Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Pls don't worry Bunny, it won't do you any good. I convinced mtself I was going to have a missed miscarriage again and thought I wouldn't get seen for a scan until 16 weeks again. It did me no good at all. I would have panick attacks and breathlessness. It was all for nothing. Could you get an early scan to put your poor mind at rest?? I really undrstand how you feel and wish you all the very best. Maybe get some nice bubble bath and try and relak in the bath. Send some good vibes to your littl'n, it will do wonders. Now that I'm doing lots of research into m/c I'm finding more and more that women have a much better chance if they feel supported and given special tlc care in early pg after a m/c. It's so worrying and takes away the innocence of pgcy doesn't it. Wishing u well my friend.
LOL Quacksxxxxx

quackers · 01/09/2003 08:59

Jusr read that back. My point wasn't that it will happen again but that it did me no good worrying, hope that's how it came accross xxxxx

bluecow · 01/09/2003 13:06

Dot1 - don't worry about the PCOS thing (I have it too). I read an article recently where a midwife said that some women with PCOS seem to be more fertile than others and some never have any baby problems. Stay cool!
I am having slightly different symptoms with thsi baby (ref some of the discussions here). Not half as sick as I was with ds and have yukky tate in mouth.

bunny2 · 01/09/2003 13:08

Hi Quacks, thanks for your lovely ressurances. I have just seen the midwife but the earliest I can get a scan is 12 weeks, that's 6 weeks away. They dont do early scans here so I'll have a nuchal fold scan. She did say she would visit me at 10 wk to try and listen for a heartbeat but even that is 4 wks away, oh, why am I so impatient? This is very difficult but there is nothing I can do except enjoy all the support I get and wallow in a bit of self-pity. I left you a message on another thred, you do sound down. PErhaps all this bleeding is just your system having a damn good clearout so that you can have a healthy pg next time. Lots of hugs to you.

quackers · 01/09/2003 13:35

Thanks Bunny, you're very sweet, hope you;re ok today. I remember the doc trying to listen for a heartbeat at 12 weeks and she said it's hard and can make you worry even more if they don't hear one. Are you near to A BUPA or the London baby clinic, they do scans at short notice from 6 weeks and it's between £70 - £100. I would have if I didn't get one here as I did in the end but it was too late for me. It just might help you to relax and concentrate on a healthy baby. Well worth the spend. xxx Yes feeling bad, I'm afraaid, Doc is now sending me to someone for a bit of help getting over this. Thanks xxxx

bunny2 · 01/09/2003 13:39

Quacks, it sounds like you have a sympathetic gp, that's good. I had counselling in the past and it really helped (till I fell in love with him which complicated matters a little!). Good luck with it mate.

Bluecow, I mentioned to the midwife that I dont feel sick as I have done in my previous pregnancies, she suspects I may be carrying a girl as I had lots of sickness with a boy.

bluecow · 01/09/2003 15:54

Bunny2 - that's really interesting. I was so sick with ds that lots of people said 'ooh it must be a girl'!! But I have had a sneaking feeling that it may be a girl this time because the symptoms are not so bad. Plus two people have told me they had this nasty metallic taste in their mouth when they were carrying daughters, which I didn't have with ds.
It's interesting to hear a midwife say that though.
I feel a little sick at the mo but last time round all I could do was go to bed and the thought of food was just awful. DH is convinced it's a girl!

bunny2 · 01/09/2003 16:52

Yes, I thought symptoms were meant to be worse with girls but according to my m/w, it can happen with either sex, it is the DIFFERENCE in your symptoms which is significant. Who knows, we will just have to wait 7 months to find out

LucieB · 01/09/2003 17:19

So far my symptoms haven't been THAT different second time around although am experiencing a lot of headaches at the moment - almost every day. I had a boy first time around and so far we can't see anything on the scans to indicate no 2 is a boy. However, still early days at 16 weeks. Interesting discussion - has anyone had the same symptoms but had one of each?

bluecow · 02/09/2003 12:31

I wonder if people have also had different cravings if they have had one of each.
Funny this time round, I'm not so bothered about finding out what sex baby is but I did want to know first time. Am I odd?!

Fennel · 02/09/2003 13:17

Hi can I join the thread?

I'm due 17 April with my 3rd. I've got two DDs aged 3 and 2 (metallic taste in mouth in early pregnancy with both, also with this new one).

Has anyone else found that noone is at all excited or pleased for them if it's the second or third time? People think I'm crazy to want another so soon so I get no sympathy for feeling sick etc.

dot1 · 02/09/2003 14:11

Hi Fennel! It's weird for me, because this is my first pregnancy, but its our 2nd child for dp and I, as she had our first one! So yes, people aren't as excited, but it's still my first pregnancy so I think they should be..! My Mum thinks we should have waited a bit longer - ds will be just over 2 when baby's born - but I'll already by 35 when I have this one, and didn't want to wait too much longer.

I'm worrying yet again, 'cos my nausea/tiredness symptoms seem to have gone - I'm still only 10 weeks - so I'm worrying something's happened, even though I had a good scan at 8 weeks. Seeing the midwife for my booking in appointment next week, so I'm hoping she'll find a heartbeat.

So much to worry about...! Can't wait until I can feel it kicking! (I know, then I'll be counting how many kicks it does... I'm not normally this paranoid - silly what being pregnant does to you..)

Hi Bunny 2,

I'm exactly the same as you (no symptoms)- I'm 7 weeks and 2 days; and it has been worrying me to distraction. However, I have a very sympathetic GP and he has agreed to refer me for an early scan (even though I haven't had a previous miscarraige and haven't had bleeding). I think it helps that I had post natal depression after the birth of my baby (now 13 months) so he thinks I am mentally fragile!

Hope to get the scan this week, I am picking up his referral letter from the surgery tonight and delivering it to Obstetric Ultrasound tomorrow (it helps that I work at the hospital).

Could you see your GP and play the 'pyschological' / acute anxiety card? Its a valid reason for referral, since if you are like me the worry has just been totally eating you up.

Lil · 02/09/2003 14:36

Dot I just wanted to say many congrats on the pregnancy. I read many of your threads on how difficult it has been trying for a baby - so well done and good luck etc!!

bluecow · 02/09/2003 14:44

Fennel - big congrats! And I know exactly what you mean about people not being so excited about subsequent babies! Both mine and dh's parents seemd more surprised than excited when we told them - in fact I was quite disappointed with their reactions. It's my friends who have been more thrilled. Perhaps it's cos ds is 10 months old. But then I'm knocking on and didn't want to wait! I've got that metallic taste in my mouth which is why I wonder if I might be having a girl - I didn't have it with ds.
Lilysmum and Dot1 - I'm sorry you're so worried. I hope you get some peace of mind soon. My doc did say that symptoms can come and go though, if that's any help. And Dot, I know what you mean about counting the kicks. I don't think there is any time in the pregnancy where it's easy to relax and not worry.

dot1 · 02/09/2003 15:57

thanks Lil - and Bluecow! I love this thread - such a comfort when you've got 'silly' worries and can air them.

bunny2 · 02/09/2003 19:02

Lilysmum, I was told that under no circumsdtances will they scan early here. Apparently women who have had 3 miscarriages still havent got an early scan. I thought about lying by saying I had been bleeding but that just might tempt fate. I might ask dh if we can fork out for a private scan, 6 weeks away is just too long, especially when I have no reassuring symptoms.

hewlettsdaughter · 02/09/2003 19:46

Hi all - just a quickie to say congrats Fennel!

bunny2 · 02/09/2003 22:30

Me too, good to have another one here on this thread.

I also wanted to say to Dot, we're all excited for you

quackers · 03/09/2003 08:56

Oh Bunny, hope your DP?H will agree to a private scan if that's what u want. I can't belive their policy!! Outrageous, they're inhumane!! BUPA is more exp but the clinic London is £100 and there's one in Amersham I think that is £70. Have a search on the web. Good luck bunnyxxx

splash · 03/09/2003 13:48

bunny, i had a scan the other day and they could not even see a baby just the yolk sac. of course i felt worse for even going to the scan. they then put the next one for 13weeks. (r they for real?). midwife told me too arrange with the epu for another and they advised me to leave it as long as poss and put mein for two weeks. then my own midwife set up an appoint for 10 days time. it seems to be a dif set up here. ive been worrying myself sick as they couldnt even see the foetal pole.
at last though a touch of sickness to my relief. hope everyone is ok.

quackers · 03/09/2003 14:05

Oh Splash, yes sometimes it's worse going for a scan v early, If your dates are correct then I'm told - and have looked on web after obsessing myself about it - a sac can be seen from 5 weeks, a foetal pole should be seen at 6 weeks and a heart beat at 7. Obviously if the dates are slightly out you need to allow either way for this. Hope this is of use to you. I think next time I would not scan before 7 weeks, about 7.5 - 8 is what I'd opt for and then there is little room for uncertainty. Splash how far r u?? Also if they are using trans abdominal it is less clear, but internal should give a very good indication. I know just what it's like waiting Splash, thinking of youxxxxxxx Take carexxxxx

splash · 03/09/2003 14:27

thanks quackers I know you are a going through a very tough time at the moment but you still remain positive and you are genuinely still interested in other peoples problems. thankyou, blessyou. i think you should be mumsnets queen!!
i am 7 weeks tom, the day i had the scan i was 6wks1dy. acording to the first day of lmp. however i know i did not ov til dy 16. i did the lh test and ovaries were really sore. so i am certain when i ovd. she said the baby was too small to see. but the yolk sac was rounded and had the little yolk inside what the baby feeds off of. i really needed to talk to you the other day but i didnt want to make things hard for you as i know it only recently happened to you.

splash · 03/09/2003 14:39

oh yeah quack it was tv scan and a ta scan.
i feel alot better now had a good talk with midwife and felt sick yesterday and have been feeling so today. last night i moaned to dh about feeling sick when we were in bed. he reminded me that i wanted to feel sick so.. i should be happy. i will be so happy when i see that flutter on the scan. its funny for my previous pregs i was so niamve (hope thats how u spellit) before when i used to go for the scans i used to lye there expecting to see my baby on the screen!. how things have changed in me.

quackers · 03/09/2003 16:31

Exactly Splash, you just used to expect to see it, now I just expect nothing. One day. You are such a lovely , kind person and I am always here whatever anyones' circumstances. Thankyou, you made my day saying those kind things.
Well, I didn't realise you didn't ov till day 16. That makes u most probs 4/5 days later than u would expect. therefore a scan at 6 weeks from LMP would not pick this up yet, so don't worry at all. It is a good sign they saw a yolksca and you were only probs 5 wks. Wishing u all the very best my friend. Look forward to hearing all about your first scan. I will get there and be a Mummy again.xxxxxx
