Iwcas, that's hilarious but very very embarassing! He must have appreciated the view or he wouldn't have knocked again, surely?

Welcome BWD, can you bake? This is key on this thread...

DH thinks MN is the fount of all evil and makes me paranoid. I have explained the difference between constructive lunatics such as can be found on this excellent thread and the destructive ones found elsewhere, but he remains suspicious.

No news on my cousin's baby, it's going to be a long time before full effects are known I think. Will update you all when I know.

Pixie, isn't your DS2 the superbright one? Just goes to show an inauspicious start isn't everything. Horrendous for you though - was the mugger ever caught?

Alex v grumpy today. I keep thinking it might be teeth as there's lots of hand chewing but I can't see anything. Grrrrrrr, just when everything was nicely settled.

DD is snoozing on the sofa, Alex is snoozing by my side and DH is safely parked with the Formula 1 babysitter. Better go do all the things I meant to do today!

hi all
sorry completely been sort of lurking but not really had much to post and effing knackered so decided i was better being a Quality not Quantity MNer for a bit...

IWCAS i also laughed at your fbk status, nicely written, lady, and just Very Funny. Poor curry bloke. Made me reminisce about a boob outage last time with DD1 - to cut a VERY long story short... On motorway, DD1 (about 5mo) screaming like a banshee, run into a traffic jam, me in fast lane. Everyone stops. Everyone gets out . "Big fire up ahead, not going anywhere for a bit". Melk glances at screaming baby and makes decision. Runs rounds, gets baby out, feeds her. Glances up. Cars are beginning to move. Melk throws baby in car seat, runs round to drivers seat. No keys Runs back to baby seat. Realises keys not there. Rummages and find keys shoved in back of (her) pants. Runs back to drivers seat. Gets in. Puts key in ignition. Realises Boob. Is. Still. Out.

BWD Welcome and hope we are what you need and that you add some much needed sanity and wisdom . I don't know much about baby groups in USA but my cousin lives in RI so I'll ask her for some pointers.

pacific i know you won't get to read this but we are really and truly missing you and hope life is treating you ok. lots of love

highchairs whilst I do like a good bit of tripp trappery I have to say i've never managed to convince DH and why would i when the wonderful IKEA Antilop is a fraction of the price and pretty cleanable. Ours is getting an outing very shortly.

DD2 is a joy. really. Today she also found her feet siamese and it's been v cute. She also nearly rolled off her beanbag, DH caught her (centimetres from the patio floor...) but it scared the Living Daylights out of her and took really quite a long time to pull her back.

OH and i forgot - last time i posted was Wednesday and I was saying i felt rough, yada yada like pg etc. Well, NO i haven't tested (really, there's no point) but YES it wouldn't be a bad thing, am still broody as hell. just hoping the coil does its trick for a bit whilst I regain some sanity/life back. Am NOT done with two though. I love my girlies to bits but there's definitely another one in there. And yes iwcas i was well enough to enjoy, er, a few drinks on Weds night and frankly, bloody loved it. had a great time. huzzah for lovely friends! got home, talked at DH for, er, some time, crawled into his side of the bed whilst he fed DD2 some expressed milk and promptly passed out. What a fab parent I am

anyway better go. ohhhhh only 9 minutes(ish) left of those flipping vuvuzelas..... bliss.....

donttrythisathome · 11/07/2010 21:19

Hiya all

Elk love the sound of the night out!!

LOL at all the boobs hanging out.

Welcome Bookwormdad. Yep you more than welcome! My DH is going to stay ay home one day a week once I go back to work. Hey maybe you should start off your own group in the US - put a notice in the library or something?

Your son is so gorgeous Evita.

I went camping this weekend with my NCT friends and all the babies. We had a campfire and all and it was lovely. Until all the babs woke up at the crack of dawn...arghhh....Still will def do it again.

Sariska · 11/07/2010 23:32

Quick hello from me. (Really should be sleeping.)

Very jealous of nights out. None here so far.

PMSL at boob stories. Glad it's not just me. (Mine involved the postman getting an eyeful as he walked up our garden path in full view of the living room window (blinds open) just as I was interrupting DD's feed to dive across the room to stop DS doing something or other - forget what.

BWD - my DH is a p-t SAHD - 1 day a week. (Although I'm still on mat leave so he has yet to work out the logistics of juggling 2 small children by himself.) He doesn't have a SAHD network (luckily for him he has his mother close by instead) but I guess that matters less for just one day a week. If you're looking for get-out-of-the-house activities, have you thought about seeing whether there are any baby swimming classes you could go to?

Right, must sleep while the going is good.

sunshinesarahandco · 12/07/2010 09:34

BusyMissIzzy · 12/07/2010 10:46

Morning all, quick post from me while DD sleeps. DH's boss is on holiday this week so I managed to persuade him to stay home for an hour while I jumped around like a sweaty loon did some aerobics. I'm trying very hard to lose my baby weight (which I've affectionately named my "Isobelly" ). It's slow going, and hard work in this bloody hot weather, but the scales are moving in the right direction. (Manda I'm living up to my initials by discussing weight).

sarah I hope you managed to rescue the rug! That's nice that your DS is excited about school

Hello and welcome BookWormDad. Santa Barbara is a lovely place, I'm very envious of you living there. I've been to that part of the world twice (drove down the coast from SF to LA), and I'd happily live there if I got the chance.

IWCAS if you're thinking of getting a Jumperoo, Boots have 20% off atm (£75, down from £95) plus you get Advantage points. Free delivery also.

I'm also loving all the boob stories I only express 3 times a day so there's less opportunity for inadvertent flashing here.

Uh oh, Isobel's awake and grizzling. Waves, hugs, sleepy vibes and virtual teething gel to those that need them

Arcadie · 12/07/2010 12:15

Just put up photo of Simeon (the big gormless one) with his 8 day old cousin!

sunshinesarahandco · 12/07/2010 12:53

awwww arcadie beautiful picture!

the rug was saved, it will dry !!!!lol at least it was only water!

spent my morning de cluttering the kitchen cupboards a job that was well over due!

BMI- do you feel better after your aerobics?

Flisspaps · 12/07/2010 14:31

Afternoon all

Welcome BWD

Have finally found the FB group so have applied to join - is that one of you lovely ladies in the profile pic?

No boob stories here, I feel quite disappointed that I can't join in! Bonjela and calpol still the saviours of the Flisspaps household, wish these teeth would just come through. Spent the weekend at the ILs house, as usual they were very excited to see DD and spent 2 days fussing over her, which is lovely for them at first but results in her getting overcrowded and very very upset and she won't calm down until I take her upstairs for a bit...then she comes downstairs and the whole debacle starts again. SIL's nephew was there too (7mo) and he's lovely - a real solid little boy, DD looks so dainty in comparison.

Looking forward to the summer holidays here, DH is a teacher so he gets 6 weeks at home with DD...although that means I've got no excuse for not getting on with my final OU project

Arcadie · 12/07/2010 15:42

Flisspaps that's me at 41ish weeks with my first DS!

Will join you asap.

MandaHugNKiss · 12/07/2010 16:05

RKD That picture is priceless! Simmy seems to be that she's finding him so

Lovely lunch in strada with my best friend and her daughter (she's finished with school now, being a year older than my DD). I think I'm strada'd out though - that's the third time I've been there since friday!

evitas · 12/07/2010 16:20

Arcadie loved the picture

BusyMissIzzy · 12/07/2010 18:05

Isobel rolled off the sofa this morning, onto laminate flooring I just put her down to get her bottle that was warming in the kitchen. When I came back through, 10 seconds later, she was on her front and teetering on the edge of the sofa, and I didn't manage to get to her before she went over. She bumped her head and I was worried she'd hurt her legs as well. She cried for ages, the poor thing ( I took her to a local walk-in centre to have her checked over just in case, but she seems absolutely fine. I was terrified though, really shaken. I'm feeling better now, but at the time felt like the worst mummy in the world. I was really scared that she'd properly hurt herself. She'll be going on the floor from now on, or in her cot.

P.S. Lovely photo Arcadie, your niece's expression is excellent and evitas the video of your DS giggling is super cute.

BusyMissIzzy · 12/07/2010 18:06

That rogue grin in there was supposed to be a by the way, I'm not that heartless just crap at typing.

sunshinesarahandco · 12/07/2010 18:12

OH bmi that must have been scary! glad she is ok! she isnt the first and def wont be the last to do it i will always remember my ds1 rolling off my bed

Flisspaps · 12/07/2010 21:02

BMI The fall has probably shaken you up more than Isobel - glad she's ok

Arcadie lovely pic

I've put some pics of DD up there for you all to peruse - what lovely babies you have

BookWormDad · 12/07/2010 21:31

Thanks everyone for your kind welcome and your suggestions about groups and activities, I'll certainly make some enquiries about swim classes and church groups. Failing that maybe starting my own group might be the way forward.

Bluey my baking skills are somewhat basic, although I did bake my own bread (without a breadmaker) before we moved here. DW is a vegan so cakes etc have to be egg free. Have tried a few things in the past, my pineapple and ginger cake is passable

BMI That must have been so scary for you. I'm always terrified that DD is going to take a header off the furniture - especially when I manage to get her naked on the changing table before I realise I don't have a clean nappy to hand.

Manda DD has not so much 'found her feet' as 'found her foot', she clings to her left foot for dear life, but has no idea that her right one even exists. Have tried standing her up with support, but she can only manage a second or two.

hecklephone · 13/07/2010 13:21

Hello, am typing from my sick bed . We're still in NI and I've caught tonsilitis from my mum, or possibly my DH who had it first. Yuk. Feeling weak and wobbly but a good bit better than yesterday. It's a total PITA though - the weather's good and I'd like to be getting out and about, but hey ho. We've had to postpone our ferry home, too, til Saturday but that's also partly because DH's car brakes seem to need replacing . They're making a very strange noise which he claims has only just started but I'm sure we heard well before now when driving at home. Again, . Anyway, the upshot is we have to enjoy Mum's home cooking and some extra help with the kids for a little while longer. Hey, and indeed, ho.

ARCADIE oops, sorry didn't mean to shout! Arcadie love the pic, very cute.

BMI glad Isobel is ok. I still leave Robin on the sofa occasionally but I should probably stop now as she's beginning to roll onto her side a lot and has managed to roll once from back to front. I had to pick her up quite quickly though as it happened while I was washing my hands in the bathroom and had set her on the mat briefly. She, of course, rolled OFF the mat onto the tiled floor. I was so excited but also didn't want a bumped nose on the tiles so lifted her. And she hasn't done it since, so was obviously a total accident!

ENjoying the 'flashing' stories too, although I think IWCAS definitely wins the prize for the best 'boob inadvertantly hanging out' story . My DH laughs at me because he often turns over in bed at night to find himself face to face with an exposed mammary because I often fall asleep while Robin is feeding, she falls off and I'm too unconscious to tuck myself back in

Melk also quite jealous about the night out. We've been trying for a week to get out for dinner to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary but due to various illnesses it ain't happening. And my other mum friends are trying to arrange a knees-up but I fear due to irregular bedtimes and BFing that I may not be able to fully participate.

However - Robin has taken one or two more bottles in the past week which is good . Freedom is beckoning

Arcadie · 13/07/2010 13:26

Simeon slept through. 11-7:30. Sorry for brag but I just had to tell someone who understands how truly beautiful this is. (DH spent from 7 - 7:30 when we finally woke him fretting that he was dead. )

BusyMissIzzy · 13/07/2010 14:33

Yay Simeon!! If he can do it once, he can do it again, so fingers crossed it continues Arcadie I can sympathise on the fretting, Isobel occasionally has an unusually long nap and I have to keep checking her. Especially after yesterday's head bump

Heckle sorry to hear you're feeling poorly, and while on holiday no less. Are you taking anything for it? Good news about the bottles though.

BWD a passable pineapple and ginger cake sounds great. In my experience, any cake is better than no cake

Forgot to say, sarah, I do feel better after exercise. In this hot weather it's a bit exhausting too though. I've always found exercising easier than cutting back on food (although I'm trying not to eat too much rubbish atm as well). Did have some success in the past with calorie counting as well though tbh.

missedith01 · 13/07/2010 15:44

Sympathies BMI - mine has had two blows to the bonce so far - his dad left him on an armchair and went to fetch a bottle ... returned to find no.1 son chewing carpet. I was feeling a bit superior until a few days later when I managed to whack him with the aquarium bit of his aquarium bouncer when it slipped out of my hands.

IMHO cuddles and cake is the only remedy for the guilt ...

BlueyDragon · 13/07/2010 16:41

Go Simeon!

PMSL at the boob out stories, hilarious.

BWD, any cake is fine.

Alex can definitely roll, in fact he slept on his front last night. Trouble is he can't get back again. Don't think it'll be long though as his favourite pastime is the half sit up.

He now goes to sleep well in his bed, but isn't good anywhere else, like if we're out. Any suggestions on how to improve this? It's not a major thing as the bed sleeping was the important one, but it would be nice not to have to sprint away from friends' houses!
