Hi, wondering if anybody had any ideas. My neice is 16 and due to be induced next week or 2. Would really like to give her a nice surprise as i know how hard it is to treat yourself once babys born. Was thinking of a new haircut and meal after. Or arrange some beauty treatment?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

debbie2003 I think that is a really nice idea and I hope my aunty is out there somewhere getting ideas on what she can get me (smile) Especially the idea of the IOU a babysitting card.

I really hope that this has not given you a bad impression of MN as its a really great place but unfortunatly there are the NIMBY's and there are the know it alls and those who feel it is needed to enforse there opinions on you so please dont let it put you off.

PS. The highest teenage pregnancy rates in the developed world are in the US not the UK!

Debbie2003, there are lots of other nice areas of Mumsnet. Stick around! You sound lovely.

PussinJimmyChoos, on the other hand, needs to stop being nasty and just chill the heck out.

I agree, haircut would be fab. Maybe put a little post birth pack together for her too, a nice nail polish, face mask, a clear mascara and peachy blusher so she can feel human but not made up for post birth photos.
You are a fab Auntie for thinking of doing something nice for her.

Thought I would check back in.. I am surprised you haven't gone running for the hills Pussin
I hope to conceive another successful pregnancy when I am 21, would this be ok with you Pussin since I am financially stable and married?

I had my first at 19 (which is a bit older obviously) and it has been the best thing to happen ever. Even though it was unplanned. And as for sex education we do a peer support scheme here, were I went into local high schools and delivered sex education to year nines, and I myself got pregnant a year later. Sometimes these things happen!

I am so fed up of hearing such hypocritical nonsense! For a lot people it has really motivated them to do more, such as Getorf and some RL people I know.
And what is wrong with just wanting to be a Mum if that is what she wanted to do?

Also I would like to vouch for Mumsnet, it is fantastic in so many ways, but just like RL there is the odd rotten apple.

I second this Purplebuns (or even third of fourth it). I had my first at 19 in 1997. At the time DH (we had been married 54 weeks when PFB made her appearance so not a shotgun in sight)was earning £9.5k. Per year. We have never had benefits (not for want of trying in the early years Grin) and within 6 months of her birth he had doubled his salary.

13 years, and 2 more dcs later, he has increased his starting salary by 4.4x. He freely admits that if we had not had children so early he would probably not have tried so hard to maximise his earnings.

I think having babies young is not always ideal, but can for some people be the best thing to happen. It can be areal sink or swim situation. We were lucky with the family support we received and it seems that the mum-to-be in this situation will be equally as blessed.

Good luck to her.
