Welcome to our new cliquey thread !

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SpiderWilliam · 21/05/2010 06:45

I am paying the price of letting P sleep for over three hours yesterday afternoon with an early start. I think it is time to start limiting his naps!

Regarding Weight Loss can I suggest signing up for No Excuses Workouts emails? I have been signed up to the FlyLady emails for a while which there are MN threads on these are aimed at getting your house clean. No Excuses is the exercise and diet link up. I signed up in January when I was on a bit of a health kick and started losing a pound or two a week. I got pregnant and promptly fell off the wagon, but I will be following the plan once I am trying to lose weight again. What I like about it is that as well as being free in its basic form, there is nothing extreme or silly, and it is sustainable. What I don't like is how American it all is (woo hoo), but you can just ignore that. Anyway, I will get off my soapbox, but if anyone is interested you can sign up here

abdnhiker · 21/05/2010 08:39

I need to lose weight too - more walking up hills with the buggy. I walked almost 7 miles yesterday as I weighed myself yesterday morning - I'm very stiff today and still weigh the same. If only it was instant gratification...

Amberc · 21/05/2010 09:43

Congratulations Poppy and Biscuits! There must be something in the water on this thread!

SpiderWilliam · 21/05/2010 10:14

An interesting morning here so far:

  1. Peter climbed/fell out of his cot for the first time. Does this mean he has to go into a bed?

  2. I made an effort to paint my toe nails this morning for the first time this year. I blinked and before I knew it Peter had the brush in his hand and was painting the top of my foot. The bottle was stuck between two sofa cushions oozing pink varnish over my red sofa. It wont come off, although luckily it is down the sides of the cushions not on the top.

  3. Got a letter from the planning office asking whether we have commenced work on a cellar conversion that was applied for in 2003. We bought the house in 2005 with a completed cellar conversion. Called them up, and yes it looks like the conversion has been done without the necessary permissions which may create a problem if we try to sell. However when we bought the property it never came up as a problem.

At least if things come in threes that's my lot for today.

PiggyPenguin · 21/05/2010 12:05

spider , J fell out of his cot months ago but we haven't moved him. We always stay with him until he falls asleep in the evening though, as otherwise he wakes up the older two. In the morning he just lies down and yells 'mummmmmmeeeeeeee' at the top of his lungs until I appear, so he isn't at risk as we are always there, iyswim. If he had carried on I would probably have changed the bed into a cotbed - but then he would just have got out and ran around upstairs all night long which would have been a bloody nightmare. You could try putting him in a travel cot, but the mattress is not designed for being used permanently. Its a tough one.

We are still having house-buying woes. The people we are buying from have finally decided to get a survey on the house they are now buying, but are already concerned as apparently there are big cracks in the outside walls . Fingers crossed it will just be in the rendering, rather than an actual structural problem, as they have pretty much said they will take their house off the market and stay where they are otherwise. Which will leave us screwed. If it does go ahead they are looking to move at the end of July. Why is it never easy?

SpiderWilliam · 21/05/2010 14:31

Thanks Sybil. He wasnt in a sleeping bag at the time as I had just popped him in for 5 mins to stop him switching off the vacuum cleaner at the socket. Will see how it goes.

Sorry to hear about your house woes. It's never easy is it?

AIBU to think that if my parents visit for one day in the space of 2 months at their request they shouldn't bring their own laptop and surf the internet, and then put one of their politics programmes on "on demand" that they missed last night. They are only here from 11 to 5. In their defence they have just taken me out for lunch.

Rolf · 21/05/2010 15:48

Hope your day has improved Spider. T hasn't learned how to climb out of her cot yet (no need as her sister gets her out! ). DD1 was able to vault out, in her sleeping bag, and pogo down the stairs. We left the side low in an attempt to kid ourselves that she might sometimes not climb out (wtf??) but really we were doomed.

Sybil sorry about your house woes. So stressful.

Steroid Bob is out on his roof again. We're going to extend the trellis so he can't see onto our patio when he's on the roof, and I think I'll put some fake ivy on it whilst some real plants get on with growing. Still no answer from the anti-social behaviour team

Essie don't go. I'd really miss you . Baby stories make me a bit sad and broody as well, as they do a lot of other people on here. To a large extent it's part and parcel of motherhood

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 21/05/2010 16:37

No Spider, you're NBU! How rude!

B hasn't tried climbing out of his cot yet, but he did climb out of his bath last night.

I forgot to share my excitement of this week, I was hanging out with a very famous film director at work. Think Wall St, Platoon. He was very interesting! V soon it will be the ex Dr Who!

SpiderWilliam · 21/05/2010 18:05

Wow Bugger that is v impressive celeb gossip. Would love to know what you do, but I wouldn't want you to out yourself. Thanks for confirming IWNBU. My Mum agreed with me. It was my Dad that wanted it on, but she was also guilty of watching. They have gone now. A bit of a flying visit. I now have a patio full of seedlings that she bought, and I need to remember what each one is, and where/how to plant it out.

Rolf sounds like a good idea with the trellis. What an unpleasant man.

I think with a sleeping bag on it will only be a matter of time before P vaults out, but it might buy us a few weeks. We can't drop the sides of the cot, so it is either a full on cot or convert into a junior bed. If we go for the bed option then we will have to reconfigure our stairgates otherwise he would pretty much have a run of the house, as the gate on the stairs needs to move as it has destroyed the wall and we now have a big hole.

TGIF

neenz · 21/05/2010 18:06

Wow Bugger that's very impressive! I had to look it up and thought I bet I don't know who he is but he is very famous.

Spider, no YANBU! Do they do stuff like that often?

Rolf, I had to laugh at your DD vaulting out of the cot

Sybil, fingers crossed for the house. The vendors sound like a complete nightmare - very selfish imo, they obviously are not considering you at all which is so rude.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 21/05/2010 19:02

sybil, you have my every sympathy on the house move stress - the buyer at the bottom of our chain is a royal PITA and I want to brain him right now . He went back for a third viewing yesterday, just to check he still wanted to buy the house!! WTF! We're due to exchange on Tuesday. He's an arse .

spider, hmm, bit out of order on your dad's part! I don't envy your cot dilemma - luckily A has shown no interest in getting out of his so we're in no hurry to move him!

Thanks for the link re: exercise, I'm going to have a look.

bugger, how exciting! But I will never speak to you again if you get to hang out with DT!

Rolf, your DD1 sounds like a real character!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 21/05/2010 19:20

S managed to get one leg over the side of his cot for the first time last night too. We've been thinking about moving him to a bed for a while but need to tackle a few other sleep issues first.

neenz · 21/05/2010 19:51

How sad am I - I am so chuffed about this weather because I can get two loads of washing done and dried in one day

Did I tell you T has started calling me Nina Cheeky bugger! Not all the time - usually when he is calling me from his cot . It is quite cute and I don't mind really. And he is absolutely obsessed with buses - we live on a main road with a bus stop right outside our house (which is handy), and he just stands at the window going 'car, car, bike, BUS!'. When we are in the car I swear he can spot a bus from about 300 yards - he sees them before I do. We are going to take them on one soon when we get the time. They've never been on a bus before. Hope they like it

Amberc · 21/05/2010 20:01

Neenz - Luke calls Mark by his first name all the time but Mark hates it!. Also Luke tried to get our of his cot this morning as I was too slow in getting him - I think he could manage it if left to his own devices for long enough. He can get out of the bath.

I must confess to being useless at keeping secrets so nega impressed biscuits but put it this way - I will also be very busy in the same week as poppy

PiggyPenguin · 21/05/2010 20:05

Fantastic Amber, congratulations!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 21/05/2010 20:07

Hurrah! Great news Amber.

Amberc · 21/05/2010 20:08

Thanks! lets hope it all doesn't go down the sme road as last time...fingers (and legs) crossed. It really is like an ante natal thread isn't it.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 21/05/2010 20:09

Ohmigod Amber! That's fab news!

Re: the name thing, it must be v confusing for kids when everyone else uses our names and yet they have to call us mummy/daddy! No wonder so many kids use their parents' first names instead initially!

OP posts:
Rolf · 21/05/2010 23:04

Amber that's fantastic news. I'm so pleased
Spider forgot to post that yes, I do think that's a bit odd of your parents.

SpiderWilliam · 22/05/2010 06:53

Brilliant Amber. How are you feeling about it?

Thanks everyone for confirming that it was a bit rude. After they had gone they called and my Dad came on the line to say how much he had enjoyed seeing me and P and what a lovely day he had. As long as is happy I guess...

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 22/05/2010 08:12

amber that's fantastic when does that make you due?

C has, fortunately, shown no skill whatsoever at climbing out of her cot -this morning she stood there shouting 'Mummy, I ready to get up now!' at 645. when I asn't quick enough in responding, she tried 'Mummy, bekfast time', and then when we scooped her out of her cot she told s it was time for seeping bag off and then Daddy towsers on. Don't know who she gets her bossy organisational streak from!

abdnhiker · 22/05/2010 08:38

congrats amber neenz DS1 does look like he has slapped cheek - you mentioned knowing someone who'd lost a baby at 37 weeks. Do you know any details of what happened? I'm wondering how much to say to the neighbour next door. (Obviously will tell her to talk to her midwife but I don't want to panic her because according to the medical literature the risk is tiny).

DS1 doesn't seem at all ill though so it could just be his skin acting up. Honestly, except for the neighbour I'd prefer if it was slapped cheek because his eczema gets so sore...

poppy34 · 22/05/2010 10:36

Yay amber that is great news

spider that is rude but my
mother surfs on her phone constantly. Re cot I am trying to get Edie to use bed for naps (nanny not so keen as worried she will get up - I think she has to learn and better to start via naps then night time) but has involved
stair gate moving and rejigging of her room so it's safe.

Congrats to biscuits too- Essie don't feel you can't post as you are very much part of things here. Plus it's a long way to go re no 2 for me (had tiny amount of bleeding so it's another reminder of how early things is- only very small so
could be implantation bleed).

In France this weekend so going to try and rest while e asleep.

Hi to everyone else (and am with eddie about potty training as we are miles off it and people do seem to say that later tends to be quicker and easier to do although dh seems to think dsd was out of nappies some hours after she came home from hospital...).

PiggyPenguin · 22/05/2010 10:46

Biscuits - C is obviously doing really well on her talking! Jamie was pleased with himself this morning because he learnt to say 'throw' at the swimming pool, whilst throwing his plastic toys at all and sundry! He just is not a big talker though. I think he is understood too well through signs and expression and just doesn't feel like putting the work in to actually using words. What he lacks vocally he makes up for in cunning and guile though...

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 22/05/2010 11:12

sybil C is definitely lacking in the cunning and guile department! And also the clambering department. In fact, most of her effort has definitely gone into talking to the detriment of other skills - (again, no idea where she gets it from )

Am also nowhere near trying potty training - C never tells us if she's got a dirty nappy, and often denies it when there's clearly a whiff coming from her rear end!

poppy have a lovely restful time in France. put your feet up and lots of napping.

Neenz that is cute about T and the buses, do you have a transport museum in the NW? The Glasgow one has just closed for a year as it is moving to a new venue, but it sounds like it would have been his idea of heaven!
