I'm now 33 weeks and I know it's not an exact science but I'm curious to hear as I'm always told that I'll likely be overdue as it's my 1st. But I do wonder as I'm reasonably active and my cycle was less than 28 days. I'm moving house around 36 weeks, so I hope the stress of that doesn't affect anything but also the idea of going to 42 weeks fills me with dread.

Basically, are most 1st babies 40 weeks plus?

neverlookback · 13/08/2010 13:22

41+4 for my first and 42 exactly for 2nd (induced and huge 10lb3)!!

good luck its worth the wait!!!

KERALA1 · 13/08/2010 13:25

Dont believe the first baby always late myth

DD1 - 37
DD2 - 35

CrazyOVERbaby · 13/08/2010 13:56

Hello, my first was 3 weeks early and 8lb. My second was 1 week late and 6lb 10! So I think it's luck of the draw. Interestingly, I was far more active (swimming 4 times a week until I went into labour!)with my second, and I was convinced she would be earlier. It's odd though, for all DD1 was so much earlier and bigger born, they ended up both being the exact same weight at 8 weeks - DD2 caught up - how odd.Good luck with the labour x

Mouseface · 13/08/2010 14:18

DD was 40 + 14. Induced. Thank God!!!!!!!

DS was 39 + 5. Induced due to my severe SPD.

Good luck!

ladylush · 13/08/2010 15:57

39+4

Hai1988 · 13/08/2010 16:25

My DS came at 39+4

ValiumSingleton · 13/08/2010 16:28

39+1d

i have a theory, smaller women slightly less likely to get to their due date. I'm 5.2", walked everywhere and was 32.

MissWooWoo · 13/08/2010 16:39

Induced at 41+4 which did nothing and then again at 41+5 resulting in dd being born 41+6

ladylush · 13/08/2010 16:47

Valium - sorry your theory disproved by my friend. 5ft 3, and induced both times as 42 wks + (both big babies).

KateandEmsMum · 13/08/2010 16:55

Due date. Isn't is supposed to be about the placenta ie. as it deteriorates towards end of pg, it releases hormones to baby which then starts labour.

If that sounds scientific, I must stress that I don't really have a clue what I'm talking about!

muslimah28 · 13/08/2010 17:13

40 + 16. i thought it was the longest pregnancy ever. but now i know it is not. it is one of the longest pregnancies ever.

lilac21 · 13/08/2010 17:19

DD1 was born at 9.20pm the evening before she was due, DD2 was born at 9.24pm on Oct 3rd but she was due on Oct 1st.

EnglandAllenPoe · 13/08/2010 17:22

i believe there is plenty of research that on average smaller women have shorter gestations....and the increase is gestation length is because Uk ladies have been getting bigger.

ladylush · 13/08/2010 17:36

Oh that's interesting edgar. I guess my friend was particularly unlucky then.

BetsyBoop · 13/08/2010 18:15

DD 39+4 (ended as em c/s)

DS 40+10, gave up on idea of VBAC, he was evicted by el c/s
(longest 10 days of my life...never thought I'd go overdue as DD was early, and he was definitely over cooked at 10lb 10.5oz, just too damn comfy!Grin

Catrinm · 13/08/2010 18:38

DS1 30 weeks

DS2 33+ 4

EnglandAllenPoe · 13/08/2010 18:46

I am at 40 + 7 with this pregnancy (by scan) and no sign of labour (though baby is cocked locked and ready to rock!)..have googled 'gestation length' ad nauseam..

fizzpops · 13/08/2010 19:59

Labour started at 40+2 - DD arrived at 40+4.

I didn't feel ready until I had passed my due date and then once that was over I sort of relaxed or something and along she came.

Drayford · 13/08/2010 20:47

I used to have a 30 day cycle

DD 41+3

DS 43+1 I was the size of a double decker bus. (but was a home birth and I did have chicken pox when he was delivered - which is a nightmare story that I'm not going to tell here. He arrived 12 hrs before I was due to go to hospital for induction in a sectioned off area of the delivery suite to avoid infecting any other mums - he was also well over 11 lbs in weight - insert crossed legs emoticon here - the explanation from the obstetrician and midwife for the overdue delivery was that my body had shut down to prevent infection to the baby on delivery.)

DD 39+0 9hr labour
DS1 37+3 6hr labour
DS2 34+2 not actualy sure when labour actualy started!! I was under a lot of stress at time as dd and ds1 were 'traped' in france due to the 'ash cloud' with xh (who lives there) being realy unreasonable. I was so worried about how to get them back that i dont know if i didnt notice labour starting or weather i went staight into full labourBlush. I do know however that once i arrived at hospital he popped out so bloody quickly that the midwife joked she almost droped himGrin.

muslimah28 · 14/08/2010 12:37

Drayford 43+1- oh my God! that must be the longest on here!!

(too many posts for me to read the whole thread to actually know! anyone else reluctant to post on massively long threads cos you just can't keep up? this is the first time i have)

ValiumSingleton · 14/08/2010 18:12

i would like to see all this data entered into a spreadsheet with age and height of the first time mother. Only then can we analyse it. Any volunteers
?
