What week was your 1st baby born?

I'm now 33 weeks and I know it's not an exact science but I'm curious to hear as I'm always told that I'll likely be overdue as it's my 1st. But I do wonder as I'm reasonably active and my cycle was less than 28 days. I'm moving house around 36 weeks, so I hope the stress of that doesn't affect anything but also the idea of going to 42 weeks fills me with dread.

Basically, are most 1st babies 40 weeks plus?

I was thinking the same thing. Even without any demographic info (though I'm sure MNHQ have a clear profile of Ms Average MNetter), it'd be interesting. What has really surprised me has been the number of babies born early but not prem... I'd thought that most full-term first babies were born at 40-42 weeks.,

OK... from the first 50 posters

Premature (up to 36 weeks) 18%
37 weeks 8%
38 weeks 8%
39 weeks 14%
40 weeks 22%
41 weeks 20%
42 weeks 10%

36+5 - had just been on maternity leave for 4 days
midwife put DS1 on the 'standard' start line for red book growth charts as she felt that was close enough to 37

I was the first of our pre-natal group to give birth, the other 6 were evenly split between before and after due date

does mean that when DS2 arrived just one day before due date it felt like an eternity - was already stressing about induction etc

40+11
then labour stopped half way through, so not sure she wanted to come out at all!

39 induced due to pre-eclapsia.

I just can't believe the height thing.

I'm 5ft 2" and went to 40+9.
Friend of 4ft 11" induced at 40 +13
Friend of 5ft 3" went to 42+? (all sorts of confusion over dates leading to a likely v overdue baby and complications (none long term thank goodness)

So, all shorter than average and all well over due date.

Slightly more scientifically, this study (or the abstract at least) suggests there is a correlation within the Asian population. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19694693

iskra · 30/09/2010 14:24

42 weeks (spontaneous labour). Didn't read far enough back to know what this height thing is about, but I'm 5 ft 6 in.

splashy · 30/09/2010 14:24

I was 40+1. :)

  1. Took me by surprise as I thought I was bound to be late. Happily I'd put a waterproof sheet on the bed just in case Grin.

Not here yet... and I am 40+4 today. Getting a bit bored of waiting!

I am really not sure it has anything to do with how active you are and length of cycle... my cycle is 22-24 days (so v short) and I am very active (I worked until 38 weeks and have since redecorated every room in the house and walked the dog a minimum of 2 miles every day - for instance, finished painting the bathroom yesterday, cleaned the house and did a 4 mile walk with the dog)... baby still not here!

Claz1001 · 01/10/2010 11:59

38+6 for me. Currently 33 weeks with no. 2 and wondering if he might be early too! also moving in a couple of weeks - this seems to be a common theme, new house, new baby! Good luck with everything.

Both DC were born in week 39, DS (DC2) was two days later than DD (DC1)
