Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Think maybe the parent craft and birthing classes might be the same thing. I moved up here just about 11 years ago too!
I didn't realise scoutston did aquanatal will have to have a look. I know they don't do them at the Playdrome was gonna have a look at the meadowcentre in Dumbarton to see if they had any. Think I'd deffo need to het a new swim suit though, I'd be bursting the seams on mine!

ariadnestar · 06/02/2011 12:33

jenniferR I've been getting my midwife appointments at the western maternity - had a different midwife each time, but they've all been very nice. clarabella18 I'll be going to the parentcraft classes, but the ones at the western - they start on the 17th of March for us.

LabMonkey · 06/02/2011 18:29

I'm just sorting through the many many boxes of baby clothes etc that our lovely friends have loaned us and I have come up with a question for all the non first timers.

Did you take a mix of tiny, newborn and 0-3 month vests/babygro's to the hospital or just newborn stuff? At any point is a MW likely to make a guess at how big my baby will be or is it just a case of take newborn stuff plus one set each of the other sizes? We've been loaned a few tiny baby bits and enough newborn and 0-3 month stuff that it won't be a problem.

Also if anyone would like to give me a definitive list of what you need at the hospital that would be fab (I'm not really being paranoid but my family has a history of premature births so starting to think seriously about being a bit organised and our house is a tip so this gives me an excuse for a blitz before I get even more knackered).

Finally - the clothes are all so cute and small Grin

cowboylover · 06/02/2011 18:51

Loving all the Scots! A strong Celtic contingent of mummies in May Smile

I love all the clothes and cant wait to see my little girl in them!

DH asked me this morning when are we going to ante-natal this morning and I cant believe I have forgot about it and not asked MW yet so I think I had better give her a call.

I have read a list somewhere of what people recommended for the hosptial bag which was good so if I find it again I will add the link over.

LabMonkey · 06/02/2011 19:34

I'm jealous of all the folks living in Scotland (I'm in exile in East Anglia Sad and wish I was back in Ed). DH and I cannot agree on rugby so tempted to get an SRU babygro :)

Bubandbump · 06/02/2011 20:20

Well we haven't bought any clothes yet but DH has checked out whether our surname (quite long) will fit on a 3-6 months England rugby top for the world cup!

clarabella18 · 06/02/2011 20:24

Haha think there must be a mini babyboom up here in Scotland at the moment. Can't turn around without catching sight of a lovely bump! labmonkey with Ds1 I just took a couple of newborn bests and sleepsuits to the hospital with me. If your baba is gonna be smaller than that I wouldn't worry too much he'll be okay for a night. Just make sure your OH knows where to put his hands on the smaller/bigger stuff to bring in the next day if necessary.

trixie123 · 06/02/2011 22:23

Labmonkey you will probably be fine with newborn size clothes unless you have a monster! Your DH/DP can always bring in other things if necessary. As for a definitve list, well, I'll give it a go but I am sure others will add to it:
First, pack a you bag and separate baby bag. there isn't much room and you might not need the baby one for a day or so depending on your labour.
You Bag: Toiletries, nightdresses, cheap cotton big comfy pants (the disposable ones are awful and tiny), lots of maternity pads, any snacks and drinks you want, lip balm, drinking straws(if you are reclined being monitored they really help), books, ipod etc, clothes for going home in, phone charger, camera.
Baby bag: Nappies, 2-3 vests and sleepsuits, hat, blanket, formula (pre-made up little cartons)and bottles in case you can't establish BF (it happens), cotton wool for nappy changes - the big flat pads are best and ASDA are by far the cheapest.

I am sure there are lots of other things but I'll let others tell me what I forgot.

JenniferR · 07/02/2011 09:23

Hello!

ariadnestar- think we might be at the same class! Mine start at the Western on the 17th too. Small world :)

There a quite a few aquanatal classes at the Scotstoun leisure centre:
www.glasgowlife.org.uk/sport/glasgow-club/scotstoun/Pages/home.aspx

I'm going to aim to go on Tuesday but depends on how bad the weather is- flooded on the way to work this AM so might not be able to get there!

clarabella18 · 07/02/2011 09:49

jennifeR I just phoned Scotstoun they said they don;t do the aquanatal classes anymore. She said they did run one on a tuesday but it was cancelled as the instructor couldn;t do it anymore.

NarcolepsyQueen · 07/02/2011 09:58

dizzy77 Im in North Kent Smile. I havent been on this thread as I am on May 2011 - The Rosy Glow Before the Storm! - I didnt realise there were so many different May threads! I am due on Friday 13th May Grin, but am likely to be induced early due to award winning SPD. Feel free to pm me!

JenniferR · 07/02/2011 11:58

Thanks Clarabella- saved me a wasted journey. It's on their timetable for Monday and Tuesday, they musn't have updated it. Will just have to go for a swim instead!

suedehead · 07/02/2011 12:22

Hi Ladies

Not been on here for ages - glad to hear you're all plodding along nicely.

Think we're all definitely at the shopping phase, aren't we? We finally decided on the pram, and picked it up from the delivery depot place on Friday - glad we've got a few months to master it! We live near the Mamas and Papas factory shop too, so have been popping in every now and then for a few bargains.

Thanks trixie123 for the 'what to pack in your hospital bag' list - will really come in handy, especially for first time mums like me!

Has anyone else started their antenatal classes yet? We've been going to NCT ones for a couple of weeks - really enjoyed them. It's a great environment to openly ask all those stupid questions you never normally dare ask (apart from on here, of course!), and the other couples are really lovely.

Hope you're all enjoying the countdown to mat leave, as I am!

cowboylover · 07/02/2011 22:13

The shopping phaze is defo upon us! I went to B&Q today and came out armed with paint charts are tester pots for 6 different Greens so looking forward to seeing what they look like up tomorrow so they have time to 'settle' and I can make sure I really like it before the painting starts in March.

Watching OBEM with Mum now and I think I am feeling more confident now but cant believe how much wax and gunk the baby comes out covered in!

I dont think the ante-natal classes for us at the hospital start until Mid April but I would like to go earlier to give it time to settle in so I am going to ask if I can go earlier.

Henrathoon · 08/02/2011 21:45

Hello All,
I'm new to mumsnet and this thread, hope I can join in with a bit of the excitment though?

Feeling like the odd one out not being in Scotland! I'm down in the South West near Bath, anyone else this way?

I'm due on the 22nd, it's my first and so far, so good!

xxx

newmaman · 10/02/2011 17:02

I have not been in here for ages. Glad everyone seems to be ok. I can t wait to start nesting but we are moving in the next 2 weeks. So that's taking priority. We got loads of stuff second hand from freecycle it s such a great saving. Anyone else trying not to spend a fortune on lovely baby stuff.

Hello Henrathoon. I also live in Bath. And I am due the 25th May and it is also my first.

growing3rdbump · 11/02/2011 17:15

Me Newmaman!!! It's our 3rd baby so got lots of clothes for girls and boys already, so dont have to worry about that. We do have most things already, but do need to get a new stroller at some point. I've been cheekily putting off buying one hoping someone will be ready to pass theirs on! Luckily most of the friends I met when I had my first baby aren't pregnant at the moment and most have finished at 2 or 3 babies, so I'm getting lots of fabulous maternity clothes and baby non-essentials, which is helping! Having to prioritise spending on the older two as DC2 will need a new bed so he can pass the cotbed on to DC3! Plus swimming and violin lessons are draining funds!

Bubandbump · 11/02/2011 18:19

Well we had a check up scan yesterday and baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead at 28 weeks compared to normal at 20..eek..it is 2.8 pounds instead of 2.2!!!

I had a glucose tolerance test this morning but as both myself and dh were over 9 pounds, it could just be a big baby...think I will be getting the 0-3 mth clothes and skipping the newborn!

luluzulu · 11/02/2011 18:33

oh i'm due early may cant wait getting excited now, lots of movement from my little un.just got a few things left to buy really. bring on the spring!

LabMonkey · 11/02/2011 19:05

We've got a lot of things from freecycle and a few bits from ebay.

Also we have friends who were given a lot of 2nd hand stuff last year and they've boxed up all the baby clothes etc by age into storage boxes so we have newborn, 0-3, 3-6 and 6-9 month stuff all washed and ready.

I'm having a scan on Monday as part of the POPS research so will see if Ziggy's as big as I feel. Is anyone else feeling ginormous? Also am I the only one getting really bad sleep from painful hips?

luluzulu · 11/02/2011 20:42

yes feeling ginormous too LABMONKEY, hopefully wont get too much bigger although still 12 weeks to go and those are supposed to be the ones where baby grows most...eek!funny you should mention sore hips i had the most achy pains in my hips this morning when lying on the couch i put it down to excess weight and constant tossing and turning.

growing3rdbump · 12/02/2011 13:35

Really hugemongous and generally uncomfortable. Expecting baby to be a biggun as I've been eating WAY too much! DC1 was 2 wk early 6lbs 7oz, DC2 1 wk early and 7lbs 14ozs... this one will probably be over 8lbs...

I sleep with a V cushion under bump and between my knees and it seems to keep hip pain at bay.

ng1412 · 14/02/2011 10:06

Hi all, not feeling massive at the mo but am thinking the next couple of weeks will be interesting! I am finding it difficult to put my socks on now though as can't bend down as easily and trying to put my wellies on yesterday for our walk across the fields was hilarious.

Had terrible heartburn although today it seems to have gone, hoorah. Lots of kicks from Consuela, no more scans planned for me unfortunately, wish I could have another one just to check all ok, seems a long time from 20 weeks to birth.

Absolutely dreadful back ache though, the only thing that makes it go is sitting on my exercise ball to watch TV. My best pal is due to give birth next week and has been telling me that it only gets worse, I can't wait.

Hope everyone else is progressing nicely. Labmonkey I am very Envy at you getting a scan, let us know how you get on today!!

clarabella18 · 14/02/2011 19:23

Heartburn is well and truly kicking in now. Back to swigging gaviscon by the bottle! Also starting to make the groaning noise when bending down and have been getting my DS to tie my shoelaces for me all weekend under the guise that he needs the practice not because mum is a great big oaf!

Have been down to visit the folks in Yorkshire and brought a cot back with me and ordered my mattress off kiddecare. All I need now is a pram, oh and perhaps a baby too! Only 13 weeks or so to go!!! Shock

LabMonkey · 14/02/2011 20:08

The scan went really well today although as that also involves bloods for the study and I did the lucozade (yuck) test this morning I'm feeling a bit like a pin cushion :)

It's harder to get a good view on the scan now and part of the study is that we don't get told any of the measurements so not sure how big Ziggy is. We did see the heart pumping away which is always nice and we got a very cute piccy of a little nose and mouth Grin

As I'd taken the whole day off (so many tests and needing to see bank about mortgages) we were in town and ended up buying a couple of cheapo grobags and a nappy/baby stuff rucksack (me and DH both have dodgy backs so shoulder bags don't work).

Next scan at 36 weeks - eeek!
