[waves to pixie as she flumps on sofa]

Arcadie- I'm no good at that bit. I sort of shut myself off from the world by that point in the induction. Text along the lines of 'thinking of you' is always nice though. And 'hope you get some rest'. I assume she's on labour/antenatal and hope she's in her own room!

Sounds like a nice meal Evitas- I found out I was pregnant this time last year. We'd been trying for three months and I'd had a recent miscarriage. I'd got my next lot of clomid ready to take and was getting ready to go to a friend's hen when I thought I'd do a test, which was positive. I carried on getting ready whilst DH put DD1 to bed, smiling to myself, then dug out the test I did with DD1 (first of 12). When I was ready to go out, I came downstairs, I showed DH the old test and said "Look what I've found" and we both smiled at the two lines. Then i put the new one next to it, said "And now we have a matching one", kissed him and went out to the hen. It wasn';t until i got home that i realised i'd been too cryptic and had to explain it to him!!!

BTW IWCAS- I meant to ask how your hips were post-baby. Have you had any issues or is everything back to normal?

I was going to wait until Father's Day but ended up telling him on the Saturday night before Father's Day as I just couldn't keep it a secret any longer!
Sorry I wasn't here for 'the date' I've been listing baby stuff on ebay as I am not having any more babies! It was very tedious and I've still got lots more to do.
arcadie hope DSIL and DB are parents soon
notes pixie won't be lured into bitchiness about other posters
also notes that mummyelk has not been back to explain herself about my thighs. . . .

Arcadie · 01/07/2010 23:04

OoOOOOOoooh I feel a thread topic emerging! If it's not a difficult subject to discuss - how did you break the news to your other half?

I took the test one Saturday morning having bought it from the shop across the road and left it on our bathroom shelf telling DH DON'T look until 5 mins is up. I made us BOTH leave the room. Then when 5 mins was up all 4 of us went into the bathroom and looked. BFP obviously. DCs didn't understnad and Dh's response was a 4 letter word. But from the surprise rather than unhappiness.

There have been some horrible things said about you Pixie and you've been very very gracious to rise above. I heart Pixie.

My bfp anniversary is on Saturday. I was a few days late but was on holiday so had sort of forgotten. When I realised I might be pg, I was desperate to get a test asap. So, while I was meant to be waiting for a ferry to take me to Skopolos, I was in fact running round trying to find a chemist. Found one staffed by a lovely elderly lady who explained that 2 lines meant a baby....

Didn't fancy the loo on the ferry but the one at the taverna we hightailed it to on arrival was just dandy. Came out and said in a low voice to dh, "I am". That was it; couldn't say more without arousing the suspicion of various relatives. As it was, I then had a week of pretending to drink with my usual gusto!

Btw, anyone who is partial to a bit of Boden: the summer sale started this evening.

Pingpong · 01/07/2010 23:32

thought sariska was on self imposed spending ban ?

Sariska · 01/07/2010 23:37

Busted. Smac, yes I was am (now).

ValiumtheConqueror · 02/07/2010 07:47

Arcadie [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/994734-Shock-and-Awe-how-did-you-break-the-news?rnd=127805301 3763 your wish is my command]]

Pixie- you big softie!

Smac- I'm rubbish at keeping secrets so admire any attempts to do the same, even if you crack before you planned!

Other stories....aren't they all great? I';m getting a warm fuzzy feeling. Don't confuse it for broodiness though. There will be NO MORE VALIUMS!

[rushes off to follow very impressive example set by Sariska and actually do something about the mountain of baby stuff waiting to be eBayed!]

Golly, turn your back for 2 minutes on this thread and it goes bananas!

Agree on judgey pants types, which is why I love this thread and stay clear of the others.

Pacific, big hugs. And to IWCAS. Hang on in there.

Can't remember when I got my BFP exactly but it must have been around now. I suspected, because I got the funny metallic taste in my mouth I'd had with DD but didn't want to test so early. DH made me give it a go. I think we both said a rude word (it was the first month of trying, we're lucky/fertile like that but hadn't expected to be quite so quick!). Telling my boss was more momentous than telling DH tbh!

Valium, loving Bella's sit ups, Alex does the same in his bath cradle but isn't moving anywhere. He does spin round in his cot though.

Sariska, I'm not allowed on the Boden site cos I get carried away especially with their kids clothes! I'll have to hang fire for later in the year.

Gotta go, am playing hooky from getting ready to go to Henley for the day. Forecast is rain so I predict car picnic!

BlueyDragon · 02/07/2010 09:12

And Arcadie, fingers crossed for your SIL

Arcadie · 02/07/2010 09:50

Ok People there's news!!!!!

My brother phoned at 9:30 this morning to say:

Wait for it...

You'll like it MummyElk!!!

THEA JENNIFER born 7am ish. 8lbs5 (despite scan on Friday that said at least 9lbs 7)
Waters went at 6:35, baby 25 mins later. My DB at this point was still struggling into his pants at home and made it to hosp 45 mins after his daughter. Feel so for him cos I know DH would have been SO GUTTED not to see our 3 arrive. But he's the strong silent type so it'll all be ok.
I WANT TO GO TO TOOTING RIGHT NOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

rebeccacad · 02/07/2010 10:23

Wooo Hooo - new baby! But very sad for your DB-god they are such gits in hospital aren't they not to let him stay. Hope your SIL is feeling ok.

Ah - just thinking of us all finding out this time last year. Our 'anniversary' of it was on Sat at my friend's wedding. Except I didn't tell DH for another 4 days (see other thread).

I spent most of last week thinking about just how different my life was a year ago - no plans to move house, just started a new job, DH's career very different. Now we have a totally unexpected baby and it has changed everything in our life - all for the better pretty much (except my flab - which has NOT changed for the better).

Valium - loving your vids at the mo, very, very, very cute.

IWCAS - time to beg a favour and get someone to come round and look after Ramsay while you sleep? They could just bring him in for feeds and you could stay in bed and doze all day?

Pixie am not sleuthy enough to find the offending thread but bugger them I say. We love you and they can SOD OFF (shouts loudly so whole of MN hears).

News here: Sofya has learned to suck her thumb and does it exactly how I used to with finger cradling nose. It's super cute. She also grabbed her feet for the first time yesterday. We are rewarding her for her developmental leaps with...jabs! Making DH take her in again as I'm too wimpy.

Enjoy this sunny (ish) Friday.

BusyMissIzzy · 02/07/2010 11:33

Bom dia, nao falo Portogues,fala^Ingles?

Congrats Auntie Arcadie! Lovely name, and a good weight too (and probably easier than 9lb7oz).

Valium that's such a lovely story of how you told your DD you were pregnant, and how funny that he didn't quite get the point! My BFP anniversary is this Wednesday. We'd been trying for about 8 months but my periods had taken 6 months to come back after stopping the pill, and still weren't regular. I assumed the sore boobs and achy tummy were my period, but after 2 weeks and no AF I took a pg test, not really expecting it to be positive. I did it in Brent Cross shopping centre toilets (classy), and then I couldn't phone DH at home because my mobile battery was dead. I had to buy dinner but my head was all over the place and coudln't decide what to get!

rebecca hope Sofya's jabs go OK. Thumb sucking sounds cute; Isobel just shoves a few fingers/whole hand into her mouth, occasionally making herself gag in the process .

I am very nosey and now want to now who the posters are that annoy you all...

BusyMissIzzy · 02/07/2010 11:33

Hmph, my italics didn't work.
