post too early. Some people have managed to get internet there but I'm not sure how often I'll be posting. Probably more than at the moment!

DizziDoll · 30/07/2010 23:52

The inventor of the expression 'sleeping like a baby' was clearly childless or had enough money to pay for a full-time nanny.

evitas i hope you are totally recovered and will be able to enjoy the weekend.

pixie grrr indeed. I would love to get a double buggy but dh is resisting. We are managing with a buggy board for now but ds is often in the sling and he is getting heavy. Any good cheapos about that you know of?

bmi i have hired a career coach to help me figure out what i want to do. Doing career coaching is an option that appeals at the moment although the prospect og retraining and starting from scratch scares me.

Thanks for the suggestions for my friend with the premature baby. I will be sorting out something for her.

Quiet here isn't it ?
pixie why do you think Quinny don't do any twins/tandems? Seems strange doesn't it?
I am so tempted by the new zapp but we've just upgraded our car so don't really feel I can splash out on a new unessential buggy right now.
I'm having a BF/weaning wobble right now.
So far I've had plenty milk and only ever fed from one side and Baby G has been thriving but in the last 24 hours it's as if a button has been switched and I have a seriously hungry baby. I fed her twice in the evening from both sides and lost count how many night feeds we did - again both sides required. My boobs feels so empty normally she feeds one side only so I know that the full one is what she will have next. How long will it take for my boobs to respond to this new demand?
She is so not ready for BLW, she is way too wobbly even in her bumbo. I don't know whether to try her on some baby rice or baby porridge or pureed carrot or something. I didn't do any puree with DD1. I was hardcore BLW and shunned all puree! She did have yogurts with loaded spoons and never took to porridge at all so when she did get into breakfast it was shreddies and other cereal she could pick up.
My instinct is just to go with boobie as it is more nutrious than any puree so if she is hungry that is what she needs but last night was baaaad and I'm wondering if something more filling than boobie milk is required although I've read enough stuff on parenting forums to know that solids does not equal sleeping baby....
Okay I know I'm wittering on here I'm just feeling indecisive and as usual DH has far more important things to think about
To add to the confusion we are heading off to Scotland tomorrow on our holidays and I know there are shops in Scotland but we are off to the Hebrides and there isn't much in the local shop so yes I can puree my own carrot etc but no Plum organic 4 grain cereal packets blah blah blah and she won't take a bottle so formula isn't the solution either.
Please come and help a Smac!

siamesecatwoman · 31/07/2010 21:46

Smac I'm iPhone posting so not a long one. . I'm so glad you've posted this I think we are going through the same, after a good two weeks last night was hideous with feeds at 9, 12, 2, 5 and 7, all full feeds. And I can't find any reference to a 20 wk growth spurt? But that is surely what this is as it continued today. Stick to your plans to wait another month, I am. Your boobies and mine should be meeting demand by tomorrow.. Dd gagged and threw up the tiniest bit of banana I gave her last week.. She just isn't ready.
FX for tonight for all of us!

Oo didn't look too far thread on 4 month spurt
Thanks pixie me too

SmacsGonePotty · 31/07/2010 22:33

I'm now wondering if it is tooth related. She cut her first tooth 2 days ago. It's only just through, not much to see but you can feel the rough ridge with your finger tip and there is white below the gum right beside it so tooth #2 is coming soon too. She is fussing at the breast as if she is coming to terms with the new feeling in her mouth. Then again it could be fussing as there isn't much milk coming out. So far I've had no supply issues and my let down is ferocious so she usually gets a good squirt in the face but now with empty boobies she isn't getting that gush....
I read somewhere that baby rice has no nutritional value and I think I just have that stuck in my head. So when you start BLW milk is still the main food group and the carrot sticks and broccoli etc are just for experimenting with.....
Anyway I'm off to bed now and will ponder further....
Thanks for the advice though ladies, it's good to bounce ideas around

MummyElk · 31/07/2010 22:39

posting cos you've fallen off my Threads i'm on thing..
and big hugs to all hungry/non sleepers we too have one of those [hmpf]
but equally i've been out this evening with friends and whilst i definitely am not tipsy DD2 is making me pay for it - what is it with kids knowing you are going out?!! Both of them were acting up for DH when i left (bless him he shoved a G+T in my hand and told me to go get ready and ignore the noise) and have been Acting Up since i got home!! hoooow Roood!!!

so more tomorrow when i have time. big love to all

DizziDoll · 01/08/2010 00:25

Pixie thanks for the links. I am still tempted to get a phil & teds on ebay and sell it once we are done with it. I will hav a lookout for the next few days and otherwise go for the safety first one.

Smac I am having exactly the same issue. I have also been feeding from just the one side and have a very strong let-down. Lately I also feel 'empty' but I am putting it down to a growth spurt and am trusting my body to adjust soon (it has been about a week now and things are starting to feel normal again) .
On the other hand, if baby rice or the likes do the trick, then why not... Enjoy your holiday!

We went swimming with the whole family for the first time today. DD and DH have been keeping up the usual weekly swims for the past months but I have been too tired to join them with DS. It was really great! We dunked him under the water and he reacted exactly like the babies in the video that was posted a few days ago. He loved it!

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

Why does no one tell you about the 4 month thing??!!
Smac - the power of boobies to adapt never ceases to surprise me, just as I think I am going to have to give up bf the boobs rally and meet my ds demands!
Iwcas - at the number of times you were up last night but yay for getting some time to yourself.
Spent weekend at PIL, they do drive me mad with their constant questioning of whether DS is actually hungry/tired in response to me suggesting he is one or other! They make me feel as if I am completely neurotic and Molly coddling him. They are sweet though and I did get waited on so can't complain. I won't be following their suggestion of brandy on gums for teething though!!
iPhone space now run out arrrgghh

BusyMissIzzy · 01/08/2010 21:04

I am a hairy trucker. There, I've admitted it.

DH is currently outside investigating the source of an insect infestation in our nursery A few dozen teeny little black flies crawling about; they seem to be coming in from behind the radiator cover.

Glad to hear P has been helping out with R, iwcas. And that's lovely that you met rebeccad.

siamese, ang and everyone else who's mentioned the 4-month growth spurt, I think we may be experiencing it here too. Not so much with night feeds, but during the day Isobel seems to be feeding more or less constantly. She literally finishes one bottle and then she's eating her hands because she's hungry again/still. She's also very sicky at the moment, more so in the past couple of weeks than she has been before. Anyone got any ideas why this could be, and is it something I should worry about? It's not affecting her weight, she's happy enough, but I'm getting through half a dozen vests and muslins a day, and constantly wiping puke off the sofa/floor/my jeans/the cat (ok, not really the cat). I think I'll mention it to the HV when I get her weighed this week.

Hope everyone else has has a good weekend

BusyMissIzzy · 01/08/2010 21:05

has had, even.

sunshinesarahandco · 01/08/2010 21:46

hello everyone, we went for a family swim today- dh didn't come as he is still nursing his wounds but i did drag my dad along, harry my 5yr old is having swimming lessons and his confidence is growing so much he swam a width of the pool with just a float, not bad after 4 lessons! dd is just a dare devil and was jumping in etc- DS2 really enjoyed his swim too and has slept much of the afternoon he must have been exhausted!

hope everyone is well, very jelous of your meet up icwas and rebeccaad!

Sariska · 01/08/2010 21:47

I think we might be having the 4 month growth spurt too. DD continues to be a one-sided feeder but is demanding her one side a lot more frequently than before. She's also refusing to sleep in her own bed at all, even though she's been starting the night there for weeks. This means she's going to bed when I do. Hence, no child-free time at all.

Rather to hear of more meet ups, although enjoying the possibility that, for all you know, I could be the hairy trucker .

Hope tonight is better, IWCAS, although very glad to hear about the help P is giving you?

Have you identified the insects, BMI? We hhave a bees nest in our garden at the moment, which is a bit worrying, especially as ds is fascinated by bumble bees. He even keeps telling us that there's one in his hair (and an owl in his bedroom, which has to be chased away at bedtime...).

DizziDoll · 01/08/2010 22:02

Quickly as I must get some sleep.

BMI Could it be that DD is not really hungry but that she is eating because it comforts her for something else? I was once told (though not sure if there is any truth in this) that the stomach valve is not 'closed' until babies are almost a year, which means that if babies overeat, they will just through it up...
Is she teething?

IWCAS: also jealous of meet-up. Is there anyone in SW London? I hope the sleeping improves tonight. I saw every hour of Saturday night too.

[Big Wave] to everyone else

Night night

DizziDoll · 02/08/2010 08:04

Must have been really tired last night. I meant 'throw it up' of course.

We did midnight, 2,4 and awake by 6. [zombie emoticon]. And DS is going for jabs today

rebeccacad · 02/08/2010 08:18

It was wonderful to meet IWCAS who is indeed not a hairy trucker, but a rather fabulous Mum. Her DS is super cute and very wiggly.

Sofya was well behaved but I disgraced myself by forgetting that money needed to be exchanged for coffee and merrily wandering off back to my parents leaving IWCAS to foot the bill. Baby brain clearly not gone yet.

I'm booking my appointment today I promise - thanks for all the nagging. I will report back when I go. If you don't hear from me, maybe another nagging session is in order? You guys are splendid at it!!!

Will check in properly later but have to do something about the state of house now we're back from our trip to birmingham...

evitas · 02/08/2010 14:59

hello ladies

Siamese thank you for the link. DS is almost 26 weeks so I'm not sure if he's going through a 4 or 6 months spurt... Although he's already eating solids (puré) he stills awake a couple of times during the night...

IWCAS glad that P has been helping you so you can have a bit more of rest.
Very of meeting up with Rebecca
Rebecca did you book your appointment?

BMI possibly is nothing special but check it with HV

sunshine we also went to swimming pool yesterday. DS has lost his reflex and he didn't enjoy being dunked. Apart from that he was happy

Smac enjoy your holiday here in Scotland. The weather has been rubbish (as usual). DS doesn't like baby rice on its own. I think it's because is to blend. I always add some fruit to make it tastier and he loves it. The HV told me that BF babies like tasty food because they got used to a variety of flavours in our breast milk

Dizzi go for the Phil and Teds. I love mine

Hope everyone is well
x
