As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

mojomummy - i remember you, congratulations that fab news. I haven't had any extra care from the hospital, doctors or midwife, despite requesting it, i have already miscarried twice this year. But fingers crossed, all is well this time, i am 14 wks today according to the scan.

coribells - my doppler has a display but as soon as baby moves about it loses the reading, i can still hear the heart but it doesn't always say how fast/slow it is. It is around 140 mostly, sometimes faster.
I am totally addicted to it, would be doppling all day if i could

santageorgeiscomingtotown · 08/12/2005 14:01

Mojo & Diddle, congratulations to you two too. I hope all goes well for you both. It is so lovely to see people coming out the other side.

mojomummy · 08/12/2005 14:10

Thanks

Diddle, 14 weeks, well that's fab, where does the time go ?!

trix1 · 08/12/2005 19:56

Hi, I would like to join this thread as I have found out today I am pregnant after 3 m/c the last being a missed at 15 weeks last December. So whilst I am over the moon at being pregnant I am also worried sick. I would really appreciate any dos and donts for these early weeks. No more Team and coffee - what else any other tips???

Thanks Diddle, I will follow all the good advise. Did you ever have any side effects from the pregnancy vitamins I found that Pregnacare made me feel very sick.

slinksanta · 08/12/2005 23:02

there are so many newbies to this thread now its great i no longer feel like one

congrats trix i know how anxious it this pg will be for you, there are 12 weeks for me to go before i get to the point where things went very wrong last pg so am counting to get to that point and then ill look forward.

pregnancare has quite alot of iron in it, so it's best to take on a full stomach to avoid feeling sick but if that doesn't work get one that has less iron
other than that cut out caffine, from tea coffee and fizzy drinks etcs, take fish oils too if ya like these can prevent preterm labour and is good for bubba growing, and take acidophilius, less chance of child developing exczema and good for preventing infection in your down there bits

just one point - never take cod liver oil, only fish oil is ok in pg because of vit a overload

jinglediddle · 09/12/2005 07:51

trix - i never had any side effects, i take pregnacare, have been for almost a year and a half now.
My midwife also advised avoiding sex if i had miscarried before. Not really sure why, i guess it might put a bit of stress on the baby, with my blood pumping faster? who knows, i was off sex anyway, so it wasn't a problem.

slinksanta · 09/12/2005 09:57

sperm contains prostglandins sp? which are the same hormone that starts labour, so thats probably why they said no sex as sperm can soften cervix.
i am on sex but am not doing it, have had no advice regarding it as haven't seen anyone but thought i'd abstain anyway- poor dp he is frustrated.

slinksanta · 09/12/2005 10:09

just remembered- im 12 weeks today, ive made it!!! second trimester here we come. dids 14 weeks for you
the next milestone is in another 12 weeks and before i get there i am going to have some anxious days!!

jinglediddle · 09/12/2005 10:24

well done slink - totally understand the anxious days, but your little babe will be fine and well.

Wills · 09/12/2005 10:26

I really investigated the sex thingy stuff cos like you was told no sex. Its only in the first trimester and its for two weeks post a bleed. I asked about the prostglandins and was told that unless baby has already died then absolutely no way that it would kick labour off until such time that you are ripe at the end.

Hope that helps. We didn't make love at all for 14 weeks and the first time we did I spent most of the night up worrying. We haven't really settled back down but that's more to do with me going to bed at 8.00 and him at 11.00.

jinglediddle · 09/12/2005 10:28

thanks wills, think i'm getting the urge back although i think Dh will be too worried about baby to do much.

Wills · 09/12/2005 10:30

By way very rude of me. Welcome trix1 and mojomummy. Its lovely to see you but I understand fully the worrying weeks ahead. I still worry (like yesterday I had a completely panic'd day cos my boobs didn't hurt), but its no longer every day.

Petunia - I'm with you on the period pain STILL on-going and yes only there in mornings or when I need the loo rather badly but it doesn't go away afterwards so am very attached to places with toilets. Have got to know train station toilets a little too well. Am 16+5 today.

Congrats slink

Wills · 09/12/2005 10:32

You'll get there - best take it slowly so you're not up all night worrying.

Slink - have been tested for thrush. Tests arrive next week. It doesn't affect me at the moment i.e. no itching but I'm basically a walking thrush person so thought I'd get it resolved once and for all. Although can't do anything if its still in the breasts.

slinksanta · 09/12/2005 10:47

lol i know what you mean about going to bed at 8 and dp going at 11, same here!!
thats interesting about the sex thing, it will be one of the forst things to ask when i go to my booking appointment, although i think i will abstain until 24 weeks just in case, im not even having 1 cup of coffee a day either and 1 cup would not put me at risk but i am being extra careful.

does anyone know whether i will see a consultant at my booking appointment or a midwife and if they don't agree on a antenatal care plan what shall i do? i have a feeling it will be like last time and they will book my next apppointment in 8/9 weeks time (abnormally scan), and say thats normal, when i know that everyone on mn gets seen 4 weekly. i have already been told the blue team midwifes are too busy to take me.

slinksanta · 09/12/2005 10:50

i haven't been tested for thrush, should i be. it can't be anything else though as had full check up,swabs etc done before got pg.
still itchy though but i should put cream on more often but i start to feel better and then forget

Arabica · 09/12/2005 11:56

Himojomummy (your EDD must be the same as mine or thereabouts: I'm 2/8/06) and trix. I think it's so unfair that my hospital is so accommodating with scans and mojo's isn't. Why should it be a postcode lottery? So far as early self-care is concerned, I've just been taking it easy. I can't go running anyway because I have a sprained ankle.
And yes, I am on the decaf, but have actually gone off the smell and taste of my usual strong black Americanos (with a little soya milk) and am now firmly on the decaf Earl Grey or peppermint.

mojomummy · 09/12/2005 12:30

Arabic, you're right, I am due 2/8 too

Yes, is unfair. I contacted another hospital hoping to get in there yesterday, but to no avail. I asked if I could turn up & they said no & there was a queue...nevermind.

I've tried North Hants & Berks - where are you ?

Arabica · 09/12/2005 12:52

Hello Mojo--everything goes OK and our babies will be twins!
I go to the Homerton Hospital in Hackney. With DS I never saw the same midwife twice, and the post-natal care was rubbish. But the EPU and the medical care is great, really caring--I've been an in-patient for asthma there 3 times and they've been wonderful.

coribells · 09/12/2005 19:48

Wow, Twins. I know the chances of them increase age but Congratulations. I bet you werent expecting that.
Is it to early to tell if they are identical.?

You are so right about postcode lottery, I have had fantastic care this pregnancy, scans every week. Some peoople cant even get an early scan. Crazy.

trix1 · 09/12/2005 20:39

I phoned my docs last night as soon as i found out i was pregnant and this morning I got a call from the consultant at the m/c clinic who said I coudl go for a scan next week - which is probably a bit too early so he said go on the 21st. How good is that though, then when i got home the doctor had phoned to say she had done me prescription for asprin and for some sort of depositerys (not sure what they are for) she said the consultant had suggested i insert them each evening. Does anyone know what they might be and what they are for?

coribells · 09/12/2005 20:52

That sounds promsing Trix.
Do you know what has been causing your miscarriages? Do you have kids already?

trix1 · 09/12/2005 20:58

They found no reason for the m/c's when they did the tests. We have one son almost 4.

trix1 · 10/12/2005 22:32

Hi, can anyone explain to me why I would have been prescribed prgesterone pessaries. What are the benefits of these and do they reduce the chances of another m/c?
