Happy Birthday hendo!

It's so quiet on here these days! I've been busy trying to sort out Catherine's sleep. Was going quite well as of this morning but tonight's not so good. Hoping it improves now she's finally asleep

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 05/09/2010 21:13

Happy birthday Hendo. Hope naming ceremony went well and the teeth weren't too bad.

Good luck for tomorrow too.

Anyway, better go and get back to ironing on name labels! Will write more later in the week.

Happy Birthday hendo, hope that the naming ceremony went well and that tomorrow is as good as it can be!

hendo77 · 06/09/2010 19:48

Thanks everyone! Well this might be a long post so apologies in advance...

Naming ceremony and gathering afterwards at our house was lovely and everyone enjoyed it and we had lots of lovely comments about how nice the ceremony itself had been especially as people didn't know what to expect. Imogen was brilliant during the ceremony, watching everyone speak and squawking every now and again and grinning at people. However she was quite whiney again for the rest of the day with her teeth, although had some lovely short periods of time playing with other children. She wouldn't however eat anything or go to bed.

Basically she was up and down all evening, then screamed, and screamed and screamed and screamed. We eventually got her to sleep in our bed about 1.30 am for a couple of hours then she woke up, had a little scream had some milk but did go to bed. We ended up with about 3 hours sleep before having to get up to get ready for work.

Work was fine, although I haven't been that exhausted since she was about two weeks old. Imogen loved being with the childminder and was quite happy although only had one nap and 3/4 of a bottle of milk. She was pleased to see me which was nice, but clearly would have been happy to stay longer. Came home and she's been in bed for an hour so we're hoping for a better night tonight...

Al - hope Catherine's sleep was good.

Lee - we have calpol, calprofen and teething gel, all used and stretched to their fullest doses yesterday as she felt like she had a bit of temperature too!!!

Ethelred - hope your day went well and Anna was happy.

Catherine's sleep was awful but I think, marginally better than poor little Imogen's!!

But she's napped really well today and is tucked up in bed so I'm hoping for a good night tonight - especially as (after an hour and a half comfort feed last night!) she is now not allowed into our bed anymore so any feeds she does want, I have to do sat on a chair in her room and it's going to be squished (she's in the box room so the chair is wedged in between the cot and her drawers) and cold and I will want to get back into my nice, warm bed.

Fingers crossed for a better night for you too hendo

hendo77 · 06/09/2010 20:54

Thanks Al - she's been asleep since just after 6.30 so I have hope that if she wakes she'll just drink her milk and go straight back to sleep... it's such a lottery isn't it? I'm going to bed myself in 10 minutes I think. Hope she doesn't want to feed too much in the cold for you.

LaDiDaDi - I meant to ask earlier how things were with your DD?

I think that ds's sleeping might be sort of getting better, he wakes later and later for his first feed, eg 5amish having slept from around 7.30pm but then we all have trouble getting back to sleep. Hoping that eventually this will pass and he will push on and go through the night!

Dd just seems different to other children, she's pretty bossy and I interpret this as her simply having a lack of awareness that anyone else might have an agenda of their own iyswim. She also gets very fixated on small things rather than seeing the bigger picture, she doesn't seem to understand when she is annoying other children and she has very little fear of strangers. She also seems to find direct eye contact difficult and she uses some phrases out of context because she has learnt the phrase rather than the meaning iyswim.

hendo77 · 07/09/2010 19:24

Hooray indeed Lee! Hope your week went well in the end and you kept busy. I reckon your dh will extra appreciate all you do now, which obviously wasn't the point, but is a brucey bonus!!!

LaDiDaDi - I would definitely speak to the school and outline your concerns as you've listed them above. It should definitely put your dd on their radar early on in the term.

Glad sleeping is getting better - she slept from 6.30 - 7.30 last night with just a quick bottle at 10 pm. Brilliant. More of the same tonight hopefully, especially as I now seem to have a sore throat already!!!!

OP posts:
AlCrowley · 07/09/2010 21:50

Catherine was up at midnight, 3am and up for the day at 6am today - which is good for her

Working on getting better though...

Glad you've got everyone home Lee.

Hope the school can help you with DD LaDiDaDi.

Sounds like Catherine's awake. Maybe not a good night tonight after all Sad

hendo77 · 08/09/2010 10:23

I think leaving Imogen with the childminder was the best thing for her sleep I've done so far!!! Last night she slept 630 - 730 with a bottle at 12.15. I went to bed at 9 pm last night as I've ended up wtih sore throat already!

Al, hope your night wasn't too bad after all...

OP posts:
AlCrowley · 08/09/2010 11:02

My night was awful. Catherine fed at 9.45pm, 1.30am and then screamed from 2.30 till 4.30am Sad

She's refusing to nap this morning too.

If only I could justify a childminder Wink

BlueChampagne · 08/09/2010 13:11

Hi Al - we've had nights like that too - you have my utmost sympathy! Have posted on your sleep thread too. Hope tonight's better.

hendo77 · 08/09/2010 19:54

Oh Al, I hope it gets better soon. Is it teething at all do you think? Imogen woke up and bf every two hours when the first two teeth came through, she also refused to nap for very long in any one period during the day. The second two came through after we'd moved to the bottle so she didn't seem to wake up so much as I don't think the bottle is a comforting for her. She did however still nap badly and went right off her food. As you know latest tooth caused all manner of screaming on Sunday and she has only just got back to eating properly today. If it is a tooth, I hope it appears for you very soon.

I am now finished work for the week which is lovely!

OP posts:
AlCrowley · 08/09/2010 20:06

Teeth would be better than it just being her stubborness as at least then there is a chance that it'll all resolve itself soon rather that us having to battle it out with her.

Those bottom too teeth have been visible moving up her gums for months now. They do seem close to the top so maybe that's what's causing all the problems? She's been really happ all day, has had a great time playing with Alex's LEGO this afternoon, but she had her morning nap late and missed her afternoon nap completely. She also didn't eat very much dinner and took two attempts to get to bed. I'm not holding out much hope for tonight to be honest, just thankful Alex is at Pre-school tomorrow so I have a chance for a nap myself.

I've slathered her gums in bonjela just in case though.

Do you have any plans for your free half of the week hendo?

hendo77 · 08/09/2010 20:34

Good idea about the bonjela Al. When we first got Imogen to take the bottle at 6 months we used bonjela before a feed as we thought she was teething. In hindsight I don't think she was, but I think it numbed her gums a bit so she didn't mind the teat so much maybe!

My best friend who lives in australia has been back since Christmas last year, but goes back home next Tuesday. So we're going out for a last lunch tomorow as she'll be doing lots of family stuff over the weekend. Then seeing some family in the evening and of course our gymboree class tomorrow and swimming friday and probably seeing my parents lots before they go back to new zealand for two months in a couple of weeks time! Oh yes and getting myself better organised for next week's food and all my lessons!!!!

LaDiDaDi · 08/09/2010 21:00

Oh Al, surely one day all of the babies on this thread will sleep through the night!

Dd had her first day at school and seemed to enjoy it, though only a quarter of the class were in because of the way that they are starting them all. She's back again tomorrow with everyone so I hope that goes well for her too. I've been very sad the past few days and I had thought that I'd be weeping today when I took her to school but actually it was much easier than I'd thought it would be. Spent my free time online shopping for clothes, now awaiting my Boden and ASOS orders Smile.

Good evening all! Hope everyone is well and all babies and elders are doing good.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with Catherines sleeping Al. Hopefully she'll start going through soon.

Elizabeth is crawling and trying to pull herself up.
She is also very vocal, when you hand her a toy she will say "ta" and she also waves goodbye, even if we're not going anywhere mind but progress is progress! Grin

The wedding went without a hitch, I got very drunk and am now constantly checking the photographers website to see if the photos are up!

Ive finally bit the bullet. Ive just this minute finished completing the disability living allowance claim form so everyone keep everything crossed that they'll accept it.

Im thinking of giving up after the operation anyway. Im pretty much working to pay childcare and since being back at work the pain is alot worse. Im hoping I'll get the DLA just as a bit of extra help if I do quit.

I really enjoyed planning the wedding but im not sure there is much call for wedding planners where I live!

AlCrowley · 10/09/2010 13:10

It can't help that your boss is a bit of a twat too ABF. Making you lug things up and down stairs even when you're not hurting can't be doing your back any favours.

I hope the DLA comes through for you.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 10/09/2010 14:34

Hi All!

Hope the sleeping improves for you Al. it must be an absolute killer.
And hope you get sorted with the DLA ABF.

This week has been ok, if not a bit manic. Anna seemed to settled better in nursery as the week went on, so was pleased to hear that on wednesday she spent most of the day playing. she still cried when i dropped her off and when i arrived to pick her up, but all in all, am fairly pleased with how it's gone. Work, was ok, same old same really. Just as though i had never been away, but my nob-head boss seems to have given me more work than i ever had before i went on maternity! Anyway, he's an arse and everyone knows it, so I won't let it bother me!!
The days are very long though now i'm back at work, as have to be up at 6 and leave the house at 7 to drop DH off at station, then drop Anna at nursery and then drive up to my office which is about 45 mins away so means I am in the car for almost 3 hours each day! It is a good job i am only working 3 days because i don't think could stick it full time!

As anticipated, anna has come home from her first week at nursery full of cold. When i went to pick her up on wed night, she was sitting playing with a little boy who had great globules of snot coming out of his nose. And of course, anna now has them! Lovely. we were supposed to be swimming and then at tumble tots today, but haven't been to either as she is just miserable and has slept most of the day. At least it's given me chance to do some housework, as the house was an absolute tip.

Hope you've all got something nice planned for the weekend.
