Hope you had a lovely day at the wedding Ethelred.

Did you have a nice anniversary Klerka?

I had a nice day yesterday. Not got any plans for today yet, suspect dd will want to do soft play or swimming .

Lee Hope you're OK.

Hope you enjoyed your anniversary Klerka. It's our's soon. 5 years. We'd agreed to buy each other a bench for the garden as it's wood this year for the traditional gift. We chose one from Tesco but then I found out that Garden furniture is half price there at the moment and remembered that we had enough vouchers to pay for all but 99p of it! So I have my bench as we got it early to take advantage of the deal - but it cost 99p and doesn't feel very present-like anymore

Took Catherine swimming for the first time today. It went well. She was only happy if being held by me but seemed to enjoy the water. Finally got Alex to swim on his back with floats without being held which will mean he can have his first swimming badge this term if he can do it again for the teacher at his lessons. DH left his phone in the pocket of his swim shorts though and went in the pool with it in there! It's totally ruined. Good job we kept my old phone as a spare!!.

No running for me yesterday as I woke up feeling awful but I'm definitely feeling better today so will be out again next week.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/07/2010 17:48

Im sorry to hear about your friend lee.

It'll be our 8th anniversary this year. Which is bronze or pottery. DH is terrible for keeping in tradition though, we usually just end up going out for a meal (which is of course, very nice!!)
BIL is really imaginative when it comes to gifts. For the paper anniversary he bought my sister an acre of land on either Mars or Venus, cant remember which, he then gave her the certificate with some flowers!

Elizabeth is trying to crawl bless her. She goes from the sitting position onto her belly and then sort of belly shuffles to try and move!

hendo77 · 04/07/2010 20:26

Sorry to hear about your friend too Lee.

Klerka hope you enjoy your anniverary.

Al - glad the swimming went well, good luck to Alex for his badge.

ABF - Imogen is also trying to crawl. She can get up on all fours and also sort of commando crawl (and scarily fast when she really wants). So far when my back's been turned for a minute I've discovered her trying to eat my laptop cable, the carpet and the decorative stuff around a candle. We now have the playpen downstairs, although I need to actually put it together!

I've had a lovely weekend after two days at work on thursday and friday as my parents are back from NZ until mid-september and as they live just round the corner that's loads of babysitting and company for me for a few months!

Lee - also well done on A's sleeping! Still waiting here...

Hi all, just on catching up, havent been on for a while, just relishing my last few days of Mat Leave before i return to work in 2 weeks, boo hoo!

Have to have eyes in my backside at the min has Ellis is in to everything!
He crawls everywhere, and causes mayhem where he can-the cats now run when they see him moving, as he usually heads straight for them, and because they are used to kids-(weve had them since DS1 was a baby)they used to lie there when he first started going towards them, but he has started putting their tails in his mouth to bite them-little devil that he is!

So sad to hear about your friend lee you just feel for her DH and kids.

Just off to finish catching up, have an ironing mountain to tackle so really should be doing that as E naps, but the lure of MN is just too great sometimes....

AlCrowley · 05/07/2010 22:06

Hi annie. Good to see you again.

How are you Lee? I guess you must have the funeral coming up soon. Virtual hugs to you.

No trying to crawl here. Catherine is still mastering sitting. We've got one of those inflatable ring seat things which is proving invaluable at the moment. She wants to sit all the time but is so wobbly, I can't leave her for fear of her falling. At least the ring thing gives her something soft to fall onto!

Got my first post-baby smear tomorrow. I hate them but after having a colposcopy a few years ago, I have to have them every year. Fingers crossed for another clear result.

anniebigpants · 05/07/2010 22:17

I too hate having smears done Al, like you ive had a colposcopy done, back in 2000, and ive had annual smears since, thankfully all clear, but they never get any easier! I find them quite uncomfortable.
Fingers crossed for another clear result for you.

Sorry to hear about your friend Lee. I'm sure that her family will really appreciate that you have taken the time to write to them. In the future her dc wull be able to look at letters like yours and know how much their mum was thought of by her friends.

Feeling very guilty here, well overdue a smear test . Will book an appointment soon!

Lee, ds is also not nearly as advanced as these crawlers! He rolls over and wriggles a bit but that's as far as it goes!

Been feeling cheerier over these past few days, giving ds ff after breakfast and lunhch and at bedtime. Still bf the rest of the time which in reality means two bf between eah ff iyswim. Will see how it all pans out but at least I don't feel like he will suddenly stop bf tomorrow. Really want to try to ?promote? (not sure if that;s the right word really) to my two pregnant friend without pushing it on them. I feel like an ex-smoker evangelicising about how lovely it is (though I do remember the bad bits).

Hope police catch that gunman soon, I live in Tyneside and I've heard loads of police helicopters out today.

hendo77 · 06/07/2010 08:51

Lee whatever you have written will be so much appreciated by her family now and in the future. My gran still has a briefcase full of lovely letters about my grandad which we look at from time to time.

We've managed to put up our playpen now so I can contain Imogen as necessary throughout the day! I just had a look and it took her approximately two weeks from rolling onto her front and then whinging to be turned back after a while to being able to wriggle around the floor. We're going on holiday in the middle of august and I had said to my parents that she'll probably just be starting to try and crawl then, but she just suddently seems to have gone for it! On the positive side, it seems to be helping her napping as I just put her down now and she will go straight to sleep in only a few minutes.

LaDiDaDi - also feeling about overdue smear here. I got a letter the other week, but thought I needed to wait for my period to return first - is that wrong?

OP posts:
AlCrowley · 06/07/2010 09:30

No period here yet. I was told it doesn't matter. You can go anytime after 6 months post birth.

Lee - A friend of mine lost his baby to SIDS a couple of years ago. When we were all struggling to support him, he once told me that it doesn't matter what you say, all that matters is that you've said something. He said that even the people who just came out and admitted that they didn't know what to say were comforting because he knew they were there and supporting him. I'm sure whatever you have written will be perfect.

AlCrowley · 06/07/2010 11:38

Well, that was awful! It took forever while she poked around in there, changing speculums and losing her scrapey thing - I ended up laid on my side with my bum pointing towards her!! Very dignified!! - and then she said she wasn't sure she'd got enough and I might have to go back!!

She did say that they'd changed the rules on smears now too. It's anytime from 3 months after a baby now. Definitely no need for a period.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 06/07/2010 13:07

Ooh Al that sounds lovely...not. I don't think I am due one for a bit yet so will just wait until i get the letter...are they every 3 years, or every 5?

So sorry about your friend Lee, but as you said, it is was probably a blessed release for her, but is still so sad for those who are left behind to remember her. Sending you a big hug.

We had a great weekend at the wedding although was feeling a bit below par with that bloody cold. the saree looked pretty good and was reasonably forgiving; i had visions of my big stretch-marked belly being on show for all to see! Anyway, had a great time and enjoyed spending time with DH on our own and also being with lots of our good friends.

And by all accounts Anna loved being at my mum's house. Was really fretting about it once we'd dropped her off, but she had a whale of a time and seemingly didn't shed a tear! Don't think she missed us at all! Anyway, it's good news for us as we have another weddding in August in Edinburgh, so will be another 2 night stay at nana's for her!

sparklycheerymummy · 06/07/2010 15:09

hi LEE.....WELL I BF AND I WOULDNT DREAM OF WEARING A T SHIRT LIKE THAT.....its the sort of thing you might buy but keep at home but not to a baby group where to me its obvious it could upset people who might be a bit sensitive. it would pee me off but I know i am over sensitive and touchy????

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 06/07/2010 15:10

Don't worry about it lee, we know what you mean! xxx

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 06/07/2010 15:12

Oh just to say as well, don't know if any of you shop there, but Blooming Marvellous have a BIG sale on. Just bought anna a top, some jeans, a new swimming costume and also a seat back cover for the car, all for £20!

LaDiDaDi · 06/07/2010 15:48

You've not exactly encouraged me with that story Al!

Lee, I think that t-shirt is deliberately provocative and really sneery towards ff mums. Def not appropriate imo.

AlCrowley · 06/07/2010 15:53

That has to have been the worst smear ever. Normally, it's done in less than a minute and I'm off home.

But if it saves me from going like my Grandma did then it's worth even the horrible ones.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 06/07/2010 18:43

Agree Al, it is one of those things that, however awful it is, needs to be done. Good on you.

Claire236 · 06/07/2010 19:26

You've all reminded me I'm due a smear. Had a letter just after ds2 was born & had forgotten I was due. I have annual ones as well having had to have some abnormal cells removed a few years.

My husband has done something to the computer & now everything's massive. He must be going blind if he needs things that big to be able to read them. Going to have to fix it, it's driving me nuts.

Sorry about your friend Lee.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 07/07/2010 22:11

oh my god, no messages today!
