Hi,

I have been searching this topic for sometime now and just wondered in reality what peoples experiences are. During pregnancy gaining weight and after loosing weight.

I am 13weeks and have gained 3lbs which i believe is relatively normal.

I'm 17 weeks and have gained half a stone so far. But I massively overate when I had morning sickness. Just felt so awful and acidy if I wasn't full up. Horrible. I gained too much weight with both babies previously, but it's easy enough to loose afterwards when hormones etc settle down. Try not to worry about it and eat healthily.

japhrimel · 08/09/2010 17:54

I'm 26 weeks and have gained 13lbs so far which is apparently fine.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 08/09/2010 19:20

Am 25 weeks and have gained 7 or 8 kg depending on when in the day I weigh myself.

YummyMummy1208 · 08/09/2010 20:01

im 34 weeks and have gained nearly 2 and a half stone! Although i did the same with my first pregnancy and it all dropped off quickly after so im not worrying too much!

I dont know how other mums can only put on a few pounds half way into pregnancy! how do u do it?!

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 08/09/2010 20:21

I'm 30 weeks and have gained 7 pounds and I don't know how I've done it either. I haven't been a pig or denied myself anything, in fact I would say I am eating as I have always done but with more fruit and veg.

I was overweight to start with though and the doctor kindly told me the baby had enough of my fat to live on so I didn't need to lay down anymore.

Clever baby taking my fat!

wifeofdoom · 08/09/2010 20:26

I gained 4 stone, lost it by 15 months after the birth. DOn't worry too much (but try not to eat as much cake as i did!)Happy pregnancy more important!

Cakemuncher · 08/09/2010 21:10

I am glad to have spotted this thread! I will be 34 weeks tomorrow and I have gained 2 stone. According to books/websites, this is as much as I should gain for my height and pre-pregnancy weight for the entire pregnancy! I am hoping that my scales might not be entirely accurate as on Sunday I was 11st7, 11st2 on Monday and 11st 6 yesterday. How does that work out? I don't generally weigh myself that often though!

To be honest, I don't know where the two stone has gone. My legs are a bit chunkier alright, but my bump is all baby.

smoggii · 08/09/2010 21:42

I had gained 3 st by the 5 month mark! Prior to pregnancy I had been on lighterlife to lose weight to conceive, I had not finished the management programme and had to stop suddenly. Having lost over 10st in the last 2 years i started to get very stressed about the weight gain.

I have (with my midwife's consent) joined Slimming World - not to diet but to try to control my eating, this last month I have had a net loss of 3.5 lbs, which means I have now gained 2 st 10.5lbs in 6 months.

I'm hoping that by the end of my pregnancy I will have stuck around the 3st gain total mark. If I hadn't joined Slimming World and just carried on as I was going i'm sure I would have had a 5st plus weight gain over the pregnancy.

I don't want to stress about it, i've lost it before, i can lose it again, after I've had my beautiful baby girl x

I had terrible morning sickness again and barely ate until I was 16 wks and it started to ease. I started at 9 stone and at my last weigh in at 28 wks I was 10 stone 10lbs and I was the same last time only I went to 8 stone 10 with morning sickness and I remember as soon as it stopped I put a stone on in a month. I dont seem to put it anywhere but my bump though, I've been asked 'how long left?' from 20 weeks and when I say I always get asked is that twins lol.

mamasunshine · 08/09/2010 22:42

This has been a constant worry for me Confused I'm now 21 weeks and have put on 11 lbs, which I think is about average as I was 'normal' bmi pre-pregnacy. Still don't have the energy to do much exercise, and eating pretty healthily most of the time. Have been very worried as I have gained 2 lb's a wk for about 4 wks, but last wk only 1 lb so hopefully slowing down now!

Chynah · 08/09/2010 22:52

I gained 17lbs with #1 and 11 lbs with #2 and both times was back to normal weight within 2-3 weeks (normal BMI). However I did continue to exercise (running) throughout both pregnancies and didn't have morning sickness (which I think helps alot).

looblee · 09/09/2010 09:05

Wow thanks for the replies everyone all so different. Weirdly I put on 7lbs almost immediately after finding out i was pregnant, I think its because I was controlling food and running pre pregnancy, when I slowed down to walking and of course ate a little bit more it piled on but then it levelled out and its just 3lbs gain at 3months still withing in normal bmi. Trying to keep to walking 45mins a day at a brisk pace but some time its all I can do to get through the day Smile

With DS1 put on 4 stone, lost the vast majority within a year (but then put on nearly a stone after a MC immediately after that - eating to prevent nausea followed by comfort eating).

Currently 28 weeks with DS2 and have put on 2.5 stone.

Flossie69 · 09/09/2010 09:27

I was 80 kg when I got pregnant - and remained so throughout my pregnancy!!! Grin

I did joke that this was baby taking what I had already made ready, but I think this was mainly down to going off crisps and chocolate, and not touching a drop of alcohol. So when I had DD, 10 kg dropped off. Now, 3.5 months on I have maintained that weight, though I would like to lose more. I think I have been able to maintain it as my eating and drinking habits changed during pregnancy, and I have kept to it. Also, I have reduced glucose tolerance (precursor to diabetes), after having gestational diabetes.

I had some lovely size 14 clothes which I was looking forward to wearing again after having my baby, but these are all now too big, so have had to go out and buy size 12!! :) Grin

I am 20 weeks today and have put on 1 lb. However my bmi was 32 to start with, I am still being sick and have generally gone off sugary foods.

Panta777 · 09/09/2010 09:59

I am 22 weeks and already put 1.5 stone, well 9 kg and that is so awful!!! I am not eating too much, not touching cakes or alcohol and I am already so huge!! What if I cant loose it after..Confused

dinkystinky · 09/09/2010 10:02

How you put on weight, and how much weight you put on in pregnancy, will differ hugely from person to person as we are all so different. As long as you're eating healthily and appropriate amounts (.i.e. not "eating for 2") and living a healthy active lifestyle, you'll put on the right amount for you in this pregnancy. FWIW, I put on 3.5 stone in first pregnancy (lost it all by the time DS1 was 18 months old) and 3 stone in second pregnancy (again lost all by the time DS2 was 18 months old) - ate healthily and exercised throughout both pregnancies - but I wasnt overweight to start off with.

babynelly2010 · 09/09/2010 10:06

I was 119 lb to begin with and at 18 week appointment I was still 119 lb. I have normal diet with a lot of fruits, no morning sickness. I walk for exercise..

amyboo · 09/09/2010 10:15

I just spied this in the "active" threads, and just thought I'd add, that with DS (born end of March 2010) I put on 17kg! I was 77kg before I got pregnant, 94 kg when I had him by CS at 39 weeks! He was a whopper - mostly due to the fact that for the last 8-10 weeks of my pregnancy I had bad water retention.

Anyhoo, within 3 months I was back to 71kg (6kg lighter than before I got pregnant) - through absolutely no effort of my own. I ate normally and was bf.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't worry about it too much. Everyone is different and as long as you're not using pregnancy as an excuse to "eat for two", whatever weight you put on is entirely normal, and will no doubt disappear after the birth.

yellowflowers · 09/09/2010 10:25

I am overweight and told not to gain much. Had gained 2.5kg by 24 weeks and midwife was very pleased. Lost lots in first trimester though as was throwing up all the time.

PaigeTurner · 09/09/2010 11:17

I'm 23 weeks and have put on just over a stone I think - 5lbs in the last three weeks!

I think most of that is bump and BOOBS - have gone from a DD to a G already....crikey.

Dreemagurl · 09/09/2010 13:55

34 weeks and put on just over 2 stone. Not too happy about it, but I may have been overdoing it on the cake..... Stopped exercising as well which doesn't help. Keep meaning to start again but it's SUCH an effort.... Still - they say fat babies are happy babies! :)

kiwidreamer · 09/09/2010 14:05

I was a little overweight to start with and by end of first tri hadnt put on any weight, found I coudnt eat as much as I normally did so was on 'small and often' meals. By end of pregnancy I had a gain of slightly over one stone and baby was three quarters of that! I lost all the rest and was a stone under my pre preg weight by about 6 weeks post natal but then the boredom eating kicked in and I went back up to pre preg weight which was a bit over weight.

Am currently 6 weeks preg with DC2 and while the scales say no gain my clothes are feeling snug!!!
