New thread for us to chat about our little jekyll & hydes...

Danny is currently stood next to me rearranging my DVD collection - I will be doing a work out to charlie & lola tonight apparently, while DS1 will be watching Billy Blanks Taebo with his pre-bedtime cup of milk and DH's history docu is hiding out with Diego in the city of lost toys...

A had SALT today and it's been confirmed there definitely a significant problem that needs intervention ... He starts his first block of sessions in august and she reckons they'll do two blocks back to back to start with as he needs a lot of help and they want to get him started while he's still young. He's hardly using his mouth muscles at all. So bad news but at least he's getting help now.

SilveryMoon · 22/07/2010 20:04

Oh tulips but like you said, at least it's been spotted early and he will get the help he needs.
x

littlesez · 22/07/2010 20:07

A massive thank you again to everyone for your support over the past week. I am very very grateful. Thanks xxx

We are talking more now and making plans for going for dinner sat night for his birthday, see what happens. I miss him so bad

TITS whats SALT?

Calico1 · 22/07/2010 20:25

TITS sorry to hear about that - can they give you any idea of how successful the intervention is likely to be? Bearing in mind he is so young and you / they have picked up issues so early I assume they can help a lot?

MrsY · 22/07/2010 20:33

Glad to hear you're making progress littlesez. Oh, and SALT is speech and language technician.

TITS, I'm glad the problem has been identified and he will be getting help. It's definately early days, so I'm sure in a year or so's time, he'll be about par with his peers. He's obviously focused his attentions on the muscles that help him dance on the coffee table!! !

Calico we have a spare harness for the Tripp Trapp, including the litte white clippersw. 'Tis hiding from me at the moment, but give me a day or two and I should be able to root it out. Think we are friends on FB, so if you message me your address I'll wizz it to you as soon as I've found it.

SM when do you find out the marks for your second assingment?

MrsY · 22/07/2010 20:39

Oh, found it!! It's beige/white stripes.

SilveryMoon · 22/07/2010 20:49

MrsY I got the results earlier today and passed

I am knackered! Should go to bed now. I had a late night last night watching a film I kind of wish I hadn't seen and have been at the play-gym with the kids all day.
Tomorrow is a town day to pay bills and do some shopping and then I have my friends dc's from 2-6pm.

Jacob's birthday the week after next, can't believe he is going to be 3 already
Any ideas for pressie's?
My parents are getting him a drum kit

MrsY · 23/07/2010 07:17

Awesome SM, but will the drum kit be at theirs or yours?!!

In the past I've bought a brightly coloured bag or box and filled it with crayons, pencils, paper, inkpads and stamps and crafty stuff. Tends to go down well. Or maybe a dressing up set? Is he a creative sort of boy? Or more into trains, planes etc?

MrsY · 23/07/2010 07:19

Oh, and congratulations on passing! Fab!

SilveryMoon · 23/07/2010 07:48

MrsY The drum kit will be here at our place. (I must be crazy to agree to that)
Jacob can be creative but already has loads of arts stuff really.
He does like planes, trains, cars and so on.
My friend has got him a really cool t-shirt that says on it 'I'm a Jacobasouraus' with a picture of a big dinosaur. Another friend of mine is getting him another thomas dvd as his favourite on atm is driving me crazy since he figured out how to turn the tv on at the socket and work the dvd player.

Dp wants to get him a wooden balance bike, you know the ones with the proper tyres but no peddles, but he has a plastic one that we never take outside and I think that at 3 if you're going for a bike, they have the coordination to learn to peddle, so a proper one would be better, but I am not ready for that yet.

dinkystinky · 23/07/2010 10:25

Did big post but computer ate it. Summary of it is

  • Tulips: huge hugs. A is a bright wee thing so I bet he'll love the SALT sessions and come on in leaps and bounds - and its starting really early on so with any luck he'll be at the same stage as other kids when they start at preschool. DS1 is having speech therapy and its doing wonders for his confidence (well the private therapist is, he really doesnt like the NHS one..)
  • LittleSez - glad you and DH are still talking. Hope he's getting some help from his sister with what to do next too.
  • SM - congrats on course. You're doing brilliantly! Does J have a scooter? If not, can totally recommend it as a third birthday present. but one with 2 wheels at front.

Calico1 · 23/07/2010 12:59

MrsY thanks so much for digging out your spare Tripp Trapp harness. If you are sure you don't need it I'd be grateful. Thought I might get away without using one and just relying on the bar thingy but Lilian is such a wriggler that I think she'd be out of the chair in a flash. Dinky has kindly found a leather crotch strap (sounds kinky!) to replace the mouse chewed one so hopefully I'll be all set.
I'll fb my address to you.

SM great news about your exam results!

katieblirdsnest · 23/07/2010 15:49

SM - well done, clever clogs. you're racing through it!

tulips - big hugs for A. it must be so horrible to hear something like that but it is good they're focussing on it now so hopefully it will be a mere blip in his history.

littlesez - best of luck with things with your dh.

apparently there have been tears as dd left reception for the end of school year today. from the teachers, kids and parents (i shed mine this morning as i wasn't doing pick up this pm). dd's main teacher was in tears so dd ran over, threw her arms round her and said 'don't cry miss x' which of course made miss x cry even more.

i'm off now for a couple of weeks. france tomorrow and then back to uk but visiting friends and ending up in wales for my sister's wedding.

we break up, we break down etc.

have lovely time whatever you're up to.

xxx

SilveryMoon · 23/07/2010 17:08

Was gonna get a scooter, but I really don't think we'll be able to use it much what with us mainly using buses etc.

My friend got him an early birthday present today. A little blue buggy that he LOVES!! You should have seen his face, he ran round town all day with it.

had a call earlier about my job. Start date is 6th September, I need to find out more details next week.

Got a letter from ds1's nursery, they are visiting here on the 10th sept and he starts on the 28th sept.

thephoenix · 23/07/2010 21:52

hello, any room for a newbie (or an oldie in disguise!)

I've been away for a little while but have now arisen from the ashes after a recent flaming/roasting/stalking incident (tries out new winges and flutters feathers)

Have managed to catch up with all your news

TITS so sorry you are having problems with A but at least you have been referred and are heading in the right direction. Is it to do with his tongue tie? H isn't speaking much and he has (mild) tongue tie so am wondering whether I ought to get it checked out here.

littlesez was so sad to read your posts from last week but am so pleased you are talking. I've always believed one of the most important things in a relationship is communication so you are off to a good start. Fingers crossed for you.

KBN have a fab holiday. Very

SM well done on your studying/exam results and also job offer. Hope planning for J's party goes well.

dinky hope work not too bad and you are catching up on sleep. I read today in the Mail (god, I'll be flamed again) an interesting article about parents of under 2 year olds and sleep deprivation. It says we need a minimum of 5 hours uninterrupted sleep to be able to function properly and lots of little odd hours here and there don't really count. Clearly the journalist doesn't have kids!

All manic here. DH went back to work so I'm home alone with 4DC. DC1 has been doing a mini pupillage this week. So pleased I managed to swing this for him as he really landed on his feet and has been in Court all week on a child care case with the head of chambers. Also, I tapped up another solicitor I know (ex boyfriend who owes me big time) and he said he'd let DC go in and help out from time to time and emailed me yesterday asking if he could go to a con with counsel and then a hearing on Mon]ay on another child care case. Just picked papers up today and have been doing some light bedtime reading on a really fascinating case. Am a bit of DCs opportunities as in the 12 years I did family law I was never involved in huge cases like these. Hopefully will look good on the Oxbridge application in October

Things pretty crappy on the back front here (if that makes sense?) Bad back has seriously deteriorated (will be the bloody ironing as feared) Ended up seeing a chiropractor on Wednesday and had scary diagnosis. Took along my xray from post surgery 10 years ago and he did new ones and compared and thought initially he had wrong ones. Since surgery spine has curved from one side to other and since 2003 when I last went to that practice one leg is now 3 inches shorter than other (was 1 inch difference last time) I've not lost a bit of my leg or anything like that (think I'd have noticed) but my pelvis has rotated over the years and as a result one leg appears shorter than the other. Was shocking looking at the comparison of xrays and I was in tears. Partly tears of relief that I've finally had confirmation that my back really isn't right. Have had terrible pain for years now (only day I didn't was when I had H and had a spinal block!) and have felt at times like no one believed me. He said the muscles around my (lower) spine are pretty non existent and I have pretty much no movement there (cannot bend and pick things up from floor at the moment)

I left there in tears Wednesday and went back today and am having to have intensive treatment, 3 times a week and he is hopefuly that he can help me regain some of my movement and eventually reduce my pain although he made it clear I will never be 100% again. He also implied that the major surgery I had (metal pins etc) potentially did more harm that good. Ouch! (physically and financially at 32 quid a go!)

anyway, enough of me moaning, hope everyone else is doing ok x

littlesez · 23/07/2010 22:07

hi pheonix, course there is room for a newbie your poor back really hope the therapy helps xxx

TulipsInTheSunshine · 23/07/2010 22:31

Sorry your back is in bits phoenix. Glad to have you back with us though i'll post properly tomorrow... Using my new phone atm which is cool but can't do paragraphs!

MrsY · 23/07/2010 22:41

Hello lovely pheonix, so sorry to hear about your back. That sounds really nasty. I have bad joint pain and my back was bad when I was pregnant. It's really awful. Search your area for student osteos/physios/chiros. We have European School of Osteopathy in Maidstone where 4th year students from the continent come over for a years practical work. They have tutors with them so all very safe (they saw M when she was young to help with her colic) but only costs 15 squid an hour.

Hope things start to improve soon.

I meant to reply to you post about sing and sign, but never did. The franchise is about £550 a year, and they do all the training and lessons plans for that, plus of course you get the props etc. I think that's not too bad, and although my name is down for some BSL courses, I haven't done any yet, so the training S&S offer will be really valuable. It's all some way in the future, but it's nice to have a 5 yr plan!

Calico1 · 24/07/2010 11:36

Morning and hello Phoenix!
God - your back sounds awful, poor you. Hope the intensive treatment can ease it for you. I've had mild back pain since having DS 3 years ago and I know how draining it can be - sometimes I feel like I am 80ish not 40ish. The only thing that has helped has been one-to-one pilates with a coach who specialised in back problems, though can't afford it now I am not working much. Oddly, my 2nd pregnancy eased the pain significantly (must have been those lovely hormones) but that's not exactly a useful suggestion!

Dinky I got the leather strap this morning - thanks so much - you're a star!

Don't know what to do with myself this weekend...
I am CHILDFREE!!!! DH has taken them both to his parents in Worcestershire so it is weirdly quiet. I am supposed to be working but can't help enjoying the freedom just a little bit . I was a bit tearful kissing them goodbye this morning - first time that Lilian has been away from me for a night.....

thephoenix · 24/07/2010 12:24

calico at child free weekend. Enjoy it and make the most of it.
I won't really have a child free few hours until DH gets back in around 4 weeks. Will have died of exhaustion by then.
H has terrible cough and cold and finally got him settled asleep in with me at 5am this morning then up at 7.30am. Feel like a zombie.

dinkystinky · 24/07/2010 13:41

Afternoon all. Phoenix - lovely to see you in your latest incarnation. Poor you re your back - though sounds like the specialist you're seeing is hopeful of being able to do some good and relieve some pain. Poor H with his cough and cold - given the night you had no wonder you feel like a zombie.

SM - honestly, we use tube and bus lots and DS1's scooter still gets tonnes of use so wouldnt let that put you off the scooter (and is a hell of a lot easier on a bus with a maclaren than a double buggy/maclaren and buggy board). Though suspect it would lead to all out warfare between J and Luke if you did get it as both would want it (I get that lots with J and Danny)...

Calico - glad you got the strap alright and enjoy the peace and quiet. I'd enjoy a lovely long bath with a glass of wine listening to music and reading a book to celebrate some child free time -not that I get much of that!

Our oven has packed up - DH does want to repair it...

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 24/07/2010 14:34

he wants to rely on the hobs to cook everything (inc all the fish and chicken I have in the fridge) for at least the next 6 weeks...

or to buy a £40 mini oven to sit on the side (which at least Danny wouldnt be able to reach into I guess)...

OP posts:
MrsY · 24/07/2010 15:21

How come, Dinky? Is it a cashflow thing? You'll be having lots of stews, I guess. We were without an oven for a while a little while ago, but it was winter, so we had lots of soups/stews/spag bols!

Do you do much oven cooking/baking? Does your microwave do oven-y stuff?

SilveryMoon · 24/07/2010 16:51

Hello.
Hello to phoenix glad to see you xxx
