Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi LabMonkey, good to hear you will be at the Rosie too, having read the responses to my post it seems like a good choice. Scary going somewhere that I haven't ever been before but we are going to try and visit the place before hand, if they will let us!

LabMonkey · 25/01/2011 06:59

I know it's not the same but they do have a virtual tour online. I realise that it's better to see it in person but it might be worth having a look at in advance so you can see if there's anything specific you want to ask.

And Happy Burns' Night everyone - these wee guys are making me even more homesick (I've been here 4 years!). [bsmile]

ng1412 · 26/01/2011 21:53

Well since Monday and my m/w appt, consuela hasn't been very active. I am getting into a bit of a panic. May have to see if I can get a scan organised, although not formally transferred to the Rosie yet from my old hospital (Watford) so not sure whether I can get a scan easily or not. I guess I need to ring the m/w tomorrow...

JBrd · 26/01/2011 22:06

Hi ng1412 and LabMonkey, I'm at the Rosie, too! I tried to do the virtual tour today in my lunch break, but it's under construction, at the moment they've just got some photos of the birthing rooms - some of them look huge. All my child-bearing friends around Cambridge really recommend the Rosie, it's the place to be (especially if something goes wrong, which is reassuring for me, as it's my first).
We're also doing the POPS study, lots of nice pictures for free. When one of my friends saw the scan photo, she thought we're going to call the baby 'Rosie Pops' because that's what the label at the top said Grin

BlueWellies · 27/01/2011 13:35

Hi all,

I fell over yesterday in a field and landed on the side of my bump. Was pretty sure nothing was wrong as it wasn't that hard and he was still kicking away, but when I got home I phoned mw numbers anyway and they said I would have to come in and get checked out. So spent 3 hours sitting in a hospital room till the early hours, after I didn't get home till 8.30pm (luckily I insisted we had dinner before we went to the hospital) while they told me everytihng was fine and waited to fill me with Anti-D (I'm rhesus -ve). Not worth the hassle.

So, this morning's resolution is to avoid all fieldwork if I can, and have just spent half an hour on the phone to my boss explaining why, which turned into him making me feel guilty for being outside so late and not taking it more easily (he's a really nice man) so now I feel stupid! I'm only trying to do my job! Anyone else got problems balancing work and pregnancy? How do you take it easily without feeling you're letting others down or slacking?

ng1412 · 27/01/2011 13:38

Yes I saw those photos, let's hope it's ok, the first time I will see it will be when I am in labour (what a thought).

Wish I had done that POPS study but knew nothing about it when I found out I was preggers!

LabMonkey · 29/01/2011 18:04

I caved! I had some M&S vouchers to use which were about to go out of date. Our local M&S doesn't do maternity so other than over-priced food I couldn't think of what to get.

I got this: www.marksandspencer.com/Petit-Bebe-Cotton-Assorted-Starter/dp/B0047R78T8?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_26&nodeId=72343031&sr=1-26&qid=1296324117. We are "trying" to hold out on buying lots of clothes until we see how big Ziggy is - oops!

growing3rdbump · 29/01/2011 18:38

Hi all, hope you're all keeping well. BlueWellies - I'm also RH -ve and got a big accidental kick in the belly from my 3yr old when we were swimming last wk - also ended up at the hospital until late...
During my first pregnancy I fell in the bath didn't think about the RH -ve until too late and they found fetal cells in blood, so I'm always careful now. Luckily DC1 and DC2 are both -ve too and I did consider not bothering with anti D in this definitively last pregnancy, but will have it just to be on the safe side!!!
About the £190 grant, I am extremely annoyed that we'll be missing out. I had planned to get a new and much needed stroller Angry... and don't even get me started on the plans to end child benefit Angry!!!!

growing3rdbump · 29/01/2011 18:39

sorry - rushed message - I mean end child benefit for higher tax earners.

ng1412 · 31/01/2011 18:16

Right well I went back to the m/w today, she found consuela's heartbeat after a bit of searching, was pumping away very strongly. Am very relieved.

Booked in to the Rosie now so JBrd and LabMonkey I may see you both there in May Smile

Bluewellies I am a higher rate tax payer as well and seem to be getting stung for everything these days by the darned government...

dizzy77 · 04/02/2011 16:07

I saw the midwife today for the 25 week appt which went well, and then had a dental appointment but the dentist was sick: pg brain meant I did not actually hear the words used in the message the surgery left me to tell me!

So, made the most of chance to stock up on baby books: got one on names, the Baby Whisperer and also Miriam Stoppard as my sister in law still uses it with her 3 year old. I've been leant Penelope Leach your baby & child which I love so really wanted my own copy of this but couldn't find it on any shelves - has she fallen out of favour? LOADS of Gina Ford but I'm not sure that's my style... Anyone else thinking about the post-birth reality yet?

Have taken the afternoon off so will now get Erin O'Brien to raise my heartrate with her DVD. Wish me luck!

JBrd · 04/02/2011 17:45

I'm in denial about post-birth reality Grin

JenniferR · 04/02/2011 17:57

Hi everyone
Just came across this blog and wanted to join. I'm due on May 2nd! Anyone due and in the Glasgow area? Would be great to swap stories :)

Jx

Kazmog · 04/02/2011 18:42

dear all,

Good luck with the pregnancies and births - I now feel a fraud to be on this site as my consultant has said they want to induce me at the end of March/beg of April.

Good luck to you all

clarabella18 · 04/02/2011 19:50

Hi jeniffeR I'm Glasgow area too. Due 18th may going to the southern. Had my first ds(8) at the queen mums.
Is this your first?

Jasmine2011 · 04/02/2011 20:08

Hello all May mums-to-be!!! I'm also due in May 2011...getting excited now and buying lots of 'nesting' things. I've just started a pregnancy blog as I thought it would be nice to have a record of my thoughts and feelings. One day, I hope to share them with my child. I'm interested to know if you've experienced the same sorts of things...like friends insisting they know what gender your baby will be? Here's the link and it would be lovely to hear your views. ariadnestar · 04/02/2011 21:13

Hi jenniferR and clarabella18 - I'm in Glasgow too, also due to give birth at the Southern, EDD 10th of May :) It'll be my first.

clouiseg · 05/02/2011 00:23

Hi all, I'm due 12th May with DC4 and just moved to sunny Scotland to be nearer DHs family.

Seem to be struggling a lot more this time with pregnancy but certain that my 3 busy little DDs play a part in that! Never felt so old/heavy/tired and still 13 weeks to go! Still...very excited & happy! And VERY grateful for mumsnet lol!

JenniferR · 05/02/2011 12:26

Hi clarabella18 and ariadnestar

I'm going to be at the Southern too! I'm due on the 2nd May. My first baby so exciting but a bit scary :) (in a good way). How are you finding everything? I think that the midwifes at the Southern have been fantasctic, really caring and laid back.

Clouiseg- welcome to Scotland, hope that your move went okay. Are you near Glasgow too?

Jx

growing3rdbump · 05/02/2011 13:45

dizzy I didn't read too many books when had DC1 and 2, but I did use the Gina Ford routine loosely and found it really helped me to make sense of sleeping / eating patterns. I dont think they should be followed too rigidly, I got an better ideas of why baby was irritable at 9am etc!!! Friends of mine swear by Gina Ford and followed the routines properly and had their babies sleeping through really early...!

clouiseg · 05/02/2011 17:24

Hi JenniferR and thanks! Moved from 4 hours away...on 23rd Dec...with 3 children. WILL NOT be doing that again in a hurry lol!

However LOVING Scotland! I'm in Dumfries so not near anyone that I know of Sad but looking forward to hitting Glasgow soon for a spendathon in Ikea / Babies'r'us! There is a lady who is pg a few doors down but havent yet plucked up the courage to say hi!

Lovely to have this thread running...it makes you realise how close we are when you see the other threads for September babies etc!!

dizzy77 · 05/02/2011 18:30

Thanks growing3rdbump I may give Gina a go after all. Have tried to read some Baby Whisperer but not keen on the tone - however recommended by someone I respect a great deal so will to see past it! My plan is to read as much as I can then choose what bits to use/pay attention to, assuming I won't have any time to read once Tiny arrives.

S excited for all the Scotland mums and rather jealous! Anyone Medway/north Kent? Dxx

clarabella18 · 05/02/2011 20:11

jeniffeR I'm getting most of my care through community midwives at my local health centre. Only really seen the MW at the southern for my booking appt which took 4 hours so wasn't that great an experience to be honest. Are you going to thenparent craft classes there? I was thinking about it as my Ds is nearly 9 so it's been a while!

clarabella18 · 05/02/2011 20:14

clouiseg haha I'm off to ikea tomorrow! And had a wander round mothercare today. Took dp to have a look at prams there's so much choice it's really hard!

JenniferR · 06/02/2011 11:12

Hi clarabella and clouiseg

I bought quite a few things from the kiddicare website, there were some really good deals on prams I saved over £150!!!! Not sure if the sale is still on though. I went for the 'Baby Jogger'- just because it's so light and easy to collapse and fits into small cars!

I get my antenatel care at the Western but have been through to the Southern a few times for scans etc. The only classes I've been told about are the birth prep ones and they're run through the Western. I haven't heard about the parent craft classes- have an appointment tomorrow though so will ask.

Sounds liek you must have had a pretty hectic move clouiseg- did you have to contend with all of that snow too? Must have been a challenge- well done! I moved to Scotland about 11 years ago and love it. You should def have a visit to Glasgow, the shopping's great and if you bring the kids they'd love the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery (free entry) and the Science Centre (you need to pay for this though).

Am beginning to feel a lot more pregnant now entering the last 3 months, also just got a cold which isn't fun. Might be starting the antenatal swimming class at Scoutson this week. Have either of you done anything like that? Feel a bit like a big berry in my costume :)
