As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

Morning all. Still pregnant, still no idea how pregnant. I saw the midwife yesterday who wasn't a bundle of help - we concluded I could be anything between 5 and 8 weeks pregnant.

Hmmmmmm.

So she has sent paperwork off to hospital stressing need for 'early' dating scan, and I have to ring next week and chase it up. Bit of a pain, really, since I want to know dates so I can book a nuchal fold scan. I'm very of those of you who have had lovely 20 weeks scans to watch (mentioning no names, SLINK )

I enjoyed the BF programme last night, although I only got to see half of it as a friend rang. Each to their own, I must say, and I thought all the women featured sounded perfectly sensible, but by the time my kids are two, I'm afraid I just wouldn't have the patience to be comfort feeding them, when a cuddle and a kiss would probably do the job just as well. In fact, I wonder whether creating so strong a link between food and destressing/comfort isn't likely to predispose the kids to eating problems down the line?

mrsmaddyd · 02/02/2006 10:18

oooh Gizmo thats a really good point. I didnt think of that but i think there is something in that.

I thought the lady with the twins was so strong with weaning them off immediatly and they both went straight for hugs instead for thier comfort so they were eating for comfort before.

Was a bit worried how some of the mums insinuated that only kids that are breastfed are brainey

cori · 02/02/2006 10:37

I saw the programe too. Shocked at the 8 year old girl. I think there probably should be an investigation into that. What possible reason could there be to justify that. Imagine if it was boy she was breastfeeding.
Apparently around the world the average age of weaning is 3 years, so is not considered prolonged. I only lasted 2.6 months with DS. Because i really didnt know what I was doing. I hope to do better this time.

The mums actually said that her two girls were obssessed with breasts. They drew pictures about them fro gods sake. if that had been a boy drawing boobies then it would have been looked at differently.

Moving on later that evening there was a programme on about the biggest willy in the world Did anyone see that

FirstNikki · 02/02/2006 12:13

yes mrsmaddyd I think its penis week lol they had the perfect penis on monday that I watched which was interesting how some men are so obssessed in getting theirs made bigger some so that that the penis becomes unfunctional (one in particular...tmi coming up... had 24 inch circ balls and he penis wasn't much smaller )

diddle · 02/02/2006 12:33

Mrs Maddyd - Lottie has been better, she is having problems with her pelvis, and has got a support belt to wear and cruches to support her when walking, she is is agony a lot fo the time, but baby is ok. she's back on Mn too.

FirstNikki · 02/02/2006 13:05

can anyone help...are we safe to take vitamin c effervescent whilst pg??

FirstNikki · 02/02/2006 15:29

ok sorry for my last post on vit c....how thick am I today I have just been told why not take them and I look on the package and I have over reacted...theres not much in them and now I feel very stupid...sorry....

on another note I have today purchased a doppler online so I will be able to give that a whirl in a few weeks. just feel it will reassure me a little along the way if I can hear the heart.

diddle · 03/02/2006 08:22

Nikki - sorry i missed your question on Vit C.
Fab news about the doppler, you'll love it!! They're addictive for the first few weeks, i was doppling a few times a day but it soon wears off and is a great source of support when you've got a back ache or pain.
Does yours give you the digital reading of the HB or will you need to count?

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 09:34

hi diddle, its not got a digital reading but the sound should be enough I am hoping. Dh wasn't overly impressed at my purchased mainly due to cost (I am a bit of a spender) until I told him why and I told him that we may not be able to hear it all the time if baby is hiding, but at least it brings a little reassurance and he and the skids can listen so that they are included in the pregnancy.

diddle · 03/02/2006 11:54

I think thats a lovely idea nikki - he'll love it once he hears that heartbeat. how far along are you now??

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 12:01

6 weeks today so only a few weeks until I can try and listen. got mw on mon 13th so the ball is rolling so to speak...

all this secrecy and job change is making be paranoid though so not enjoying that bit hope it settles down soon. going to have to advice new bosses I am pg cos can't have holiday for mw so need to advise that this is mw apt...not what wanted to do but have no option.

diddle · 03/02/2006 12:40

Nikki - it will be worth it, just to get the time off for the appointments and have a stress free work life.

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 12:45

I know but at the moment its a bit tricky I could be in line for alot more responsibility in deed (which I want) and worried that my pg will effect their decision, its all up in the air at the moment though and I am a worrier. really want to tell them though cos I am an honest girl and wouldn't be able to withold on pg info even if it could jeopardise my possible next position. think my hormones are playing me up too and making me tearful and emotional..gosh I sound crap today.. sorry x

Arabica · 03/02/2006 12:51

Hi everyone, I had a serious curry craving last night and am paying for it today--had to dash home after taking DS to school! Must be all the oil.
Am trying to keep positive re the pregnancy but it's hard to trust everything is OK. Still got v sore boobs although nausea all but disappeared. Can't wait to feel some kicks.

slinkstah · 03/02/2006 13:01

Hi everyone
just had my appointment and it was uneventful for the first time, so nothing much to report all is well

ooh other than got results from afp and my age related risk is 1-1100 and my actual risk is 1-11000
so thats great.

anyway looks like i missed out on alot of chatter yesterday, i saw the B/F programme, i asked my 8 year old if he wanted some milk from mummys boobs and he almost threw up lol

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 13:06

arabica hope your curry effects don't last too long...but did you enjoy your curry most importantly they are lovely..yum

slink glad all is well and lol at your question to dd

Arabica · 03/02/2006 13:46

Oh yes, I did enjoy my curry! Worth each and every of my three dashes to the loo so far

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 13:57

wow that good hey ...hope it eases soon perhaps bubba doesn't like them though?

Arabica · 03/02/2006 17:10

DH had to do a frantic loo dash as well! So luckily bubba unlikely to have affected things. Had a really boring day though, had to stay home doing nothing--didn't want to venture too far from my loo!

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 17:17

oh poor you arabica at least dh can partially understand hey. but you should be feeling better soon (I do hope) and they you can venture out. thats the thing with a good curry though you enjoy it then the next day you begin to regret it a little.

Arabica · 03/02/2006 17:28

Cori, just wondering how your DS is? Send him my love.

cori · 03/02/2006 20:51

I took DS to the paediatrician. We are still no closer to having any answers. The Doctor believes that there is nothing seriously wrong with him, and that it is not uncommon for children to go through bouts of recurrent abdominal pain. He said as the pain has not intensified at all, and that it comes and goes it is probably more to do with the function of his bowel, but is not organic in nature. He has suggested a high fibre diet, and not to give him milk. I am going back to see him in one month for a follow up. I am not completely satisfied with the response, but of course, I am pleased that it does not look like anything serious. I am going to have a look into allergy testing I think. Will also start giving him probiotics, as they cannot do any harm.

Cori,
Sorry about ds. Don't know all the ins and outs of your ds but my dd was recently hospitalised with chronic constipation with overflow and feacal impaction. This despite 7 different visits to GP since October. Paeds tell me that GPs routinely misdiagnose/miss this type of problem. Dunno if my experience is at all relevant but if I can pass on any more info please let me know

cori · 04/02/2006 07:37

Thanks spub, DS was Xrayed on Thursday and we were told he definetly wasntt constipated.

Another night of pregnancy insomnia, I woke up at 5.30 this morning- the rest of the house is still asleep. On wednesday I woke up at 3.30 and I had to go to work that day too.
