a sex ed book quite frankly

debbie2003 · 05/10/2010 21:47

Yes good idea. Nice to be pampered before a baby. Not sure about the bikini wax though, might induce labour, lol.

Not really...its common for young mothers to have a second child within a few years of their first one

debbie2003 · 05/10/2010 21:50

nooooo really?

I would have thought the birth bit and responsibility might put them off for a while.

Puss I 100% agree.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/10/2010 21:53

Welcome to MN debbie :)

PussinJimmyChoos · 05/10/2010 21:53
Hmm
debbie2003 · 05/10/2010 21:54

Well she knows all about contraception so in the end its her choice i guess. But i know how hard it is for anyone having a baby, let alone someone so young, so would be nice for her to get a treat before big day don`t u think?

Thankyou Alibabaandthe40nappies

Yes yes, a treat is v nice..I wouldn't have minded one two weeks before DS was born rather than sitting on sofa with swollen ankles and watching re-runs of ER (bored doesn't cover it!)

But... are you sure she knows about contraception...you are posting this in pregnancy y'know Wink

MamaLeMay · 05/10/2010 21:57

The op was asking for nice things for her neice.... If you didn't have anything nice to say then you shouldn't have said it....
My mum had me at 16 and my brother at 17.... She worked so so hard to give us a happy home and not once claimed benefits, which wouldn't matter if she had to, but she's proud of herself that she didn't , and I have to say that she was and is the best mum that anyone could ever wish for and I'm sure did a better job then alot of mums. Please don't judge mums on their age......

MamaLeMay "if you didn't have anything nice to say then you shouldn't have said it.... "

And silence as Mumsnet shuts down.

ICantGetMuchSleep · 05/10/2010 22:01

Yes, I agree, a haircut would be nice or some other kind of beauty treatment.

laughinglil · 05/10/2010 22:03

How rude can you actually get? sorry yes she is young but so what.. legally allowed to have sex therefore have a baby.

I think that treating her is a lovely idea, haircut is always a good one x

debbie2003 · 05/10/2010 22:04

Great, haircut it is then! Thanks

Mama - wasn't meaning it nasty - we have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy...clearly education is required

Purplebuns · 05/10/2010 22:06

A spa day?
She might like a treat after the baby is born as that can be gruelling.
I know I needed new clothes as I was too fat for my pre pregnancy stuff and too small for my maternity stuff?

Well done for thinking of her, as shown here, so many people have a nasty attitude towards young mums and they quite often need a lot of support (like anyone else) but due to judgemental people in particular. Angry

PussinJimmyChoos · 05/10/2010 22:08

Not being judgemental...merely stating facts

Education is clearly required

debbie2003 · 05/10/2010 22:11

Thanks Purplebuns, yes spa day would be wonderful but couldn`t afford it. I know she loves dying her hair and stuff so thought probably a hair cut and colour. Thought perhaps some jimjams for hospital afterwards too or something.

so just because someone is educated means that when they do have children, they will be the greatest mums?? not true at all....... I know of some terrible older, educated mums

JazzieJeff · 05/10/2010 22:13

laughinglil I absolutely agree. I know I'm pregnant and hormonal, but I am utterly gobsmacked by some of the comments left on this post!

OP, what a lovely, kind auntie you are I think what you're planning sounds lovely. I hope your niece is judged by her mothering skills and not her age. That kind of attitude makes me furious!
