BusyMissIzzy · 02/08/2010 15:53

Fingers crossed for you Pixie!

I'm just back from a shopping trip, and Isobel puked all over herself and me when I went to feed her. This was immediately after I'd changed her into her 'spare' vest, as it was soaked through with dribble. Fortunately, I'd bought her some new vests and bought myself some new jeans (I'm still miles off fitting into pre-pg jeans, and one pair of jeans is Not Enough). So I will definitely be asking the HV about the sicking.

MandaHugNKiss · 02/08/2010 18:09

Just back from our trip a couple of hours ago and although I've caught up I'm drawing a blank at anything I want to say (there was plenty) other than Oh my goodness, will you just test already pixie?!

evitas · 02/08/2010 19:40

Pixie oh my god! Fingers crossed x

siamesecatwoman · 02/08/2010 21:20

On silly iPhone again so no shout outs except for pixie - you are killing me! Test! How do you feel?
DD is driving me crackers- anyone else having this prob and have any tips? Since becoming a pro at flipping back to front she does it constantly- changing, nap time etc. She used to go down very easily for naps but now I'm finding myself going in again and again to unflip her as she can't do it herself and gets frustrated. Any ideas how long this will go on for? Ie surely front to back flipping is just around the corner.. Please say it is! Or maybe she'll start to feel comfy enough to sleep on her front?

BlueyDragon · 02/08/2010 21:48

Flying post just to say BMI you have my sympathy - Alex has turned into the vomit comet and I permanently smell of sick. I think the valve thing is right and he just overeats or is sick when he bends over (he does the stomach crunches just like Isobel from the sound of things). Also when he gets tired it gets worse. DD was the same and it passes but can really get one down.

Also just to say that Alex has definitely got his first tooth. Poor baby, I wondered why he was gnawing on everything including my boobs, and wasn't settling in the evening. Thank goodness for Calpol!

Weather in Cornwall has varied from pouring rain to lovely sunshine. But I'm with my lovely in laws and have been having family parties so the weather's less relevant for me.

Will try and catch up properly when back in the land of the internet...

ValiumtheConqueror · 03/08/2010 07:09

Just popping in briefly- things a bit mad here at the moment. BabyV seems to be getting up at 5am with tummy cramps but doesn't seem to be doing a poo or need feeding. It's bloody annoying. I can't complain though: according to my scales, she's finally back to her birth centile, into 6-9 month clothing and 'crawling' all over the place. I say crawling- she only goes backwards but can rotate and navigate back to get a toy she's really keen on. Watch this space for the going forward She's also eating loads. i think the combination of eating a lot and moving a lot is responsible for the almost constant smell of vom that follows me around. Much like Bluey and BMI it seems to be endless, so much so that I dug out an old bedspread and used it to cover the sitting room carpet whenever she's playng. It's easier and cheaper to bung in the wash when the smell gets unbearable than our sitting room carpet. But she's doesn't seem unhappy and I do remember this happening with DD1: she was nicknamed the Queen of the Voms for ages

Bugger- she's wedged under the sofa. That'll teach me to brag.....

hello to all:
fingers crossed for Pixie
would love to know how Sarah stays so perky
waves to others sitting in exile in the Vom corner
hugs for Arcadie, Rinders, Anna and anyone else who needs it. I'll be back soon. I hope.....

Sariska · 03/08/2010 09:01

Stomach valve immaturity is almost certainly to blame. I heard a lot about it from the gastro paed my DS saw about his silent reflux. Most children see a big improvement by their first birthday and often sooner, particularly when they can remain upright unaided.

Staying with my mother at the moment. Exhausted everyone at the zoo yesterday. Today's activity of choice involves tractors.

sunshinesarahandco · 03/08/2010 10:44

awwwww pixie

DizziDoll · 03/08/2010 21:19

Pixie. I suppose the bright side is that you get to do lot of trying again .

BMI, what did your HV say?

IWCAS, how is the sleep going? Any improvement?

Sarah, I am very . I would pay a lot for a 6 hour stretch of sleep

DD, DS and I went out today with our new second-hand Phil & Teds . I bought it on ebay on Sunday and sent DH out on Monday to pick it up. Being able to walk at a normal pace when out and about is GREAT.

DH is off to Germany for work tonight, so I am home alone with both kids asleep. I have the TV on loud as I can't stand the silence.

scooby26 · 03/08/2010 22:21

Night all, off to Rhodes in the morning! Sleep vibes and sun to all x

BusyMissIzzy · 04/08/2010 07:28

Sorry Pixie

Quick post from me as we're off the Belgium in a couple of hours.

Dizzi HV wasn't much help, said it could be because she's putting her hands in her mouth. But she agreed that since she's feeding and sleeping well and is otherwise happy it's probably no cause for concern.

Sariska hope you enjoyed the tractors

Sarah that's great that the sleeping and weaning are going so well. We tried solids (well, purée) for the first time a couple of days ago, but it all came back up!

scooby have a fab time in Rhodes.

Hope everyone else is well. Wish me luck for 5 hour drive (eek!). Back next Monday.

DizziDoll · 04/08/2010 08:54

good luck bmi. I assume you are going by eurotunnel... We have done that countless times (albeit with only a 90 minute drive in the uk) and it has always been fine. I am going alone with 2 kids in a few weeks time though, and have to admit that i am a little nervous about that.

Is everyone on hols? It's so quiet here...

Arcadie · 04/08/2010 15:54

no time to post from summer camp but wanted to say Pixie i'm so sorry.

sunshinesarahandco · 04/08/2010 17:31

hey arcadie, how is camp?

Arcadie · 04/08/2010 20:26

Going really well although DS1 has been a bit of a handful. Simeon is basically mobbed by teenage girls every day! He's loving it. Carlisle weather has been pretty good too. Much better than in previous years. I'm thanking God for that because 3 kids in a log cabin in the rain is no fun!

FlipFantasia · 04/08/2010 21:33

Hi all,

Things have been a little hectic with us - in a good way - so my MN time has been limited. But have been lurking when I can so have kept up a bit with the goings on.

Pixie sorry to hear your period arrived but onwards and upwards, here's to you getting lucky this month

BMI have a great time in Belgium! Hope there was space left for you and your DH's stuff after you packed for your DD . Hope DD's sickness eases off.

Rebecca and IWCAS how nice you got to meet up!

Sarah I agree that you're very upbeat, it's lovely! Glad to hear Elliott is going so well with the weaning and sleeping and being generally a happy chappy.

Sariska hope your DD's sleeping gets back on track soon. And hope the tractors were fun!

Dizzi hope you got on OK with your DH away. And good news on the P&T front. Enjoy it!

Bluey was snickering at the vomit comet . I'm as would love to be in Cornwall! Am so ready for a holiday but still a while to go before we head back to Ireland...

Scooby have fun in Rhodes! I remember when you booked that...can't believe so much time has passed that you're there now!

Arcadie hope you're enjoying camp.

Siamese I'm also starting to look at nurseries, so I really liked your FB status . And yes, I do think your DD will figure out how to flip front to back soon. I spent the day with a friend who's son (5.5 months) couldn't reliably roll from front to back until last week but had been going back to front for a while. Your DD will get there!

Valium i love love love your FB pictures of DD2's crawling (love your pictures of DD1 too of course - all that baking makes my mouth water!). I'm both enthralled and a bit nervous about when my DS starts.

Smac hope you're having fun in Scotland!

OK, I know I've forgotten folks but I've been writing this post on and off for several hours now so a big hello to everyone else - Mummyelk Pacific Manda Heckle Ang Donttry - hope all mummies and babies are doing well.

Things grand with us. DS is being a super cutester and I'm enjoying him enormously. He's sitting up quite well, tripodding it, and likes being helped to hold onto the sofa etc so he can then stand himself up. I'm loving all the reaching for stuff and all that. I'm in the midst of making him a little sensory/discovery play box thingy - collecting bits and bobs like sponges and wooden spoons and making a little sensory board of fabrics and the like. Any excuse for a little glue and scissors! His sleep is still not great but the co-sleeping means I don't really keep track of how many wakes there really are (but unfortunately still plenty of nights where I see every hour!).

I've also finally managed to start losing weight, after seriously losing nothing from about 2 weeks post-partum (DS is now 20 weeks - and if one more person said to me "Don't worry, BFing makes the weight melt away" I fear I may have snapped, as it just wasn't happening for me!). I can only thank the D&V bug from last week as it shifted 4 pounds. I then switched into proper GI mode (and have been using the outdoor gym in the park while on walks with DS) and have lost another 4 pounds. Enough for people to start saying things like "Did you get a haircut? You're looking well" which, after months of feeling more than a bit dowdy, is great! Only another 2 stone to lose though...so not counting my chickens (or eating much cake!) just yet.

OK, off to spend time with DH rather than on the laptop!

lots of love to all.

FlipFantasia · 04/08/2010 21:34

Evitas meant to add - how's Edinburgh now the festival's kicked off? One of our NCT friends is a comedian and so they've all decamped up there for the month.

MummyElk · 04/08/2010 23:04

Evening all....
to all, rkd was thinking of you camping today (as it chucked it down here) but didn't realise you were properly protected from the elements by a Log Cabin?!!!
pixie hugs and crack on girl, well done for even considering it (the sex, let alone the babyness!!)
flip and IME the weight really falls off once you STOP bfing - which is a pita but somehow it works. But that's not to say give it up!! I like that added bloom you are carrying
I don't have long so seriously, i have read and digested and like hearing about the various antics babies are up to...
went to see a breastfeeding counsellor this evening. Thea's been incredibly windy from the start and whilst we've been blessed with chubby thighs and no real bfing dilemmas (no mastitis/thrush etc, touch wood) she has to really snack because she needs winding within about 4 minutes, and doesn't want to go back on the breast for ages (and it hurts her ). I finally decided it was possibly her latch. ANYWAY. I think i'm right. Bfing lady took me back to basics, and better tummy to tummy, latching on, different hold etc and she seems to be feeding better. Foremilk can irritate the tummy a bit, agitate reflux etc etc, whilst the hindmilk is softer and fattier on the tummy and easier to digest...
She also said she's not sure that she doesn't have a tongue tie.... but says as long as she feeds ok it might not affect her until she starts speaking. not really sure what to say about that but still.
Anyway also talked to her about becoming a Peer Supporter so the cogs are turning on that too now, which is good.
And Nicest MMMer Award for August goes to...... iwcas!!! whose response to my text about sling advice was: "give me your address and I'll lend you my sling for your holiday".
HOW NICE IS THAT?!!!

big love all. thea christening this weekend. should be fun.
told you time was short - off to bed for me

hecklephone · 05/08/2010 11:11

Helloooo! Haven't posted for AGES but I have been lurking like a big lurky thing.

However, I can hardly remember a thing about what's going on with everyone so you'll all have to make do with a big HELLO!

We've been pretty busy here the last couple of days as we had DD1's 4th birthday on Tuesday and it really was a fab day. We all went to the safari park then off to a restaurant for pizza and chips for tea, then back home for cake. She was a wee star all day and so excited she couldn't get to sleep until 11pm . We paid for it the next day though - SO tired and grumpy!

We're totally out of routine at the moment though, because DH is off work (he's a teacher, so looooong holidays!) and it's messing with me a bit, because we can't seem to get our asses in gear to DO anything until about lunchtime! Drives me mad, because usually I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to do, left to my own devices, when I get up every morning! Still, it is nice to get some time together as a family, although poor DH doesn't feel like he's getting much of a holiday, having to run around after TWO children (and me)....!

I fell into the trap early last week of thinking I'd 'cracked it' when it came to DD2's sleep - as she was going down in the cot fairly early in the evening, and the dream feed was working well. However, it seems to have gone a bit pear-shaped again and she's very tricky to get down in the cot, even after the dream feed. Plus she's not really lasting very long - waking around 2/3 am. So now I'm not sure whether to persist with that or give it a rest and maybe try again after a wee while.

Blah blah blah, sorry I'm rabbiting on about ME again. But like melk says, it's great to hear what everyone else's babes are up to, tales of standing, eating, laughing etc. They're at such a cute stage now, I just want to eat DD2 up when I look at her!

Gotta go, time is ticking til the wee one wakes... hope to check in again soon x

siamesecatwoman · 06/08/2010 10:20

ooo it is quiet here. Not so chez siamese, where I have a throat nose thing and feel quite poorly and DD clearly has it too as of last night when she woke to feed at 11.30pm and then would not settle back down so I brought her to bed with me and kicked out DH. She fell back asleep after some singing (her not me) and then fed at 2 and 5 as normal but both times had to sing herself to sleep. At least she doesnt cry. But this morning when I woke up at 8 I felt like Id been hit by a bus - all achy, so i gave her some calpol in case she felt the same! Shes all snotty, Yuck.

Melk wonderful video of Thea. Made me Grin DD has also found fake coughs and sneezes funny. And finally Ive found her tickle spot :)

Valium your DD2 is so strong! Did DD1 crawl so early?

Bluey and scooby wish I was in Cornwall or Rhodes! Feel like it has not stopped raining in months here.

dizzi how are you doing without DH?

BMI hope you are having a great time and the drive was ok.

Smac Im glad you got there in the end! Where exactly is 'home'? if you dont mind me asking. We took a baby making trip to tobermory last year (didnt work) and visited Iona.

Flip great weight loss news! And thanks to Melk for making me feel better that mine will drop off when I finish feeding.. except that might be a year away? :)

Melk I have also volunteered for a peer support course starting in september. I feel oddly passionate about it, especially since my sister became pg and hinted she might not even try to BF. (but is having home birth and reading ina may?! I cant figure her out)

DD and I have signed up for baby signing in september too. Has anyone done this with previous DC? theres a video on you tube which is gobsmacking of a 10 month old communicating really well. I did once babay sit a 13 month old who 'told' me it was bed time and she wanted her milk and to brush her teeth in sign. Made things a lot easier!

On the weaning front - DD grabbed and sucked some toast yesterday and didnt vom so Im looking at offering her finger foods regularly when we both feel a bit better.

Hope no one else feels as shitty as me! Im off for a nap while DD naps

MandaHugNKiss · 06/08/2010 16:26

Feeling pretty smug right now (I know, I know, one should never feel smug but just hear me out!).

Dropped my laptop on Monday and the damage was a screen that resembled a kaleidoscope. Feck, thought I, that's gonna be an expensive repair (the laptop itself was £1200 (albeit three years ago)).

Finally got around to using DS's laptop to check online for some repair centres near me. Nothing desperately close by, and all the nearest charged a call out fee/collection fee plus initial consultation. I was looking at £90 before they even added part & labour costs.

Wondering how much a replacement screen would be I did a bit more research. At least £135 for a new screen. It so happened that one of the sites selling the screens had a step by step guide with pictures showing how one would change the screen themselves. So I bit the bullet, ordered a screen and decided I would give it a go myself.

It arrived this morning and I did it, I did it! Currently typing on my own lappy with it's shiny new screen!

Noticed a 'new' thing with James the other day; all his newborn hair had already fallen out and he was growing some new dark fluff. But the roots appear to be looking quite blonde. Looks like he's turning fair, which seems odd to me with his dark eyes and eyebrows!

Flisspaps · 06/08/2010 20:48

Evening ladies - have missed about two weeks so not even going to attempt to do a big name-check - must try harder. Have been keeping up better with those of you on FB though.

Pixie sorry about the period, what an arse.

Arcadie Glad you're having a lovely time on camp

BMI Saw your FB status about the sickness, hope the HV has an answer for you.

IWCAS See you've booked a holiday - Good Times!

Nothing much to report here, DD still rolling over and then getting cross about not being able to get where she wants. She's not sitting up yet but is doing a rather good supported slump using one arm to prop herself up for a few minutes.

DH is feeling ill - stomach churning/acid reflux/occasional sudden stomach ache. We were meant to be out for our wedding anniversary tomorrow but I think the only place we'll be heading is the docs :(

sunshinesarahandco · 06/08/2010 21:41

hey everyone, still here reading away=

lovely to hear about babies doing a variety of things now, what happened to the tiny babies time is going far too quick!

those on fb will know from my status yesterday that my son harry (5) fell into a lake yeterday when we were out feeding the ducks, we were on a fenced off raised platform had fed the ducks,i called harry over to go he turned tripped and went head first between the wooden fence into the water- luckily i reacted quickly and got him out before any probs occurred, the poor boy looked petrified, no idea how deep it is but it was scary! he is ok, thank goodness, i have hurt my neck and shoulder getting him out though! i bet he will be extra careful in future- bad mummy here once i knew he was ok- i bust into laughter just couldnt hold it in- it was laugh or cry and didnt want to do that we were being strared at enough!

not much to add Elliott is nearly sitting and loves to be up right watching the other twofighting playing!

have a great weekend everyone x

ps- icwas- fab news on your 1st family holiday x
