As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

cori- yeah we should meetup one day when you are on maternity leave. hope you ahve a nice time in NY

Firstnikki, thats great an october baby have you started an october thread yet?

connyflower- hi im sure the scan will be ok. good luck for it, is it today?

diddle- we are due in 5 months, weeks do seem to be flying by- although am coming up to the dreaded 22/23/24 weeks, if/when i get passed that hurdle i will really start looking more to the future. I can't wait until i can let myself look for baby stuff online have you started choosing what buggy/cot etc

I got my marks for that seminar/presenation i did the other day- i got 50% so i am GUTTED!!! i thought it would be at least 60%
anyways tommorrow is my last physical day in university (i have 1 more week to complete 2 assignments) everyone will be expecting me to return in february for another 15 week slog of a term, i have not told the uni/friends/tutors that i am up the duff and leaving. I am so scared of there responses as i know it will be awkward and weird and i'll feel almost embarressed to have got pregnant again!! shall i tell people face to face tommorrow or shall i just not go back and tell the admin people next week over phone, and email my tutor and friends?
so any advice from all the wise ole mummys on here would be great

FirstNikki · 23/01/2006 15:05

Slink - Oct thread started on friday by 3kids there's the 2 of us and one possiblity at the moment but its very early days for the oct thread. I am sure you will sail the next few weeks.

Why would you be embarrased about not going back to uni?

slinkstah · 23/01/2006 15:33

am embarressed to tell people at uni i am pregnant, i don't know what reaction i will get. I am not going to return for my final semester and i hope to finish next year instead. If i tell people face to face they will certainly be shocked as i have kept it secret for so long, my bump has expanded very recently and i have to hold belly in now or put my bag infront of me lol

diddle · 23/01/2006 15:39

slink - I can't believe its all flying by. Yes I have started looking, but i am being extra cautious and won't let us buy anything until after 24 weeks, partly because of what you went through and because i know that after that time the pregnancy is classed as viable and if anything happens the hospital will try and do something. everyone thinks i'm mad, but i know i'm just over-educated about this miscarriage lark.

I have been doing an open univeristy course and recently had the results back for the final examination piece and got a fail, so will have to resubmit it int he next 6 months i think. so i was not impressed either, but i'm blaming it on the stressful year we had last year, maybe you shoudl do the same slink

FirstNikki · 23/01/2006 16:07

don't be embarrased slink, tell them however you feel comfortable, I am sure your friends will be happy for you. If you get on with the well and on a personal level tell them face to face, but you have some good news and should be proud. Will the college/uni allow you to just complete the last term at a later date? They might surprise you and be very supportive.

Slink & Diddle don't be too hard on yourselves about your courses.

diddle · 23/01/2006 16:24

thanks nikki, i- i was really dissapointed with msyelf when i got myf ail, i'd handed coursework in that i had done while miscarrying and that passed, so felt like i was a failure when the last piece was only just done and I was much calmer.
Oh well, mayeb i rushed it, will try better next time

FirstNikki · 23/01/2006 16:30

did they give you any feedback so that you can work on certain points? you will pass it in good time I am sure x

slinkstah · 23/01/2006 18:11

diddle- exams are so difficult anyway hun especially when you've had other things to think about, i never perform well in exams as i have no memory lol
when i get my feedback i will be interested to know why it was so rubbish when i worked so hard on it.

FN- i should return to uni in sep hopefully to finish my final modules. its at the LEA's discretion whether they will pay my fee's for another year so i am going to keep 500 squids aside just in case.

i have another presentation to do tommorrrow, which means another late night for me 1 more week and ill be free!!!! i have been planning what i am gonna do when i have not much to do

connyflower · 23/01/2006 18:38

yay just had scan all ok i'm not 12+2 though im 11+1 everything went fine and he was happily dancing around in there so so relieved x

Arabica · 23/01/2006 19:11

Well done connyflower! Now you can start to enjoy your pregnancy. I'm still anxious but have at least started to buy maternity clothes--I wouldn't allow myself to get anything but a bra until I'd had the 12 wk scan.

kreamkrackers · 23/01/2006 19:21

well done connyflower. i can't wait to have my scan to put my mind at ease. i'm only 5 weeks but seeing mv on 13 feb so hope she might try to get a scan sorted as soon as once she's seen me. does anybody know where to buy a doppler from? how much they cost? and also how early they detect heartbeat?

petunia · 23/01/2006 19:51

Kreamkrackers- I think a few people here have got Dopplers off Ebay. I haven't got one but think someone got one for £36 2nd hand, and new they're about £80-£100. Not sure the earliest they can detect a h/b.

Welcome to connyflower. Glad your scan went well. You had a dancing baby too?!

Slinkstah- good luck with your presentation tomorrow.

slinkstah · 23/01/2006 19:58

connyflower- excellent news about your scan

KK- you can get dopplers from ebay, the one i have was £35 but does not have a readout display. they usually range from 60-80 quid. they can detect a heartbeat from as early as 9 weeks although this may not be possible for everyone, due to how far up uterus is and how much fat there is on mums tum. It can be very reassuring though and get you through those weeks until you feel the baby moveing

diddle · 24/01/2006 07:20

connyflower - so glad your scan went well, I have a doppler. It was from Ebay too, i did look around but the cheapest ones were on there, mine was £80, it has got a digital read out screen although thats not always reliable.
I use it every night before bed, and it is hugely reassuring, i didn't get it until about 10 weeks i think, and could detect the heartbeat the majority f the time. Slink is right though it does depend greatly on how high your uterus is.

Slink - how you doing, you expanding much yet?

FirstNikki · 24/01/2006 10:01

connyflower so pleased you went for your scan and what lovely news too about your dancing baby.

Slink have you decided how you will tell your uni staff and friends? good luck with presentation today.

hello to all and have a lovely day.

HellKat · 24/01/2006 10:03

Morning all.
Yep back again. Not sure how long for but here's hoping it's the duration!
Hope everyone's well!

FirstNikki · 24/01/2006 10:10

keep feeling positive hk and enjoy your pg

kreamkrackers · 24/01/2006 11:44

just bought a doppler from mybump.com. it cost £106 and now i will have to explain to dp the reasons for buying this. i had to get it though, i know i'm going to worry throughout being pg as i am so desperate to have another baby. if it helps me to sleep better than it's worth the money and i'll probably sell it once i've finished using it. hopefully dp will understand.

diddle · 24/01/2006 14:58

welcome back Hk - you'll be here for a good 40 wks

KK - i'm sure you're other half will see the need for it especially when he gets to hear baby. don't get too disheartened when you don't find the heartbeat first time. we're hear fi you need advice on it

FirstNikki · 24/01/2006 16:18

HK - just noticed your post on sept thread, its nice to see you in good spirits again.

HellKat · 24/01/2006 16:41

Thankyou hun, trying to stay positive.
I cancelled the scan & the op for tomorrow. Had amazing news too. The consultant that was doing the op wants to keep an eye on my throughout my pg aswell and then plan for another laproscopy after it's born, but the great news is, he's the specialist in treating SPD! I've felt a few twinges of it so hopefully he'll see me soon. Got a new scan booked for the 10th Feb (will be 9wks), don't want another any sooner because last time it died at 8 wks. Setting little milestones here . Got mw on the 6th too!

6+5 ohhhhh seems weird typing that lol

FirstNikki · 24/01/2006 16:55

that is great news hk, having the consultant interested in you and wanting to watch your progress...good news all round.. understand about your milestones too x

Arabica · 24/01/2006 19:19

Congratulations HellKat, September is a vg time to have a baby (am a September person myself!)

slinkstah · 24/01/2006 19:29

phew tis over - my last day at uni, 2 more assignments to hand in but they're handed in online

diddle- am starting to show finally, still in me normal jeans though.

FirstNikki- i chickened out of telling my friends and tutor at uni- i am dumb, so scared of negative reactions, will have to email them now like a chicken.

HELLKAT- am so pleased to see you back, i have a good feeling thats great news about the consultant looking after you. how is bleeding and pain? has it settled? I am doing small milestones too

KK- DP will understand about you buying a doppler, if he doesn't, tell him all the pg women on mumsnet have one

thanks for the good lucks for my presentation- it went well and tutor gave me provisional marks of between 70-79% which is a 1st!!! also got marks from a previous assignment which was a 1st too so am rather chuffed this evening

well i am 18.5 and feeling well!! am fast approaching the "HURDLE" every contraction i get is panicing me although i have these progesterone pessarys to try out tonight, have not took them the last few days as heard they might make you sedated which would have effected my assignment have also heard they make your boobs grow- as a small B cup i am pleased about this

HellKat · 25/01/2006 06:26
