Tibbo I'll second you in the wind stakes. Have been running to the loo constantly at work to "let one off in secret" tmi sorry!
I too went to my Docs 3 weeks ago now and still haven't beard from the midwife or hospital. I'm 8+3. Have decided that if I don't bear by 10 I'm gonna phone back.
Ladylight I'm the same with the night time toilet trips and for some reason have developed an inability to sleep in late even when it's handed to me on a plate, very annoying !

Esi72 · 09/10/2010 10:43

Congratulations. Enjoy your pregnancy.It's fun

Hey all - am about 6 weeks (LMP 14 Aug - due date 21 May) with no. 2, little boy is 20 months so a nice gap, although a toddler and a newborn will be interesting.

Biggest worry is my weight, I weigh about 16 stone, BMI is approx 35, and I'm 39. Have been trying to find some sort of support group, but there really isn't anything except Overeaters Anon - and I don't do God.

Live in Bucks - has anyone heard of any sort of support group for overweight people? Not interested in WW or Slimming World - they won't take me while pg anyway - and have never got more than a weigh-in and a money grab from them.

I'm not a naturally unhappy person, but combined with the hormones - it's getting me down.

BUT... congratulations to ALL of you, it's what we wanted too - just need a bit of support to deal with my paranoia!

Tibbo81 · 09/10/2010 23:55

Neadsy and Justtrying, its so nice not to be the only one suffering with wind. Its not to bad where i work i can blame it on all the men that come in my office!!Grin

DH suggested he cooked prawns again for dinner tonight then preceed to nearly wet himself as i ran to the loo (horrible man!!), Even the thought makes me want to be sick. There the only food item ive gone off which i'm very pleased about and as i dont eat them that often i'm sure i won't miss them.

Neadsy, i think i will do as your doing and wait till 10wks, if i haven't heard from Midwife/hospital i'll phone my doctors and see what they advise.

Speak to you all son
Tibbo xx

Haven't posted on here for ages but been reading and keeping up every day, just been so tired and sick quite a bit too. Just love how reassuring it is! Had a few smiles today reading about folks wondering about when we'll start to show...am also about size 18 and having exactly the same thoughts and making v similar observations! Love how whatever I seem to be thinking is reflected by others at the same stage on here. I'm constantly veering between wanting to snack to help with nausea and being a bit concerned about gaining excess weight not baby. I think the best thing to do is chill and not beat ourselves up about anything.
Other query is, is it ok to be drinking alcohol free beer at this stage even though it has a tiny amount of alcohol? Had one last night and it was SO GOOD! though felt a bit guilty in case I shouldn't be?

soontobeblooming · 10/10/2010 17:28

Hi everyone, Im also due early May 2011 with my second pregnancy (mc march this year)

Am extremely nervous to say the least and to top it off this morning like a completely demented fool i decided to hoover up and when i went to move my coffee table i REALLY hurt my back Angry

Im in quite a large amount of pain only from my back area not tummy (thankfully)and i think im looking for some reassurance or perhaps a really good bollocking from someone for moving the table in the first place!! :-(

any comments much appreciated xx

cowboylover · 10/10/2010 17:31

I think my belly has expanded more overnight! I just worry that im eating the right things as dont want to be even bigger than I am now. My MIL pointed out over sunday dinner that I had either got by dates wrong or eating to much as its unusual for a girl of my size to be showing so much so quick! Nice! And then proceeded to mention a lower fat alternative of every food I mentioned had passed my lips in the last week! Angry

I dont see any reason to feel guilty for that Clueless but if it makes you feel like that there are some Alchohol free beers that are totally free. Bavaria is 0.0% as it is brewed differently and the alchohol is never there where as the others have it removed at a later stage which is what gives the slight percentage. It tastes good and even suitable for those who cant have alchohol because of there religion ect.

Its brewed in Holland by Monks and is available in Sainsburys and Morrisons, probably more but thats the ones I know for sure.

(I work for a Brewery so not just a geek!)

trixie123 · 10/10/2010 17:37

Please don't worry about weight issues now. Do you what you need to do to get through this experience and tell everyone else to mind their own business. Like the theory that chocolate = happy baby and DS1 would seem to be some evidence for it! Weight issues will sort themselves out further down the line and low fat versions of things often have lots more sugar and artificial ingredients which you may prefer to avoid. Relax and enjoy this time.

Katerlina · 10/10/2010 20:33

clueless- don't worry - latest guidelines are that 1 to 2 units per week aren't a problem - which is far more than one alcohol free beer!

I feel much better today - broke down completely on Saturday night after my posting and sobbed copiously on OH's shoulder - who apologised for not taking my nausea and tiredness seriously (he had been a teeny bit irritable about the whole thing!) and told me (ss he often does) how much he loves me and how beautiful he thinks I am... I am a lucky, lucky woman.

Did, however, go out and buy a shedload of vegetables and salad today - not to diet but to balance my overall intake. I should know by now that too many carbs makes Kate a sad girl....!

Will be contacting my GP tomorrow to get some movement on booking a nuchal scan - has to be done in three weeks to six weeks time, and we all know how long the NHS takes to sort out appointments!

Caz10 · 10/10/2010 20:36

Ooooh I have booked an early scan for this coming weekend...should be 8.3...terrified!!!

Katerlina what are the dates for a nuchal scan, I have forgotten all of this from 1st time round?!

Last time all I was entitled to was the 12wk and 20wk scan - if you wanted nuchal you had to go private - can you get it on the NHS now?

Also feeling sick, tired and teary!!

Katerlina · 10/10/2010 21:02

Hi Caz, I moved from Wiltshire to Bucks since last baby - had to go private in Wilts - but Nuchal is available at Stoke Mandeville on the NHS in Bucks - it is very hospital specific I think - and due to my age I shall kick off if I don't get one!

They have to be done between 10 weeks and 13 weeks and 6 days. Check with your midwife about whether it's available in your area...

Katerlina · 10/10/2010 21:06

And thanks for the sympathy/ empathy - can feel like such a loser with all these hormones surging about!

And trix - i am getting my fair share of choc this time - last pregnancy it gave me migraines! Eternally grateful that it stopped after I dropped - and that it doesn't appear to be the case this time around. With the added nausea and paranoia, am fully expecting a girl this time around!

LabMonkey · 11/10/2010 07:14

I know this is very premature and I'm being very hormonal but is anyone else on DC1 having a meltdown about finances? I'm the main earner and our mortgage although affordable isn't small. How on earth is this going to work with me on no salary for 6 months? I know it's 90% for 6 weeks but that's only 6 weeks and having to go back to work when DC is 6 months is going to be bad enough I don't want to have to go back earlier.

We have savings and will make it work somehow but I wish DH would take it a bit more seriously - he'd rather spend his last £ on dvd's at the moment. I'm trying to work out what I can ebay so that I can afford some maternity clothes for work when I need them.

Justtrying · 11/10/2010 07:29

LabMonkey, I'm also having DC1 and thinking finances. I have minimal savings but earn a reasonable wage, i'm trying to save as much as poss before i start maternity. Also doing ebay to try and generate some cash for maternity clothes etc. I guess its normal to have concerns especially with all our hormones on overtime. My DH won't think baby until after a sucessful 12 week scan can't wait until I can start telling people.

BlingLoving · 11/10/2010 10:12

Hi all. I've been out of touch for a while, but distracted with work and other things. Welcome to some of the newbies to this thread.

I had my early scan. She dated me as being 7 weeks pregnant and the baby is all there, with a heart beat fluttering. It was amazing. She also told me that the chance of miscarriage is now only 1% and that in her opinion, we can tell people. We aren't going there as we want to keep it quiet for a bit longer but have told a few of our friends which has been nice.

She also said that the odd glass of wine is completely fine and to use her phrase, to suggest that all alcohol is bad is "complete nonsense". She got quite irritated about it actually and pointed to last week's study. Obviously, she said not to go on a bender but said if I want a glass of wine on the weekend or the odd half glass during the week, that's fine. Which is great except that I don't feel like wine anymore. Sad. Although I have been craving beer so will allow myself the odd small one over the next few weeks.

Labmonkey - I wouldn't say we're having a meltdown on finances, but yes, we're concerned. I get a generous maternity allowance but the capital outlay needed up front is quite scary. Plus we have to do some work to our house that we don't feel we can put off with the baby coming and we will have to buy a car that we can actually put a baby in safely (there is nothing close to where we live and the bus only runs twice an hour - the benefit is we paid less for a bigger house but I'll go crazy if I can't get out and about while on maternity leave).

So that is scaring us somewhat. We're going to look at our finances carefully in the next week or two and work out what we can do.

Katerlina · 11/10/2010 10:17

LabMonkey - can you take a mortgage holiday? check it out with your provider - they are often more understanding than you think, particularly if you give them good notice and very good reasons!!

Katerlina · 11/10/2010 10:25

Also - cannot promote car boot sales and nearly new strongly enough - DO NOT bankrupt yourself for your new baby - he or she will not care what they wear as long as they are warm and loved.

My little boy is currently wearing very cool clothes that cost me about 50p in total, and the newbie will be kitted out in handmedowns and car boot booty too.

I saw a Mamas and Papas double pushchair at our local car boot for £35 on saturday. Our original big pushchair cost us £400 - and I have seen many second hand travel systems (in very good nick) for a tenth of that at car boots and nearly news. Basically I could have had a different second hand pushchair every month for the amount we shelled out on our BebeConfort!

Ask around friends for moses baskets, cots, bedding - even if you are just borrowing for a year.

If you can't afford it - don't. Babies don't have to cost the earth - it's a myth perpetrated by Mothercare and Quinny!!

And if your breastfeeding - they don't even cost you anything to feed for at least four months Grin

I know we all have yummy mummy dreams - I did with baby no. 1 - but now I know what's important - healthy, happy children and a loving family.

tabitha333 · 11/10/2010 14:03

Hi there,

yes, I agree entirely with Katerlina.

Im the 45 year old whose fallen pregnant unexpectedly, and I have 3 children.I also have generous maternity pay but I will be going to car boots etc.I am not prepared to cripple myself financially and have all that worry when it is not necessary to have everything new.

I had a scan a week and a half ago at 7 weeks but have to wait another 2 weeks for my 2nd. With my age, Im worried about things going wrong, but what will be will be.Still feeling v tired and Im sure my tummy is rounder! Also cant stop eating because Im so hungry!

Havent told work or my children.Im going to hold off as long as I can in case anything goes wrong. Dont think im goignto make it to christmas before telling them tho!

Love the chat here!

Tabitha.

LittleMilla · 11/10/2010 17:05

Hi all,

With just seven days until my scan I am starting to go looping. Am I really pregnant is my most common question? Am I simply getting fat and imagining all other symptoms?

Anyone else in this totally bananas state of mind?

ALso, has anyone signed up to babycentre emails? GOt my yesterday - "you're now 11 weeks pg (woohoo), might be suffering from heartburn. blah blah blah". I hadn't until that stage been suffering, now at my desk trying to pat out a burp but wincing cause my chest is still a little tender. FFS.

Sorry, feeling whiging today. Hope everyone is OK. I can only second money thing. Friends of ours have done the whoel thing via charity shops, freecycle and ebay and I feel like a nob to even consider buying new.

LabMonkey · 11/10/2010 17:55

Thank you all - I'm much calmer this afternoon. My wonderful DH has (without prompting) spent all afternoon (he works shifts) looking at mortgage stuff. We have to get a new mortgage in June anyway so it looks ok.

My parents were thrilled and immediately offered us our old cot (made by my Grandad for my big bro in 1977!) which is still in perfect condition. I've also been scouting out maternity gear on ebay and we're def going down the hand-me-down ebay route.

My main worry wasn't the baby stuff more just the thought of me not being paid for 6 months!

TrinityCalling · 11/10/2010 18:33

Hi everyone, just having a bit of a wibble so thought I'd ask for some advice...

Having realised a little late that I pregnant (ie last week at approx ten weeks Blush) and been to see GP a week ago, I've now had a letter through from my local hospital's Maternity Unit saying I've got a booking in appointment on this Saturday. It says to allow about 1 and a half hours and to take urine sample and some other forms.

Frustratingly I can't make the time they've specified but what I'm confused about is whether this is my 12 week scan or not because the word 'scan' isn't mentioned anywhere??? I know all health authorities do things a bit differently and I would ring the hospital but there's noone in that dept until Weds. I will have gone loopy not knowing by then so thought I'd ask if anyone here know's if it's all done at one appointment?

BlueWellies · 11/10/2010 19:30

Hi everyone, is this one of the most active threads on Mumsnet?

TrinityCalling, can't help with your question, sorry, as this is my first and all I know is where I am I have my booking in appointment at the surgery. I spoke to the MW last week and she said that the scan here will be combined dating nuchal scan between 11 and 13 weeks 6 days. She also said that she won't be able to listen for a heartbeat for a while as she'd not hear anything and I'd go away worried. So much for hoping I'd be reassured I hadn't made it all up! Anyway, my booking in appointment is on Thursday, so that might make it seem real.

We've also briefly mentioned finances, again, I earn more than OH and no pay will be an issue, but for us it's more what we do after maternity leave, as I have to travel a lot for work and it seems just too complicated and exhausting. If I don't go back though, I get much less maternity pay. My OH, like yours justtrying, also thinks lets not seriously consider until 12 weeks.

missemmajane, nice to meet a fellow sufferer, hope we both start to lose the IBS symptoms soon. I had really bad indigestion last Thursday when we were out at the theatre, it was quite painful and I've never had that before. Is that a regular pg thing?

Blingloving, what's that about only 1% risk? Is that 7+2, and is that general? Would love to know the chances of miscarrying now. I'm 10+2 on dates.

LittleMilla · 11/10/2010 21:27

TrinityCalling I would hazard that it's just the booking in appointment (i.e. no scan) and once you're on the system, they'll get you a scan quickly afterwards.

I received two letters at pretty much the same time - one with booking in and then the other with scan. The scan stuff was very clear and requested that I come with full bladder etc.

Anyway, it's sort of like the blind leading the blind on here as many of us are first timers. So i'd suggest giving the mat ward a quick call. Just to double check that they know how far along you are.

Good luck Smile

cowboylover · 11/10/2010 21:53

missemmajane and BlueWellies I also suffer with IBS nad my MW has recommended that I stop taking my fiber supliment so super missing that! I am currently so windy and constipated that its giving me lower back pain. Sad

TrinityCalling I have already had my booking appointment and I had an appointment card through from the hospital with no details except the time and the department to visit and nothing else so I am presuming its for my scan as the MW said to expect it that week but I might be disapointed.
