had to do a new thread as the old one just wasn't pleasing my computer!

Sorry for huge me, me, me post. Was about to read back, but dd has just delivered a lovely present in her nappy, so I'd best be off for a bit. Will hopefully be able to pop back later.

Oh - and Tree, you naughty thing, I went on the White Company baby sale after you mentioned it. Could've spend a fortune, but managed not to press checkout!

120 · 25/06/2010 13:11

Yayayayay moosey on the weight loss. Maybe you can get a light, big brimmed hat to wear up the hill to provide some shade?

That school sounds atrocious. I've got to organise one for DD and I'm so scared I haven't started looking yet!

treedelivery · 25/06/2010 13:34

Oh Moose.

Well, bloody well done. For the weght loss, and for such an organised and responsible response the bullshit at school

Poor you, dh, ds and all of you. Soon be holidays at least, he can have a break from it all.

I'm off soon, back to mumsnet probably monday. I'm seeing eggy couple tomoorow. I have butterflies! I hope they like the dd's, they are like an advert for my genes Such a silly feeling to have, but there it is. Just nerves. AM also seeing lots of people I haven't seen in ages, so it is nervewracking really. I have put a lot of weight on so I hope they don't all see me and think 'fat'.

Oh well. Have fab weekends everyone. About to load the car. Don't you hate that!?

120 · 25/06/2010 14:57

Have a good trip. I know exactly what you mean about advert for your genes. I think that is very cute!

What I hate more than packing the car, is what I did this lunch time. All the baggage for an evening dinner party with kids. check. stuff for afternoon in the park. check. sleepy, hungry, moany kids. check. handbag. check. ready to drive, key in lock. no reaction. not a peep. flat battery. Grrrr.

Oh noooo 120!

Are you waiting for the AA/ RAC now then? Or taking public transport? So rubbish

moosemama · 25/06/2010 15:50

That's just it 120. Its a 'good' school in a 'nice' area. Apparently

Oh no! your battery (just saw your second post). I hate it when that happens and believe me having an ancient vw camper means it happens a lot. Such a faff - everyone strapped into the car seats, then everyone unbuckled out of the car and back into the house to wait for gawd knows how long until you can either get a jump-start or a visit from the AA/RAC.

Hope you are up and running and on the road by now.

Tree - have a fantastic weekend. I'm sure it will be lovely and everyone will be so pleased to see you the last thing on their minds will be what size you are.

120 · 25/06/2010 18:45

evening all. nope. they had sleeps here whilst DP frantically cycled home and sorted the car and I had lunch. then we went to the park and played at another friends house instead.

Car was so flat the jump leads didn't work - it needs to charge overnight so he had to go and buy a charger. Whole thing is a bit awkward as a good friend borrows our car sometimes and she had accidentally left the lights on on Wednesday morning. Fellow mumsnetter so no threads on this one!! oh well.. dinner parties have waited a couple of years so another couple of weeks will be ok. At least it is Friday night, I have a glass of white and DP is in the kitchen with the kids dipping strawberries into 'chocolate yoghurt' (greek yog + nutella!). ahhh.

Just occured to me the thread is getting chunky - time to start thinking of funky titles again.

120: YANBU ... glass of white sounds good. It's a cold cerveza here.

Tree I bet eggy couple will be super excited to meet your girls and see what their baby might look like.... how exciting and lovely for you all!

MM all the school stuff sounds so awful... I know you have prob answered this before, but can you move them? Am sort of with books about being put off schools in general. If we lived nearer a Steiner place, N would be signed up already.

Waves to everyone else and sorry for usual crappy catch up..... you are right 120, we need a new thread soon. How is hkz doing by the way? Hope her ms is better and sending her hugs.

moosemama · 25/06/2010 21:51

Books, its not like that for all the kids. Remember ds1 has AS and therefore misreads people, offends people with direct speech and generally stands out as different and therefore a target. He may as well have a neon sign over his head saying 'come and bully me'.

MissJ, no, no option for moving them. Everywhere is really oversubscribed around here and school places are hotly contested. Also, despite everything they both really like going there and ds1 has a major meltdown at the mere hint of a mention of moving either house or school.

Just found out this afternoon that the SENCO is retiring at the end of term - perhaps that has something to do with how crap all the SEN support stuff has been. Problem is, we don't know who will be her replacement, but ds1's current hopeless teacher has been on several training courses recently and we have a horrible feeling she might be moving into that role 3 days a week next year, rather than teaching and ending up off sick for six months and affecting yet another classes' education. She suddenly came out with "I know a bit about dyspraxia" at the meeting we had last week, so that has made us even more suspicious.

chefswife · 25/06/2010 21:54

Moose You are getting fitter. With each time you go out. I love how compassionate your DS1, wanting to stand by his friend the next day at school in case the bullies harass them again. Too sweet. at school for not exercising a Zero Tolerance Policy. Interesting seeing as how every public space in the UK is always reminding you that bully behavior won't be tolerated... I guess it only goes for people who are paid, not schools students. When you think about it, the school is somewhat responsible for their behavior outside of school as well because the kids see their behavior is not reprimanded at school, so why would it anywhere else. Oscillating problems.

I was horribly bullied by a kid at school from early on and even into highschool. It tapered off a bit after grade 4 (9 years) when after he snowed me in for the umpteenth time, (its when you get grabbed on the playground and your friends bury you in snow, except he use to ram it in your mouth.) He rammed so much snow in my face I couldn't breathe. I remember panicking a bit at not being able to take a breath, but becoming very calm afterwards while I brushed off the snow. He stood there laughing and taunting and the other kids are mostly just standing around, (he was the class bully), and I walked up to him and punched him so hard in the face I cracked his nose. That was the very first time I felt so incredibly powerful and was not going to let anyone treat me like that again. When I was little, I never really understood why some kids acted like that and just ran away when the bullying started but that day was a pinnacle moment in my life for sure. I was lucky I think too that I floored him right off the bat. They tried to give me suspension, but many parents came out in my defense and he got the suspension actually. The thing that got me was that he sent me a message on FB asking how I was and wanting to add me as a friend. WTF?

120 Did you drive it since your friend borrowed your car? You may need to get a new battery if it isn't recharging much after driving. The juice may not be taking the charge so to speak. You should look to get a new battery every 3-5 years to keep optimum power for your car. My dad was a mechanic extraordinaire, so I know a couple things about cars. Mostly GM cars mind you. (Dad worked there for 30+ years) I didn't know anything about Porsche's though. I thought it was just a broken clutch cable, turned out the standard system on the Porsche is actually hydraulics. lol

I'm watching my prick neighbour cut all this overgrown grass and not take into consideration our yard. Thanks for the mess jackass. Come on. Can't you cut the other way?! FFS!

Other than that, its a gorgeous day here. Friend coming over to give me some tips on the stone wall I'm finishing for UG. (Uncle Gord)lol So nice to have a yard... no carting off to the park everyday.

teaandcakeplease · 25/06/2010 22:00

I've had people ask to be my friend too from school who were horrid to me. Its funny how it didn't bother them and they don't remember, but to me its still fresh. I was bullied all the way through I just click "ignore"

So lovely to have some grass Chef, piccy's for fb?

chefswife · 25/06/2010 22:02

LOL... must be spring cleaning next door because I can see his frumpy wife wiping window sills. I don't know what these two do to have such a huge house because they look like they would be living in a trailer in a broken down park somewhere. lol. OK, maybe that was mean. But they are so crusty too. I've tried being neighbourly. They don't talk to anyone on the street either. I'm not trying to condone my pissy gossip, just gossiping

I'm a little bored. Waiting for DD to finish her late lunch due to a marathon nap... with no boob, again!

chefswife · 25/06/2010 22:05

Tea Pics will come when I get it all done! lol. I'm not one to show works in progress... goes back to undergrad art school days of the exasperating discussion one has trying to explain what is going to happen to a work in progress. lol

120 · 25/06/2010 22:31

thanks MJ - that made me laugh. No peeps from HZ - will give her a nudge at the weekend.

any of you scared of school should read 'why children fail' (about how crap schools are) and then ' how children learn' (about how to home educate. I found them fascinating, but at the same time realised that they can learn so much from us, even though they may get nothing from school. both fascinating reading though.

have a good one chef. night night!

meant to say about the car; it's a second hand one, so no knowing, we'll see if it's revived in the morning (bl**dy better have, the amount we spent on the charger!)

OP posts:
chefswife · 26/06/2010 05:16

Always good to have one of those, although that is coming from my Ontario roots, deep, cold winters where you have to plug your car in if you want to drive to work. Man! I love living on the west coast.

I foresee the wall not getting done tomorrow. I have to get ready for camping! Yeah!

120 · 26/06/2010 07:20

lol chef. Thanks for all the car tips - DP has told me the battery is newish, so fortunately that is one less expense. Last time I needed a car charger was in very cold Germany and I was told it was either the battery or marmots had cosied up under the bonnet to keep warm overnight and had chewed through some cables!

Morning

Well I've had a great start to the day. Couldn't sleep so got up at 6.30 am, got dressed and went for a walk. Thought I'd walk up to the next village and buy the dcs and dh something nice for breakfast. Ds1 missed out on tasting the french brioche at school yesterday, as they only had the chocolate variety, so I thought I'd buy him some plain ones to try.

Walking was lovely, really sunny but nice and cool with a gentle breeze and no traffic. Decided not to walk down the alleys and through the park as there's no-one around at that time in the morning, so I wouldn't feel safe.

Got just about at mile and a half into my walk and my ankle suddenly went out from under me with a really loud crack!

Couldn't put my foot to the floor, it was so painful. Managed to drag myself across the road to the local school entrance, get onto the wall and get my mbt off and then it really started to hurt. Called home, dh was obviously still asleep, so made a desperate tearful call to my Mum, who bless her cotton socks, got out of bed and came straight out to rescue me. I wanted to go home and ice it, but she insisted on taking me to A&E.

Nearly shot through the roof and threw up at the same time when they poked my ankle bone, so had it xrayed and they found what they think is a old break as it looks really smooth and neat, but its a large chip and is being pulled away from the main bone by the ligaments. They are not sure if it was an old break that has healed but been snapped off again and pulled away by the swollen ligaments (don't remember ever having an ankle injury before in my life though) or whether that's an old break that has been like that for a long time and the pain is from a bad sprain.

So here I am at home on painkillers, with a bag of peas on my ankle. I was seen by a nurse practitioner and apparently the xrays will be reviewed by a senior doctor on Monday and they will call me back if they are concerned. In the meantime I have to treat it as a bad sprain. To be honest, I have a pretty high pain threshold and I can't believe its not broken, the pain is so nauseating.

So much for my walking for weightloss. The hospital said, even if it is a bad sprain, no 'proper' walking for 'several weeks' - bugger!

The only good part of today was finding out I've lost another pound. Unfortunately, unless I starve myself, that's likely to be the last pound I lose for quite a while.

teaandcakeplease · 26/06/2010 10:22

Oh Moose I'm so sorry

moosemama · 26/06/2010 10:50

Thanks Tea. Am feeling very sorry for myself this morning. Which is a shame, because despite a horrible weak I was remarkably upbeat and determined to get lots of stuff done this weekend and next week.

Swelling and bruising has started to kick in now and is nasty, so no more kidding myself I'm fine really and will be walking again by next weekend.

Dog, if its that swollen you should get it checked. Problem is they probably won't want to xray due to bump. They might at least strap it or put it in a sling for you.

Didn't know you were looking at getting a pup. What sort? I know its none of my business - so tell me to bugger off if you like. But when I was a dog behaviourist I would never recommend anybody get a pup either just before the arrival of a baby or in the first year of the baby's life. I think people underestimate the amount of work and chaos a puppy can be. Think mobile baby, only for a lot longer (a good couple of years at least) also no potty training, only lots of accidents in the house that need cleaning up vs lots of standing around in the garden waiting for him her to 'go'. The vets fees for annual vaccinations and worming aren't exactly cheap either, looking at a minimum of £40 for annual boosters and more than that for the initial course, plus worming every six months (essential with children around) at another £20-30. Vets also charge a minimum of £12.00 just to walk into their room without them even examining your dog, so thats the absolute minimum a visit to the vets will cost. Also with your spd it would be really bad for you if he/she pulled on the lead as it will/would twist your pelvis. (I couldn't walk my furry babes when I had spd and none of them really pull.) Honestly, I would wait until this baby is at least a year old. I have known so many people broken hearted at having to rehome their pup because they can't cope with a puppy and a baby at the same time and its so upsetting for the dog and the family alike. Entirely up to you of course, that's just my experience and opinion, but I would feel terrible if I didn't say anything and then it all went pear shaped for you.

chefswife · 26/06/2010 16:01

You ladies and your ankles. I'm sending you virtual healing energy. I have an Achilles tendon issue that is constantly plaguing me, so I hear you on the no walking front. I do pilates when I can't get to the gym. here is the one I do.
Unfortunately, its in three videos.
And this is the third part I did it 3 days a week years ago when I first started exercising and saw results fast. I go to this one when I can't work out on my feet. Just be sure to wrap up your ankle and always ice after exercising to keep blood flow up; that helps to heal.

Getting ready for camping here! The weather is nice too! Yeah! Be back later to pop in during lunch, probably. Pretty much can guarantee that. lol
