Hi all,

I hope I'm allowed back on the thread after going AWOL for months, I've just been useless at keeping up to date with everything and I never seem to find time to post. DDs obsession with banging away on my laptop every time she sees it hasn't helped either. However I'm now back at work and I have slipped straight back into my lazy ways, checking out mumsnet with a cuppa between meetings . Hopefully I'll be able to keep up a bit better now. I'm off now to have a quick read through the last few posts to try to find out what everyone has been up to.

Quick update from here is that DD is 8 months now and settling in well at nursery (barely notices I'm going but glad to see me at the end of the day ). She is sitting well now and rolls all over the place but hasn't mastered crawling yet thank goodness as we have no space until we move to our new house in 3 weeks -hurray! She took to blw like a pro and now polishes off 3 huge meals a day with snacks in between - I don't know where she puts it all . However she refuses to take milk from a bottle or cup (although she drinks loads of water from her sippy cup) so I am still feeding her morning and night and will probably finish up carrying on until she is ready to stop feeding. Luckily she will take a small amount of milk from my mum at night if I leave her with my parents (enough to get her through the night) so we are able to have to have the odd night away. I'm back at work as I said and have suddenly realised how much extra weight I am still carrying (to be fair most of it is 'study' weight from writing my thesis rather than 'baby' weight so can't blame DD but it needs to come off anyway) so I'm going to try to improve my diet and start running again. I'm just struggling to find the time/energy/motivation........

HappyTangerine · 29/06/2010 22:23

Would it be evil of me to book a viewing tomorrow for a house I have no intention of buying? They are doing viewings tomorrow on what is predicted to be a v v hot day for us...and this place has full working air con in every room. Joe and I could spend half hour in a blissfully cool stupor.[grin}

HC Glad you got the ADs sorted out. Its been 6 years since I was on them and I remember being totally wiped out initially-is there anyone around who can help with the dc's for the next few weeks?

PrincessProudMel-my little bigfoot was shoe size 2.5 until 5 weeks ago, thats about average for this age as far as I know. Joe is going to have big feet like his size 13 daddy I think.

Scout at Seb and the kitten. Joe is a bit wary of cats but totally loves dogs, gets all bouncy and excited when he sees one.

rugbylovingmum Welcome back. DD sounds like she is coming on in leaps and bounds! Great to hear that the blw is going so well.

Scout19075 · 30/06/2010 08:33

Ooooh, DH and I used to go "house shopping" before DS was born. Grant it, it was mostly new show homes, but it was good fun!

fidelma · 30/06/2010 20:59

Summer Holidays !!!!!!

BellaCullen · 30/06/2010 22:11

It`s been a while since I managed to come on.

fidelma we still have school till 23rd july, enjoy your holidays and the lovely weather.

HT did you view the house I would have done it ,house with air condition sounds great.Nathaniel isn`t coping very well with the heat and constantly wakes up at night moaning.

Had my wisdom tooth out and its hurting like hell taking some ibuprofen for it which helped.Off to bed now sorry didnt write much.
xx

HumphreysCorner · 30/06/2010 22:19

Oh Bella-I had 3 wisdom teeth out in hospital and it was most painful. Keep taking the painkillers.

fidelma-we don't break up until 22nd or 23rd either. Don't want them to break up as it means that DD2 is closer to starting school in September.

HT-I am hoping to manage to look after the children through the haze.

Night all.

I did indeed pop into house and it was lovely and cool. Gorgeous kitchen. If the whole street could be picked up and dropped a good few miles away from my SIL I'd consider it.

HC Good news about the AD, hope you didn't mind me asking, I just remembered how hard it was for me at the beginning. You'll feel great soon.

Bella Oww for the wisdom tooth. I need 3 of mine taking out, they are all impacted but I have an irrational fear of general anisthetic. I forget where you are but it is cooler up North today and has been raining since early morning. Blessed, glorious rain-I'd forgotten what it sounded like!

Can I ask everyone a couple of questions?

  1. How are you getting on with cleaning baby teeth? Joe plays hell with me when I try.
  1. How many baby groups do you take your dc to? It is being suggested that I am not socialising Joseph enough because I'm not a a baby group each day. He finds them a bit intense so we only do 2-3 a week but we're out and about lots so I don't see the problem. Ever get the feeling like everything you do is wrong? Sorry-feeling a bit down and suffocated at the moment.
Rugbylovingmum · 01/07/2010 11:18

Morning HT - I am back at work now so I only take DD to sing and sign but even before then I definitely didn't do groups every day. We had a baby group on a Monday, swimming on a Wednesday and a singing group on a Friday. I felt that was enough and in between we met friends, visited the park/library/cafe or went for walks so she was hardly housebound. It's nice to alternate 'doing something' days with quieter days I think. Luckily DD quite likes her toothbrush. We give it to her when she is in the bath so she can have a chew/play then I quickly brush her teeth, rinse the brush and give it back to her for another chew. I think she thinks its a toy so she doesn't object.

Bella - hope N had a better night last night. DD is struggling too, not helped by the fact she won't sleep unless she is in her cosy sleeping bag . We are putting her in just a nappy then the lightest tog bag and have a fan on all night but even so her room gets very stuffy.

Morning HC, Fidelma and Scout.

CalypsoFramboise · 01/07/2010 13:04

Hello all, doing a naughty post from work

HT Annalise doesn't have a single tooth but LOVES having the electric toothbrush in her mouth, heh. Probably wrong in a million different ways, but she grabs it when I'm holding her and doing mine. Do they even do little children electric brushes?!

  • Socialising: take Annalise to 2 a week now I'm working, I'm sure you don't need to go to one every day, sounds knackering for you let alone a baby
  • Shoe size: Annalise still in size 0, she has the cutest sandals, but when (if?!) she ever starts to crawl, do they even make crawling shoes that small??

HC hope the AD are starting to help x

RLM hello again!

Bella further empathy with the wisdom tooth extraction, had 2 that were over erupted taken out and yes ouch. The one that's still impacted had to stay, so I think better out than in in the long run. x

Finally took the nursery place in Sept for Annalise as I really am all confused regarding the childminder. Am steeling self to give her notice in a few weeks. Annalise definitely likes her, but I think at 11 months won't be distraught for me to stop taking her there, better than when she's 2. Right...???

oh and YAY annalise doubled her birthweight, huzzah Actually she gained 1lb in under 4 weeks which is nothing short of stupendous for her. Trying not to think about how that coincides with me supplementing some of the bf with ff

HumphreysCorner · 01/07/2010 13:38

When DD1 was born my HV nagged me to take her to groups but I didn't as I met my friends with their babies. When DD2 was born my friends had their 2nd babies at the same time so didn't join any groups. I don't take Matthew to any either and rely on seeing my friend occasionally with her 1.5 year old but my school mum friend also has a 1.5 year old boy and I chat to her most days, sometimes have a coffee morning. My 2 girls went to nursery at 2.5 and are fine. TBH my HV's nagging really got me down.

Have taken DD2 for her school induction this afternoon She is so tiny and still wears some 18-24 months clothes.

Calypso-that is good that Annalise has doubled her birth weight.

M doesn't have any teeth so no cleaning here yet. Don't know what shoe size he is as his little sandals and trainere are 3-6 months. DD2 was less than a size 2 when she walked at 18 months and the proper shoes started at a 2 so her first shoes were a little big.

Waves to everyone else!

HC

HappyTangerine · 01/07/2010 15:35

Thanks, relief to hear I'm normal for not wanting to spend each day at a baby group. I think if the hv had suggested it, I'd have given her a piece of my mind-as it is, I'm having to be a bit more diplomatic and bite my tongue...

twinklegreen · 01/07/2010 19:51

Hi everyone

Sorry it's been so long, although still keeping in touch with some of you via FB!

Hope everyone is ok. Things pretty hectic with building the house and all

Amelie is doing well, she's a little poppet, v.v nearly crawling but no teeth yet

just thought I'd pop in to say I've missed you all ....

twinklegreen · 01/07/2010 19:53

HT I have found the best thing to do with HV's is to smile... nod.... and then completely ignore everything they say

Scout19075 · 01/07/2010 20:30

I go to breastfeeding group most Mondays, but that's more for me than for DS. Tuesdays is AquaBabies which is a class, not really a toddler group. I go to that for both of us. Wednesdays we do baby groups one in the morning, at a village hall (don't go every week, though) and one in the afternoon through our SureStart Center (Messy Play for 0-18 month olds). I go to messy play for both of us Seb so he can do messy things and someone else cleans it up (but I have to clean the messy baby) and me because I like the people that go most weeks (there seems to be a core group of us that go every week).

I don't know what Seb's shoe size is. He doesn't wear shoes. I got a pair of baby (immitation) crocs and a pair of baby sneakers for camp, and think I got 9-12 month figuring socks.

When I was 15 I had 7 baby teeth and 4 impacted 12-year molars removed. OUCH! I looked like a jack-o-lantern for Easter that year.

Yay baby weight gain! Seb's up to 22.1 now. But he's gaining centimeters as well and is well proportioned. He looks vaguely budda-like sitting playing, but when he lays down/rolls/stands up he's as thin as when he was born. It's amazing how quickly he's out-growing his clothes! I asked him today who told him he could keep growing so quickly and didn't he know he was my baby and was meant to stay a baby? Anyone within ear-shot probably thought I was nuts!

Hello to everyone!!

HappyTangerine · 01/07/2010 20:57

Joseph has decided he doesn't like crawling anymore and wants to stand all the time . He had a right tantrum this afternoon beacause I thought his little legs had had enough and sat him back down, then he didn't want me to support him standing and jabbered angrily at me until I took my hand away. On the floor now, he commando crawls for a bit then just stops and rolls onto his side before grabbing anything to stand. So many changes,so quickly.

Welcome back twinkle! No it wasn't the hv, they are really happy with him and were v reassuring when I asked about my in laws concerns that Joseph only wants to be on me (and cries/screams when not) when we're round there. Hv quite indignant "thats how it should be." However, SILs 2 didn't do it so there have been hints that its my parenting/lack of socialising.

HC How did dd get on at the school induction, did she like it?

Calypso Well done on making such a tough decision and a HUGE well done on Annlise's weight gain. Don't beat youself up about the ff.

Scout at your chat with Seb. I would love messy play, there isn't one around here. Would love baby signing even more as I really believe in it, but also no classes. I can't stop thinking about applying for a franchise for one of the baby sign classes, am I insane?

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 01/07/2010 22:30

HT - apparently they are going through a phase at present where they are more clingy with mummy so I wouldn't worry about your DS. DD prefers me to everyone else which is soooo lovely. DS (who is nearly 4) likes DH best so I am enjoying it while it lasts.

Scout - DD doesn't really wear shoes either.

Calypso - Hia. Same here re formula and weight gain. See below. Never mind eh.

I know exactly what you mean about HV nagging. So irritating. Thankfully I have a nice one this time around.

Well I don't go to ANY baby groups. I walk DS to school and back everyday and we see mums and kids/babies in the park on most days. We all go to playgroup on a Friday but DS likes that most. When I go back to work in Sept we won't be able to go anymore and DS will be at school full time so I might look for another one but DD will be at nursery and be able to socialise there so I won't mind too much if we don't go to anything.

We went to the HV this week and DD is 15lbs now so still quite small. Teeth only just through so not much to brush yet. Mine is a lovely HV and we spent a while discussing DD's progress with eating (trying to do BLW), bfeeds and bottles etc.

I'm feeling a bit sad cos I will be going back to work soon and will really miss DD. Also will be having an operation in 10 weeks and will probably stop breast feeding by then. I have dropped 1 feed already and will do another soon. Ah the end of an era but it will be great to have my boobs back.

Night all.

rubyslippers · 02/07/2010 06:50

marking my place and will be back later

hope everyone is ok - been back at work a month

Scout19075 · 02/07/2010 07:27

Happy 4th of July weekend, ladies! Get out your BBQs and sparklers and fireworks and prepare to party like it's 1776!

Igglybuff · 02/07/2010 07:34

hi everyone

ruby hope work is going ok. A month already!!

HMHB what's the op for?

HT maybe Joe is going to be walking soon ? W is now very quick at crawling and loves pulling up and climbing stairs but no sign of walking yet. Thank goodness. Also go for it wrt baby signing! I love the classes and they're always fully booked.

Hi twinkle! Hope life is treating you well.

babygroups etc. Well W and I go to sing and sing once a week. I've also started doing a playgroup every weds and am thinking of going to a free one at the local childrens centre. But it's for purely selfish reasons - as W gets bigger and more mobile it's quite hard to entertain him so getting out keeps me sane I've not seen a HV in a while so who knows what they'd tell me to do.

teeth well we give William's a brush in the bath and in the mornings when we're going ours. I asked the dentist and he said that was fine - just try and get W used to the feel of the brush.

calypso excellent news on the weight and good that you've made a choice re childcare.

DH is at home today and I have a trip to the dentist again for a clean. Lovely

Morning all, thank goodness it's Friday and the weekend is nearly here! This is my second week back at work and I still haven't really got my head around putting DD into nursery, I spend most of the day counting down the hours until I can go and collect her . Everyone tells me it will get easier as time goes on - I just hope it happens soon. Luckily she really enjoys it and is happy to be handed over in the morning.

HMHB - how is DD doing with the BLW, it has/is working really well for DD. I'm glad you have a lovely HV, mine is rubbish. She is nice but no help at all. I was telling her that DD won't drink milk from a bottle or cup although she'll take plenty water and asking for some advice as to how I'll stop bf'ing over the next few months and she really had nothing to say.

HT - wow, sounds as though J is really keen to get walking. DD isn't even crawling yet and can't pull herself up. It's only in the last couple of weeks she has managed to sit really steadily and not fall over every time she reaches for a toy.

Scout - have a fab 4th July weekend! What do you have planned?

Calypso - I'm glad you've made a decision about childcare, it's tough isn't it. Well done on Annlise's weight gain but weight isn't the most important thing is it. She sounds like a happy, healthy, thriving little girl who has done really well on bf and it seems will do really well on mixed feeding too .

Hi Igglybuff, Ruby, HC and anyone I've missed.

princessProudmel · 02/07/2010 18:42

Hi everyone!

Hello RLM F bangs on the keyboard too! I have to type when he's on the floor, playing, or asleep.

HT I got F's feet measured and they were around a 2 1/2 ...then found out that we don't actually need to know! I don't dress him in shoes, I just thought the agency needed to know (but it was only for the bigger kids)

teeth F only has a line!! Not a real tooth yet. No brushing here. When ds1 and dd were small I just poked the brush in gave it a wiggle and let them chew it to get used to the idea! They were more resistant at 18m ish.

Baby groups Sometimes none. Usually none! Apart from massage but it 's the last one next week. Lots of my friends go to messy play, music, toddlers (all free/sure start) But I can't be bothered with the small talk. Plus F is usually due a sleep and I prefer him to have good naps.
I see mums on the school run morning and afternoon, and meet friends in diff houses or here for coffee at least once a week. One friend has a similar age baby so F see's him.
Tbh I'm so busy with ds1 and dd after school that I like to be calm in the day with F.

Fidelma ours don't finish till the 23rd, then are back on sept 6th.

Bella Ouch!! Keep taking the painkillers.

CF Glad you made your desicion about the CM/nursery. I'm sure you will feel much better when she's there.

Re the weight Maybe she's just drinking more formula than bm cos it comes out quicker/easier which is why she's put on weight. I really don't think ff has more calories in it than bm.

Twinkle F is nearly crawling too. Sooo almost there. He's made a few knee movements whilst on all 4's and has def moved to reach things.

F has a casting on monday!!! For John Lewis!!! No guarentees he'll get it though.

need to sort out the journey now....minimal escalators/ tubes as possible.

princessProudmel · 02/07/2010 18:43

HBHM F going great guns with BLW here too....

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 02/07/2010 18:54

Iggly - The op is for removal of scar tissue from ventouse delivery.

Rugby - DD is not a massive eater yet. She likes to put things in her mouth and spits a lot out. Some must go in though as it turns up in her poo. I tried and tried to get DD on a bottle. Don't give up if you want her to take one and gradually cut down breast feeds. The HV said DD definitely still needs milk feeds so breast feeds should be replaced by milk in a bottle or cup. I basically tried every day until she did it. Let me know if you need more info.

Scout19075 · 02/07/2010 19:07

Just a quick one before I get the young one up for bed. I just found out I got the funding for respite nursery! It's such a relief to know that care for S is all sorted between family, friends and nursery. I start treatment in four weeks and am getting nervous, but this has taken a whole load off my shoulders. I feel a little guilty for putting him in nursery so young but know it's better for him to be looked after by happy healthy people while I'm poorly. It also means I can divide up his care and not feel guilty about stressing out people (my PiL are not young and I think full days for several weeks would be more than they can handle, no matter what they say).

WHEW!

fidelma · 02/07/2010 20:55

scout great that you have the funding sorted.Enjoy 4th of fJuly.

HT we do NO baby groups AT ALL !!!!!!
I think Connor gets over stimulated as it is do what is right for you.

Connor on the go alot but he is not moving around at any speed yet.He is trying bum shuffling, crawling and walking lol

Off for a wee holiday tomorrow IN A CARAVAN WHAT WAS I THINKINg it is smaller than my bathroom [gasp]
not sure whether it will be a long weekend or a week.
