As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

... or maybe they are leaving me until I am passed the prev mc mark..

HellKat · 27/01/2006 16:14

You could try ringing them hun. I went straight through to the mw and had to wait a few weeks for an appt (mine's the 6th Feb) Always worth a try.

FirstNikki · 27/01/2006 16:27

yeah, think will if not heard in couple of days mw day is thursdays at our drs so maybe there could be a slim chance of a voice mail when I get home.. hoping

FirstNikki · 27/01/2006 16:59

HellKat · 27/01/2006 17:04

Lol that's nowt compared to me when I get munchies! But today (apart from big bar of choc) I've done really well. Could'nt face dinner though (still full from choc ) so ds2 and I pigged a load of grapes!

FirstNikki · 27/01/2006 17:11

lol.. yes must say I don't particularly fancy dinner at the moment...those yorkies are huge

HellKat · 27/01/2006 17:13

Yep he he. I had big bar of Lidl's choc! Yum

Arabica · 27/01/2006 17:40

Morning all,
Guys, need your advice here. I've been feeling lousy the last 2 days and I've put it down to the iron tablets I started last week. If you remember, the Dr said that my iron levels were fine (I thought they weren't and in my other pgs, my iron levels have dropped about this time before the m/w does her usual blood test at 28wks) but he said it helped to have some iron tablets "in the system" as he put it. So I've had something like a tummy upset the last 2 days and I read the leaflet that came with the tablets, and it says that signs of an iron overdose are the tummy upset symptoms I've been having. So I'm wondering whether to come off them all together or just take 1 every other day. After all, I don't actually need them as I'm not anaemic (well not yet anyway!)
What do you think? Hope everyone's doing OK.

HellKat · 28/01/2006 10:04

Hiya hun,
I'd go with your gut instinct. If you're not anaemic, then I would'nt bother taking them. After suffering from heavy bleeding since I was 11, I've always found that lots of red meat, broccoli, greens etc has always helped and the best one is liver but unfortunately not when you're pg. When I was pg with ds1, they liked to over-prescribe iron tablets and I did'nt bother. If you're very anaemic then they're fab but if not then tbh all they do is make you constipated lol.

FirstNikki · 28/01/2006 10:04

Pet if your tummy is upset with them I would come off them and wait until you need them. Or as you said try every other day.

Hope your tummy clears up x

kreamkrackers · 28/01/2006 10:09

petunia - how much iron is in those tablets? pregnacare do tablets with 17mg in it (about 120%rda) and if you had foods high in iron would that be enough? overdosing on iron is very dangerous. sorry to say it like that but i would come off those tablets if you feel like that.

petunia · 28/01/2006 10:33

Thanks everyone, knew I could rely on you! These tablets are Pregaday so are mostly iron with a bit of Folic Acid thrown in as well. I took them when I had low iron levels with DDs and never had a problem with them, but then I was anaemic then. I guess my diet is healthier now than before!

I think I'll probably come off the tablets. I'm seeing my m/w on the 9th Feb when she would have done the iron-level blood test anyway so I'll perhaps get her to do another one. I might see if I can start having monthly visits after that so we can keep a eye on my levels. Tum feels a little better today.

HellKat · 28/01/2006 10:42

Good to hear hun, glad you're feeling better!

trix1 · 28/01/2006 11:07

Petunia - I found I felt the same with Pregaday and Iron tablets in general, although if I took them with my dinner they did not make me feel as bad but if taken on an empty stomach I would be sick for hours.

petunia · 28/01/2006 12:32

Hellkat- meant to ask how you're feeling today.

HellKat · 28/01/2006 16:33

Im feeling great ta hun. Well as good as I can be lol. Still feeling so wiped out but apart from that absolutely great. At least now I know why I've been so knackered, coupled with normal pg tiredness, I'm having huge long af's lol. Bump's huge, won't be able to keep it quiet for long.

slinkstah · 28/01/2006 17:12

hello everyone, how are you all?
petunia i think you should come off the iron, or maybe lessen it. pregnacare has loads of iron in it. i found in my last pregnancy that i couldn't take it as it made me very very constipated. your midwife will be seeing you every fortnight soon won't she? is it 28 weeks that you get seen every fortnight and then 36 weeks you get seen weekly?
anyway hun hope your feeling ok

hellkat- looks like your in for a restful pregnancy im so glad you now know what is causing the bleeding and that you know baby is fine.

i am extremely paranoid that i will not make it to my "hurdle/milestone" but am spending alot of time on my back resting - off my cervix. 4 weeks to go, 5 weeks to get past it to 24 weeks viable- seems to be coming up quickly.

kreamkrackers · 28/01/2006 18:03

hi i'm now 5+6 and i'm getting bad sharp pains in my stomach. it seemed to be when i was standing up after sitting down it would strike but now it seems to be happening even whilst i'm sat down. i spotted a bit of blood this morning when i wiped. i feel really rough and don't know how i can go on at the moment and i'm scared my body is starting to think the same. i had a mc at 10 weeks and i'm really scared that it is going to happen again. i know i should probably phone the epu but i'm scared and last time was made to go in and sit around for four hours only to be told to come back in a few days time for a scan (which confirmed a mc). the bleeding hasn't carried on though but i'm not sure whether these pains are normal or me just being paranoid. i feel so tired and can't function properly at the moment. i'm so scared but i think it's more to do with tiredness. sorry for rambling on a bit but my heads all over the place. what do you think i should do?

slinkstah · 28/01/2006 18:43

i think you should phone the epu KK, they will not fob you off like last time as you have had a previous mc, at least it will put your mind at rest. i think they would have to see you straight away too because they would have to rule out eptopic.
you sound pretty tired and run down hun you should rest

slinkstah · 28/01/2006 18:44

pains sound like wind etc as they are sharp. so don't stress too much. go get checked out anyway

kreamkrackers · 28/01/2006 18:44

i was adviced on due in sept thread to phone hospital. they seemed very worried and asked for me to come in tonight but i wouldn't be scanned or come in first thing in the morning were they might be able to. this just feels so unreal. i'm so scared. i suppose there's nothing i can do though if it's going to happen it's going to happen. i know i always tell everyone to relax but i'm a worrier and i can't relax.

kreamkrackers · 28/01/2006 18:47

thank you for that, i hope you're right. i have been burping a lot lately so perhaps you're right.
