Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

Lab monkey. I've been the same, had about 4 or 5 headaches that have lasted 2 or 3 days at a time I too gave in and took paracetamol,'also found that the cold patches helped I've had to taje the odd day off work and just relax in the house as much as possible. I'm now 13 weeks and think the worst o them are probably over, fingers crossed!

LabMonkey · 14/11/2010 20:45

I'm 15 weeks now and the headaches have just started. It seems that food is the answer - was trying to be a bit healthier and stop eating tonnes of stodge as I'm only being sick once a day now. I guess I'll keep up with the food then!

MoppingMummy · 15/11/2010 12:46

LabMonkey - I've been getting headaches too, but luckily not always too severe. I would speak to your midwife about it, but i'm sure it's fine to take paracetemol. A friend of mine had major spinal surgery when pregnant with her 3rd and she was on pain killers (and I think codeine) for most of the pregnancy - so you do have options if you check with midwife first.

BlueWellies · 18/11/2010 08:43

Hi all,

It's been a bit quiet on here for a while, hope that's not because you're all suffering!

I haven't been getting headaches luckily for me, and haven't felt/been sick for a while, but have been having quite bad indigestion. Got some Gaviscon but found the pink sliminess so disgusting it was making me retch, so not sure that's going to work!

Have my next mw appt. next week which am looking forward to - do you think she might try for the heartbeat? Would love to know if the little think is still ok in there...
Anyone else wondering if everythings still going to plan?

JBrd · 18/11/2010 10:12

Hi all, thought I might finally join you - been following this thread for a while now. I'm due 9th May, and like BlueWellies, my sickness finally and thankfull seems to be on its way out! So relieved about that, it's been a right pain. I still have to make sure I eat every 2 hours, but other than that, I'm starting to feel more 'normal' again.
I had bad headaches around week 8-9, but they were probably more due to low blood pressure than anything else!

I dreamt last night that I was trying to bf my baby - I hope that's a good omen! Have my 16w-checkup with the MW next week, hope we'll be able to hear the heartbeat.

Also, I have just ordered my first round of maternity clothes on the internet - starting to get desperate, the only thing that still fits are my stretchy skirts! Has anyone else started buying mat wear yet?

2ndtimemumtobe · 18/11/2010 11:33

Hi everyone,

I have been reading the whole thread and think its brilliant how you are all sharing your experiences.

I have waited a long time for this pregnancy! I am 15 weeks tomorrow and got a midwife app next wednesday. Hopefully we'll get to hear the heartbeat and hoping to take my DD to hear it.

Anyway just wanted to say hi cos i feel like i know you all already :)

Take care everyone and hope to speak to you all soon

x

ng1412 · 18/11/2010 12:04

Hi everyone

I would like to officially join this club too! Been monitoring during early pregnancy but given previous m/c didn't want to get too involved too quickly for obvious reasons.

JBrd and 2ndtimemumtobe, I am in exactly the same position as you, 15 weeks today with my 16 week midwife appt next Thursday.

I bought my first batch of maternity clothes this week as I can't force myself into my normal work gear any more.

Oh and been getting bad headaches and sickness but hoping both are not so frequent from now on. I live in hope!

2ndtimemumtobe · 18/11/2010 12:21

i know how you feel ng1412 i live in leggings at the moment havent bought any maternity clothes yet but think i might have to soon!

my sickness is dying down a bit now and not feeling as tired. I hope you start to feel a bit better soon.

With my dd i had a horrible pregnancy so hoping i can enjoy this 1 a bit more.

BlueHydrangea · 18/11/2010 16:13

Hi all, have been reading the thread from time and time, now I'm starting to feel "human" again :) thought it would be good time to join in. (DD 19th May)

I suffer from headaches too, but a friend passed on a good tip which seems to be working and that's apple juice. No idea why, but have been drinking it every morning at work and so far it's been keeping any headaches at bay.

Also, has anyone else started to get cheeky comments from people now you are starting to show? Someone at work thought I had put on some winter weight!! To which I replied that it was a baby not fat...

jojosmaman · 18/11/2010 16:25

Hello everybody, there seems to be a bit of a baby boom at the moment, I think May will be a busy month!

I am 16 weeks now, had my flu jab yesterday (ouch!) and have midwife tomorrow so hope to hear a little heartbeat (and start the guessing game of sex of the baby!).

Have started to feel a few little flutters recently which is good, I'd forgotten how nice those feelings are Smile and other than a rounding of the old belly feel relatively normal for the first time in months..going to make the most of the second trimester before the heartburn kicks in!

Glad leggings are "in" this time round although I can see the words "style" and "rut" flashing before my eyes as I can't see me bothering to wear much else this time!

cowboylover · 18/11/2010 18:11

Welcome to the recent joiners! Its going to be a busy month. My Mum works in a pub and there are 5 babies expected in the staff!

BlueWellies I cant handle the liquid Gaviscon either but I have been having Rennie anti acid which are the square white chalky ones which are helping.

JBrd You are lucky! I have been in maternity clothes since about 8 weeks as my body shape has changed so quickly! I have a very obvious bump now and my MW said sometimes it all changes very quickly then it slows down.

jojosmaman Does everyone get the flu jab? I have not been asked about it yet and now 14 weeks. I am going to the hospital for bloods so I think I willask them when im there. It deas feel like there are a lot of appointments due now or soon which for me the timing couldnt be worse as Christmas is sooo busy for us!

I cant believe how quick the time is going and I am 14 weeks already and we will be having our 1st thread babies in no time! Its only 6 weeks til we can find out what we are having (I hope!) I have heard other people mention it but what does the heart rate have to do with guessing the sex?

funnylittlekaty · 18/11/2010 19:29

Apparently lots of teachers (like me!) have babies in April and May because they only have the time and inclination to get busy in the bedroom department during the 6 weeks holiday! Har har.
Am having a terrible time at work at the moment, would love to just go and tell them to shove it, I'm pregnant and can't be putting up with all the bullshit, but don't want them to think I'm acting that way because I'm pregnant.
So looking forward to next week, have my next midwife appt and love the times I can just walk out of work and go and focus on my lovely babba.
Sorry to rant.

funnylittlekaty · 18/11/2010 19:33

cowboylover, according to my what to expect when you're expecting app, fetal heart rate of fewer than 140 beats per minute means it's a boy; more than 140 says girly. They also say it's rubbish though so take it all with buckets of salt. Does anyone else have an inkling about what it is yet? I'm so sure it's a boy that if a girl comes out I'll have to tell them to rummage around up there and see if there's a boy still lurking! I'll feel like such a muppet now if it's a girl! Wink

BlueWellies · 18/11/2010 22:01

Hello everyone, lovely to hear from you all, hi everyone new!

jbrd - I'm also due 9th May! Suggested to work could take mat leave from 26th April but finish work on 8th, so would leave plenty of me time before its due. Anyone else had to suggest dates yet?

Ng1412 I've also got midwife appt. next thursday! Friend has assured me she will try to hear the little heartbeat!!! (Said friend v. excited as she's expecting 1st in January - they've just bought a pram after much reserach - we'll be there soon, but less time wil have to be spent on choosing I guess if our current lives are anything to go by!)

MoppingMummy · 19/11/2010 13:22

Funnylittlekaty I'm a teacher and this baby and my second child both due/born May (aug is a good month!).
I'm due around 16th May. Both previous children were 2 wks early so I've proposed to work that I will officially finish on 24th April (3 wks before due), but I'll actually get 5 wks because Easter holiday is before this. Expecting to be quite tired after a busy Easter with 2 children and want to have some time to myself to rest before 2 become 3 Grin.

JBrd · 19/11/2010 14:04

I'm not really thinking about maternity leave - I was made redundant at the beginning of August and have not managed to find another job yet. Obviously, it's all a bit more complicated now that I'm pg and will at most have 5-6 months left if I do find a job! But I've had some positive responses when enquiring about possibilities with a few companies, had a couple of phone interviews and now have been invited to a face-to-face interview next week to discuss the ifs and what. Fingers crossed! The idea of sitting at home without anything to do until May just terrifies me. DH's job is also very wobbly at the moment, so it would be good to have some money coming in before the baby arrives.

Talk about bad timing...but then there's probably never the right time!

jojosmaman · 19/11/2010 15:42

Cowboylover- I'm not sure if its standard procedure re flu jab, I just got a letter about it a month or so ago saying I can have it.

Had my 16 week midwife appt today which was really nice, got to hear the heartbeat which was great! I asked her whether she thought it was fast or slow and she said "its fine, that's all you need to worry about, nevermind playing guess the sex!". Darn it!

trixie123 · 19/11/2010 17:30

headachey people have you thought it might be caffeine withdrawal? It can give you really severe headaches. I found a balance with one cup of proper tea or can of diet coke a day was enough caffeine to stave it off.

hi everyone else (waves) just checking in. Am also a teacher due with DC2 in MAy - its definitely true about the summer holiday thing! and I think DS1 was conceived during half term Grin

pissovski · 19/11/2010 23:00

Another teacher due in early May Grin

Am on supply and have just been told that my placement will last for a little while (ie past Xmas) so that makes life easier.

Am 16+2 but am getting away with normal clothes (just about!) and haven't told anyone at work or at my agency yet - guess i will have to soon ish though.

chester21 · 20/11/2010 11:44

hi hope you are all well. i was wondering if any of u felt a bit in limbo. I am 16+3 havent heard the heartbeat yet. and my next scan isnt for another 5 weeks. Its still a bit too early to feel anything how did u get through this limbo section of pregnancy.

JBrd · 20/11/2010 11:50

chester21 - are you not having a midwife appt where you can listen to the heartbeat? I get a 16-week checkup here with the MW, but I don't know if they do that everywhere. Why not call her and ask?

chester21 · 20/11/2010 12:13

hi JBrd had my 16 week appoinment on Tuesday but she didnt listen to the heartbeat she just did the downs syndrome blood test and check the bp and i might give her a call on monday to see if i can have an appointment

jojosmaman · 20/11/2010 14:53

chester21- My midwife said that they are trying to discourage midwives from using a doppler at 16 week check ups as it can be quite hard to find the heartbeat and so cause unnecessary worry if it cant be found. It might be that your midwife is following new guidelines?

My midwife has been around forever though and I think she will do what she wants!

doodledee · 20/11/2010 22:34

Hi girls, can i join in too! I'm 16 weeks tomorrow - due 8 May -3rd pregnancy, have a beautiful 3 year old (and a mc a year ago). Is there anyone else who hasn't told family/friends ANYONE (apart from hubby of course!) yet??? Don't know why but not ready to tell people - was same with daughther - didn't tell anyone till 18+ weeks. Is this strange?

Teasie · 21/11/2010 16:56

Welcome Doodledee! We've told all our family and closest friends now the 1st scan and the Downs test has been done and we are in a good place. I wanted to wait until that happened. I'm now almost 14 weeks and really enjoying it- my energy is back, the nausea and back pain has gone! I know that will be temporary!
