Hello new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gingeme · 14/10/2010 21:57

Hi I'm still here Smile
LaT tbh I don't remove nappies for nap or bed time till theyre dry, the nappies that is. Sometimes George wakes from his nap with a perfectly dry nappy and sometimes its realy full. I usualy wait till it seems dry atleast 3 nights in a row then take it off and see. Because nappies are so absorbant if your not sure if they are dry put a sheet of kitchen towel in the nappy and see if thats wet or dry in the morning or after nap time.
Good luck xx

simpson · 14/10/2010 21:57

LaT - tbh I would weigh up what would upset her more...having a nappy on for nap or weeing iyswim.

Think I am going to give M a go at half term.

She has been in pull ups for a couple of wks (was in nappies before) and can now pull them up/down etc to sit on potty.

latrucha · 14/10/2010 22:06

Thanks both of you. I'll see how she feels tomorrow. She's incredibly excited at the moment and really happy. She got two wees on the potty and two off (not counting naptime ones).

I have to go out for a course on Saturday morning and she'd have to come with me (DH working). Do you think it's nuts to take her out nappyless? Should we go out with nappy, without nappy or stay at home and carry on as we have been ?

simpson · 14/10/2010 22:31

does she tell you if she needs a wee??

Will you be able to take her to loo often or are you really busy??

TBH I would try without as I think it confuses them otherwise or you could try putting knickers on first then nappy so she still gets the feeling of being really wet but isn't iyswim.

angechica · 15/10/2010 10:44

hello to everyone.

good luck with your move gingeme!

DS is in pants all day but still in a nappy for bed - often dry in morning but just in case! When I was potty training him I tucked a towel over his sheet in the bed at nap time (although he keeps dropping his nap these days), and stationed the potty nearby. I did put him in a pull up occasionally, like on that long train journey, they seem such a rip-off but still feel wet but catch accidents if out and about.

DS has been growing again (sigh) and seems to be in an awkaward in between size. 2-3 are short but 3-4 a bit long. He is now in size 9 shoes.

latrucha · 15/10/2010 13:29

Simpson - She tells me she needs a wee lots of times and sometimes she does. One tiny accident today and three wees on the potty, so we're doing pretty well. She's still very happy about it and it hasn't (yet) tested my patience.

Ange - Kids clothes sizing is aminefield, especially if you've got a tall skinny minny like Sabela. All the trousers which are long enough need a big washable nappy under them to keep them up - which we're not going to have now!

SIL played a lot with Sabela this morning, so all is forgiven!

JustKeepSwimming · 15/10/2010 17:36

LaT - not sure if this will help or not! but when starting with T, DH took him out one saturday in that first week and put him in a pull-up as he was unsure - it really set T back and we nearly gave up. he was doing pretty well before that saturday.

Later on i took him to the theatre with the potette and made him sit on it (right by the seat, no dignity lol!) at the start, middle & end, no wees or accidents that day:)

SO i would say, if she is doing well, feeling proud of herself etc. then take a potty/potette and wing it!
(of course it depends what kind of course too i suppose)

Have PIL here just for 1 night, off out to a quiz tonight with fish & chips, yum.

Also got on top of loads of stuff for eBay so have lots listed/selling which is cheering me up - can do more Christmas shopping for boys once my Paypal account is healthy again Grin

latrucha · 15/10/2010 19:00

thankd jks. iy's my bf course. don't suppiose i'll take in much

JustKeepSwimming · 16/10/2010 06:22

LaT - you probably know it all anyway :)

H up at 5.30, i only got to bed at 11 - tired day ahead

Why, now he's in a bed. does he wake up earlier? I make sure he's covered with his duvet (same bedding as before).
At least he doesn't wake T, can't be dealing with both of them wide awake so early!

Oh and i know it's early days but i may discuss possible names on here (rather than the name board where it can all get a bit catty!) at the moment we are set on Mary or George. Kind of have been for ages, but i'm just not sure about using George, i love it but does it work with our surname? and are we mad going for another such well-used one when we have T already?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 16/10/2010 09:20

JKS - I think those names are lovely. I would love to see Mary used more often it is o timeless and beautiful. I think that George is also brlliant and definitely goes with your surname T, H and G sound perfect together in my opinion.

I may join you.... we are going for AYLA (pronounced like the English Isla) for girl which is what we would have called a girl if S or E had been a girl so although we are discussing others I am fairly certain we will stick with this.

Boys names are a minefield as we have always had massive trouble agreeing, S was a name we both thought was OK and couldnt agree with anything else and E i just pushed through because I wanted it and loved it. No idea really but Wednesday is going to be Scan day so assuming we are able to find out will think more about it then.

simpson · 16/10/2010 12:42

JKS - I think T, H & G go really well together. All classic names iyswim.

M lovely too, exactly what MM said.

Are you going to find out what you are having at 20wk scan??

MM - love your girls name too Smile I found it a lot harder to think for boys names when I was pg with M.

Hope you can find out what you are having!!

Dcs going to a birthday party at 3 and they have both been ready to go since 11 Hmm They are sooo excited

JustKeepSwimming · 16/10/2010 14:47

Thanks guys :) I think G goes with the other names just think it might be a mouthful with surname to say.

Love Ayla, in fact love the sound but really love that spelling instead of Isla :)
S & E i like as they work in English, IYKWIM? I always think kids with tricky names can have a harder time in school, etc.

Ghostfillybusters · 17/10/2010 20:45
latrucha · 20/10/2010 20:55

Hello all.

Well, it's a week tomorrow since we started withthe potty and we've had our first accident free day already! TBH, we've not had many accidents at all: maybe one or two a day.

I'm so proud of her. She's been ace. She's gone at groups, at swimming and at nursery. We even had an emergency on ein the travel potty on Aberystwyth prom!

She incredibly excited about it and hasn't yet worked out ways in which to wind mummy up with it - long may it last! I've even managed to be very nice and patient. Smile

Daniel's on a total suckathon this evening. Finally got him sleeping but his eyes were open in seconds and he's got his hands in his mouth again!

latrucha · 20/10/2010 20:56

Daniel is a total darling BTW and seems to find me hilarious, which DD never did. The first thing he does when he wakes up and sees me is smile!

simpson · 21/10/2010 14:01

Hi all

LaT - we are hoping to try M from Saturday with no pull ups (half term)

Am a bit about it as not looking forward to pooey pants etc

But I think I need to give it a go....

Nothing exciting to report here Hmm

I have finally got out M's buggy snuggle and the advantage of having a shortie is it still fits her Grin

I have just put it on buggy and M has asked to have a little sleep and is reclined in buggy with snuggle up to her neck Grin

Don't think she will stay there long though Hmm

latrucha · 21/10/2010 18:20

Sweet Simpson. I got out the 'big' pushchair seat for Daniel (it fully reclines) that Sabela used to go in and she was very excited and sat and watched a TV programme in it. Smile

We only had poo accidents on the first couple of days. I'm sure there'll be more but so far much better than I thought. No one could have been more reluctant than me and I must say I'm surprised. I guess if they get it they just get it. Sabela is on her second accident free day today (only an hour or so till betime)

simpson · 21/10/2010 22:51

LOL LaT thats what M ended up doing too, watching TV in it!! Grin

She even asked for a bottle (not a real one but hard spouted beaker with no handles but still has ozs down side as she is still ff) which is unheard of Shock She still has 3 a day but never actually asks for one iyswim Smile

Kids are very excited as they are going out "on the razzle" tomorrow (its what I tell them I do when I go out Grin)

A RL friend whose DD is the same age as J has got a school disco and we are taking our 3 DC together Smile

JustKeepSwimming · 22/10/2010 18:04

Good luck with all the potty training stuff - not something we need to worry about with H for a good while.

Have had a rubbish week with not enough sleep, H ill again, DH away a lot, etc.

and now:

Ooh I am RAGING at GOSH.
5.30 get phone call to go through checklist for DS2's MRI on Monday....
What MRI?
Do you mean this Monday?
As in 4 days time?

ARGH!!!!

No notice, have no idea about DH's diary on that day, not answering mobile, changed his pc password so can't try and check diary on there, etc.

DS1 has a hosp appt at 9am Mon at local hosp (to check undescended testicles), could rearrange except...they will be shut until ...9am Monday.

Think we will have to all go to DS1's appt, drive from there to GOSH (for 11.30 - is doable just) and hope DS1 is ok with a 'fun' day out
At least we can go to Corams Fields with him while DS2 is under (or 1 of us can for a bit).

I cannot believe the shocking admin at that place, i know we are meant to think it's God's Gift to kids medicine and the surgeons/consultants are fab but the admin, i have yet to have a successful encounter with that side.

This is the same place that has not rung me back about the word 'tumour' appearing in a letter with no explanation.

grrrrrrrr...ad infinitum...

Ghostfillybusters · 22/10/2010 20:11

OK, so ridiculously far behind that this is a pathetic attempt at a catchup (and sorry if I repeat anything or miss anyone out!)

JKS - love the names and both work really well with T & H and with your surname. Am very amused at your 'nesting' list! Am equally grrrr for you about Monday - can you at least take the opportunity of being in GOSH to query the 't' word?

LaT - well done on S' toilet training, you were so right to wait until you were ready as well as her :) FWIW, altho this response is prob too late to be of any use, we kept T in pullups for naps and night time for absolutely ages, even though she was almost always dry. It just seemed less stressful for her than risking her being upset about wetting herself and she accepted that pullups were different to nappies (and I think was quite happy not to have to worry about accidents in bed). Only moved to knickers at night quite recently, even tho the PUs were dry every morning, now that she can finally get onto the loo by herself. Loving how much you are enjoying your time with D :) :) :)

MM - am very Blush...kept meaning to ask you about the scan results on Thurs and kept getting distracted....sorry!! E is totally edible and sooo well behaved :) :)

Simpson - fingers crossed for the continued toilet training with M! Well done on J's medal :)

Waves to Ange, Lily, Lucky, MadMouse & Gingeme - how's the garden?!

we're off to Spain on Tuesday for a last minute half-term break....am soooooo excited! Its a random self-catering unit on a farm somewhere near Malaga, and is hopefully vaguely decent...eveb though I'll still be doing all the cooking and stuff, I'm really looking forward to doing it somewhere different - keep your fingers crossed for me that the weather stays decent - it was 23 degress today.... Of course it could turn cold and wet any moment now.... Our last break was last March, pre-baby, so I'm very ready for this :)

latrucha · 22/10/2010 20:43

Just popping in to boast shamelessly: Sabela dry with no accidents for three days. We're actually both really enjoying it. I've haven't giggled so much about wee anf poo since I was a toddler (at least I presume I did).

DD is being totally lovely ATM. I'm a lucky mummy.

As soon as this boy is off hthe boob, I'll try and catch up.

latrucha · 22/10/2010 20:53

Oh. That didn't take long.

Filly - I'm very envious. Have a lovely time.

Simpson - any more potty news? Smile

MM - yes, any news?

JKS - how frustrating! I hope you manage to wangle it somehow. Lovely names. How do you feel about the gender? ARe you going to find out?

Gingeme - I am imagining you scouring the aisles of B&Q for the perfect paint! I hope you're enjoying the new house ALOT.

Madmouse - so, how did it go the ohter morning?

If any of you have DC's yet to train, I can thoroughly recommend the potette travel potty. We've used it loads and it means LO doesn't have to constantly sit on unfamiliar loos. And it has very nice froggies at the bottom of the liners which like to go swimming Grin.

Life is pretty rosy just now. DCs are lovely and DH is having a free weekend so we plan to make the most of it.

If only the cuts in university funding didn't loom (and other more personal stuff that you all know about I guess), we'd be happy as Larry

simpson · 23/10/2010 10:33

JKS - Angry for you. From what you have told me before the admin there seems Shock

Well, its day 1 of potty training today. She is very happy to be in big girl pants.

Not sure its a good idea to do today though as M ate milk powder (by accident) in some mayo a few days ago and was sick and had diarrea (sp) yesterday. But because I know its food related iyswim I thought I should just carry on.

I have got big shower curtain on sofa (which kitties seem to love Hmm) to protect it.

She has sat on potty twice today but nothing, but no accidents either....
