Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

OMG now I am panicking that I should have had an early scan to check all's in there okay! Anyone else NOT had an early scan and waiting for the 12 weeker?

BlingLoving · 05/10/2010 09:36

LaraMi - I'm the only person I know in RL who is having an early scan. don't worry, you're normal! And I'm only having it because I conceived on Clomid with a private doctor so a) she wants to see me to check it's all okay and b) I want to see to check it's all okay because it's been nearly two years of tests, and blood, and scans and medicine! Smile

No pain today so far. So feeling optimistic. Interestingly, I got a really good, long night's sleep last night so I wonder if there's any connection.

LaraMi · 05/10/2010 09:40

Glad to see you're better BlingLoving. Got my fingers and toes crossed for you.

cowboylover · 05/10/2010 10:22

I am not having any early scans either.

Feel like crap today as not gone to work and feeling super guilty!! It's the first day I have had off due to pregnancy symptoms but I don't have a great sickness record so I hope I don't get in trouble. Does anyone know if pregnancy related is treated differently? I am not getting morning sickness but all night sickness which starts at about 10pm and all night until 9am by which time I am late for work, cant face the hours commute and an emotional wreck due to lack of sleep!

Sorry for such a long me post, I hope everyone else is doing well x

BlingLoving · 05/10/2010 10:36

Bluewellies - why aren't you eating seafood? My understanding is that shellfish is fine as long as it's cooked? Probably not in huge quantities, but for one meal should be fine.

jbells · 05/10/2010 11:12

bluewellies- seafood is ok, as long as its cooked and not eaten all the time i.e everyday think something to do with the trace amounts of mercury in it

cowboylover- yes pregnancy sickness is treated diff, u can be off as much as u want with pregnancy related sickness and there cant be any reviews punishment etc :)

im am feeling nauseus from the moment i wake up till i go to sleep its horrible, the look, smell and thought of food makes me wanna vomit, didnt experience any of this in first pregnancy :( hope it goes soon

cowboylover · 05/10/2010 11:15

Thanks jbells

I think the same with the prawns especially as this information has changed recently. I love prawns but the fact the it only has recently changed makes me feel a little nervous but as my mum told me when she was having me she was advised to eat lots of liver to keep her iron up! Its a little confusing I think x

tabitha333 · 05/10/2010 13:20

Hi everyone. Like Prestonbub I am due mid May..in fact the 19th!Seems a long time away at the mo tho doesnt it?

LaraMi · 05/10/2010 13:31

Tabitha, Xmas will be here in no time and then, come the new year the countdown will begin. It will fly. Don't know if any of you ladies feel like this, but I am suffering from a complete lack of motivation at work. It's like I'm thinking "I know something you don't know" and I can't wait to spring it on them at 12 weeks! I plan on taking a full year off and then working somewhere else afterwards. It's really hard to feel passionate about what I'm doing when I know what is happening in my tummy. I keep sneaking onto this blog and minimising the screen in the office!

Bubandbump · 05/10/2010 13:35

Hi guys, I am due 18th May. In Greenwich and the maternity services here are awful to say the least. I have my dating scan booked in for when I am 13 weeks and apparently I don't get my first midwife appointment till a couple of weeks after that. Helpful as have had morning sickness and increasing tiredness for the past 3 weeks so much that the doctor has signed me off work for the week. I too have googled everything that you could imagine and actually think that now I have run out of new things to google I have started to calm down and accept what will be a little more. It's nice to have other people going through the same things as no one ever talks about the first trimester and it's awful!!

Bubandbump · 05/10/2010 13:40

Also LaraMi, I work in an all male team and had to tell them all 3 weeks ago due to the sickness. They have been absolute angels but have either spent my time at work staring at the screen feeling sick or discretely googling symptoms! I work in a pretty high pressure job and seem to have lost any ability to concentrate or even remember what I am doing half of the time!

jbells · 05/10/2010 14:42

coyboylover- i have ate quite a lot of prawns since i have bin pregnant for some reason my stomach seemed to be craving them, altho now i cant stand the thought of eating anything, its true they did get told to eat liver and we were all ok, i think they can over analyse things

congrats to tabitha and bubandbump

my area is the same dont get a scan till 12 weeks and dont see the midwife till couple of weeks afta that boo

cowboylover · 05/10/2010 17:58

LaraMi I am the same, I find myself sitting in work getting really confused when im there but then when im home I feel bad for not being there. I know I will take the whole year off and DH wants me to finish now and not go back but dont want to do that yet as I might not want to be a SAHM. I get a little anxious about it as when I was unemployed I felt faceless but DH keeps saying I wont be then I will be a Mum!

I saw my midwife last week who said I should get a letter for a scan day this week but nothing so far so I hope it hurries up! I did say I would rather be called as I dont trust our postal service at all with the amount of wrongly delivered letters I get. If I dont get it on Thursday I will call and see whats happening.

suedehead · 05/10/2010 18:25

LaraMi that is so true! i have the 'i know something you don't know' thing going on at the moment. people keep saying about something being a nightmare next year and i keep thinking 'i don't care - i won't be here!'

like a lot of the other ladies on here, i won't be having a scan until the 12 weeker. going to see the midwife on thursday - feels like ages ago that i booked the appointment - so glad it's actually arrived. decided we're going to tell family on thursday evening, so am getting pretty excited / nervous about that! anyone else managed to keep it secret so far?!

funnylittlekaty · 05/10/2010 18:45

Bubandbump, I'm just down the road in Lewisham. Got my booking appt week tomorrow, I'll be 11 weeks by then, and then a dating scan the following weds, when I'll be 12 weeks. All's been great so far with the mat service, hope yours improve. Have you decided where you'll pop the baby out yet?

Question for all of you guys...my scan letter doesn't mention owt about drinking lots of water before, but my sis used to run a sonography dept and reckons that if I go with a full bladder the picture of babba will be clearer. Whaddya think?

Bubandbump · 05/10/2010 19:06

Funnylittlekaty, I am in Blackheath so they gave me e choice of either Lewisham or Queen Elizabeth. I know Lewisham has had bad press in the past but recently seems to have turned itself around. I had to choose when I went to see the GP for a midwife referral and he said I had to decide there and then as it depended on the midwife unit I would get. I asked for some more information and he said that he was surprised I hadn't researched it already!! (just what I needed a week after finding out I was pregnant...) So on the spot I chose Queen Elizabeth. Slightly concerned as Queen Mary's is shutting over winter and they will be referring them all to Queen Elizabeth instead. I am going to wait and see what the midwife appointment is like but slightly concerned that I won't have any consistency throughout and have been researching getting a private midwife who will also do postnatal care too- my mum thinks I am panicking unnecessarily but my sister is a nurse up north and it seems like the ante natal care is pretty sparse around here in comparison.. It's all so complicated! How about you?

trixie123 · 05/10/2010 19:17

yes its true that they like you to have a full bladder. They usually have a water machine in the waiting room in case you forget you can tank up quickly Smile.

As far as scans and appointments go, don't be afraid to ring and pester people if you think you are missing out on care. It is a ridiculously beaurocratic process and you can sort of fall through the cracks - scans at the wrong time and missing paperwork that you get the blame for, that kind of thing. Make sure you have the phone numbers of the antenatal clinic at your hospital, and the ultrasound dept and your midwife team (which maybe the same as the hospital)so you can be clear about what you are getting and when and if, at appointments they confuse you by talking about different things and sending you here and there for blood tests stop them and ask them to clarify things. Its amazing how crap the communication can be between a consultant, their receptionist, and the bloods / scanning dept just down the hall. My Consultant last time would tell me I needed a blood test and then send me out of the room with no paperwork for it and no idea where I was supposed to go or when!
Sorry, long post but I am going through it all again now and its still crap but I know how it (doesn't) work so I feel a bit more confident about negotiating the system and want you first timers not to get as lost / pissed off/ time wasted as I did. Oh and they have no conception of the idea that you might hav a job and commitments and need to have your appointment at the time stated not 3 hours later. (sorry, will stop ranting now)

babyjanie · 06/10/2010 03:11

Please help!!! This is going to sound really silly but I'm really scared something is going wrong! I've lost all my symptoms a few days ago and really worried I'm on the way to micarrying. I haven't bled at all but I read that this can happen and then in a week or so everything gets expelled from your body.

Has anyone else losy symptoms!!! I got myself into a state about it last night and now can't sleep from the worry!! :(

LabMonkey · 06/10/2010 08:01

babyjanie I'm will be 10 weeks on Friday and yesterday is the first day I haven't thrown up at all and then fallen asleep by 20:30. I'm taking this as a good sign. I know that this stuff's meant to last until 12 weeks but then I figure for some it's 16 weeks and some it's 40 so I lucked out with 10. If you're really worried you can call your MW - I think they understand how scary it can be. :)

trixie123 · 06/10/2010 08:40

Babyjanie please don't worry it is not unusual for this to happen but as LabMonkey said, call your midwife if you want reassurance. hope all is fine.

BlingLoving · 06/10/2010 11:28

Babyjanie - I'm sure you're fine. Try to enjoy this time of not feeling sick. How far are you?

does anyone have good snack advice for me? i've worked out the stomach pains flare up when I'm hungry - I just don't realise I'm hungry. Fruit doesn't seem to have an impact, nor nuts. I'm thinking I need protein/carbs. What are convenient snacks I can keep in my desk? I've got some digestive biscuits for the morning commute which work well, but there are only so many digestives a person can eat so I need something different.

Larami - honestly, I think you are me! Grin

LittleMilla · 06/10/2010 11:45

Babyjanie and LabMonkey I am now 10 + 5 and symptoms are starting to ease off. Get the odd sickness day, but I think it helps that I am leanring how to deal with it.

BlingLoving I find that hula hoops at about 11:30 seem to help me to get from breakfast to lunch. Not that healthy I know, but the salty goodness is great! Ha.

I've noticed in the last few days that my lower tummy, sort of above pubs (sorry Blush) has started to push out. I think it's my uterus and I am now starting to get a little bit excited!!

12 week scan is a week on Monday. The count down - aaaaaaaahh!

xx

LifesComplicated · 06/10/2010 13:16

LittleMilla - it's crazy. You and I are due within a day of eachother (I'm 10+6 today) and we both have our 12 week scans on the same day too (a week on Monday) ! AND I totally agree with the Hula Hoops things. Mmmm salty carbs!
It's exciting about your bump starting. Some days I think mine is, and sometimes I think not (so I think mine is prob just wind! Sorry, TMI).

Babyjane - try not to worry. I too have lost all my symptoms (about a week ago) but I think that's just part of the pregnancy progressing. Try to enjoy feeling better.

Hope everyone else is still ok and not feeling too sick. Not long to go now then most people will start feeling lots better.

LittleMilla · 06/10/2010 13:40

Lifescomplicated - ahhh, how exciting! So cool to have someone to compare rather precise notes with!

Keep on trying to show DH the teeny tiny bump and rather than get excited, he simply gets all randy Hmm. Hoping he'll start to mature and stop thinking about exy ALL of the time...but I cannot get rid of him. Think inflated bazookas are party responsible though!

lilly13 · 06/10/2010 14:53

Babyjanie - do not worry! i am 9 weeks and have no symptoms. it is quite normal. if you have no spotting, bleeding or heavy pains, then everything is progressing very smoothly. just relax and enjoy! Smile
