As some of you already know I am currently 5 weeks pregnant after having had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in April of this year.
I am very pleased and excited to be pregnant again but at the same time full of fear and anxiety.
Their seems to be a lot of women on mumsnet at the moment who have experienced a recent miscarriage and are pregnant again. We all have the same worries.
Hopefully we can use this thread to offer each other mutual support and help keep each other positive.

this is the one i got

it feels a bit cheapo but it works really well, best to use your own headphones as these ones are rubbish. it doesn't have a read out of the heart beat so you have to count it yourself, but the ones with read outs are twice the price. For the money though its a bargain

Wills · 01/12/2005 15:28

Ahhh - I wondered how you'd managed not to spend over 50 quid! I've been watching dopplers for a couple of weeks now and they're rarely less than 50.00 by the time they sell. But on the upside at least I can see there is a good turnaround and that I would be able to recoup most of my money back....

Also Slink - Thrush. Please disagree with me if you have more information but as a regular sufferer of thrush (i.e. about one week in every month) I really worried about it in both my previous pregnancies. In fact dd2 and I had breast feeding thrush because I hadn't shifted it and I was forced to stop feeding her at 10 months because I still hadn't shifted it and it was taking over my life. But I've always been told there is no way it can affect baby UNTIL delivery i.e. as they come down the canal they are likely to pick it up. Please please please tell me if this is not true cos I had reasearch this to some extent but am sitting here panicking.

P.s. - I still haven't shifted the thrush in my milk glands and am therefore unlikely to be able to bf this little one for very long but that's a small blip - as long as little one arrives healthy we'll muddle our way through .

slinksanta · 01/12/2005 16:55

There is a thingy called chorioamnionitis which is an infection of the membranes, its cause by some bacteria either candida or normal bacteria from down there or by ecoli passing through the cervix into the womb, this is very rare though. the cervix has the mucous thing to stop any infection getting past. i am just worried after last time as maybe my cervix doesn't have one of those mucousy things.

sounds awful to have thrush in your milk glands, have you tried live yogurt? i have been drinking muller vitality yogurt drinks for ages now, as that has got acidophilius in which is the bacteria that lives in mary mary quite contrary and helps fight thrush etc. i have also just got some chewable acidophilis tablets from holland and barrett, hopefully that will prevent any thrush taking hold.

Wills · 01/12/2005 20:21

There are unfortunately some people that thrush simply takes hold of and wont let go. My doctor and I tried loads of things. I joined a specialist clinic and went on a special diet regieme. Nothing worked. Eventually my gp persauded me (bullied) that possibly by giving up the milk supply would dwindle and the thrush wouldn't have anything to thrive on. Unfortunately my milk supplies whilst reduced to virtually nothing where still there before I fell pregnant with this little one. Whilst it was upsetting to give up before I was ready I had been in total agony for a long time and having someone else throw the towel in so to speak was in a funny way a relief.

I still take acidopholus.

slinksanta · 01/12/2005 21:59

crickey sounds like you have been through the wars with evil thrush has the acidophlus worked a bit?

i am a bit worried tonight as i have had soome spotting/bleeding, although has slowed almost to nothing now and was browny red. i am thinking it could have something to do with the cramps i have been feeling in my left side. i am going to pop down to the emergency gyney place tommorrow morning and hopefully they will scan me to see whats going on. i have heard the babys heartbeat with my doppler so he's still there, i hope he still will be in the morning.

i will let you all know how it goes
11 weeks tommorrow

petunia · 02/12/2005 07:09

I saw your messages on the TTC thread about the bleeding. Hope all goes well today and will be thinking of you.

jinglediddle · 02/12/2005 08:03

slink - I hope the bleeding has stayed away slink and that you're still getting a heartbeat on your doppler. Fingers crossed your lovely baby is absolutely fine.
Its quite common to have bleeding from elsewhere during pregnancy, mine was from me not the baby, and the doctor said it could have been from the placenta doing something rather than baby not being ok, so please don't think the worst, keep yourself and dp calm (i know its easier said than done) especially with your past history.

we're all here for you.

Wills · 02/12/2005 08:19

Oh slink. Everything crossed for you honey. As Diddle says blood can come from loads of other places, mine came from a cyst collasing. Also the placenta at your stage can tear slightly as its settling into place, this can also be blooming painful. It happened to me with dd2 but she was running around at 5.30 this morning. Hearing the heart beat is a really positive sign. Tonnes and tonnes of good luck and hugs being sent your way. Take care honey.

slinksanta · 02/12/2005 12:44

when i woke up and there was more dark brown. i went to the epu first thing after school run. i have just got back, i had to go to a&e to get reffered for a scan, the baby is there and well the drs said the bleeding is not coming from baby and my ovarys look ok, they said it must be hormonal bleeding or even implantation bleeding that has only just escaped.

they said the baby is 11.3 which has shocked me as i have gained 3 days, i usually lose a week!

petunia · 02/12/2005 12:54

That's great news Slink.

jinglediddle · 02/12/2005 13:00

excellent slink - so so pleased that he is ok, even better you've ganied 3 days. i gained one at my last scan, but i'm still counting every friday.

Arabica · 02/12/2005 15:58

Hello, just wondering if I can join your thread? I'm 5wks + 2, and feeling anxious: I had a missed m/c last Feb when I would have been 10wks. DH and I seem to be very good at getting pregnantthis was our first attempt to conceive after the m/c! Anyway, I'm due 2/8 but I don't really want to join an ante-natal thread, as I just don't feel confident enough that all will be well. Was going to ask for an early scan, but (and this is not going to make sense unless you are thinking in the same superstitious pregnancy-addled way I am) a few weeks ago, a friend who'd previously m/cd had an early scan...told all her friends that this pregnancy was viable...and then m/cd again. Not sure if I have any pregnancy symptomsfeel bloated, with sore boobs, but have also been ill with bad cold and have a sprained ankle so not been exercising (usually do lots of cycling and running). So I could just be fat!

Arabica · 02/12/2005 15:59

Oh, forgot to mention, I am 44, so have a statstically higher chance of m/c anyway.

slinksanta · 02/12/2005 17:08

Hi arabica,
congratulations of your pregnancy
welcome to this group all these ladys are a great support, i am 11 weeks and do not feel confident yet to become an active member of the antenatal thread either.

coribells · 02/12/2005 17:29

Arabica, jeez didnt expect to see you here so quickly. CONGRATULATIONS.
I know what you are saying about having an early scan, of course in doesnt guarentee anything. But you could rule out the reason for your last miscarriage.
I have had about seven scans this pregnancy. I am 18 weeks, but only really started to feel any sense of confidence about this pregnancy two weeks ago, when I made it past the stage where I miscarried last time. I suppose I am most scared of another missed miscarriage so am pleased to be scanned regulary.

Arabica · 03/12/2005 00:41

Thanks for the congratulations! Well, I have tested positive but can't trust my body to tell me if the pregnancy remains OK. It's a strange sort of limbo.

Wills · 03/12/2005 09:42

Morning all,

Hi Arabica, Lovely to see you, welcome. I know what you mean about the scan.

Well I'm having an insecure morning.... Woke up at 4.00 this morning and my breasts didn't hurt and I couldn't feel baby move. I'm probably being neurotic but at least its the first time in 2 days that I've seriously worried so am getting there.

Have just won a doppler on ebay. Hope it makes me more secure not less. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Cadmum · 04/12/2005 18:50

I have not posted on this thread for ages and I am Just trying my best to catch up....

Congratulations Arabica! I really hope that you have the dream pregnancy.

Arabica · 04/12/2005 19:38

Hi everyone, been away for the weekend in Hastings. Feeling a bit nauseous, boobs feel v big, and my hair is behaving terribly! It seems to have grown about an inch in the past 3 weeks and looks really lank and sad. Not sure if this is a pregnancy symptom, but have booked a haircut anyway.
Hope everyone else is OK

coribells · 04/12/2005 20:44

I think hair growing quickly is a pregnancy thing.

Had a little moment last night when I thought I hadnt felt baby move for a day or so. Listened with my doppler, found heartbeat easily, racing away at 150. I am finding it very reassuring now.

Wills · 05/12/2005 11:39

Hope my doppler arrives soooooon! Had loads of movement on sunday and this morning so am feeling happier. Suspect the lack of movement was more ot do with my movement i.e. at work I sit but at home I never stop.

Arabica - My hair is always awful during the first trimester dank, limp, grease ball - so much so that this time I ended up with a spotty forehead, didn't even have that problem as a teenager. Its just starting to improve (phew).

Hi Cadmum - hows it going? What stage are you now?

jinglediddle · 05/12/2005 13:18

welcome arabica - congrats on your pregnancy. I think we all feel the same as you, insecure and worried that it could all end at any time. I know i won't rest until baby is in my arms, and even then i will worry that its poorly or something.

right i'm off to find a doppler on ebay, feeling very jealous of you lot all having one.

slinksanta · 05/12/2005 14:20

thats the joy of motherhood diddle the worry never stops!
does any of you get a gurgling bubbley sound when using a doppler? i had disgusting noises come from my belly last night but it couldn't have been stomach as it was really low.
i couldn't find heart beat last night and i thought the worst because of the bleed and everything, baby there again this morning though

slinksanta · 05/12/2005 14:23

got your scan pics diddle they are great!!

jinglediddle · 05/12/2005 14:24

glad you like them slink, amazing isn't it. feels very odd to think that that little bundle is inside me.
