New thread everyone...!

OP posts:

Yes Lee, we need pics of the Ewok cupcakes!! I love making cakes. I've stupidly joined Fellatio's Poncetastic Christmas thread and am now trying to work out how to make a replica of my own house in gingerbread complete with stained glass windows and lighting!!! Shock

Hope the new arrival is here soon for you.

Catherine was spectacularly sick last night. She started crying at 4.45am and I found her coated in sick. I ended up cleaning her up and then taking her back to our bed. We've worked so hard to quite co-sleeping but stripping her entire bed, and her and then sitting feeding in her smelly room was just too much at that time in the morning!!

The old TV sits in the corner of our lounge and we have a large set of shelves against the wall. We want to mount the new TV in the middle of the wall to keep it out of the reach of sticky fingers so the shelves won't fit anymore which means we need new furniture to hold all the stuff currently on the shelves. Plus, we're going to channel the wall out and bury some conduit so we can hide the cables between the TV and the mains/DVD/PVR - so then we'll have to redecorate too. So a new TV has now necessitated a total remodel of the lounge!! It is a bit crazy.

No stained glass unfortunately (imagine converted shoebox and you'd be closer!) but I thought stained glass would be prettier than plain. I'm thinking of getting some of those battery operated tea lights to light it from within.

I may end up being disappointed :)

HerculesPoirot · 25/09/2010 20:42

Oooooh now I want to make gingerbread houses for Christmas too! Must go and find thread...

Congrats Lee on becoming an Aunty again!

Blatherskate, hope Catherine isn't sick for you again tonight.

Blatherskite · 26/09/2010 07:34

Apparently, to make it properly poncetastic, it has to be a gingerbread representation of your own house! Some of the ladies on that thread have too much time on their hands! :)

No more sick last night. In fact, she slept from 7pm till 5.50am. We were up then so I'm glad I went to be at half 9 but it was a good nights sleep considering the past few...

Our house is a children's drawing dream. A rectangle with a window at each corner and a bright red door in the middle. I'd be hard pressed not to make the gingerbread house look like our house.

I may take photos so you can compare Grin

HOW MANY TEETH DO BABIES GET?!?!? Someone tell me it isn't many more... Imogen has 6 already and it would seem another one on the way... unless her cold is making her dribble and whinge a lot and not eat anything and take a lot of effort to get to go to sleep!

Oh no! Actually, this time I don't think it was teeth. Dh eventually rocked her to sleep and she slept for two hours this afternoon and when she woke up her head and body were boiling hot but her legs all cold. She had a temperature and didn't want to do anything and she was just so sad it made me sad to see her like that! Anyway, we have given her calpol, then a bit later calprofen and she went to bed fine after perking up and eating a litle bit. She is usually so active and just wanted to sit watching that baby mozart DVD. Hopefully she'll feel better in the morning. Those of you with more experience than me - should I check on her regularly during the night, or just before I go to bed and then leave her unless she wakes up herself as usual do you think? It wasn't very high temperature and she seemed better after the drugs at bedtime. I want to make sure she is OK, but don't want to endure her wrath if we accidentally wake her up!!!!

Blatherskite · 27/09/2010 08:12

Sorry no one answered you last night Hercules. I went to bed at 9.30 so I was asleep by the time you posted.

Just in case you have another night the same...I would check on her as you usually do (ie before bed) and then leave her until she wakes. Sleep is a great healer and she'll feel much better for getting as much of it as she can. If she does wake, check her temp again and give more Calpol if necessary. She'll let you know if she needs you, don't worry :)

I love your cakes - they are brilliant! I am so inspired I have just ordered a childrens novelty cake book so I can start to practise ready for December and subsequent years!

Don't worry about not replying last night - I did exactly what you all said and she was absolutely fine all night and this morning. Quite happy to go to the childminder today though and was perfectly happy all day so that was good.

I'm quite new to the cake baking thing really. We had some financial issues at work two years ago and our coffee and cakes that we used to be provided with each week were cut so I and some friends instigated a baking competition where each department baked cakes for the whole staff each week. As we started it, we all had to make lots of cakes the first week and I've since made a hen cake for my SILs hen weekend, but not got any more novelty than that so need to work on it!

Blatherskite · 27/09/2010 20:50

I've cheated the past couple of years and bought a cake from Costco then just decorated it. They're only £11 and there is no way I could make a cake that size in my oven and definitely not for that little money.

I'm fancying Russian dolls for Catherine's birthday cake. Not sure why, just the first thing that came into my head. I'll make invites to match.

Blatherskite · 27/09/2010 21:39

I know I've said this before, but I think my periods are on thier way back. For the past week I've been blown uop like a baloon and today and yesterday I've had a horrible ache!!

I'm almost hoping they come back just so it'll go away!

I've never been a hugging a hot water bottle type of girl but this is awful!

That's brillaint Lee! We'll have to post pics of our birthdays cakes when we do them too - especially if we both do russian dolls! :)

HerculesPoirot · 27/09/2010 22:11

Thanks Lee - that is the very book I ordered earlier so glad to hear you like it. I very much doubt that I could make it look that good though!!!

I also love your idea of Russian dolls - we have a lovely set that are part of our christmas decorations! Will try to think of something original though... then again...

Hope you feel better soon Blatherskite (just realised I've been calling you blatherskate - soryy!).

Do I get the first thread pregnancy scare?

Period pains and bloated, swollen tummy were joined by nausea this morning and, well toilet troubles Blush

Luckily pg test says no and Doctor said he couldn't feel anything and he thinks it's just a persistent tummy bug. Very persistent! I've been feeling swollen for 3 weeks now and sore for almost a week!!
