New thread everyone...!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Blatherskite · 06/10/2010 21:27

I used to see Carol Vorderman fairly regularly. To the point where she knew my name and would come and say hi.

And Craig Charles from Red Dwarf once asked me for a blow job.

Hope nappies get better soon Ethelred. Keep an eye on her wet nappies too if she's got the runs. If they get dark, she'll need some extra water.

Had to do bath time on my own tonight as DH was tied up with work. Managed quite well I thought. Did notice another blister on Catherine's gum though so it looks like she's getting another tooth through to go with the first. Have dosed her with Calpol and rubbed some Bonkela on the gum so hopefully, we'll avoid the 11pm screaming fit tonight.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 06/10/2010 22:42

Blatherskite, that is hilarious (about Craig Charles!) Did you say yes??! ha ha ha!

It has to be remembered that in the late '90's when I was at uni, Craig Charles was very famous both for Red Dwarf and cheating on his wife. I went to see him perform stand up (with my BF of the time) at the Students Union. I was in the 2nd or 3rd row so quite near the front but he asked me in front of the whole audience!!!

At least I have witnesses Grin

I declined but I think a girl I knew at the time took him up on his offer.

I have also been given £10 by Bob Symes (the old guy with the inventing shed on 'Tomorrows World') and been asked by Prince Philip what a car jack is for. Ooh and I was on Look North (regional news program) as a child. Was supposed to be on Blue Peter too but got bumped at the last moment and missed out on getting a badge Sad

There are a couple of others but you have to have a knowledge of obscure heavy metal bands to be impressed :)

I am impressed also impressed that you recognised JLS ABF. I am aware that there is such a thing but I've got no idea what they look like.

Catherine slept from 6.30 till 6am this morning! Our first ever full night!! Can I give her Calpol and Bonjela every night? Wink

HerculesPoirot · 07/10/2010 08:45

ABF - JLS, wow!!!!!!! I too wouldn't have recognised them individually but very impressed promise!!! And with everyone else's famous people stories. Hmmm..... I was on motor mouth (saturday morning tv) and embarrassed myself by pronounding the name of the highest mountain in the UK as Ben Nevi!!! We got through to the final and then my friend got gunged. Brother Beyond and Fuzzbox were on our show (neither that famous at the time!!!!). I still wear my motor mouth t-shirt in bed as a pyjama top (it was v stretchy!). Oh yes and I went to see Oasis with 5 friends in 1995 or 6 and had never heard of them at the time, but we all bought matching t-shirts at the gig and got photographed and were in Select magazine. Not sure these stories are going to win me any prizes...

Well done Andrew on the clapping and Catherine on the sleeping (I am a bit Envy of that, but know the troubles you've been having blatherskite so will just be pleased for you instead!) and all the dancing and everything else going on! I had a night out last night with work and took Imogen to work after picking her up from childminder and then DH came to collect her. One of my friends from work who hasnt' seen her for ages couldn't believe how tall and grown up she was now (his words) and having had no interest really when she was a tiny baby couldn't stop grinning at her as she grinned back at him!!!

We went bowling and I got to have some drinks last night - a rare occurance for me these days. Did move onto the soft drinks though at the end, my drinking prowess is not what it used to be!!!! And I came home and was in bed by 11 pm. Imogen is still asleep now (nearly 9 am), but I had to get up to let a plumber in so didn't get to enjoy the benefit of a rare lie-in!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/10/2010 08:52

Oh I only clicked who they were because of the hordes of hair twisting, eyelash fluttering teenage girls wearing JLS sweatshirts that were stood outside. When they first walked in I just thought, he's quite fit but rather overdressed with all the bling.,then I made the connection.

Imvery, very, very jealous of you meeting Craig Charles. I had a huge crush on him when he was in Red Dwarf in the 90's My mum and dad must of been so proud, when I announced at 10 years old I wanted to marry someone like lister... Hmm

Blatherskite · 07/10/2010 10:33

I used to make my Mum record Red Dwarf every Friday while I went ice skating! I loved Lister too. Craig Charles was such a let down.

Right, got to tidy, having friends over fr a play this afternoon even though lounge is still only half decorated.

Got school pics done today. Not sure I liked Alex's solo one (she said "what a lovely smile" but it looked more of a grimace to me) but the one of them both was lovely i think. Catherine was definitely grinning.

Meant we were late at school and she didn't go down for her nap until 10 but she's had 20 minutes so far so it's looking good

BlueChampagne · 07/10/2010 13:00

Sorry to hear Craig Charles was a let down - I like Red Dwarf too.

Conrad has just acquired tooth 6.

Lee, don't worry it was most definitely a one off lie in! She's usually up between 7 and 8. Although quite often she wakes up and will quite happily chat away to herself for 45 minutes!!!

Imogen is 10 months old today - that feels so close to a year!!! I can't believe how fast it has gone. She has another tooth come through - that's 8 in total now and she has a real toothy grin. She has started to let go and stand on her own for a couple of seconds - quite definitely on purpose too which is funny. She can also get up stairs, although seems to get bored after about 4 and then wants to go back down, but has no idea how to do so.

9 days left till Catherine is 10 months old! We're never doing it again either Lee - in fact DH has his appointment to get checked over at the hospital on Tuesday so they can give him a date for the big V!! I know we don't want any more but I'm still having a bit of a wobble about it.

Considering putting DS in pre-school for an extra morning (making 4) He's enjoying being out of the house and not having to be quiet for a sleeping baby and it's easier to get her to sleep in a quiet house. Feel a bit like I'm pushing him out though and worried that I'm not making the most of him being little while I still can. Torn.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 08/10/2010 20:53

i am loving all the 'celeb' stories. My other celeb spot was nick berry, who i saw twice! ha ha ha! Blatherskite, you are almost a celeb yourslef, all those people you've met!

I also loved red dwarf, that and newman and baddiel. Oh another celeb spot...I met him, Rob Newman. my friend and i met him after one of their gigs and we seriously nearly wet our pants, as we loved him soooo much! ha ha ha!

anna's nappies are slowly improving, but still not back to normal. And no sign of any blimmin teeth. we have been calling her 'two teeth'. Her crawling is really fast now and she can take quite a few steps with the walker too, so that's good. So, what she's lacking in the dental dept, she's making up for in other areas! ha ha ha!

HerculesPoirot · 09/10/2010 14:02

Morning everyone! First game back at netball for me this morning after about 15 months off and we won!!!!!! We are absolutely rubbish but enjoy ourselves, we didn't win a single match last season and only one the season before so this was a big deal for us! probably will be our only win all season though, but a good start.

Had an awful night with Imogen who woke up every couple of hours, not really sure why and obviously just wanted to be asleep. Hopefully tonight and the rest of this week will be better as dh is going away tomorrow with work until Saturday!

Hope you're all having lovely weekends...

HerculesPoirot · 10/10/2010 20:11

Hello, me again! Just keeping my promise to post even if I was the last poster...

The weather was soooo nice here today we went to the pub my brother is managing at the moment and ate roast dinner outside. I absolutely hate roast parsnips so was able to give those to Imogen to play with eat and she enjoyed a nibble on a yorkshire pudding too (after stuffing down her actual lunch!).

Dh went away this morning with work and isn't back until next Saturday - gulp! We've had some bad nights recently and some good nights so it's all a bit of a lottery... I think it is a combination of growth spurt, teeth and the end of her cough... I've been trying not just to feed her milk more than once, however this week I think I might just do whatever it takes to maximise my sleep!!!!

Blatherskite · 10/10/2010 21:02

I'm here too....

Catherine is still having a nightmare with teeth and naps are a bit precarious but night time sleep seems to be OK atm - so long as you think getting up at a few minutes to 6 every morning is good! We're dosing her with Calpol and Bonjela every night before she goes down which is definitely helping. She's so miserbale during the day though, very clingy and teary a lot of the time. Looking forward to these teeth coming through and giving the poor girl a rest.

LOL at being a celeb. I'm definitely not pretty enough for that! Remembered another one last night - Princess Ann - and I'm in a book too. Not one I wrote but one someone put me in. Looked for it on Amazon but it's not on there. Guess no-one wanted to read about me :)

Trying to decide whether to put Alex in for another monring at pre school. We added an extra day last week so he does Monday, Tuesady and Thursday now. Considering adding Friday too. He gets so bored having to be quiet while Catherine naps so it would be good for him to be out, playing and being stimulated for another morning but at the same time, he's only little for such a little time and I don't want him spending all of it away from me. But then it's only 3 hours and all his friends are doing 5 mornings. But I don't want him to feel pushed out....

Can you tell I'm torn!

HerculesPoirot · 10/10/2010 21:14

Sorry, I never responded when you mentioned that before. I think you've sort of answered your own question - it sounds like he'll definitely enjoy it, especially if all his friends are there. From all you've said before, you're really good at organising things to do with them so the time you do spend will always be really good quality time so he definitely won't feel pushed out.

Blatherskite · 10/10/2010 21:38

Blush forgotten I'd mentioned it before. Almost repeated myself word for word.

His friends all go to different pre-schools so he wouldn't be with them - but we couldn't be out with them either IYSWIM as they're all busy so we'd be home alone with him having to stay quiet for fear of waking a very light sleeping Catherine wich isn't much fun. She sleeps better when he's at pre-school probably because the house is so quiet. Maybe it would be best for both of them?

That's not to say he doesn't have freinds at school though. He often comes home talking about the other children. I got chatting to one of the other Mum's on photo day too and she asked if we'd like to pop over to the local park after school one day which would be nice. He littlest was born the day after Catherine so both of the children are the same age. Would be nice to have a 'friend' at the school gates too. It's just like being back at school myself with all the playground stuff. I never was very popular when I was younger and not a lot seems to have changed. I'm not one of the cool kids Grin

HerculesPoirot · 10/10/2010 22:13

I am never going to be one of the cool kids - but you're cool on here!!! Can you do it for a while and if you think it isn't working stop it? I'd definitely give it a whirl and see how it goes I think. But then again, I've only got Imogen and am secretly pleased I'm working for 3 of the days Paul is away this week!

LaDiDaDi · 10/10/2010 23:03

Goodness, it fels like I've been away for ages. So much to catch up on.

I'm racking my brains for celeb encounters but I don't think I've got any to compete though I did see Eileen from Corrie on the escalators in Debenhams the other week; she looked much slimmer than on TV and very trendy.

Ds's sleeping is still awful, feeling very Envy of you Blatherskite. The other night I was almost in tears when he woke up, for a moment I was tempted to leave him to cry but his little "Mama mama" was too much to bear.

The good news hear is that dp's anxiety is much improved. Last night we went out for a meal with friends and although he drove which meant that he had an escape if he needed it actually we had a lovely night Smile Wink tmi!

Blatherskite, I know what you mean about the school gate thing. Last week dd was so happy when I picked her up and told her that we were going to her favourite park after school. When she told her little friend the mummy said to very loudly "Well we're going to buy tickets for Disney on Ice, so that's much better isn't it?". Now I know she might have been saying it to just make her dd happy but it still felt like a bit of a dig. Happily dd has no idea about Disney on Ice so it all went over her head!

Blatherskite · 11/10/2010 07:49

Jealous of me where sleep is concerned!! Oh dear, things must be bad. Although we had another good night last night which makes 2 in a row. Started bath time at 6pm so she was in bed by 6.30 and she slept until 6am on the dot this morning. My tip, if I felt qualified to give one, would be to move bedtime forward so you're putting him to bed earlier. Sounds daft but apparently some of the issues with them settling properly can be that they're too tired so if you put them down earlier, before they're over tired, they settle better and sleep more soundly - and longer - so an earlier bedtime can lead to a later wake up.

I'd love an extra half hour in bed but I can't see an even earlier bedtime working here. DH would never get to see the children!

We need to work on naps too. Some days we get almost 3 hours, some days 20 minutes all day!! Another good reason for giving Alex the extra day at school I guess as Catherine tends to sleep better when he's not here. There's no reason why I couldn't send him then stop the sessions if we wanted. When I ask his he says he wants to go... Might give it a try

Not too bothered about being one of the cool kids at school - as long as I'm cool on here obviously Grin. All of the cool crowd seem to be a bit rough. I actually find myself head down and scurrying past them! It really is like school!! Hurrying away so as not to attract the attention of the big girls with the fags having the loud conversations about boys and the party at the weekend Shock

Alex's favourite friend is one of their children though - a little girl called Angel - lets hope they fall out before I end up having to invite her to a birthday party Wink

HerculesPoirot · 11/10/2010 16:18

sssshhhhh don't tell anyone but I had a crafty ciggie on weds night after a few drinks. Have to admit though pleasingly I didn't like it and only had half. Hopefully I won't feel like one again, but will see. Felt incredibly guilty though when I got home and saw Imogen.

Blatherskite · 11/10/2010 16:36

I have a feeling it would be gross but I still consider buying a pack every time we're in the corner shop!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 11/10/2010 21:05

hi all

marking my place for later. xxx
