As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

Slink, I'm going to the Fetal Medicine Centre, I remember my doctor mentioning them, I hope they're as nice as your one!

petunia · 12/01/2006 14:37

Been to midwife and had blood taken to check iron levels. I was a bit disappointed though because when it came to listening to the heartbeat, it was really faint. Don't know whether it was the baby being in a funny position. Still at least everything else is OK.

slinkstah · 12/01/2006 14:53

the fetal med centre was in the same building as the birth company, was at the top end of harley street nr regents park tube. hope everything goes well, let us know later

petunia- my babys hb was realy light and distant when the consultant dopplered me last time. i think its down to bad positioning of the doppler. with my home doppler i can pick up light heartbeats from alot of my tummy and a very loud one from where the baby is at that time, sometimes i must be directly on babys back as can hear bop bop bop (like an ear to the chest hb) rather than a whoosh whoosh whoosh)
the other day though baby was hiding around my back area and could only pick up a very faint hb, i assumed baby was in back area because of the unusual back pain that day

petunia · 12/01/2006 16:50

I thought it might be down to bad positioning of the Doppler and was hoping that the midwife would try somewhere else but she only listened to this faint h/b for a few seconds, and said "it's there in the background!" It was all a bit rushed. She wasn't my usual midwife anyway so hopefully it'll be one of the usual ones when I have to go again in 4wks time.

slinkstah · 13/01/2006 12:51

OMG you are not going to beleive this- dp arrange to speak to a dr about the trial i have been put on which is giving me no monitoring etc and to discuss it all etc

that appointment was this morning and a really nice midwife took blood for the hepc repeat test and the afp too and she is going to call me with the results.

then i saw the consultant who was lovely and we discussed my care and monitoring of cervix and she agreed that i should be having some form of monitoring this pg, she did want me to have a suture in cervix electively but i decided not to and go with the monitoring first. she made an appointment to have a cervix scan! and took me off the trial.

can't quite believe how nice they were, am shocked. so it looks like i am to have some cervical scans this pg and what i was told last week has all been overturned by a really nice consultant

petunia · 13/01/2006 12:56

That's wonderful, Slinkstah. I'm so pleased you're going to get the care you need.

diddle · 13/01/2006 13:08

Oh Slink - that is absolutely fabulous, looks like things are finally becoming more positive. i'm thrilled for you.

cori · 13/01/2006 14:20

Thats great news. Just goes to show you what complaining to right people can do?

Arabica, are you out there? Just wondering how you are doing.

Has anyone read todays metro (those of you that live in london)

there is an article in there about preterm labour and treatment with antibiotics, it says treatment with metronidazole causes preterm delivery in 62% of women!!!!

thats what i had when i was in labour, they pumped me full of the stuff. i dunno what to feel.

kinda sad if they didn't know until recently and kinda angry as they probably did know as research takes time.

well what an up and down day

cori · 13/01/2006 15:10

wow, so what they were using to treat your 'infection' actually made your labour progress?

Will get DH to bring Metro home.

slink that is shocking, how awful. I am getting more and more conerned about the hospital being incompetent if anything goes wrong. fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

cori · 13/01/2006 16:27

Yes me too. Especially as am hoping for a VBAC, I am worried about not being monitored properly because the hospital is overbooked. Even though I am getting good care, I know they are overbooked because no one wants to go to my local hospital , Northwick Park (because it has the worst maternity unit in the country).

Diddle, how many weeks are you now? have you had your 20 week scan yet?

OP posts:
slinkstah · 13/01/2006 17:57

please don't worry about your care in hospital, i sure it will be fine. it was probably hospital policy to give antibiotics in preterm labour, and the research was probably recent research, and i expect the drs at my last hospital did not know about it.

and.... some more crazy news on this very strange friday 13th

the community midwifes rang me and said that i am on their system to be booked in later with them for a homebirth!!!! they said that even though ive had a cs it should be no problem and that i am to get over this high risk period under the care of the consultant and then transfer after 24 weeks to their care.

wow! am over the moon and think that my care will be fine!

when is your 20 week scan diddle?

kreamkrackers · 14/01/2006 09:35

hi everybody, well it looks like it's time for me to join this thread. i had a miscarriage last june and i found out yesterday i'm pregnant
when i had the miscarriage i was testing every other day from about a week before af was due until a week later. when it finally showed a + it was still very faint. so i'm hoping it's a good sign that i found out before af was due. i had the miscarriage at only 10 weeks but it still really hurt me at the time.

oh and by the way, i already have 1 child, a dd who's now 20 months.

cori · 15/01/2006 20:02

Congratulations Kremekrackers. How many weeks do you think you are.
The first weeks are definetly the hardest, usually until you past the point of the last miscarriage. I am 24 weeks pregnant now so am over my major hurdle, doesnt stop me from worrying everyday though.

kreamkrackers · 15/01/2006 21:02

i'm only 4 weeks, due 25/09/06. i've been feeling very tired and having bad headaches already. i get waves of sickness and faint feelings. i never had morning sickness with dd or during the pg i had the mc with but i have a feeling things will be different this time. to be honest i'd be happy to have slight sickness as that's a good sign of a healthy pregnancy.

diddle · 16/01/2006 07:58

Cori - I am 20 weeks this Thursday. Scan is also on Thursday.

Welcome KreamKrackers, can't believe we have people due in September now, where are the months going?

petunia · 18/01/2006 12:29

Afternoon all,

Slinkstah- glad your seminar went well. Hope the thrush is getting better. Have you tried Sainsbury's flapjacks from their bakery dept. The ones with chocolate on one end (or might be both ends) are really yummy!

Cori- think your appt with with your consultant is today. Good luck.

Diddle- if I don't get on again, good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is well.

Arabica · 18/01/2006 13:04

Just dropping in quickly to let you know I had my 12 week scan and everything was fine--I don't even need to have CVS test unless I want to (I don't)

LadySherlockofLGJ · 18/01/2006 13:14

I was only thinking of you the other day.
