How long did it take you to conceive?

Title says it all really! I (and a fair few of my pals) am not one of those, 'Whoospy I fell on a willy and got pregnant by mistake, how embarrassing!' wimmin. When you have been waiting a few months, it does rather feel as if absolutely everyone else gets pregnant by looking at a naked picture of Tom Hardy - but I'm sure that can't be the case.

I've therefore been thinking: you know, perhaps it just does take a while - for evolutionary purposes perhaps, to prevent the planet being over-run. Perhaps it can take a year or so not because there's something wrong, but because them's the breaks.

So to inform and reassure, I'd be really interested to know how long it took you to conceive, your age when you did so, and whether there were any medical factors that you knew of (including, and speaking as a plump lass myself, weight!).

5 years...

Fertility ishoos, though. But 5 years. Was 28 when I got pregnant via fertility treatment - can't be any more specific as it is too identifying. I have PCOS (without it affecting my eggs/cycle) and a slightly obstructed right fallopian tube.

And I counted bitterly ten of my colleagues getting pregnant during this time.

It was not easy.

But dd was very, very worth it Smile

I do have a vague idea about long term fostering / adoption of an older child when dd is older.

Both babies wonderful accidents (although with DS it didn't feel like that at the time!)

DS aged 20, on the pill, but had had antibiotics from dentist. 10stone (5ft7 so healthy BMI)

Bump- due in 9 weeks. Aged 28. After always being incredibly careful, when both drunk we did the pulling out thing (which various friends have done for years and never had had any accidents) and the rest is history! BMI about 29 Blush

I understand how lucky we are, especially as DP thought he was infertile. I had been nagging him to find out, but he didn't want to in case DR confirmed it. So, I had faced the possibility we would never have a child together. But the silly boy had got his knickers in a twist when he was about 18 and was clearly panicking over nothing!

DD (4) - 5 years, 3 operations, 9 months of Clomid, +tive test on last cycle of Clomid just as we were about to say sod this for a game and book a very expensive holiday!

DS (7 months) - 1st cycle of trying. Was a huge surprise, especially as I was waiting to take baseline readings for further fertility treatment!

I was 35 when DD was born and was overweight with a highish BMI. I was in the same state when DS was conceived, only I was 38.

Nemofish · 28/08/2010 22:17

Hey! No-one said we were going to mention operations!

cupofcoffee · 29/08/2010 09:36

Very lucky here.
Dc1 first month.
Dc2 4 months.
Dc3 first month.

'Falling on a willy' OMG can that actually happen Shock (Makes note to self to walk really carefully next time on wet bathroom floor in case there is a willy there when I slip Grin )

Jazmyn · 29/08/2010 09:55

2 weeks, over weight, 30yrs

We decided to start trying straight away rather than waiting to get married first as we werent sure it'd happen straight away.... we were rather surprised!!

DP did put a LOT of effort in though, sex twice a day EVERY day did the trick! :D

mellymooks · 29/08/2010 10:27

DD1 3 months 8st 7, age 30
DS1 2 months 8st 12, age 33

lucielooo · 29/08/2010 10:37

Currently 8 weeks pregnant with my first.. took 9 months from first deciding to ttc but a couple of months we didn't time it right so couldn't have conceived anyway (high bmi)

I've been fairly relaxed about ttc (not sure DP would agree though!) The only time I got really upset was when my best friend at work fell pregnant with a honey-moon baby. So pleased for her but just felt very unfair.. I conceived the same week she told me and our babies (if all goes well) will be a month a part :)

Ineedsomesleep · 29/08/2010 10:40

First pregnancy was on our first night of trying aged 34. Ended at 16 weeks so sadly no DC from this one and due to complications couldn't try again for many months.

Second pregnancy 35 took about 4 months and got DC1 at the end.

Third pregnancy took 7 months I was 37. Ended at 13 weeks and again couldn't try again for nearly a year.

Fourth pregnancy aged 38 took 3 months.

The Wii says my BMI is ideal but DH reckons the Wii lies 'cos it says he is obese Grin

MrsJohnDeere · 29/08/2010 10:45

Ds1 8 years, fertility ishoos on both sides, aged 34, weighed 8 and a half stone.

Ds2 1st month of trying, aged 35, 9 and a half stone.

ladycakes29 · 29/08/2010 11:54

It took me 3 months of trying; 2 months of those were targeted i.e. I found out when I was ovulating so we tried then. It seems to vary amongst my friends with some taking over a year and one taking 5 years. I'm 29 years old.

For me i really think it helped being on holiday, relaxed, cutting back on alcohol and enjoying the sex rather than thinking about pregnancy! Also, I can pinpoint the night we conceived and (sorry to be graphic) but we both climaxed at the same time. I'm really not sure if this helps but I've read that it can give the sperm a helping hand!

One of my friends was trying for a long time to have a baby, she put her succuss down to following a healthy diet that included lots of complex carbs and drinking green tea! (not sure if there is anything in that but thought I'd pass it on!)

Good luck with it.

TotorosOcarina · 29/08/2010 12:10

DS1 : 1st cycle (about 10stone)

DS2 : 2nd cycle (10.5 stone)

DD: 2nd cycle (12 stone)

This pregnancy : 1st cycle (13 stone - oops! Grin )

So very quickly!!

whammie76 · 29/08/2010 19:18

1st pregnancy - 2 months aged 27
2nd pregnancy - 1 month aged 33 (due in 3 wks)

We were extremely lucky to conceive quickly both times, but like others have said relaxation is key and try not to be obsessive. Both times I did lie on my back with legs in the air after IC so maybe that helped! Wink

Goldenbear · 29/08/2010 19:28

DC 1, age 28 - 1 month

Current pregnancy, age 32 - 1 month

ArseHolio · 29/08/2010 19:31

DD was an accident, we'd been reckless for a couple of months and that was that. I was about 8 stone something or other and 24.

Ds took 2.5 years of trying and I was about 11 stone and 28.

Tyson86 · 29/08/2010 19:32

1st = Ds took 2 months

2nd = MC 2 months

3rd = pg with dd now, 34 weeks, 2 weeks after MC.

louisesh · 29/08/2010 20:21

Hi 2 years in total!!!! With 1MMC.1MC and 1CP.Now 35 weeks pg with first DC....Stopped the ocp in Dec 07.I m 39 now, dh 39 also and my BMI was 28 pre pregnancy.

Frst MMC, concieved 8 months of ttc, then 2nd MC occured 1 year later, CP occured 3 months later.Got BFP 6 weeks after CP.All quite a crap experience one way or another....pushed for tests all nad.I think it was a case of bad luck and old age!!!!!! I too have had accunpuncture for the last year don t know if it helps or its the placebo effect!!!! Lost 1 stone before concieving this time for me not fertility reasons though suppose it helped!!!My job has been the same throughout soo no altercation in stress levels.

Really think a lot of it is down to luck!!! You can do all you re suppose to ,swi at exactely the right times and still not concieve!!!! Hope you don t have any problems Smile X

tinky19 · 29/08/2010 23:06

18 months. was angrily waiting for late (irregular) period so that i could start clomid Grin

MigGril · 30/08/2010 00:16

DD - 3 months, age 29
No2 currently 32 weeks - 4 months age 33

I know we where lucky as my sister took 5 years and two rounds of failed IVF, then she fell PG natrualy about 2 months after being told she'd never have children. She's also PG with seconed at the moment about 3 weeks ahead of me.

The only thing I would say is if it hadn't have been so easy we wounldn't have any as I have very bad migraines and have to come off all medication in oeder to try. If it hadn't have happened this time round at 4 months I was just about ready to give in as was strugaling to look after DD.

YanknCock · 30/08/2010 01:47

1st pregnancy - age 32, had tried for 1 year with polycystic ovaries and BMI of 40ish. Had a MC at 7 weeks.

2nd pregnancy - age 32, got pregnant 2.5 months after the miscarriage.

DS is now a year old and I'm wondering what will happen if we try again.

CheerfulYank · 30/08/2010 02:00

Also sort of just fell on a penis...DS was born 9 months and four days after our wedding. And he was four days past his due date :)

StiffyByng · 31/08/2010 12:20

We took 6 months to conceive but as I'm only 5 weeks pregnant, I'm holding my breath still.

I'm 33 and have a BMI to match, which I've been trying without success to bring down for a year now.

pinkpeony · 31/08/2010 14:19

1st pregnancy - 2 months, age 34, ended with mmc at 8 weeks.
2nd pregnancy - 1 year after mmc (no medical reason), conceived at 35, born at 36.
3rd pregnancy (am now 19 weeks) - 1 week, conceived at 37 when DS 11 mths, will be 38 when due. Think I was definitely more fertile following DS's birth!
BMI around 19.5 for all pregnancies (3 in 3 years!).

Rockbird · 31/08/2010 14:27

1st pg - 1 month, BMI over 40
This time, 3 months so far and nothing. Trying not to panic or blame BMI as it was so easy last time but...

Casserole · 31/08/2010 15:30

1st pg - 3 months
2nd pg - 14 months

Overweight for both but a stone lighter second time round.
