More positive thoughts for your cousin from me Bluey - and good look with the house sale and move - exciting!

Rebecca your cousin's son seems to be dealing with things so well, the brave wee man. And your cousin seems to be handing things so well too - great idea to be clear about when's good to visit etc. Glad you got your head around the pre-course reading - I can barely read a library book these days!

Scooby DS rolled from front to back at just over 12 weeks and from back to front on the day he turned 13 weeks. He's always liked tummy time though, and has been able to get up onto his side since about 10 weeks. But your son standing holding onto the sofa at 18 weeks is super impressive! My little fella (16 weeks) likes standing but I don't think he'll manage that anytime soon. Every baby is different as Bluey said - some don't crawl, some crawl for ages etc.

DS is currently snoozing in his cot...so I'm off to snooze alongside him read some more of the BLW book

scooby26 · 09/07/2010 23:24

Evening

bluey Congrats on the new arrival. No matter what the long term prognosis a new arrival should be cherished and toasted. One step at a time.

Has anyone spotted the March 2011 thread? Exciting to think it's starting again for a new bunch.

Hope you all have a restful weekend. Myself and DS might actually get to see DH soon given the current movements in Rothbury. I have a friend whos husband is in the firearms team and her 3 boys haven't seen their dad since last weekend.Hoping for a safe conclusion x

ClimberChick · 10/07/2010 06:05

Morning ladies, have a request to make:

I'm actually over the Feb thread (as was LO's due date) but she was born in March. Anyway, DH is now a SAHD while I go to work and we've just moved to California where there arn't the sit around to talk and drink coffee groups like there is the UK. It's a bit of an ask, but I was wondering if he would be welcome to join your thread. He's always wondering if LO's behaviour is normal etc. so I thought it's be good for him to it is. I don't however want him reading my posts on the Feb thread , and we would have a arrangement where I'm not allowed to read this thread.

I understand that you may find it weird to know that there was a guy lurking so if you think you would find it uncomfortable please just tell me. Doesn't matter if its just one of you.

Thanks for taking time to read
Climber

ValiumtheConqueror · 10/07/2010 07:15

Climber- so long as you warn him that we are a bunch of nutters, we'd be glad to frighten him silly give him the benefit of our cumulative wisdom

Bluey- doing my best in the prayer department.

RKD- congrats on your gorgeous niece. You'll meet hers before I meet mine!!

Scooby- I spotted the thread. Gave me a heart attack BabyV did the rolling thing a few weks ago and now goes backward across the room and round in a circle. She's [counts on all her fingers and toes] 19 weeks (I think- nearly 5 months anyhow!) But standing unsupported holding the sofa is well beyond that. Some kids don't bother with the crawling thing- maybe yours is one?

Very jealous of London meet- I'd have been there but I no longer have the bliss of doing what I want when I want have a toddler

Thinking of you, PD and other lurkers.

Also thinking of regular visitors and people I have overlooked (don't want to leave anyone out!!)

Off to the seaside today. Might spend all day in the air-conditioned cafe. The Pocket Dictator is fan-phobic and won't sleep without her duvet so was, unsurprisingly, awake for ages in the heat last night. i ended up having her in my bed, where she starfished (your FB photo made me laugh IWCAS- it's a familiar sight) and I clung to the edge. But at least with our fan on she was cooler and is still asleep. DH, lucky git, slept in the spare room, so he didn't have to get up with babyV at 5.30. I need to apply to the management for a day off!!

Morning all xx

climber - mr climber is welcome as far as I'm concerned - might be fun to have a man's perspective sometimes! As long as he doesn't mind us asking borderline inappropriate questions... and if he can stick his fingers in his ears and hum when we discuss - ahem - womanly issues then that'll be grand!

evitas · 10/07/2010 11:07

Good morning everyone,

sorry but I have to moan! It's July and it's raining cats and dogs over here, therefore I'm stuck in the flat with a grumpy teething baby and in-laws...

Ok I feel better now.

Hope everyone is well.
I'll post more later once I'm a better mood.
x

FlipFantasia · 10/07/2010 13:39

Morning ladies

evitas sorry that the weather is rubbish! Tis blazing heat here in London - sorry! - and off this afternoon to a leaving do in a pub by the thames near Tate Modern.

Scooby glad that there were no more injuries but found the resolution so horrible. Watching the news last night I just knew it would end like this. Hope you and DS get lots of cuddles from your DH today.

Climber I'm also happy for MrClimber (or whatever he chooses to call himself ) to join us. A dad's perspective would be v interesting, and as you've been warned things can get "interesting" on here . Hope the move to California went well (where did you move to [nosey emoticon]).

Big waves to everyone else as don't have much time to post. The news chezFlip is that we went and bought a tripp trapp highchair today. I know DS is young but wanted to get it this month my next pay is going to be SMP so don't want any more "baby" outgoings for a while. And I love it!

Now off to make lunch

xx

Sariska · 10/07/2010 17:01

Blazing heat sounds nice. It's muggy and horrible here. Pub by the Thames also sounds nice, as does a beach cafe with air con.

MrClimber is also welcome as far as I'm concerned. I only wish I could get my DH to use MN a bit. He often suggests I look something up on it but won't do so himself - AFAIK anyway!

Bluey, I think not being made redundant is a good thing, although I didn't know I'd feel that way until it happened. It means I can decide on a change of direction at my own pace. I actually think I kno what I hope to do but it won't be for a year so going back to work in the interim seems like a good plan. Plus I'll get 2 hours' sleeptime per day on the train and, if I make enough fuss, a key to one of the bedrooms (who would want to work in offices where they have bedrooms, hey?) so I can have a rest express milk if I need to.

Positive thoughts for your cousins' LOs, rebeccacad and bluey from me, too.

Hi everyone

I am ClimberChick's husband. Thank's for letting me join your thread.

I've just become a SAHD, having moved to Santa Barbara, Calfornia where DW has got a job at the University for 2 years.

I'm doing ok, and very much enjoying spending so much time with DD (18 weeks), but don't have much of a network here. When DW was on ML in the UK, there were loads of clubs and groups she could join (she did something nearly every day), but there doesn't seem to be quite as much here. Apart from "Wriggly Readers" at the local library, I've not found anything else to go to yet.

I seem to be spending much of my time, turning DD over at the moment. She's been rolling into her front for the last 7 weeks and still hasn't worked out that she doesn't like it

Anyway, thought I'd say hello and make myself known. Look forward to hanging out with you guys.

FlipFantasia · 10/07/2010 22:02

Welcome BookWormDad - great name . And Santa Barbara is lovely - i've not been but my DH is American and lived in LA for a long time before we married. He says Santa Barbar is just lovely. Sorry to hear of the dearth of parent & baby things though. Good thing you found us then! But seriously, perhaps someone at the library group will know of another parent & baby group? Do any of the cinemas do parent & baby screenings? One other thought would be church parent & child groups, I'm not religious myself but I've heard good things about church groups here so perhaps the States would be the same?

Interesting to hear what other husbands think of MN. My DH appreciates the support and info I get from MN, but he really only uses it to check out the archive for reviews (eg for things like the tripp trapp).

pixie Wow, I didn't realise your DD2 was so premature. Sorry for missing that . I had though Pacific's DS2 was the earliest baby born (double ). I'm so glad that her asthma is the only long-term effect. You must be extra proud of her now...Hope you enjoyed the fairy cakes and tea! Sounds lovely . No advice on the highchairs other than my brothers kept recommending tripp trapps as comfy, useful and, while expensive initially, good value overall. Considering it's the only thing they recommended we thought we'd go with it.

FlipFantasia · 10/07/2010 22:03

Santa Barbara even...Santa Barbar sounds like some sort of unholy marriage between Father Christmas and Barbar the elephant

scooby26 · 10/07/2010 22:08

Evening all

Welcome Bookwormdad It'll be fun to have you here if you can put up with us!!! Very jealous of your move abroad. Much better than up the wet north of england.

On this thread we have a mix of prolific posters aka IWCAS/PIXIE/ARCADIE etc etc and those of us that are less frequent vistors cos we simply haven't worked out how to juggle like the others!!

My DS is 19 weeks old tomorrow. I have just been asking the thread about rolling as he seems uninterested in that - (hasn't tried let alone mastered it!)preferring to stand up.He must be nosy like his parents - comes with our jobs I suppose. He is very very strong both in grip and his legs and he can now stand for ages whilst griping onto either my fingers or a sofa.

We have started weaning - he has enjoyed sweet potato, potato, courgette, swede, pear and banana so far. Not keen on carrot but I think it is the consistancy.

Hope you are all having a chilled weekend. I need sleep after DS woke screaming in pain at 5.45 with his teething - he was inconsolable unti he wore himself out and back to sleep about 30m later.

sunshinesarahandco · 10/07/2010 22:37

welcome bookwormdad lovely to have you here! look forward to getting to know more about santa barbara etc!

had a lovley day here, weather been lovely we attended a birthday party then went to a locaL town and had fish and chips by the river, and enjyed some live music at their festival x

DS2is teething really bad, have been giving him ashton and parsons teething powders and i must say iam very impressed!

right gotta go be back soon x

MandaHugNKiss · 10/07/2010 22:53

Ewww, no! Let's not have any DH's/DP posting regularly!!

Just kiddin'

Welcom BWD (we always shorten usernames - the only one which is slightly confusing is busymissizzy whom is shortened to BMI. For quite some time I thought we'd become obsessed by our body mass index...)

James has been rolling for just over a week (properly laughing/giggling too) and found his feet today (as in grabs them to play with them rather than standing - which he also enjoys). He's 17 weeks. Oh, and today he was tryin to maipulate his dummy using a pincher grip which was cute (and new).

Also his teeth seem to be driving his craaaazy, poor love, and have been for weeks. Tried teething powders which Do Not Work, teething gels which Do Not Work and so have been resorting to calpol or baby nurofen as a last and limited resort. Can't see any pegs poking through so hope they hurry.

This heat is ridiculous. The flat was still 29 degrees at 9pm last night. Feels cooler/breezier this eve though so hopefully we'll sleep a little easier.

hecklephone · 10/07/2010 23:43

Here's what my DH thinks of MN:

DF (observing me fiddling on my phone): what are you up to?

DH: she's on mumsnet

DF: what's mumsnet?

DH: it's where a load of mums go online and chat to each other "oh I've got a baby" "yes I've got a baby too and it's got feet and hands and everything" "ooh yes isn't it brilliant"

DF: (looks bemused)

hello ladies and BWD!
BWD - are there any other mumsnetters in/ near or have friends in Santa Barbara? They might be able to help you? I have 2 SAHD friends. They always seem to have more time than me and one runs a news website and blogs all the time. Whats that about? I just have time to MN wash my hair once a week..

rebecca and bluey prayers for your cousins.

Scooby DD rolled front to back at 13 wks and back to front at 16 wks. Doesnt do it very much at all but like Annamama said, neither do I! DD has also found her feet this week manda and i think its soooo cute She also finds silly things funny; the letter 'zed', me choking, comedy sneezes, peepo and the cat's miaow. I would have a thousand sleep distrubed nights for a day full of baby giggles! (and its getting that way..)

I have a 4 month old today Yey! (nostalgic face) She Still isnt feeding properly but is fine in herself. Will get some teething powers to see if they work. There is no chance of early weaning happening here - she cant swallow calpol and gags on bongela.

ICWAS put those boobs away you harlot!
DS 'left' to entertain himself? I certainly dont leave DD in her door bouncer alone - its as much as of a development tool as a playgym - different perspective, and skills etc.. get what you want and tell P - well thats up to you!

heckle your DH's comment made me laugh . My DH knows the power of MN and has recently sat patiently while I explained what AIBU was..

How much do I want a lie-in? I dont want to be up at 7am!!

Oh my gosh IWCAS I'm extra tired this morning and only intended to lurk as I tried to not fall back to sleep sipped my coffee...

I actually 'lol'd and your boob mishap has really made my morning! THank you!

Thank you all of you. At one point or another, you've all been my saviours in some little, or not so little, way.

I dreamed about pixie again last night. More specifically, again not actually her but I was moving into a huge five bedroom flat (in which I found this massive walk-in wardrobe that connected two of the bedrooms. Was a great flat!) and I knew I'd bought it from pixie. Why do I keep dreaming about you?!

evitas · 11/07/2010 11:37

good morning ladies and gentleman,

IWCAS lol at your "incident".

Pixie Thanks for letting me moan

Scooby I'm very impressed with your DS standing up My DS has only now starting to roll, from tummy to back and he's 17weeks corrected age (22w real).

BWD welcome. Hope you are enjoying St. Barbara

Yesterday we went out for dinner with some friends and the in-laws stayed at home looking after DS. If you want some entertainment, check DS's first proper laugh here
I was starting to think that I wasn't funny enough
Ds got his second tooth. He looks so funny with the two front little teeth! Nevertheless I think more teeth are on the way because he stills equally grumpy and putting everything into his mouth.

Hope everyone is well
x

sunshinesarahandco · 11/07/2010 11:42

morning all, i got a lie in~!!!!! all kids were still in bed at 8-30am, i feel totally honoured!!!!1 got up and cookd bacon butties for everyone and had a lovely morning so far!

hope everyone else is ok, xxx feel like having a day of decluttering so might send Dh to his mothers with the DC's so i can get stuck in! i think i might have a sort out and sell all the crap stuff we no longer need at a car boot sale next weekend!

my sister crashed her car on friday- thankfully she is ok, and the lady she hit is ok too- she had a small child in her car but all is ok, my poos sis is 22 and totally devestated, her car is a write off, not much damage to the other vehicle, she said the lady in front stopped suddenly for no reason other than she may have missed the road she wanted and my sister failed to stop in time!
he brusing is bad, but it could have been so much worse,

not really got much to tell you all but wanted to post! sorry to be a bore!

sunshinesarahandco · 11/07/2010 11:44

aawwwwww evitas he is just so cute!!! i love it when they first start giggling!

scooby26 · 11/07/2010 11:45

Morning

pixie I just get very impressed at those of you who have managed frequent posting over the last year - jealous actually! ~I seem to go through phases of having time.

I'm also very jealous of those with good weather. It is blowing a gale here. I have asked my very kind neighbour to wedge his gate shut as it is slamming continously in the wind right under DS bedroom - not cvonducive to daytime naps.

iwcas hilarious! Bet it's a while before you order from there again!! hee hee

I'm loving hearing how your LO's are all getting on.

Thanks also to those suggesting teething powders. Tried yesterday and they do seem to help himj a little unlike dentinox gel. Might also try Calgel/Bongela - hadn't thought that one might be better than another. It was another screamfest at 5.45am with his poor teeth although thankfully for his sake he dropped back off til 7am - not that I did but at least I was comfy in bed rather than being entertained by a variety of plastic noisy toys!!

Is it wrong to go back to sleep at lunchtime?????!!!
