Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ohh Gap baby sale, I cant believe I have not looked at that one yet! I have a booty of stuff waiting to be delivered from Next and Debenhams!

I prefer my bump now as it is really starting to look like a bump rather than just tummy.

Brillopads: Ours didnt ask us either until I asked her if she could tell us. I think thats the practice in most hospitals now.

pissovski · 29/12/2010 21:34

Managed to get some maternity clothes in the New Look Sale - pants £7, Tops £5/6 and a cardi which i totally adored on sight Blush at £8!!

Still think i jut look fat rather than pg but sure i will pop eventually!

Am also in the blue team (we think!!) and that came as a bit of a shock generally - everyone seems to ave been convinced it was going to be a girl!

chester21 · 29/12/2010 23:09

Bogeyface · 30/12/2010 00:41

Thought that as I am having my 20 week scan on Friday i ought to say hello!

I am about 19 ish weeks (I keep losing count!) and have several other children so I havent really given this pg much though aside from the usual appointments and not being able to drink my precious previous wine :o

I want a boy and DH wants a girl so one of us will get what we want!

Am due on 24 May :)

brillopads · 30/12/2010 09:27

cowboylover ah, I thought the sonographer didn't want to hazard a guess as baby was lying face down (using my bladder as a pillow LOL)

What's everyone doing with the "clothes you are no longer able to fit into"? Sad Banished to the bottom drawer ?

LabMonkey · 30/12/2010 10:31

I was wearing "normal" clothes until the week before Christmas but the not fitting pile is suddenly growing very quickly. An old friend kindly sent me all of her maternity clothes so I think tomorrow's job will be to go through my clothes and pack up all of the ones that don't fit to go in the attic until next summer. I think quite a few will expand as required so I will be keeping those out.

It does mean I can unpack all of the clothes I've been given and acquired on ebay and feel a bit more organised for going back to work.

JBrd · 30/12/2010 11:04

All my clothes I no longer fit into are where they always are, I haven't got any other space to move them to. I just have a small corner for my maternity wear, and then I help myself from my DH's clothes Grin.

More of a problems is where to put the tons and tons of baby clothes that I've been given by various friends! We haven't got a nursery yet and won't be able to do it up before the end of March due to our lodger still occupying the room. So they might have to go into the loft for the time being...

growing3rdbump · 30/12/2010 17:03

I am looking big now - prob more like how I looked at 30wks preg with DD1!!!! I have vacuum bagged a lot of my clothes as have been wearing maternity for a good few wks now. We have boxes of boy and girl clothes from 0 - 6yrs up in the loft, which I need to get down and sort out! We were told the baby is a girl, but don't feel 100% able to ditch the boy clothes just yet, just in case!!!

cowboylover · 30/12/2010 21:16

I have loads of clothes that didnt fit for a while pre-pregnancy so they have got to go as they are filling up what is going to be the nursery!

Not going back to work til the 10th so will do some sorting out. My bump has grown a lot recently and now gone hard? I feel like I am doing the 'pregnant lady' walk recently as my hips are painful so it makes me woddle.

LabMonkey · 03/01/2011 08:31

A question for all the not first timers. When will the baby be ok for a longish car journey (normally 3.5-4 hours but I know will be much longer with stops etc) and when will I be ready for the same?

Ziggy is due 7th May and we've been invited to a wedding in DH home village on 6th June. I'm not that fussed about going to the wedding but if we can't go I'd rather let them know asap. It would be a good time to go and visit all of the in-laws and get that over with although MIL's suggestion that we go to the wedding and she babysit our month old baby is not going to happen this side of hell freezing over. I hope to BF so I don't see myself going to much of the wedding anyway - might just pop into the ceremony if poss but let them know asap that I can't attend the reception.

My BIL is also getting married July/August-ish so we'd be down there for that so it's not like they're not going to all get to meet the baby. Only MIL will bother to come up here to see us so we will need to go down there at some point.

Am I being deluded to think that me and a 4 week old can sit in a car for several hours twice over a weekend?

missemmajane · 03/01/2011 12:08

LabMonkey - I am due on 20th May with my first and we are travelling to a family wedding in the middle of July - prob about 3-4 hour journey - we are planning to stop frequently to give us all some fresh air, and to get bubba out of the car seat for a few minutes! I would say your bubba will be fine, they aren't going to worry if they are asleep in a car seat or not - I would say as long as they are not sitting in it for too many hours at a time and don't get too hot it will be fine!! It will be a great chance to show bubba off!!!

BlueWellies · 03/01/2011 12:35

Hi all,

Not been on for ages, too busy with family and decorating (:( enough now, specially as not even got to our bedroom let alone the nursery!).

Hope everyone had lovely Christmases and is enjoying the New Year. Bit depressing up North now snow has almost gone and the sun is not shining, plus knowing I'm back to work tomorrow, break has flown by.

We had our scan on 20th December, and made a split second decision to find out and it's a boy! Totally shocked as I was convinced it was a girl, and so thought family so relieved we do know and can prepare. We're a bit on boy overload around here, so relieved that girls are being born! DH's comment was that he fears for the survival of the female population!!! Oh, and all well. Big relief.

I have proper bump now too, and maternity jeans finally turned up on xmas eve. Bout 4" too long - anyone else discover it's apparently possible to be petite or pg but not both? At least in Next, but that's the only place I seem to be able to get jeans I like.

Still having horrible indigestion & heartburn, has made me horiibly sick a few times, and is also brought on by hunger, so is a constant battle to keep eating enough not to get hungry, and to find foods I can manage while feeling rough.

So, feeling very pregnant and wondering how I'm going to get through next 18 +/- weeks (22 weeks today)... Still, really glad to be expecting and just wish time between now and May will fly!

P.S. also LabMonkey I'm a first timer so no idea re:travel, but was hoping to go to a wedding an hour or so away 2 days before I'm due. All assure me won't happen even if baby is early!!! Seems like a good excuse not to go to the wedding if you're not keen, and family can see baby later...

Justtrying · 04/01/2011 10:22

Hi all and Happy New Year.
Great to hear everyone's news, we had our scan on new year's eve, all well and we're having a girl. I'm 20.5 weeks and have a large bump and massive boobs, but have only put on 6 pounds, i guess i look large as i'm only 5'2.
Blue Wellies i'm also suffering with heartburn particularly if i don't eat often.
We also have a summer wedding, DH's grown up daughter is getting married on a Greek Island in Aug, so we shall we Hmm travelling with a 12 week old, not ideal. Good luck to everyone, i'd better do some housework before i got to my first aquanatal class, thats if i can get through to the leisure centre to see if its on.

natmay27 · 04/01/2011 11:25

hello, iv not got my anomaly scan til jan 20th when i will be 21 and 6 days, do you think it matters? congrats to all who have found out what they're having! :)

cowboylover · 04/01/2011 20:49

Justtrying: I am starting to wonder how big I can get as I feel like a total umpa lumpa at the moment as belly is big and boobs have not stopped growing! Gone up 2 cups and one band already so getting nervous now before I look like Pammy!

natmay27: The scan can be at 18 to 22 weeks so I think you should be fine and they would not book you so late. They grow so quick you should have a great view of your little one.

Booked my maternity leave starting a month before she is due but I am already debating leaving earlier! How far in advance are you all thinking of finishing?

LabMonkey · 04/01/2011 21:37

I'm aiming to work until the end if possible as I only have SMP so want to take as much of the 6 months with the baby as possible. I only work 10min from home and will be desk bound by then so should be ok Hmm.

growing3rdbump · 05/01/2011 18:10

Hi hope you've all recovered from xmas and new yr fun!
Labmonkey - baby will be fine to travel for that amount of time - I used to travel up to visit my parents (3hrs away) with my kids when they were tiny. I would recommend feeding baby as much as poss, hop straight in to car and keep going as long as you can until baby needs feeding again! If you're lucky he/she will sleep most/all of the way, which is totally fine really as a one off.
I will prob work until a month before baby is due as both my older children were born early and I'll need a rest!

Bubandbump · 05/01/2011 19:19

Re work I am still knackered and being sick all the time (argh I am 22 weeks so it looks like it is here to stay) so I have arranged to take all my holiday and then I can start my maternity leave adjacent to that which means I am off as of next week. Most people I know tend to finish 4 -6 weeks before d day but I work in a bank so holiday and maternity provisions are generous (even if I don't get paid for very much of it!)..

Also sorry if tmi but has anyone else started producing colostrum? I seem to have little crusts on my nipples which I think might freak my dh out!

LabMonkey · 05/01/2011 20:37

Thank goodness Bub I thought it was just me. I've taken to putting tissue inside my bra as I only have 2 and it's a bit minging. I have also leaked quite a lot in bed which led to an "interesting" wet patch Wink. DH was very good and pretended he wasn't too grossed out.

cowboylover · 05/01/2011 22:15

Bubandbump and Labmonkey: Does it get it itchy sometimes as well? I was very confused and a little freaked out.

Bubandbump (again): How long are you having off? I get 12 months so still get a nice long time off even if I do go off earlier than the average month before.

Anyone looking at prams yet?
I went shopping with Mum again today and I think I want an iCandy Apple but more expensive than I was planning on but I have been doing some good sale shopping so got to have made enough savings somewhere?!

pilsbury1 · 06/01/2011 11:57

Hello
Wanted to join in the fun :) I am 22+2 (due may 10th)and had my anomoly scan yesterday. All went fine and our little bump has everything is the right places and a very strong heart by the sounds of it too! The only thing a little bit wrong is that the doc said I had an retroverted womb - from reading around it sounds like it should have "dropped" by now, so hopefully it will do soon - anyone else have experience of this? i don't need to go for another scan so i guess the docs aren't that worried about it!
like most of you, my bump has had a growth spurt over xmas (nothing to do with excessive choc eating of course!) and am having difficulty pulling outfits together in the morning for work! will need to have a bit of a wardobe sort this weekend methinks... Friends have kindly lent me theit mat wear, but as someone mentioned above i also find the jeans waaaaay too long! i noticed that dorothy perkins have a sale online including some mat stuff, so will try and get some stuff over the weekend!
Keep well everybody!
x

Bubandbump · 06/01/2011 12:55

Cowboylover, I get up to 11 weeks before d day plus up to a year after, as the bank has signed up to Tommy's best maternity practices. It's why I don't feel too worried about starting it early as most people only seem to get about 6 months, although I plan on going back when the baby is 9 months old anyway. I also accrue holiday at full pay for all that time so I am using it all now! My job is really stressful so it's lovely that work have been great and I can now look after us both properly at home. I really am lucky to work for such a great boss though.

I told my dh last night about my new leaky nipples and surprisingly he didn't want to see them - apparently you can share too much information! They don't itch but seem to tingle with me though..think I have discovered by now that there is no such thing as being 'normal' during pregnancy.

We have just started thinking about prams- it seems quite confusing still so I think we just need to go and try some out. We have quite a small car boot but as we live in London, it won't have to go in the boot very often and live next to a big park so need something that is good to push for walks and I fancy a three wheeler but they all seem so big! DH also wants something that looks masculine!!

And then there's the rest of the baby list...not even started on that yet! How is everyone else doing on that front?

growing3rdbump · 06/01/2011 13:14

Yes also enjoying the leaky nipples (sorry but this all only gets worse!!!)

We had a cheap Graco travel system for DD1 (now 7) and used it again for DS1 (now 3) - will prob use it again this time too for trips out in the car and round shops. The best buy we ever made with DD1 was a Maclaren techno XT stroller as they're small, lightweight and look nice! I'll mainly be using a stroller with DC3 especially for walks to school and park etc as they're soooo easy! I was really looking forward to buying a new Maclaren (last one finally broke) for DC3 using the maternity grant, until I found out yesterdy that that is also being phased out and I wont qualify Angry.

I'll prob finish for maternity leave when school Easter holiday starts, but only officially start leave 2 wks after that (when I'm about 3 wks before due date). I really need to work for as long as possible as need as long as possible on the other side. Starting to think of childcare costs for 3 children is horrendous (I only work two days a week and will be paying out around £130 a week just on childcare/before/after school club and school dinners - arghh!). Dont know what we're going to do.

LabMonkey · 06/01/2011 20:26

I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask about itching as I generally itch 24/7 (I'm an eczema monster - always have been and sadly pregnancy didn't change it).

On the transportation front we got a full travel system for £77 from ebay including 2 car seat bases (a God send as DH works shifts and needs his car most of the time and mine's a wee 3 door so moving bases would be a pain).

I have to admit I'm quite jealous of everyone else's mat leave arrangements - mine is a bit pants you wouldn't think I work for a charity!

pilsbury1 · 11/01/2011 17:50

had a real pregnancy night last night - went to my first pregnancy yoga class and loved it. thought i'd think it was all just "hippy rubbish" but actually found it really relaxing and even enjoyed the mantras and chanting (was kundalini yoga).

then headed home afterwards and watched "one born every minute" - i cried from the start to the very finish! Going to force my hubbie to watch it with me next wk as until now we've both been kinda in denial about the actual labour so i think this is a good way of bringing it all home!

re: mat leave i've booked to finish on april 22nd april - my mat leave won't officially start until 3rd may but thanks to easter/royal wedding/spring bank holiday, i only need to take 3 days holiday (26/27/28 april) to get all that time off which is really helpful = more time on the other side before i have to come back to work! now i've confirmed my finish date though am veering from being worried about not fitting everything in in time before i go OR just having no interest in work whatsoever and instead thinking only baby thoughts all the time, lol!
