As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

thank you all for your good luck messages.

Slink nope, not gonna find out the sex, no no no. They better not tell us. Hope they ask, or don't say well erm she's/he's looking very well. i will have to question them about it then.

petunia · 18/01/2006 14:12

Arabica- that's great news about your scan.
Diddle- when I had my 20wk scan, the scan lady kept referring to the baby as "it" but she did slip in a "he" once. I didn't want to know the sex anyway, but now it's got me wondering!

cori · 18/01/2006 18:15

Hi, yes had my appointment today everything is fine. Am 25 weeks tomorrow. Consultant as booked me in for a scan at 28 weeks to make sure baby is still growing well.
I am off to New York next week so I am glad todays appointment was a relief.

Arabica, glad your scan went well. I didnt make it to GG this week, but we should meet up again before this baby is born - email still not working.

Cori- excellent news about your scan. 15wks to go for both of us (though are you still having a C.S a few weeks early?)

cori · 18/01/2006 19:44

dont know about that now, am going to try for VBAC.SO will probably be late...

slinkstah · 18/01/2006 19:48

petunia- those flapjacks sound heavenly, will have to send dp to sainsburys tommorrow

arabica- congratulations for getting to 12 week and thats great news about you not needed cvs.

cori - great news about your scan and have a good time in newyork

when i had my scan the dr kept saying she and then we found out it was a boy, i really think they just meaninglessly say either he/she or it, and they always ask if you want to know before they tell you, so don't worry diddle

18 weeks tommorrow still 6 weeks until "hurdle" though
is there anyone else on this thread that still has to get through their hurdle? i think i have been left behind --sniff sniff boohoo

slinkstah · 18/01/2006 19:52

cori- i had a vbac, the recovery time is alot less. labour was dramatically shorter than 1st time around too. ds labour 2/3 days agony before 3cm dialated ended with emergency cs! dd's labour i was 6cm before i even noticed i was in labour it was 5 hours and only 1 hour of pain

cori · 18/01/2006 20:44

Thats good to hear Slinkstah.
About the labour before the c-section- were you induced? Do you know what position the baby was in. Anterior or posterior?

By the way, you are sounding so much more positive and happy, are you going to this meet up on Saturday?

OP posts:
slinkstah · 18/01/2006 22:27

ds was breech and at that time about 8 years ago, turning baby in womb was dangerous, so nothing was tryed to turn him. i went into labour naturally. i think the long labour was due to being the first one and having such a tight cervix- nowadays it flys open at every oportunity lol
were you induced with your last ds?

i am happier since i found out my cervix is 36mm, am hopefully going for a NHS cervix scan on friday although am worried they will turn me away again
i am coming to the meet although i have a uni deadline on sunday, a report 2000 words-yuk i have a presentation as well on the monday so will be a tad stressed and might not be able to stay and party the night away. haven't had time to even think of what to wear yet, doh will end up running there looking scruffy if im not careful

cori · 19/01/2006 12:39

Cool, see you there. I wont be staying too long myself. We are off to NY on Monday and I have to pack.

Hello hello hello,

Had my scan today, baby is fine, was a fast scan though we didn't get to stare lovingly at baby for long i was not impressed with them at all.
We weren't asked or told anything about the sex of the baby, which annoyed me. We didn't have the option, not that i want to know.

Can't believe i am 20 weeks today, baby keeps kicking me, got an ache in my side now.

Slink and Cori - i'll see you saturday too!!! looking forward to it.

kreamkrackers · 19/01/2006 16:01

diddle - just read your post. make a complaint if you aren't happy. i wasn't with dd's 20 week scan as i felt it was very rushed. at birth they noticed a heart murmour. then at three days old we rushed her back into hospital (a different hospital as the one i gave birth in wasn't our nearest) as she was seriously ill. she went into shock and was in multiple organ failure. when they checked her over she had a massive cardiac abnormality. she looked healthy at birth cos of a duct in the heart which every baby has was bypassing the blood through this. however at three days old this closed and we almost lost our dd. she has had a unique operation done on her heart to stop her going on the transplant list. anyways she's doing well now and i'm sorry to scare you but if you're not happy with the scan you should have another one done, i regret not doing anything about it, but my stupid attitude was saying "what's the likelyhood that there will be something wrong with my baby?" oh how i regret that. i really don't mean to scare you but when i read that post i just had to warn you what happened to us.

diddle · 19/01/2006 16:13

thanks kreamkrackers, she was very thorough with her part of the scan luckily, i felt she spent enough time doing that, but not enough showing us. So pleased your dd is ok now. As if a new baby isn't worrying enough.

cori · 19/01/2006 16:21

I thought my 20 week scan was over a bit too quickly as well. There is such a build up to the 20 week scan and it is such an important one. They get a bit blaze about it these sonographers.

I have another ascan at 28 weeks though. But just to check for growth.

slinkstah · 19/01/2006 16:37

diddle- aw bummer about your scan being rushed, glad everything was ok with baby. i reckon you should save some pennies and have a nice 3d private scan done in a few weeks. if all goes well with this pg i will be doing that

i am still not in maternity jeans when oh when will i look pg???
i have my cervical scan tommorrow, am really hoping they don't send me away again.

diddle · 19/01/2006 17:47

slinkstah - your scan will be fine, they WILL be co-operative and send you away happy.

I booked the 3d scan today, really looking forward to it.

slinkstah · 19/01/2006 22:47

they give you a dvd at private scans don't they- how cool! i would love to show my dd and ds what they looked like in the womb, they love hearing storys about when they were inside mummys tummy and the birth.
it is definatly something i will do for this pg.

pepperpots · 19/01/2006 22:51

quick hijack girls
Diddle fab news that scan went well although at them for rushing you
Slink and rest of the ladies wishing you all the best for the rest of your pg lots of rest and choc
C xx

Hi all

Hope you don't mind me posting a question on your thread. I had a missed miscarriage last year for which I underwent an ERPC. My period returned a month later but the periods after that have been irregular and at times very long, lasting 2 weeks with a break for a week and then returning. Anyone experienced that? I do want to TTC but am worried about miscarrying again. Has anyone had a similar experience then gone on to have a successful pregnancy? THANKS

diddle · 20/01/2006 08:30

pepperpots - thank you very much mate, hope you're doing alright x x x

chickenrice - yes my periods were irregular-ish, not majorly, but i have heard of lots of people gone through the same, and i am now 20 wks. give your body some time, it will happen, your body will need a good clear out.

Bella23 · 20/01/2006 08:49

Chickenrice - I had the same as you, m/c followed by ERPC.
I started to go to acupuncture to regulate my periods as was worried that they weren't the same as before the m/c

Bella23 · 20/01/2006 08:50

Sorry should have added that it really worked and after a couple of months they were back to clockwork

chickenrice · 20/01/2006 11:44

Thanks Diddle and Bella23,

Did your periods last 2 weeks because mine just seem really long. They stop for a week, then restart a week later. Did you have any tests or scans? Could you conceive while they were like that? I am so worried about miscarrying again. Haven't considered acupuncture; not sure about it as I am petrified of needles.

Anyone else?

slinkstah · 20/01/2006 14:24

my appointment went ggrrreeeaat! i went to the fetal med centre and they scanned me with no fuss, they said my cervix is 32-34mm which is a little shorter than the private scan i had said but could be due to the machine. still its a good length to have.
i then saw the fantastic professor lesley regan, she has given me some progestorone suppositories to stop my contractions, she said its not completely proven it works but it should do and they won't do any harm and so i can give them a go- she seems so happy to treat me on individual merit rather than as a statistic and follow hospital policy etc. the prof was on tv last night on horizon on bbc, it was all about mc and stuff.
if i do go into labour, i will be happy to have her in control of the situation. anyway i go back in 2 weeks for another cervical scan, have 20 week scan in 2 weeks too

bought my first pregnancy item - BIG pants!! lol over bump pants are best for me as my cesearean scar is numb and anything that rubs on the area is uncomfortable. i look far from sexy! nevermind

chickenrice- go for the acupunture and take evening primrose and starflower too. most women do go on to have a baby after they have mc although you are bound to be worried, the ttc after mc thread is full of great people who can give you support when you feel ready to ttc

diddle, got ya pic, you are gorgous!! will send a pic of me later- will have to find one that doesn't make me look too odd.

Arabica · 20/01/2006 15:02

Fantastic Slinkstah! So pleased it went well, and you also got to see the lovely Lesley R. Her book about miscarriage was such a comfort to me last year.
