New thread everyone...!

OP posts:

Thank you everyone - you've made me feel much better about it all! I think I just need to be a bit more organised so that I know what I want her to eat and when rather than just sort of seeing what's around as I go along!!!!

Imogen seems to have got the hang of lumpy foods again so that's good - she stuffed down an Ella's pouch of salmon risotto with carrots and peas in it tonight along with loads of strawberries. I think we need to try and plan our meals so that they are things she can have (will be healthier for me no doubt too!) and then get organised with it all. I think I'm going to get one of those stick on bowls too and let her have a go with her spoon completely herself this weekend - so far she loves using her spoon if I fill it and pass it to her, but it qutie often goes everywhere! I imagine we'll have lots of hands in the bowl too, but she'll have fun and hopefully start to learn to use the spoon herself over time.

Lee - how did you first day back go? Hope it went well...

LaDiDaDi · 02/11/2010 20:18

Oooh Hercule, dd had one of those stickon bowls and she liked it, I have no idea where it is now though! Will have to have a hunt.

I'm going to have arms like Arnie soon! Catherine decided today that the best way to prove how much she loves Mummy is to insist on being carried - constantly!

Any attempt to put her down was met with screaming as if being murdered while crawling after me to ensure I could hear the woe!

I still managed to make risotto for dinner and gingerbread biscuits with Alex at the same time, one handed with Catherine on one hip though!...! My shoulders are killing! I did try getting out of the biscuits but Alex started to cry when I suggested doing them tomorrow instead and I feel so sorry for him sometimes having to do/not do things because of Catherine so I went for it. I had him sat at the table cutting shapes out while I stirred the risotto and held Catherine. I helped him get the biscuits onto trays betweens stirs. We had great fun decorating them after dinner and they were very tasty so it all worked out for the best in the end.

Glad you had a good day Lee. I'm sure it'll get easier as you both settle into the new routine.

Alex had a sticky mat that would hold any plate/bowl down as long as it had a smooth base. Might try digging that out. We did finger foods at lunch - Dairylea sandwiches, banana lumps, strawberries and pineapple. She ate a couple of chunks of banana and the rest went on the floor! She ended up with puree.

HerculesPoirot · 02/11/2010 22:58

Lee - I'm glad it went well and that Andrew was happy. Hope you feel more positive about it soon though too.

My problem with sandwiches is that the bread gets stuck to the top of her mouth a bit, or she stuffs so much in it all balls up - do you think if I keep trying she'll just get the hang of it eventually?

Chucking things off the highchair is a current favourite game here - then looking over to see where they are and shouting for them back. We're not giving them back, but then she refuses to eat off the spoon unless she has something in her hand. Dh says he can't think for one moment where she gets her stubborness from...

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/11/2010 07:06

No bloody wonder I couldnt find this thread... just found myself scrolling through all the ante-natal threads thinking "where the fuck has it gone???" Confused [idiot]

Anyway how is everyone?

I am ok. Children are ok. (saying that ive just had to drag Elizabeth away from Jakes breakfast, which she had knocked to floor and was happily eating the soggy cornflakes off the floor)

Elizabeths eating has come along very well. She finally eats lumps from off a spoon!
She'll eat most things cut up into bits for her now aswell. Still have those lovely gagging incidents though, when do they end???!

How is Christmas and birthday plans coming on for everyone? Im trying to get sorted now because we are moving out of the flat, we are putting it up for rent and moving in with my mum and dad Shock for a few months so we can save a shedload of money and buy a house big enough for us all and our junk. It'll be nice keeping the flat aswell though was feeling quite sad about selling it so at least we've got something to either give to Jake or sell for Uni fees later on. Paul is having big ideas for buying another in a few years so Elizabeth has one aswell. [eyeroll] I asked him when he was planning on robbing a bank to pay for it! Grin

HerculesPoirot · 03/11/2010 19:16

No idea about the gagging incidents! Imogen does this sort of half grin half grimace as she coughs up food from the back of her throat then either chews it some more (nice) or spits it out with her tongue! Mostly she gags because she isn't concentrating or is trying to get/throw something else!!!!!

Imogen seems much more into her lumpy foods again, so I think I'm going to devise a little menu for the next week and try some home made cooking again now...

ABF - are we married to the same Paul? He's always got big ideas about buying bigger and better houses too...

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get Imogen to drink less milk and have some water instead? Do I just not let her have any in between when I want her to and if so how long will it take for her to get used to it do you think? Currently she point blank refuses to drink anything else we have tried...

EthelredTheUndead · 03/11/2010 22:43

Hi all, hope you're all ok. off to bed now, but will write more tomorrow.

Oooh good idea on the sandwiches might try that - she actually seems to like granary bed the best after stealing some from our plates but is that OK for babies with all the bits in it do you think or should I continue to get her non-granary?

Good luck with going back to work Lee. Hmmm not sure about the cm holiday issue. I think with most cm if they are on holiday you don't have to pay at least. Quite a few of my friends' childminders will recommend a friend cm (often one they all meet up with once a week and that the children know) to look after them instead if they are ill or on holiday - although 4 weeks sounds like a long time to me. Alternatively could you use a nanny temporarily during that time...? What a pain though, I don't know what I would do in that situation I have to say.

What is parkin btw?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/11/2010 10:12

Lee, I think it will work out ok. Ish.
My mum and dad will be fine, but my grandma lives there aswell and she is a nightmare.
Ahhhh!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/11/2010 14:20

Yeah luckily it's a big house!

BANGerskite · 04/11/2010 17:58

At least you'll have babysitters on tap ABF!

Could be a bit of a passion killer though. Hope you weren't planning a DC3 any time soon Wink

It's getting too cold/dark/wet to run after DH gets home from work these days so I'm going to attempt Zumba tonight instead. Wish me luck!!

Hoping that as it's on for an hour and 5k only takes me just over half an hour these days, that it might help my stamina too, which might help me reach my goal of a sub 30 minute 5k. Plus the change of exercise type might help me push past this plateau I've reached weight wise. Got another 9kgs/stone and a half to lose so I'm just under half way there, I just need a change of tactic now to get things going again. Did manage to just fit into a pair of brand new size 10 jeans last week though which I was very pleased about - even if I could never wear them with anything tight due to the massive muffin top! :)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/11/2010 18:55

Grin Bang.
Well done on the running. Im out of all my pre-pregnancy jeans now, cant afford to buy new ones just invested in some belts! My sister did give me a gorgeous pair from River Island the other day that are a size ten and are actually a little bit loose!! Shock Not through fitness though, more through I cant afford to buy sweets, chocolate, wine and takeaways!! Grin

PS, planning DC3?? Dont swear at me! Wink

HerculesPoirot · 04/11/2010 19:10

Size 10?!?!? I've not been that since I was about 10... oh well at least I'm on the right track for now... Bangers - hope you have fun at Zumba, there is a class at our gym on a Tuesday night that I was thinking about going to sometime.

Poor Imogen slipped, fell and banged her chin on the floor and cut her bottom lip on her tooth so lots of blood (well actually not very much when I calmed down later and looked, but it seemed a lot at the time). As it happened when I was looking the other way I felt doubly guilty. Managed to get her to drink a bottle of something other than water today - although I did have to resort to the tried and tested dioralyte!!! Please tell me other people's children have such bizarre tastes...

LaDiDaDi · 04/11/2010 20:30

Hope Zumba goes well, Blathers. I've heard lots of people rave about it so it should be good.

Lee, the cm thing is a real pita for you, esp as you weren't feeling great about going back anyway. Hope you can get something sorted out soon.

I would love some new jeans but I hate jeans shopping, I am lucky enough to be slim but I think that I am a funny shape so it's hard to get something that fits in all of the right places. I like skinny jeans, have very slim legs, a sticky out bottom a bit of a tummy but a small waist. I tend to have a muffin top with anything low rise as I am no longer toned like I once was!

Zumba was good. Class was a bit disjointed as the instructor had managed to leave her stereo thing with all the tracks on at her previous class so we ended up with her neighbours mini CD player and some disks she didn't know very well. But that was good because it meant the class was a little slower than normal so I didn't look like too much of a bumbling fool tripping up over my own feet trying to keep up :)

I've known the instructor for years so I know she's a -bit dippy she'll be better next week.

I'm 5'1" and rather pear shaped - all tummy and hips. Even at a size 14 just after having Catherine, I was only a 32" bra size! I seem to be perfectly petite Next shaped so I can buy jeans in there quite easily which is lucky. Had to get my maternity jeans online so it was nice to pretty much know they were going too fit when I ordered them. My new jeans are high waisted so it's a bit disappointing that my tummy goes high enough to still spill over the top but at least it's not as bad as my old, lower waisted ones!

I'll never make it back to a size 8. I did it once while at uni but was barely eating and looked quite poorly in retrospect. This last stone and a half will hopefully get rid of my muffin top and slim down my arms and face some more. Just feeling like I can leave the house without magic knickers would be lovely - oh, and sticking it to "when is your baby due" lady at school too of course Grin

LaDiDaDi · 05/11/2010 16:06

Pleased that you enjoyed Zumba, Blathers. I really need to do some exercise, I found a Davina workout dvd that I bought after having dd 4.5 years ago. The seal is stil intact lol!

I am between sizes in Next trousers and jeans, bottom is too big for a 6 but an 8 is far too big on my waist. I've tried nearly all of Topshop styles and there is one "Jamie" that is okish but a bit too low rise for me. I've got some H&M "Loyal" ones on now but they gape loads at the back which is v. annoying. I might just buy more leggings/jeggings, easier to get ones that fit but not quite as warm!

HerculesPoirot · 06/11/2010 09:54

Watching BBC breakfast about how much weight the strictly stars have lost - I need to go on that programme!!!! Or just start going to zumba at my gym...

Hope everyone is having nice weekends.

BANGerskite · 06/11/2010 10:49

No PB on my run this week. Came in about 45 seconds over. Today's excuses include - Catherine waking up at 4am, having a cough and a sore throat, starting my period yesterday and it being really cold Hmm

Have just snarfed a Mr Kipling French Fancy and a chunk of baguette and butter too as I was starving so more than replaced all the calories I used too!!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 06/11/2010 10:56

Ouch for the 4am wake up call.
My 2 have decided 6am is the new 7am due to the clocks going back and no amount of "go back to sleep it's the middle of the night" will persuade them otherwise. Sad

I have the evilest chest infection and had AB that looks like im allergic to, so was down the hospital last night. All good fun. I hate this time of year, we always seem to get ill.

Paul has took the children shopping and is getting Elizabeth measured for some shoes. She walks whilst holding just one hand now. Her face looks so proud when she is doig it bless her. Grin
He's just phoned me saying..
DH: It's haswells you want me to go to isnt it?
Me: No, clarks.
DH: ok so haswells then.
Me: No... clarks Hmm
DH: ohhh where's clarks then because im just outside haswells.

Give me strength. He's only lived in this town all his life!
