New thread everyone...!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Someone on the poncetastic christmas thread said they had made christmas cards with an angel on the front. baby footprint for the body and then handprints for the wings. It sounded lovely, although I know full well if we attempted it, it would just look like one big mess!!! I was wondering if I could do hand or foot prints, then scan it onto the computer then print them out somehow so I dont' have to do lots of foot printing.... hmmmm on the otherhand I have all my christmas cards from last year that I never sent due to having a baby!!!!!

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 19/10/2010 21:44

I remembered about Come Dine but had forgotten which week it was. Glad I haven't missed all of it, will try to catch it tomorrow.

Last year, I did handprint christmas cards with Alex. We did handprints in green printed fingers down on plain white cards, then added a star at the top and a few other round sprinkles over the rest. Looked just like Christmas trees :)

If Anna likes doing handprints you could be a bit more adventurous... White footprint (toes down)with a yellow/gold one (fingers down) each side and a pink blob at the top can be angels or a brown footprint (toes down) with a yellow handprint either side (fingers up) and a red blob make great reindeer.

Need to think of something to do with Alex and Catherine this year. Something they can both join in on...Confused

EthelredTheUndead · 19/10/2010 21:44

ooh that sounds like an idea, HerGHOUL. Might have a trial run of that one. Scanning sounds a good idea...can you imagine having to do 15 or something?!

You need to get your hand painty too. Hold his wrist with your clean hand and cup your painty fingers under his to hold them open. Place the heel of his hand where you want it then slowly slide your fingers out from under his hand as you lower it towards the card using your clean thumb to push his hand down from above. Does that make sense?

The trick then is getting his hand up off the card before he can scrunch his fingers up and spoil the print.

When Alex was very small, I drew a picture of an angel and cut out his face from a photo to use as the head. Couldn't decide if it looked cool or a bit creepy though.

LaDiDevilDiDie · 20/10/2010 09:53

Loving the xmas card ideas here! Will hopefully have a go over the half-term holiday, should keep dd amused at least. Might practice with making Halloween cards first until we all get a bit better at it!

HerGHOULPoirot · 21/10/2010 09:01

I'm going to let you all practise making cards then you can post pictures and I'll see if I'm brave enough to try. Good idea for how to do the hand printing though...

Took Imogen to the doctors yesterday about her poorly tummy and we've got to collect 2 samples and send them off (nice!), but he did say she didn't look like an 'unwell' baby as she shouted away and tried to 'help' rearrange some equipment and wires on his desk after crawling around the waiting room like a baby on speed with excitement at this new place to explore!!! She did however require 5 changes of clothes yesterday - I should have bought shares in Biotex...

Anyway after discussion with doc, we are trying to give her no milk for a day or two until it clears up completely. She did have some in the night after 40 minutes of back arching screaming when we dared offer her water instead so we gave her watered down milk half/half. She has eaten a whole, adult sized portion bowl of ready brek this morning and some toast and is back having a nap now. I actually think we had been giving her too much milk and she wasn't eating enough and it was a bit of a viscious cycle, so hopefully now we can get her back on track with her food and maybe even cut out that final night feed....

I am now off for half term, so no work for me until November - woohoo!

HerGHOULPoirot · 21/10/2010 20:26

Can you help me pleeeeeeease?

I have that lovely cake book that you mentioned and I want to make the Frog cake. I need a 2 litre (4pint/10cup) ovenproof bowl and a 0.2 litre (1 pint/2.5 cup) ovenproof bowl to make dome shaped cakes.

I have found this on amazon for the larger bowl, but can't find anything for the smaller one. Can anyone help me find some please?!?

Ideally I'd quite like them to match... but that I'll just take a second smaller bowl for now!!!

AmazingBouncingPoltergeist · 21/10/2010 20:34

Hello everyone!

The christmas card ideas sound great. I usually just let Jake loose with aload of glue and seasonal coloured glitter Grin

Elizabeth is getting on well, she can stand on her own for a couple of seconds now.

I fully intended on leaving a good long message on here but have seemed to become engrossed with ice road truckers... Confused
It's strangely good.

HerGHOULPoirot · 21/10/2010 20:41

Well done Elizabeth! Whenever Imogen tries it, grinning like a loon, she usually falls over in slow motion looking like a drunkard which is v funny!!!

Have to say I have been sucked into ice road truckers before now... once you start watching you can't stop!

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 21/10/2010 22:11

Herghoul - I went to a Jamie at Home party at SIL's last night and they were selling ovenproof mixing bowls in loads of sizes from enormous right down to tiny dip bowls. No help unless you know someone having pa party or want to host one though as they don't seem to sell them online as far as I can tell Sad Sorry

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 21/10/2010 22:16

Found one Grin

Not Jamie but that just makes it cheaper.

Oh and Hi ABFP Good to see you back.

EthelredTheUndead · 22/10/2010 07:53

What is this cake book that you speak of?!? I need to start getting inspired for A's birthday.

Good to hear from you ABF, and good news on Elizabeth standing. Anna is pretty good with that, and can wlk with a walker, but shows v little interest in walking with us holding her hands (IYSWIM). My mum and step dad had an argument last weekend about how soon she would (or wouldn't) be walking. Very amusing! [hgrin]

Gave her chicken yesterday, in a controlled environment [hgrin] and she didn't spew! Yippeee! That means it's back on the menu thank goodness!

HerGHOULPoirot · 22/10/2010 08:44

this is the book...

Wow on Anna walking - Imogen is happy cruising around, but like Anna not much interest in walking with us holding her hands

thanks Blathers off to look now...

HerGHOULPoirot · 22/10/2010 08:49

Just ordered a set of these - one 2L, one 1L and one 0.5L. I swear I searched on amazon for them and they didn't exist when I looked!!!!

Thanks again, can now start making some brilliant shaped cakes!!!!!

EthelredTheUndead · 22/10/2010 09:22

Have just ordered the book from Amazon. Thanks HerGHOUL!!!

HerGHOULPoirot · 22/10/2010 13:26

You're welcome although someone else (Lee maybe?) recommended it to me earlier on this thread so I can't really claim any credit...

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 22/10/2010 15:33

I just got 2 big boxes of Lego in Tous R Us for £29.99!!

That's Alex and DH sorted for Christmas then Grin

It's here if anyone else is interested in some. Noticed that they also had a similar Duplo bundle for under 4's while I was in store.

EthelredTheUndead · 23/10/2010 10:01

HerGHOUL, any news on Imogen's nappies? Anna had 3 soiled yestetday and has had two bad ones already this morning and she's only been up an hour..... grrrrr

HerGHOULPoirot · 23/10/2010 12:46

Yes, loads better - solid or at the very least putty like. We're reintroducing milk now, but watering it down so for example it should have 210 mls of water and 7 scoops of powder, but I've just been putting in 4 and will increase that to 5 next feed if no more problems before then and then tomorrow probably go back to normal if still OK. If she ever has it again, I will definitely cut out milk for 24 hours as it certainly seems to have done the trick... we've just given water (warmed in bottle as she has milk warmed slightly still) and dioralyte (for babies under one year packet and doctor said make 1.5 times volume eg 300 mls per sachet rather than 200 mls and we used the blackcurrant flavour (again warmed the water slightly) and she seemed happy to have that for the most part. She definitely isn't dehydrated at all - this morning her nappy was so wet, her bodysuit and grobag were also soaking wet. They have been on the drier side for a few days so again I think a sign of improvement.

I hope Anna's get better soon, it isn't the pleasantest (word?) of experiences I have to say changing her clothes 5 times in one day!

HerGHOULPoirot · 23/10/2010 19:31

If you don't mind, can any of you tell me if you feed your little ones (both milk and meals) at the same times each day eg do you always have breakfast at 7.30, lunch at ..., milk at... etc... If so what times do you do out of interest?

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 23/10/2010 19:56

We have a schedule but it's not ultra strict, it can waver by up to an hour each side if needs be...

Feed - when she wakes - usually between 5.30am and 6am
Breakfast - around 7am
Feed - around 9.30am
Lunch - 12pm
Feed - around 2.30pm
Dinner - 5pm
Feed - after bath time at 6pm, usually around 6.30pm.

Lunch, dinner and bath time are the most strict. Breakfast depends on when we've all woken up and how tired I am and feeds are the most movable. She missed her morning feed completely while I was out running this morning as she fell asleep before I got home and she didn't have her afternoon feed until 3.30 but then wouldn't sleep. Maybe I should be more strict with them too?

LaDiDevilDiDie · 24/10/2010 09:42

I have a bit of a routine but it varies depending u pon if I'm at work or not and school etc,

Feed upon waking unless ds wakes up too near to breakfast time.

Breakfast around 8am on a school day but can go up until 9am with more bf if it's a weekend.

If I'm at work he has a bottle at 10ish if not then I bf around then.

Lunch is usually 12.30

Feed around 2pm, if I'm at work ds gets a bottle.

Tea is at 5pm

Another bf after tea, if I'm at work late then he gets a small bottle feed.

Bathtime is 6.45ish, then bf until sleep. Again a bottle if I'm at work.

Ds still tends to have two sleeps in the day though sometimes he misses his morning one and then falls asleep pretty much after lunch!

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 24/10/2010 19:15

I've had a brilliant weekend.

Brother came down on Friday night and we had a good chat and catch up while DH was out having dinner with his Family. Me and DB did Parkrun on Saturday morning and both got new PB's (I shaved 1 min 5 secs off mine and now have a PB of 30.34. Just 35 more seconds I'll be running 5k in under half an hour which is one of my goals) Then Mum, both sisters and my neice came over today too for Mum's birthday and we had a lovely lunch (cooked by me) and a walk to the park for Alex.

It's been lovely seeing everyone but I'm now desperately tired. All that hosting and cooking made harder by Catherine waking at 5am every morning for the past 3 days. Camped on the sofa now. Pizza is ordered, Strictly is about to start and I'm not going to be moving until bedtime :)
