Glad you're better HT. I really hate teeth problems - avoid the dentist like the plague. Nope not sinking in at all. Lack of major symptoms except being tired and thirsty means it's not real yet!
I've also got a dilemma - I go back to work with the plan that I take over from someone who is moving on. However as I'm going to be off again next year, it doesn't make sense for me to do it. But I don't fancy telling work so early but will feel guilty if I don't. What do I do? Confused

scout I know what you mean about getting out in the cold. We bought William a puddle suit so he can keep warm and run about in the cold but it's too tight now! Have to get a new one!

I am a horrible Mommy. Not really, but I'm not sure the young one sees it that way. LOL

I am trying to get him interested in feeding himself with a spoon. He's happy to finger food what is meant to be picked up with fingers (sandwich, fruit, rice cakes, etc) but won't pick up other food and really doesn't seem interested in trying to spoon on his own. He wants me to do it (fair enough, I guess, cuz he knows he gets food that way). So today I gave him some breakfast, then gave him the bowl and his spoon and just let him play in it. I think a little actually went in (YAY!). Left him for a long time -- I find hovering makes him dig his heels in a bit, so I continued clearing up the kitchen, making playdough, etc., all the while chatting with him and singing along with the radio (which he thinks is funny). Finally he had had enough and wanted out, so did the usual "Let's wash your foodie-face" and made it a game (usually prevents the screaming). Took off his tray and unclicked one side of the straps which immediately caught his attention (as it did last night) and he spent the next 30 minutes trying to get the strap back in/together. Honestly, I kid you not. I could barely distract he was so fascinated by trying to re-buckle himself. Cue wailing after 30 minutes I was tired of standing around in the kitchen so scooped him up to go change him.

Cue more wailing when he realized he was having a bottom change. LOL

WAVES to everyone. Good morning!

Igglybuff · 26/09/2010 09:45

Lol scout not just me then! I'm trying to encourage William to self settle for naps. He does it sporadically but not every time. Cue cries! Then I give up after half an hour and cuddle him to sleep anyway. I'm worried his nanny won't be able to do it at first as he'll wonder what the hell is going on. As for spoon feeding, William has shown an interest recently. I also got him a fork which he tries to use. I still spoon feed him and he does some too!

I think in that way S's like his Dad -- he doesn't like to get messy with food, etc. And I do think he's realized that he gets a lot more to eat if I do it so he sits with his mouth open, reaching for it. Yesterday we had progress in that he was holding a spoon (nothing on it) and kept offering it to me to eat. So, in the middle of the cafe, I sat making a big deal of "how nicely Sebby's feeding Mommy. Can Sebby put the spoon in his mouth?" He's also now working out the correct end of spoons and forks and will lick things off of them, but that's about it. It's nice to know we're not the only ones! I think I just need to start dinner earlier and let him play and keep trying. (So far have been doing it for breakfast and sometimes lunch.)

Very random question -- do any of the other babies still only have milk and water for drinks? I'm thinking it's about time to introduce some juice now that he's very established on water (didn't want him to not like water, if you know what I mean) but am wondering if it's too early? I know mix a bit of juice with water to dilute it....

Iggly I found self-settling took a bit of time. He still struggles sometimes and needs a bit of help (extra cuddles, a bit of swaying looking out the window, counting, eyebrow rubbing), but it's not nearly as often as it used to be and I find it's when we're somewhere new for the first night or two. I think sometimes he wakes up in the night and can go back to sleep, but when he wails it's "hungry NOW Mommy" and after I give him milk he's back out in a few minutes. Once I got his reflux sorted I made a point of making sure he wasn't completely asleep when I fed him before bed/naps so that helped a bit when I put him his basket/cot.

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to wean from FF to cows milk? I'm not yet (Sebby's only 11 months on Tuesday) but am thinking ahead. I'm getting fed up with formula (and it doesn't help my "I miss BF" moods) so am, probably a bit selfishly, looking forward to cows milk.

OH! And a proud Scout moment. About a week or two I realized Sebby hasn't had a bottle in weeks. ALL of is his milk, even the overnight one (and overnight is usually around 5 a.m. so not really night any more) is in cups. WAHOO! You may remember I had really hoped he could go straight to spouty-cup when I weaned him, but he wasn't that confident with the cup when I started so got very frustrated and I went to bottles because he was used to them from his medicine. So I am very excited that he's off them.

princessProudmel · 26/09/2010 11:32

iggly HUGE Congrats!!!! :) :)

I keep thinking I want a baby!!!! Oh dear! Dh doen't ..and I don't think we will. But......

Goodness no bottles and spoon feeding at this age is mega early. I wouldn't worry if they don't feed themselves for at least another year yet....
F gets some in with a fork but I usually just let him use his hands. Thb I'd rather he's thinking about/concentrating on the food and not faffing about with forks. Grin

We go to soft play a lot as there's a huge one at the farm we're members of. All the dc's love it. It's better when it's not busy. Avoid after school times..

F has a puddle suit too :)

We went out last night for afriends birthday and I was a bit tipsy!! :) F didn't wake till 4!!! Best for agggessss!

Waves to everyone.

CalypsoFramboise · 26/09/2010 21:14

Evening all

Congratulations Iggly!! How exciting, very happy for you, fingers crossed you have a fabulous pg! :)

Scout A feeds herself ok with the spoon, but I often have to stand behind her to help her get the angle of her wrist/elbow right as she has the flick that means all the food falls off before it reaches her mouth! After a few mins, she gets the action and is ok until she stops concentrating. She's getting quite fast though, I think a spurt may be happening?! About time - she's still mostly in 3-6month clothing!

PPM yay, F sleeping until 4am! A still waking around midnight for an hour and again around 4am, then up for the day at 5:45 yawn Feeling super tired after a run and at my desk!

This time last year I was 18hrs into my labour, trying to watch telly and getting in and out of the birth pool! (A was born at 1:33am on a Monday morning last year, will be Tuesday this year).

I don't understand why A has gone from really loving her bathtime to going completely ballistic as I start to undress her... Her room is warm and I'm just doing the same things I've done for months, but now she spends the entire time in the bath screaming, as in proper tantrum, and desperate to get out, won't even look at the bath toys she so enjoyed even 4 days ago. Its only the last few days, and she doesn't seem to be particuarly overtired. Was planning on going swimming with her on Tuesday but now I don't know. Not enjoying seeing my lovely easy-going girl having a proper strop!

HappyTangerine · 27/09/2010 11:02

No self feeding with spoon or fork here, Joseph tries a little then gets bored - so much more fun and messy to use hands! He is, however, refusing to drink water from a sippy cup now and wants to use a proper tumbler/mug like us. Cue trip to the shop to get children's mug and tumbler. He's ever so pleased with himself!

Walking coming along in leaps and bounds, he's still a bit nervous to let go but getting braver all the time. In the meantime, he wants to climb and launch himself off everything. He is turning my hair grey, I swear-no sense of fear or self preservation, just climb and dive!My mum says this is karma and I was exactly the same.

We spent yesterday house hunting in Chester and I think we may cross it off the list-it just didn't feel right. Nice enough but the roads in our preffered location seem so narrow and it felt a bit claustrophobic. Now looking at the Wirral again.

Calypso Is A afraid of getting shampoo/water in her eyes? It may be that. Joseph had started to get anxious about his bath and I got him one of those fab little visors that they wear for hair wash and he's fine now. Failing that, a toothbrush always works a treat for me-he starts cleaning his teeth in front of the mirror, concentrating long enough for me to put him in the bath. He lloves his swivel bath seat but is getting quite tubby in it!

Scout No juice here yet, just milk and water.

Iggly We were starting to self settle ok but it seems to have gone downhill since last week. Am not sure if Joe's brain is unable to switch off from "want to walk" mode! Sleep at night definately improving but he seems to be dropping a daytime nap some days.

I am wondering about giving up breastfeeding soon, for some reason it is starting to hurt. I don't think it's any more teeth than the 10 Joe has- I think it's me. My BiscuitBiscuit are so tender. Has anyone else had this and will they toughen up again? I don't think Joe is ready for me to stop yet...

Love to all x

Igglybuff · 27/09/2010 11:32

thanks again ladies. Still not feeling real yet. I keep checking in the loo as getting a bit crampy Blush I think it's normal - can't quite remember.

HT if it hurts to BF it could be a sign of pregnancy............................ Or your periods returning to normal. Get testing lady! Or could be that Joe is latching on in a slightly different way? I know what you mean about the lack of self preservation. William keeps trying to fly off the sofa Hmm

calypso, I have no ideas about A's bathtime. Maybe she just doesn't want to be undressed?? Toddlers do go through strange phases I think. W is getting more tantrummy by the hour. He also flipped out one bath time as he didn't like the bubbles and was tired. Happy Birthday to A!

princess - the "but" in your post is interesting! also glad you had a nice night out. We're going out on wednesday for a meal while the GPs babysit. Will be nice.

scout William is fine self settling at bedtime unless something's up. It's naps that are the problem Hmm I guess if he doesn't start soon we'll have to see what happens when the nanny starts. She should be used to dealing with it.

I've started driving lessons again and have my third today. It's going quite well so far but nervous about being let onto the main roads......

I am soooooo sick! Morning, noon & night, it doesnt matter. Put for hours last night thinking it was going to happen, but no....this happened when I was pregnant with DS, so maybe another boy??? Iggly cramps all normal lol....everything just getting bigger, its amazing what you forget!
Im also always tired. I blame it on my age lol...that will teach me to play with fire!

Faith is nowhere near ready to feed herself with spoon. Im lucky if I can get food into her mouth, if I even leave finger-food down, it gets thrown arround also. She still wont drink out of slippy cup either. Will just wait till she is ready.

Scout Faith has just starting taking Robinsons b'currant & apple, but there is hardly any juice in it. Im also going to stop the formula in a couple of weeks, im hopeful there wont be a problem with her drinking the full-fat milk, fingers crossed!

Faith flipped herself backwards in the bath, she went right under. I was of course with her, so she was up again within a second, but im hopeful it wont of put her off. Calypso does she have bath toys that she loves? Faith hated her baths, but I got a bubble machine & a baby shower that goes on the side, she loves these & its made bath-time so much easier.

Scout how are you feeling??

Mel do you mine if I ask you a question? Ive always just wondered. When F goes for a shoot, does he get paid for it even if he doesnt get the job? Or do you only get paid if he does??? And does he now get free shoes from Clarke??? lol....

Hi to HC Fidelma & HT!!! And anyone who is reading!! Grin

OMG....forget to say....

My midwife here is my midwife I had in Germany!!! She has just been posted, how lucky is that!! Grin

Scout19075 · 27/09/2010 12:41

Hi everyone!

Took the wee one and myself to the GP today. Got some steroid cream for my hand. It's to the point where I can't do anything without pain and it's stiffening up and throbbing. Makes doing things for S very difficult! And I wanted to make sure S didn't have tonsilitis as he's taken to hanging his tongue out again. But it's conincided with his nose starting again, so think it's a combination of breathing through his mouth and feeling his teeth. You can now see them when he grins. Grin Though very Sad at losing the gummy smile (honestly, nothing warms my heart more than a big gummy smiled).

I'm wondering if we'll see top teeth soon -- he's starting to show the signs he had the week or two before the bottom ones cut through. We shall see. Is S the only one who's only just cut their first teeth?

I'll be back with personals -- my hand is throbbing so think I will take advantage of S's nap and put the cream and gloves on for a while.

dizzytrout · 27/09/2010 14:26

Hello all :)

Long time no post, just popping on for a quick catch up...

Congratulations Iggly, what fantastic news :)

It's been a busy few weeks, it's Emily's Christening on Sunday so we have a lot to organise there, I'm nowhere near ready. Then of course it'll be her birthday in a few weeks - what have you all got planned for your LO's? I don't think we'll have a proper party for her, maybe just some of the younger members of the family round for a bit of cake Grin

I've recently made a few changes to her routine on the advice of the HV, luckily it all seems to be working (she was waking a lot in the night and screamling at bedtime) I think she was actually hungry, I felt terrible I'd never thought of that - I've dropped a couple of bottles and added more food so everything seems to be fine now :)

xxx

rubyslippers · 27/09/2010 18:56

OMG Iggly!!!!!

Wonderful news

Just skimming the thread to catch up with our one year olds - where has that year just gone?!

Rubes is one on Saturday and we are having a party which i am looking forward to ....

I am going to have a proper read now and catch up with you all

X

HappyTangerine · 28/09/2010 00:48

Calypso Happy Birthday to Annelise.Grin Wow, this year has gone so quickly!

Iggly Bit scared to test-half hoping, half terrified...AF not due for another 5 days so we shall see.

littlepea Oh God, I have SO much sympathy for you. I had horrendous, all day morning sickness with Joe, really bad. I had to give up driving-even at 6 weeks pg, I remember going up and down the motorways for work and having to constantly stop on the hard shoulder to be sick. Have you tried that Chinese geneder predicition thingy? I remember HC posting a link in our "Due in Oct" thread- it was right in the predicition for us.

Scout Glad Seb doesn't have tonsilitis but ouch for your poor hand. Hope cream works quickly.

ruby and dizzytrout big wave, enjoy your parties and the christening. We had a party in my mums house in Wales last weekend with about 15 adults-friendly, noisy and brief -they were all gone within a few hours as we then had to drive back. We're having a small party here for joe with my dh's family so that our neices get to share the festivities.

HT Test!!! How exciting.....what way do you feel????

CalypsoFramboise · 28/09/2010 08:35

1 :)

Annalise really enjoyed her bath last night, hopefully she was just going through a funny week?
I also randomly burst into tears this morning thinking about no more breastfeeding, have been quite looking forward to it so don't know why I feel so emotional about it! So I've decided to wait until I come back from Spain in mid-Oct :)

Scout poor you - I had terrible eczema as a teenager and my hands were always in bandages. I can't imagine trying to look after a baby with something like that, get well soon x

HT oohh how exciting!

Ruby hello! So nice to see you again :)

littlepea72 · 28/09/2010 19:49

Happy Birthday Annalise!!! Grin

fidelma · 28/09/2010 20:29

calypso Happy Birthday Annelise.
C loves the shower he will stay in for ages ! even got in dd1 shower the other morning as she had left the door open (sadly he was dressed for tha day and looking quite good)LOL

Scout I give C watered down fruit juice and also some cows milk at times although HT I am still breastfeeding and am going to through the winter.C has been poorly this week and being able to comfort him has been such a boon.

Iggly I was always cramy in the early weeks. It used to freak me out however I think it is good news, baby implanting, growing womb changing etc.

PrincessI found going to 3 quite easy but to 4 has been tough (I wouldn't change it but it is alot ALOT of work)However I always said that it is a few tough years for the rest of your life.4 is nice and even......BUT.........Wink

littlepea sorry that you are feeling so sick it is horrible but remember it means a stronger pregnancy (so they say)ice cubes, eat something when you wake in the night (I used to have a yogurt, as it would slip down easliy)eat every time you start to feel sick (I had hyperemmisis twice with the girls)my gp also gave me accupuncture every week. I think it helped.Very Grin that your mw is with you again soooo cool.

C is one on Thursday however we are having a birthday tea tomorrow as I am working on Thursday, he wont know.Just our family,my Mum and his Aunt and Uncle who are the God parents.Chocolate cake here we come !!!

My Dad took the children and I to Avimore for the weekend. We had a fantastic time. There was snow on top of the Cairngormes,we went up in the finicular(sp?) the children went to Landmark fantastic adventure park (worth a google)huge walks around magical lochs in dappled sunshine. We walked at least 3 miles with me keeping the children going with hot chocolates, poo sticks, fairies and bear hunts.Needless to say I was exhausted at the end.Grandad took them on a pony trek and generally spoiled them for the whole weekend.Fantastic place for a child friendly holiday so much to do.The Macdonald hotels have great facillities (we were in a cottage) I am thinking about booking a lodge for half term. Also worth a google is The House of Bruar for a great stop as you go up North.Food and shopping not to be missed (although my dh often tries to keep me out lol)

Back to reality again

although we are off to Balmoral next weekend as our friend is looking after Queenie !

princessProudmel · 28/09/2010 22:11

hI EVERYONE!! (ooops caps!)

ht oooh!!! do a test soon!!! Exciting!
My nipples hurt more when I had thrush, when ds/dd was about to get new teeth and also when they'd fed more than normal for a few days.

cf Can I ask why you are going to stop bf? Did you decide to stop when A turned 1 ? :)(just wondering)

fidelma I know no4 would be hard but tbh 3 is pretty full on already! washing, cooking, tidying, school runs, playdates, clubs, activities, parties, 1-1 time, reading etc etc!!! I don't know what we'll do tbh. Confused

scout glad you got the cream and gloves xx

littlepea Sorry you're feeling sick but it's all good positive signs.
Eat regularly and drink lots and try to sleep when you can.
Same to you iggly :)

good luck wwith the house hunting ht*

Hi dizzy and ruby :)

shoots. Littlepea, F gets paid a small fee for a casting which is when the client meets loads of babies and decides who they want to use for jobs. Then if he gets the job he gets paid an hourly rate. Between £60 - £100 an hour. He's usually paid for a minimum of 3 hours. Never less than 2. The agency takes a cut of this.

He has a job tomorrow and is currently in the Littlewoods and Great Universal catalogues wearing the Tommy Hilfiger tracksuit. And the No added sugar ones. Keeping an eye out for the Tesco Europe pics and John Lewis. Oh and Clarks but that's not till March :) :)

princessProudmel · 28/09/2010 22:13

Baths both ds1 and dd have had phases of hating the bath . Actually there are loads of threads about it on MN. I think I've posted on some!

Ds1 and dd's started very out of the blue too. I just stopped baths for a while and did washes. The one day bought a new toy and put it in bath and they were desperate to get in and try it :)

fidelma · 29/09/2010 23:02

I was in labour this time last year.Wish I was tonight there is nothing like bringing a baby into this world.

We have had C birthday tea tonight, roast chicken dinner with yorkshire pudding and chocolate cake (not on the same plate!)Grin

My mum bought him a lovely wooden trolly with bricks in which all the others used alot. The old one was finnished so he has a lovely new one. He also enjoyed his chocolate cake.

I have been looking at photos of ds1 and c looks just like him (I did put him in the same shirt that ds1 wore on his first birthday!)

twinklegreen · 29/09/2010 23:09
